Thought this was about due, hope that's okay

Well, no solids here (forget who asked that, sorry) - except she licked my finger when I was pureeing some apple but I don't think that really counts ). I have icecubes of carrot, apple and pear ready in the freezer though but really she's fine on milk and I'm in no rush.

She's now all formula fed though - we did mix feed for a bit but she quickly forgot how to draw the hind milk so was getting less and less from me, plus we got thrush again so I really wasn't sorry to finish to be honest. I much prefer the routine we can have now and am just pleased she got 4 months of breast first. It really was as much as I could do and stay sane.

She is such a smiley baby it's untrue - you only have to glance her way and she beams, it's so nice to see. She naps better too - 2/3 hours in the afternoon plus a small nap in the morning - and that helps her be happier I'm sure. She was 15lb a couple of weeks ago by the way.

She's 4 months, 1 week and 3 days old today.

Cristina well done and good luck misdee with the driving.

I keep meaning to take rebecca swimming as I'm sure she'd love it but I haven't figured out how I'd manage two of them in the pool and changing room yet, maybe I'll talk dh into going with us at the weekend - that'd help. Dd1 is so lively and into everything I'd probably lose her while looking after dd2.

Iris slept till 2am - 7 hours - hurrah!

And continues her love of baby rice .

Also had a lovely day in our local park which has just been reopened after being spruced up. We had a typical British picnic with friends interrupted by a veritable monsoon! All 7 of us had to cower under a tree with the picnic rug over our heads!

Misdee we have the same problem with Iris howling in the car. Luckily we don't use it much - but it nearly breaks my heart when we do. You're amazing entertaining three - I find it quite a challenge being split two ways. Not that this has put me off the idea of another baby ...

Cristina7 · 10/09/2005 18:43

Misdee - have you passed your driving test then? We have the same problem with Sylvia crying in the car. Very upsetting for all.

Sweeney - the irony of your pleading for respect whilst being rude hasn't escaped me.

I've put back on most of the weight I'd lost on WeightWatchers in just 3 weeks in Romania. Oh well, back to counting points. I saw a nice red winter coat in a magazine and I'd like to get it. It's £90 from Debenhams (one of these Designers at Debenhams range). I'll get it in size 14 rather than a hopeful 12!

Cristina7 · 10/09/2005 18:47

Re baby rice: today Sylvia had some normal, Thai rice (which I was having for lunch) and she liked it and didn't choke on it. Last week she had some sticky rice (pilaff) and loved that too. Again, I worried a bit that she might choke on it but she surprised me.

misdee · 10/09/2005 18:53

not passed yet, test at the end of the month, but she does scream when in the car. my dad/mil offers to stop but i say no if i know she will drop off soon. the only time we have stopped is when it was feeding time and we were stuck in a traffic jam. we pulled into a car park so i could feed her.

busywizzy · 10/09/2005 19:06

Hello everyone,

Inspired by Jambot, DH and I have today been out and bought a Macpac Vamoose baby carrier. I feel like a trussed up horse wearing it but when we put Harrison in it he chuckled away and clearly thought it was a great new game. Adorable We really went mad today and bought new walking boots for us all as well (my current pair are about 10 years old) so tomorrow we are off to the local country park to try it all out.

On the sleep front, Harrison slept from 6.30pm until 5.45am but unfortunately, wanted to get up then and nothing I could do would settle him, he woke the whole house so up we all got. By 7.00am he was tired so he went back to bed and so did we. We all resurfaced just after 9.00am so it felt like we'd had a Sunday morning lie-in together

Harrison loves his baby rice and has it for tea every day with fruit puree. Cristina, I'm well impressed by you trying different types of rice with Sylvia. I gave Harrison a tiny, tiny piece of raw carrot the other day and watched him like a hawk to make sure he didn't choke and then checked his mouth to make sure he had swallowed it. He had his 'what on earth are you doing mummy' look on his face

All fast asleep in our house now so off to start on the next bedtime ritual now with DD.

Sleep vibes to all and Pidge, so very happy that Iris slept well. Popsycal, how was Harry?

shalaa · 10/09/2005 19:06

Cristina7 my wardrobe is full of clothes in a hopeful size 12!

Caleb seems to quite enjoy being in the car, sits their banging his toys or just goes to sleep. He's getting so frustrated not being able to crawl though!

My mum got him a zebra on wheels and his feet touch the floor already, he loves sitting on it holding on to the ears as we push him up and down the hallway

busywizzy · 10/09/2005 19:12

Shalaa, how was Caleb last night ?

shalaa · 10/09/2005 19:18

Hi! Caleb still not sleeping through the night, to be honest he's only ever slept through the night twice. He usually wakes at least 3 times during the night and always wide awake between 6am-7am. Am not feeling too bad, we usually cuddle up on the bed and have a 1-2hr nap in the afternoon together

jambot · 10/09/2005 19:59

Also sitting with tons of size 12's! Got to get my act into gear before Mauritius in December. Refuse to hide away from every camera that gets produced because I feel like a beached whale. Must admit my gymming is paying off - much firmer but still a size too big. Must admit I'm sitting here eating ready made custard in front of the computer - straight from the plastic container! I live in hope that the weight will just drop off without me lifting a finger!

shalaa · 10/09/2005 20:18

If you could lose weight just by thinking of exercising I would be a size zero!!

(is the custard nice?...)

busywizzy · 10/09/2005 20:32

Try having a DD who tells says 'mummy, your bottom is soooo much bigger since Harry was born'. The honesty of children

Shalaa, 3 times a night is better than 5 and at least you get to snooze with him during the day. I used to do this with Harrison when he was feeding 2-3 times in the night and I sort of miss it. Having said that, I equally enjoy catching up with Coronation Street and Emmerdale on ITV2 when he sleeps now

jambot · 11/09/2005 05:29

Lauren spent the night at my Mum and Dad, and I still woke up at 5:45! Will probably go back to bed for a while as I only have to pick her up at 11. There you are thinking you'll have a lovely lie-in and you still wake up at the crack of dawn. Frustrating!

jambot · 11/09/2005 05:30

Oh and the custard was scrummy...at the time. Now I just feel guilty and am sitting here with a big bottle of water!

Pidge · 11/09/2005 08:35

busywizzy - that's a classic - my dd prods my tummy and says "mummy's got a fat tummy" - it's not even that tubby! But I met a friend who'd done a 10k run yesterday and has a baby the same age as Iris (she's in marathon training) and I vowed to get my trainers on myself. I've been using lack of sleep and breastfeeding as an excuse, but I would like to get fitter again.

To continue my reputation as a sleep bore ... Iris woke at 9, and 11, but I didn't need to go to her. Without wanting to go into the whole crying thing again, she was making quite a loud noise each time, but it sounded like a "I want to put myself to sleep" moan, accompanied by furious finger sucking. It was never full blown crying. So I left her and she did settle herself after 5-15 minutes. But then woke at 1 and 5 as well, and was up and raring to go at 6.30am, as was older dd.

It was so much easier with one child, because Iris will now slep again at 8.30am, and when we just had our older dd we would have gone back to bed too. But now there's the small matter of a three year old to entertain. Hey ho ...

Maybe I should make a resolution not to mention sleep on here for a week!

shalaa · 11/09/2005 11:58

Caleb woke up 7 times last night! Was wide awake by 6.30am, I feel knackered today. DP has just taken him out in the pushchair for a long walk so i'm trying to chill, should be sleeping but can't drop off.

Also use BF as an excuse for no exercise! I love running but where I live it's not safe to go jogging round the park or streets at night and there's too many people round in the daytime. Hate the thought of people seeing my fat ass wobbling round the park!

Pidge · 11/09/2005 14:41

Yikes shalaa - 7 times - poor you.

My dp gets a gold medal this morning - he offered to look after dd1 whilst I took a nap with Iris. What's more Iris broke all previous records and slept for 1.5 hours! So I now feel bionic. Until a week ago she only ever slept for half an hour at a time during the day, but she finally seems to be getting the hang of longer naps.

misdee · 11/09/2005 14:42

serena is chomping on a piece of apple. i am keeping a vwery cose eye on her in case of choking, but she seems to really like it.

JoPG · 11/09/2005 20:16

Hi All,

Just back from our hols in the Isle of Wight. DS1 loved it. It was great to have DH around, and I managed to spend some 'one on one' time with DS1 which I haven't been able to do for ages. We both loved it and it reminded me what a super little boy he is.
Freya is just starting on some food, very fond of sweet potato and carrot. She does insist on trying to help, she grabs at the spoon and the food flicks everywhere. Have tried to tell her that it's best to leave the feeding to Mummy, but she just smiles and grabs the spoon again.
Freya is just about sitting, but nowhere near crawling (hurrah, she is always exactly where I leave her!)
Hope everyone gets a good sleep tonight .....

busywizzy · 11/09/2005 20:31

Welcome back JoPG. Glad you had a good hols.

Went walking today with Harrison in his new backpack, we loved it. He kept opening his mouth wide like this as if he couldn't quite work out why he was so high up.

Have finally worked out how to add piccies to the photobucket so you can now all see what my little man looks like.

On a completely different subject, has anyone bought or is thinking about buying a highchair yet and if so, which one are you going for?

We had another early morning start so hope this is 'just a phase' as I'm not coping very well with days which start before 6.00am Not complaining though as would be too embarrassed if Shalaa heard me

Sleep vibes to everyone.

bonym · 11/09/2005 20:34

Hi everyone. We went to my parents' for lunch today which was great but Grace refused to go to sleep the whole afternoon (and had only had a 1/2 hr nap this morning). Consequently, she was completely overtired this evening and even though I tried to put her to bed earlier than usual it took me ages to settle her as the poor little thing just didn't know what to do with herself - she cried and cried and not even her beloved dummy would calm her. I just had to cuddle her on our bed for ages until she was calm and finally managed to get her to bed and asleep about an hour after I'd taken her up. I can see the daytime sleeping becoming a problem. She is so inquisitive that unless she is in her cot and the house is quiet she will not go off. Gone are the days when she would sleep anywhere!
She is so different from dd1 - she wants to touch everything and is so interested in everything that is going on. DD1 was never the type to want to go in the cupboards and touch things she shouldn't but I reckon that as soon as Grace is crawling (which I don't think will be too long) she will be in to everything. Some major baby proofing is called for I think!
We bought her a highchair last week which is making life a lot easier as I can get on and do things in the kitchen without her getting frustrated because she can't see what is going on. She is enjoying her food - we tried butternut squash yesterday which was quite popular!
She is such a gorgeous cuddly, giggly thing - I can't believe that she will be 6 months in just over a week - it seems such a short time ago that we were all still pregnant.
Hope everyone gets a good night's sleep tonight .

bonym · 11/09/2005 20:37

Oh busywizzy - just read your message - we bought the Kuster highchair which is fab - Grace is really comfy in it with the cushions, it's really easy to fold and the tray comes off quickly if you want to put it up to the table. It looks great too .

busywizzy · 11/09/2005 20:52

Ohhhh bonym, love the Kuster so thanks for that.

Harrison is just like Grace and has trouble settling if he isn't in a dark, quiet room. Fortunately, he will happily sleep on other people's beds if the room meets his requirements so I stack pillows galore along the side of him so he doesn't roll. Not sure what we'll do once he's more mobile.

Hope Grace sleeps OK tonight.

bonym · 11/09/2005 22:54

Mothercare have £30 off it at the moment, but don't include the cushions so if you want them the overall price is the same as Urchin's.

JoPG · 12/09/2005 08:12

We have the Chicco highchair. It's very comfy and the seat reclines if baby is getting a bit fed up with trying to sit up. DS1 even fell asleep in it a couple of times, so it must be very comfy. Only downside is that it is quite bulky. Freya seems to like it too, tho she has only sat in it a couple of times so far as we have been using her bumbo to feed her in.

Cristina7 · 12/09/2005 10:54

Hi all. Just a quick note to say I may be off the computer for a while as it's being very temperamental at the moment and needs fixing.

We too have a highchair for Sylvia - a Mothercare one Dominic used 5 years ago (it was about £40, so not too flashy). She sits nicely in it and likes playing with toys on the table and with her food.

Sylvia has been breastfeeding less lately and I wonder if this is because of introducing solids or due to teething. I've tried to cut down on the solids in case this was it but she hasn't taken up milk instead. I haven't felt the let-down reflex either these past couple of days and I haven't leaked at night. I wonder what's going on as I'd like to continue BF for longer.
