SummerLightning · 21/05/2010 12:34

ooh Avo your naughty DH!! My DH forgot once when I had just stopped BFing too. We decided to risk it as we wanted another one soonish anyway!! hope you are not too sick.

Anyone got any specific recommendations on scooters?

Beans33 · 21/05/2010 12:34

PS Meant to say - sorry about MAP - grim for you to have to take it. You definitely don't want to risk another DC??! Hee hee!

Avocadoes · 21/05/2010 13:16

Nnooooooo Beans. I am increasingly thinking we will stop at two but even if we don't then number three will be quite some time away. Like after we have won the lottery and can afford several nannies and termly boarding school.

TheInvisibleHand · 21/05/2010 13:43

Hi all,

SL - sorry to be the wet blanket about this, but I'd recommend against the micro scooter. DD has one and it overbalanced very easily - she came off it about 3 weeks ago face forward, cut open her mouth lots of blood etc etc and a wobbly tooth which may yet fall out. That on its own probably wouldn't put me off, but then her two cousins have both had exactly the same kind of accident and I have heard of at least a couple of other kids who have done similar. I'm usually pretty relaxed about safety stuff but this really doesn't seem too safe. If you are going to get a scooter, I'd use a helmet with it.

We've had the paddling pools with plastic balls in - they love it even more than with water. Sandpits are much loved if you can come with the sand being scattered over the garden and coming back into your house.

Dora - sorry for your loss and for all the bruising and battering you have taken. Hope things feel more settled now.

WomanwiththeYellowHat · 21/05/2010 13:44

Thank you all for the good wishes. We are all bearing up well over all and now have the pleasant distraction of THE POX!! DD2 has it worst and is genuinely 'quite spotty' as DD! pointed out helpfully this morning. DD1 also has it but only has 5 spots (at the moment...) and is convinced she is not ill at all and keeps wondering why we are not at playgroup.

Paddling pool is up, sandpit open, playhouse now has its summer extension (!) and there is about 0.5 sqare mtrs of lawn remaining.....marvellous. I am very glad about heatwave and pox aligning, and of course the weekend so some possibility of heading into the Real World at some point!

BTW SPOT I am still silently laughing to myself about Big Cock Little Cock, which I know I am late to reference but I found in my catch up last night. A more fitting description I cannot imagine.....

TheInvisibleHand · 21/05/2010 13:50

If you have to have the pox, having it in a heatwave should ease the agony! We're waiting to see if we've got it ourselves - all the kids our DCs see seem to have got it. Obviously, it will happen just when we are going on holiday at the end of next week.

JamInMyWellies · 21/05/2010 13:57

We havea scooter for DS1 its on of the ones with the wider plastic base and 2 wheels at the front. He has only just started to use it properly turns 3 in a couple of weeks. Last yr he just pushed it around. DS2 only ever chews the big rubber handle on it. So I would hold of on it for a while.

Rubena · 21/05/2010 13:57

I cooked ds a lovely pizza the other day and he pushed it off the table. I ate it then [pig] (that was part of my 1000 calorie lunch that day) He was teething to be fair as he wouldn't even have yogurt. He goes right off food at that time. He's still sore today so I put about half a tube of dentinox gel on his gums and I can feel teeth coming through on all 4 sides but after the gel he had some pasta thankfully. Dinner may well be a different story.
He's just been outside mozing the lawn with his mower He loves it as I refused to let him push a toy stroller so mil got him this
Thanks for the tips on outdoor stuff. We are being given a slide at some point soon, but will get the paddling pool. Invis - good point about the sand - I can't stand that! it would be managable but not for dh so inside would become the beach!

Avo sorry about map - I'm confused though - so you stopping at 2 lo's then? I was thinking you wanted 3?
I took it once when I was newly married to the exH and I vommed for 2 days (sorry) Apparently its the same as taking 4 of your regular pills.

Rubena · 21/05/2010 14:01

he wasn't mozing the lawn.... he was mowing !

Avocadoes · 21/05/2010 14:08

Rubes - I did want three but since having DD2 I have wavered. I found the jump from one to two harder than expected and am scared three might be a step too far. Also we feel like quite a nicely formed little family now and I am loathe to rock the boat. Plus I hate pregnancy. But you never know, I am 31 now so have a few years before it's too late to change my mind. DH is still v keen. Either way I definitly don't want one now. No way Jose.

Re scooters I was going to recommend the mini micro scooter. It's the one Jam is talking about with the plastic base and two front wheels. They are ubiquitis around here, everyone has them. But invis's experience is off putting.

Invis - what's happening on the job front?

spotofcheerfulness · 21/05/2010 14:12

Hello, am sneaking on when I'm meant to be working hard as I just can't come up with the words I need. Can't work out if this is preggers hormones or I'm just being thick.

Hello Dora, nice to see you and very sorry to hear about your FIL. .

Good pox timing, your garden sounds lovely . And for the record, I think they are both big cocks.

Actually, T keeps saying "cock" and I'm sure it's to do with trying to say Cat or Dog or Duck or something, rather than overhearing my potty-mouthedness .

Avo, poor you having to take the MAP, your DH deserves to be roundly vommed on.

Rubs, I wanted to ask you about the bed, does DS move about much in the night and kick his covers off? I mean, it sounds like he's sleeping really well in it but is that because he doesn't move a lot or he just sleeps through being uncovered?

TheInvisibleHand · 21/05/2010 14:23

Avo - thanks for asking. TBH, work situation is pretty rubbish at the moment. Boss has resigned as is going elsewhere with the rest of the team. For various reasons, I can't go with them. Can't stay where I am either. The travelley job is definitely still a strong prospect and the people involved are being very supportive, but time is running out and it does feel a bit like the world is caving in over my head. Sorry, that is a bit crap and melodramatic especially as so many people have been coping with much worse. It will sort itself out. Its been a tough couple of weeks with lots of minor bits and bobs - FIL had an operation, not serious, but meant DH had to be away when all the work stuff was blowing up, my mum had a trip to A&E for a shoulder problem which again turned out to be not serious, but then we had to figure how my dad would be cared for in the meantime as she normally does it but can't at the mo and DS had a vomiting bug this week as well. I'm kind of dreading whatever might happen next really...

WomanwiththeYellowHat · 21/05/2010 14:24

spot agree wholeheartedly re:the cocks

avo interestingly I feel exactly the same re:a third. I always wanted 3 (well actually 4 hahahahahah)and some days I do feelreally broody, but when I see the girls together I just feel that they are complete and that we are a great little unit. We have a little scrubland at the end of our road (sounds grim but is actually a real nature spot) and I released dd2, all poxed-up, from her buggy to walk around it this morning and she straight away reached out for dd1's hand and insisted on walking round it together holding hands. It was so moving for me (obv severe sleep deprivation etc etc!) to see them so obviously turning to each other and not really interested in where I was. ANyway, I am only 32 so still have time to think about it, just interested in someone else thinking exactly the same.

TheInvisibleHand · 21/05/2010 14:27

Avo and Dora - interesting to see you both settling on the idea of 2. My two are lovely together (i'll see if I can figure out how to post a link of a video of them together on FB), but I still kind of hanker after 3. But I am 37 and with all the uncertainty of our lives at the moment am kind of coming round to accepting the idea that two is probably it.

Beans33 · 21/05/2010 14:37

Oooh, just a quickie - have downloaded a little film on FB (inspired by Invis!) of DD this morning in my shoes. And in her lovely dress!

Wow, it's so hot. Am tempted to get out paddling pool now - but not sure I've got the puff to blow it up!

TheInvisibleHand · 21/05/2010 14:40

beans - just realised we are not FB friends, so have posted you a request but failed to identify who I am! I've posted some kind of link on the group FB page - hope it works!

Beans33 · 21/05/2010 14:41

Invis - I'm assuming it's your vid on FB - absolutely gorgeous! V sweet indeed! Love it!

Rubena · 21/05/2010 14:42

Yes I know what you mean Avo and I haven't even had number 2 yet, but we are not getting tri-clackered either as I think 2 suits us best 31 eek [feels old]

Spot, yes he has always been a wriggler and always switched ends of the cot 2 or 3 times so I was worried, but he has this Gro Duvet and what I do is just put the cover over him when I put him in bed (without zipping him in)then check him about an hour later and he's sometimes still in the same place and sometimes at the other end on top of the covers,(depends how knackered he is) so I move him in place again if he isn't in properly and then do up the zip, then late, when I go to bed I check and he's usually still under the cover all zipped in and looking swamped as he's so small! Not sure after that as he lets himself out in the morning but I don't hear from him until about 7am. the reason I don't do the zip up initially is becuase once he got out when I put him to bed and played with toys for a few minutes and then gets back in himself but lays on top of the duvet obviously, so if it's already zipped up i thought it might be too hard to undo the zip and put him in and re-zip without waking him if that makes sense! However I'm going to try that soon since he's getting more used to it.
Anyway, I highly recommend it although it's pricey, it's very effective and can be used for ages to come! I've also kept the temp in his room at a steady 22 incase he gets out of it later, but that was another reason I wanted to do the transition in Summer and not Winter iyswim.

Beans33 · 21/05/2010 14:42

I've befriended you !

Rubena · 21/05/2010 14:42

oooh off to check FB!

Rubena · 21/05/2010 14:52

Oh love them Beans and Invis!!

Rubena · 21/05/2010 14:54

I must admit I'm I didn't get to join an NTC group as you seem to have loads of get togethers those of you in them. I tried but our area was full not to mention it was quite expensive I recall

TheInvisibleHand · 21/05/2010 15:01

Glad you enjoyed the vid. Beans, your DD is adorable!

Rubena - wouldn't feel too badly about the NCT, its a bit of a gamble as it totally depends on whether you get on with the group you end up joining up with. The classes themselves were fine, but I could def have lived without them and not worth the £££. Three years on am still in touch with about half my group and see one v regularly as she lives 3 doors down on our road and our DDs get on really well. But then I'd have probably met her anyway. Don't know what its like in your area, but down our way the local NCT branch organises weekly teas at people's houses which you don't have to pay for and don't have to be a member of NCT to get involved with.

spotofcheerfulness · 21/05/2010 15:09

That set looks good, pubes, does it include the duvet itself or just the cover?
We actually bought a cotbed in the sale the other day but don't think we'll put it up for a while yet. I am worried T will not make the transition as well as your DS!

SummerLightning · 21/05/2010 15:20

lol at your DS saying "cock" spot! I was wandering around this morning saying "Where are my bloody keys" - there may have been some more rude words thrown in. Ds began going round saying "keys, keys, keys", I think I may have had a lucky escape!!

Can any of you help with my thread on sibling jealousy with little ones with a small gap?? I know I have asked this on here before but I started a thread and haven't had many answers as yet. here

rubes I didn't do NCT either but conveniently managed to sort of attach myself to my friends NCT group, they are lovely! Will also be doing the teas round peoples houses thing that invis is on about when I move house I think to see if I can meet people v locally. I considered doing a refresher course this time but I have too much stuff on my plate with moving house really to bother.

invis very sorry about all your stresses with job, etc. It sounds like you have a lot to worry about at the mo, hope you can get some destressful times soon and things work themselves out. I'm sure they will in in the end but sounds like it never rains but it pours with all that going on!

beans I am gonna come find you on FB too, I don't think we are "friends" yet!

jolly sorry forgot to answer re blackout blind thingy. It was from john lewis and is by the company that make grobags, as a result it was expensivo, 30 quid, but it should last a while and be v useful for hols.
