Phew - that was close! Only got it for 57p less than my max bid, which I thought would easily be more than enough!

What?!? It's not platinum? Or at least sterling silver? Very nice bench I thought it was £14.99 at first b/c just saw the shipping part.

lol about suddenly needing a changing station.

And rofl about pistachio's reasoning that not buying more stuff is "the whole point of having lots of children".

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/05/2010 20:16

KSal - 6 weeks to go (theoretically at least!) - due 29th June.

I personally wouldn't choose to use the Rose and Rebellion with a newborn. We bought it more for use as a back carrier, although I have a photo of him quite happily in a front carry at 7 months. I would choose either of my other carriers (close carrier or baby bjorn active) for a newborn. In fact I'd pick the close for a newborn and the the bb from a couple of months or so for an awake carry, whilst still the close for a sleeping carry.

I wanted a change station with both of the last 2 as well pistachio, but not quite enough, and couldn't find a nice one. This time I am wanting it for downstairs, so prob won't even use the built in bath, but with 2 types of disposables for ds, plus reuseables for him, and both disposables and reuseables for new baby, plus wipes, cotton wool, water etc I figure I need something to keep it all organised in, and wanted something that I can move around. Didn't want to spend the £90 that they are new though, so was glad it finally occurred to me to look on ebay for a used one.

haha pistachio DH would agree with Jonathan Porritt. He says that because the world is overpopulated already, and the earth can barely support our existence... that in not very much time, if we keep growing at the rate we are, then the planet will not be able to sustain humans any longer. Not enough resources...etc. And that everyone should only at a maximum have max 2 dc to replace themselves.

So, I guess by having just 1, I'm doing my bit for one of those of you who want or have 3 .

It is a nice changing station, csws.

There you go

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/05/2010 21:20

My brother's not having any, so I have an allowance of 2 for him too .

You'd best balance out ronshar or pepper.

thanks CSWS... i ended up with 3 carriers last time and only one of them suitable from birth in that case, which is a sling type one... In theory i should be able to breastfeed in it tho, but i can't figure how.

I am just starting to think of ways i can make a success of BF this time.. especially as its my last (sticking to the 2 babies rule ).. or at least increase my chances.

thinking that carrying to term will help!

6 weeks! that's gone very quickly (for me at least )

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/05/2010 21:47

KSal - there's a new branch of lll very recently set up in L'worth. Going to some meetings just before the birth (when you're on mat leave) and then afterwards would be a great idea for helping it to go well. I can let you know dates for them once you are free. The ones so far have been on a Tues morning. E can come with you too if you are taking her out of nursery whilst you're off.
I've always thought it would be great to bf in a sling, but never actually done it. Of the ones I've tried though, I'd stand more chance in the close carrier, in the newborn position (might still be a pic of ds in it on my profile), though you'd have to choose outfits carefully to manage it whilst out and about I think.

that's v interesting, thanks, guess its not on the website yet. I didn't find the HV run sessions very helpful, but looking back i don't think i helped myself much either.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/05/2010 22:21

Oh those of you that took spatone during your pregnancies - is there a good/bad time of day to take it? Thinking in the sense of will it keep me awake for any reason if I take it of an evening?
And anyone got great ideas for sources of vit c to take it with that won't cause a blood sugar spike?

Hands off Star she is mine

So CSWS you will be a family of 5 in around 2 weeks then I remember your bench, I was dreaming of the shoes I could buy with the same amount of cash

Ksal, you may find it easier to BF this time purely because you know what to expect. The whole new born baby thing wont be such stress and you are a master parent now. The main trick is to just take one feed at a time, one day at a time. There are always lots of women hanging around on here during the day to help as well.

I think 50ft has been kidnapped by her local NCT sect

ronshar · 19/05/2010 22:50

Either that or her great pile of fluff has fallen down and trapped her underneath it.

Myjob, children are sent to try us and our nerves. H was flying down a hill on her scooter today, I was waiting for the crash and the screaming to happen. W on the other hand has turned into a monster. Typical I thought he was all calm and gentle. Oh no, he took a chunk out of H arm because she got in his way!

StarExpat · 20/05/2010 08:21

Csws - I took it with breakfast and lunch. Would kiwi be ok for blood sugar levels?

lol about 50ft trapped under fluff!

Ksal - I never managed to feed in a sling either because it hurt so much that I needed to be still. I did find that having the bebe au lait nursing cover made me feel like I could feed anywhere. I know most people aren't that modest about their bodies...etc, etc, but it made a huge difference to me. There's a wire bit at the top that you can adjust and it allows you to look at the baby the whole time, but nobody else, and it's breathable and doesn't smother the baby like a normal cloth would. I even used it at home sometimes because he felt so warm and close in it and wasn't distracted by other things happening (much like it would be for him in a sling).
I agree - one day one feed at a time, and get support. LLL helped me loads BUT they are also a bit OTT about some stuff (sorry). Just take it all with a grain of salt. When baby is born an LLL bf counsellor will come to your house and help you with latch or any problems you are having and can advise quite well. Definitely go to some meetings beforehand and use that support just after the birth.
They did tell me not to take flucanazole for thrush because there were "more natural" ways to cure it... but it was horrendous and with the cracks and bleeding and pain... I just needed to be rid of it. So I'd advise, use your instinct on stuff like that!

OH!! And I have Silverettes still (clean of course and been sterilized). They are a lifesaver if you have sore nipples.

phew that was long.

coconutfeet · 20/05/2010 09:36

KSal - I had a Close carrier too and it was fantastic for the early days. I didn't find that it lasted as long as they say because as S got heavier he just dragged the whole thing down, but they've got a good resale value on Ebay so worth getting, I think.

CSWS - I can't believe how quickly your pregnancy seems to have gone. Do you feel like it's flown by too, or has all the diet stuff made it drag too much?

Star - Any developments on the flat?

I've just given S a DIY haircut. Not sure it was a great idea.

pistachio - yeah I get that, totally. I just felt like it was best for me to have the nursing cover. It just made it all better for me. Whatever works, everyone is different.

aubergenie - There is a possibility that someone might want to buy it!! (cash buyer).... now that I've said it on here, I'm sure it won't happen but who knows?!

I thought about doing a diy haircut, too, but then decided against it... it's getting in his eyes, though.

Ekka · 20/05/2010 11:46

Star - I refuse to do diy haircuts as I have an awful memory of the time my mum tried to cut my fringe and it got shorter and shorter as she tried to get it straight, until it was so short it just stuck up in the air . I was a bit older and definitely NOT impressed!!!! Mind you, at his age it doesn't matter so much about the cut being perfect....

coconutfeet · 20/05/2010 12:14

Actually, on reflection his hair doesn't look too bad. I think it'll be better once it's been washed tonight.

Ooh fingers crossed Star. Is it someone who's going to rent it out? Cash buyers are often landlords, I think.

KSal · 20/05/2010 12:35

talking of haircuts.... my town has just got a new addition to the high street - a hairdresser solely dedicated to childrens haircuts.... called little roots or something.

apparently they have DVD screens and the chairs are planes and cars etc... dread to think what they cost.

emma is nowhere near a haircut yet... porr little mite will probably get a DIY version though!

StarExpat · 20/05/2010 12:41

No, an old lady who has sold her home and is downsizing. She wants to live in it. As long as it's not too far from the bus stop. It takes us 3 minutes to walk to it.

Ekka. How old were you??
