Thought this was about due, hope that's okay

Well, no solids here (forget who asked that, sorry) - except she licked my finger when I was pureeing some apple but I don't think that really counts ). I have icecubes of carrot, apple and pear ready in the freezer though but really she's fine on milk and I'm in no rush.

She's now all formula fed though - we did mix feed for a bit but she quickly forgot how to draw the hind milk so was getting less and less from me, plus we got thrush again so I really wasn't sorry to finish to be honest. I much prefer the routine we can have now and am just pleased she got 4 months of breast first. It really was as much as I could do and stay sane.

She is such a smiley baby it's untrue - you only have to glance her way and she beams, it's so nice to see. She naps better too - 2/3 hours in the afternoon plus a small nap in the morning - and that helps her be happier I'm sure. She was 15lb a couple of weeks ago by the way.

She's 4 months, 1 week and 3 days old today.

Cristina well done and good luck misdee with the driving.

I keep meaning to take rebecca swimming as I'm sure she'd love it but I haven't figured out how I'd manage two of them in the pool and changing room yet, maybe I'll talk dh into going with us at the weekend - that'd help. Dd1 is so lively and into everything I'd probably lose her while looking after dd2.

Had a really lovely moment today with my two. DD put her Kylie CD on and was dancing around in the playroom. Harrison was lying on the floor (still no sitting or crawling) laughing at her, so I picked him up and we joined in. The three of us were jumping around and he was screaming with laughter like he just couldn't stop.

It's what it's all about

Am very impressed by all the foods your babies are eating. Harrison eats porridge, pureed food and baby rice and that's it. I gave him banana the other day and he couldn't spit it out fast enough !! He did eat the cover of DD's Beauty and the Beast DVD today though

busywizzy · 24/09/2005 19:42

Hurray to Niklaus for drinking water

Pidge · 25/09/2005 10:10

Iris slept through the night!

Pretty unbelievable, having woken at 1, 3 and 5ish the night before, she suddenly went 7-7 without feeding. She woke at one-ish, but by the time I was getting out of bed to go to her she had put herself back to sleep again. I feel like bionic woman this morning after all that snooze!

Whether she ever does it again of course is another matter .... !

jambot · 25/09/2005 10:58

Hooray for Iris!!! and Mummy too. It's a wonderful feeling isn't it? Long may it continue. At least you know that she's capable of doing it now.
Am of to change Lauren's nappy. 3rd poo of the day and it's not even lunchtime!!

busywizzy · 25/09/2005 15:24

Oh Pidge That's fantastic news and long may it continue.

Leogaela · 25/09/2005 18:42

Pidge, that's fantastic! I hope she has finally cracked it!

I am a bit sleep obsessed at the moment, it bothers me that I can't get Niklas to go to bed before 9 at night. Last night he woke up again but i managed to settle him with out feeding so its not so bad. But what worries me is that a certain book (the author of which shall not be mentioned ) says that a baby of Niklas's age should be sleeping 16 hours a day, Niklas seems to sleep only 12 or 13. How many hours do your babies sleep?

shalaa · 25/09/2005 19:24

Feel like a zombie, only had 3hrs sleep last night. Baby with a bad cold + teething = no rest for mummy.

On the plus side he's sleeping well at the moment and does seem a little better today. Gave him some of my pumpkin soup (on the recipe page) and he seemed to like it. He's not eating very well and will only have a few mouthfuls before he starts shaking his head and crying, still wanting to BF lots though. Keeps saying mamam and dadada, also says 'mum' or something like it. Either way he's still my gorgeous little bug of love!!

shalaa · 25/09/2005 19:25

hmm that post doesn't make alot of sense! He's sleeping now so hopefully i'll get some rest tonight, it was Saturday night that he was awake for ages.

bonym · 25/09/2005 20:56

Leogaela and Shaalaa - at the (lack of) sleep, but Pidge - WOOO HOOO!! . Gives me hope.

Leogaela - Grace sleeps between 14-15 hours most days/nights, but I wouldn't worry too much as long as Niklaus doesn't seem to be getting overtired. After all, they are all different, and I guess dear GF (if that's who it is ) is just giving an average. I take most things she says with a hefty pinch of salt anyway

Grace is still waking for a feed anytime between 3-5am and usually wakes once before then but will go back to sleep if I give her her dummy. Problem is, once she's had the feed she won't go back for any longer than 2 hours before waking for another feed. If we're lucky she might then go back for another hour. No idea what happened to my amazing sleeping baby who was going through the night until she hit the 4mth mark.

Busywizzy - we were all (dh included) dancing round the breakfast room to Van Morrison this morning (Grace in my arms)! Like Harrison, she was giggling fit to burst . DD1 can make her laugh like nobody else - not quite sure what her secret is - when I try to copy whatever she's doing, it doesn't really have the same effect. Grace just looks at me as though I've gone a bit daft .

Jambot - how lovely about the cuddles. I can't wait until Grace starts giving proper cuddles. She does rest her head on my chest and sort of snuggle a bit sometimes and I say "ahhh - cuddles" () to her, so hope she will get the idea soon!

Leogaela · 25/09/2005 21:16

Well Niklas went to sleep tonight at 8 ! I took him swimming today and we spent a long time in the water so maybe that helped tire him out! I accidently discovered that he still has his underwater reflex to stop breathing....he is such a wriggly little thing!

We are having big difficulties changing his nappies at the moment, can't get him to stay on his back long enough to do it! Any tips???

I am also spending the day chasing around putting cushions behind him, he sits himself up but still sometimes throws himself backwards. I surround him with cushions which he thinks is a game, so crawls over them, sits himself up somewhere else, I move the cushions and then a few minutes later he is off again!

Makes your heart melt doesn't it when they do something affectionate to you! I am sure Niklas was trying to kiss me today !

I am impressed that some of your babies are making mama dada sounds, Niklas still just squeals, gurgles and blows rasberries (hilarious when he has a mouthful of food!)

Bonym - I'm not really suffering from lack of sleep, I've just been spoiled as Niklas has been sleeping so well for such a long time!

Shalaa - hope Caleb sleeps well tonight and gets better fast so you can catch up on your sleep.

JoPG · 25/09/2005 21:18

Bonym - I know what you mean about sibling being able to make baby laugh better than anyone else. DS1 (age 4) also manages to elcit hearty chuckles from Freya, she seems to find him completely hilarious.

Freya is doing well in her own room, she slept really well last night and went down like a dream tonight. Her cot and grobag are all familiar though, so things probably don't seem to have changed much for her. Our room seems very empty though

DS1 starts school tomorrow! He is very excited. I am a little sad about losing my first baby, but pleased that he is looking forward to it.

JoPG · 25/09/2005 21:24

Leogaela - What about giving Niklas something to play with while you are changing his nappy? It might distract him and give you just enough time to change him.
Freya also just squeals etc. She is not saying mama or dada yet (or anything even remotely like it).

Have bought Freya a fab t-shirt. On the front it says 'I love Mummy', and on the back it says 'And Mummy loves me'. She looks really cute in it (though I concede that I might be a llittle biased!!)

jambot · 26/09/2005 06:45

Leogaela - Lauren is sleeping 3 to 4 hours in the day and about 11 to 12 at night. More often 11, which means I'm up and about fairly early. She is quite happy to lie awake in bed for quite a while before calling me. She sleeps well during the night and I rarely have to go in to her. Said touching all wooden surfaces and crossing ten fingers and toes! Find if you ever say anything about your baby's good sleeping habits they do exactly the opposite the next night!

busywizzy · 26/09/2005 08:57

Shalaa, I can so sympathise with you as Harrison's two bottom teeth are just cutting through his gums at the moment and he has been very unsettled at night as a result.

Yesterday evening DD performed at the Theatre Royal in Windsor at a charity benefit for Macmillan Caner Relief. Lots of famous people involved and I was so v.v.v.proud of her. However, by the time we got home, I put her to bed and made up Harrison's bottles which DH had forgotten to do , it was almost 1.00am. So of course, last night was the night Harrison chose to wake up at 2.30am (he slept through the night before) and stayed awake until 4.00am . He then woke up bright eyed this morning at 6.30am so up I got. I've just put him down for a sleep and am now walking around like a zombie trying to get everything ready for DD for school. Thankfully she doesn't have to go in until late so I'm off to make us some breakfast which we'll have in bed together

LG - Harrison has two naps in the day totalling about 2-3 hours and (usually !!) sleeps about 11 hours at night.

JoPG - so glad to hear Freya likes her new room

Pidge - how was Iris last night ?

Norash - where are you, we haven't heard from you for a while

busywizzy · 26/09/2005 08:58

LG - almost meant to add that I give Harrison a nappy to hold whilst I'm changing him. Keeps him entertained as much as any of his toys

jambot · 26/09/2005 09:45

Noticed that quite a few mums haven't been on in a while. Popsycal, Misdee, Tamula (for ages), Zoec. We miss your news, hope you come back soon.

Pidge · 26/09/2005 11:54

Jopg - Good luck to your ds for his first day at school. And good luck to you too - I still can't imagine my little baby (now aged 3!) going off to school. It seems so grown up doesn't it?

Leogaela - as far as averages are worth knowing about, I was actually under the impression that 14 hours was the rough norm for babies this age. But I may well have that wrong. 16 hours does seem like an awful lot though. Anyway, Iris does about 11-12 at night and roughly 2 in the day.

She is also a challenge at nappy change time - totally unlike her older sister who was always very placid and used to lie there cooing and giggling whilst you did your stuff. Iris attempts to hurdle sideways off our changing table, and no amount of toys or other distractions seem to persuade her to stay on her back. The best approach I've found is to tickle her round the waist, as that seems to prevent her moving! Though cleaning up poo whilst also tickling her is a multitasking challenge.

Busywizzy - how sweet with your dd's performance - I bet she was so excited to have her big moment.

Meanwhile, in the sleep obsessed world of the pidge household ... we worked out why Iris slept so brilliantly, as she has now come down with a stinking cold. Last night she was back to waking at 2.30am and 5.30am, but still that's a lot better than what she was doing before. And like you say jambot - at least I know she can do it now. I'm sure her waking is more habit than hunger so I'm trying to resettle her with the shortest of feeds, or with no feed at all if she'll accept that.

We just inherited a backpack, so have been out with her in the and she loves it. Only real challenge is that she loves to pull hard on my hair whilst in it. I got some funny looks from other pedestrians, as I suddenly yelped "ouch" on one really hard tug.

shalaa · 26/09/2005 13:44

shalaa not function well sleep without...

not a brilliant night, he went to sleep at 7pm woke at 10pm for a feed then woke at 2pm, 2.15pm and 3pm. At 3pm I gave up and brought him into bed with me and he slept till 6am, managed to amuse himself till 7am when he then had a nap till 8am. DP looked after him till 10am so I could sleep and i've just took him for a 3hr walk and he's fast asleep in his pushchair!

Caleb also refuses to hold still when nappy changing so i've now mastered the art of putting on a nappy when he's on his front! Caleb's also a bit off his food and his nappies are horrid but I still can't see any sign of any teeth!

Busywizzy hope for mine and your sanity we both get a decent nights rest tonight! Leogaela Caleb also throws himself backwards. He's very into ripping up and chewing paper, i'm forever scooping it out of his mouth!

busywizzy · 26/09/2005 19:18

We've had a lovely day - very much in order after the horrendous night we had

As DD didn't have to be in school until lunchtime due to her late night yesterday, we had a cuddle in bed this morning whilst Harrison was sleeping. I don't get nearly enough time on my own with her these days as playing outside with friends is far more desireable than being with boring mum, so this was a special treat for me.

Once we dropped DD at school, Harrison and I went to his swimming lesson. I'm persevering with putting him under the water and he's persevering with screaming his head off.

When we got back at 1.30pm, he went for a sleep so I decided to put my head down for a nap as well ..................... and we both woke up at 4.00pm Feel supercharged.

He's fast asleep in bed now so off to tackle the nightmare that is DD's homework !!!! Fingers crossed for a better night.

Oh almost forgot, Harrison has his bottom two teeth just popped through this morning so that will account for the cold, excessive dribbling, gross nappies and broken sleep Aren't teeth wonderful things.

jambot · 27/09/2005 06:49

Knew I shouldn't have said anything about Lauren's sleep. She woke me at 3:30. Don't know what was wrong but took me an hour to get her back down, after nappy change, some juice and some cuddles and much singing of 'We are Sailing'. Don't ask me how or why but that is her ' relax and go to sleep' song. Don't know the words other than the first few lines so just make up rubbish. She doesn't seem to mind and it seems to work. Think she might have had a bad dream and just couldn't settle herself! I then couldn't get back to sleep as it was freezing last night and I couldn't get warm. Just woke now at 7:30 and Lauren is still asleep. Will leave her awhile.

bonym · 27/09/2005 11:22

Another bad night here . Woke 2.30am and wouldn't settle so I eventually fed her, then, instead of going straight back to sleep like she usually does, she fussed for ages. Woke again about 5am (?), fed again, then woke again about 6.30am at which point dh got up with her.

Am now regretting having started with a dummy (as I knew I would). Whilst she will happily go to sleep in her pram or in the car without it, if she is in bed she "needs" it to drop off. Not really sure what to do - can't quite face going cold turkey as, if she gets herself really het up, nothing else will pacify her (not breast, cuddles, songs, anything). She used to be such a good sleeper as well...

Anyway, she is sleeping now - took her "swimming" this morning so hopefully she will be worn out enough to have a really good nap.

Think it may be time for a new thread, as this one is getting rather long.
