Biscuits, that's the disadvantage of being a teacher! I'm trying not to be too teacher-ish with A as I'm very aware of it. I'm truly not looking forward to my first parents' evening sitting on the other side of the desk!

spider, with you on the parties - we went away for a week for A's birthday last year and it was lovely .

Good point about the balance bike - although we do have a good park nearby, but would be interested to know if you just use them on the pavement/road outside AH?

DebInAustria · 23/04/2010 10:59

Abdn - sorry to hear about your crash - no wonder you're feeling down but I'm sure your dh wouldn't want you to be feeling guilty about the money it might cost - the most important thing is that no-one was hurt. I hope that it all gets sorted out soon for you.

Spider - lol at not being bothered about parties! How are you feeling at the moment? Still so tired? When's your scan?

Eddie - it isn't easy being a teacher parent, it's hard to get the balance right.

As a nursery teacher I would much rather get a happy child in with a love of books, than a child who has been "trained" from an early age to identify letters and sounds. There are years and years of education ahead of our children, now is the time to play!!

Amberc · 23/04/2010 11:53

Oh Blimey Aberdeen - what a nightmare - thank God you are OK!

PiggyPenguin · 23/04/2010 13:35

Addn - you poor thing! hope you are ok today. I really wouldn't worry about your dh being cross about the money. I guarantee that all he cares about is that no one got hurt. I hope the insurance people give you the right outcome.

Eddie - oh, fellow moving sufferer. I feel your pain. They obviously didn't say anything earlier in case it screwed them over their purchase. It's not fair on you though and I would be fuming in your place. The people we are buying from got the house they were putting a sealed bid on. Thank god, as they have since made it clear they were thinking of taking their's off the market otherwise and then we would have been royally screwed. Now we just need to keep fingers crossed that it goes well from here.

My dh is on a diet (increased life insurance premiums have succeeded were all my moaning couldn't). He has lost 13lbs in 2 weeks. He went to work this morning in a pair of jeans which he has had for ages, but has only today discovered are too short when on his actual waistline. Previously he has only been able to get them under his belly.

Rolf · 23/04/2010 13:44

Poor you Abdn. I hope you're feeling less shaken today. What a horrible thing to happen.

Our car got clamped as I forgot to pay the car tax . It's costing a fortune to get it sorted out, and will involve a trip to Widness (not something people do voluntarily) which DH will have to do, so I'm in disgrace.

abdnhiker · 23/04/2010 13:50

bikes - the boys ride their bikes on the pavement only - I'd not trust them on the road. we also have patio in the garden and they ride in circles around that for hours.

We're waiting to hear if the car is going to be written off - if it's not then it's just the excess as our no claims discount is even protected. The bad bit is that our car is only worth £2000, so the chance of them writing it off seems high. Fingers crossed - although we probably wont know until Monday. DH is being an absolute sweetie - this is when he's at his best, making me feel like it's all going to be just fine without downplaying it.

thanks for all the teacher advice - we went to the library today so I'm feeling like a good mum. Actually DS1 has told the neighbours, the optometrist, his friends mother and the people on the bus that he's very happy I broke the car because he gets to ride on the bus now and he gets to go to nursery with his friend Harry. Oh well.

sybil glad your house move is hopefully going smoothly and fingers crossed for eddie

DebInAustria · 23/04/2010 15:14

Oh Rolf - lol at the trip to Widnes for your dh! I keep meaning to ask how's your dd1 getting on at school now?

Abdn - glad you're feeling better and that your ds1 can see the positive in it all

Sybil - well done to your dh, that's an amazing amount to lose in 2 weeks

Sybil and Eddie - good luck with the house moving, we're still no further on here, we know that the people are making an offer and are coming back but we still don't know what the offer is.

neenz · 23/04/2010 16:05

Abdn, how annoying about the crash - and scary too, it's amazing how easily these things can happen. I know how you feel about the money - when we were saving to get married, I was using MSE and making all sorts of little savings here and there and was really pleased - then I went and backed into someone in Tesco carpark. I was distraught - I thought what's the point of being careful with money if I am just going to throw it all away by not looking properly when I am backing out. Anyway, miraculously we never got a bill for the damage. I hope they don't write your car off - it is very annoying when they do that, cos you know your own car is decent but wouldn't buy someone else's 8yo car like you say.

Sybil, great news on the house! Sounds like it is meant to be. Eddie at those buyers. Sounds like they kept quiet to not lose the house.

You can get ITNG tickets for £5 for the 9.30 show but trying to get to Liverpool for that time would be no fun at all so we ruled that out

Theo has just fallen over in the garden and now his head is bleeding at the back! I didn't notice at first, he cried for ages and had his hands on his head, I thought he had hit the front of his head and could see there was no major damage. Now I can see the cut cos of the blood so I must go and see whether he needs to go to A&E

neenz · 23/04/2010 16:15

Well he didn't pass out and the bleeding seems to have stopped so I don't think we need to go to hospital .

I do feel bad for MNing while he cried though (I did give him a cuddle at first but he kept wriggling to get down and then when he kept crying I cuddled him while I MN'd - but I thought he was just overreacting) . I hjave given him some nurofen.

Bad mummy

The other day I opened the top drawer of the pan cupboard and left it open - E ran right past and whacked her head on it. I felt really bad about that cos it was my fault!

Spider, lol at hating kids parties. I definitely felt like that at 1yo, but now they are 2 I am thinking they can just run around the garden while the parents relax. I actually like going to parties with the DTs now cos it keeps them occupied

Amberc · 23/04/2010 16:24

Oh Neenz - poor Theo! And poor Esther!

Sybil - why is it that men lose weight so fast when they put their minds to it while we women starve for months only to lose a few pounds?! How did he do it?

PS I'm not pregnant again. Ho hum.

SpiderWilliam · 23/04/2010 16:24

AH poor you. So, glad you are fine. Try not to worry about the money, it's not what is important in life, it's just useful.

Lovely morning with Eddie, for us at least. Poor A was sick on the way in the car, then sick again later on. Eddie ended up feeding M on a blanket with a sad vomity toddler sitting her lap. Eddie - hope the home journey was less traumatic for all three of you.

Thanks for asking Deb. I am still feeling a bit grim, but not all the time. Eddie will probably think I am moaning about nothing as I was feeling good this morning. Afternoons and evenings seem to be worse. The scan is a week today. Fingers crossed your offer comes through soon.

Sybil that is impressive about your DH's weight loss. Sounds very typical of a man that he an lose weight easily when there is a financial incentive. For women it tends not to work quite like that. What a relief that your sellers won their sealed bid. Lets hope there is no more messing around in your chain.

PiggyPenguin · 23/04/2010 17:34

thanks for the good vibes about the house, I'm sure it helps

Dh has lost weight fast, but to be honest I think that is partly because there is quite a bit to lose! He is not having any carbs and trying to be low fat. So a typical day would be a piece of fruit (apple/pear) for breakfast, vegetable soup or ham/chicken salad for lunch, and then salmon/chicken with salad or veg for tea. Although we had some of those lower fat frankfurters with tomatoes and mushrooms and egg for tea last night and it was yummy!

Eddie hope is feeling better.

Amber sorry to hear your 2ww has not been a success. Its just shitty that it is proving so hard this time around. for you.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 23/04/2010 19:50

Thanks for all the best wishes re: the house. sybil, pleased to hear that your vendors got their house, hope things start moving for you now.

Amber, so sorry to hear your news .

Neenz, hope T is ok.

Deb, that system of putting offers on sounds so frustrating - how long will you have to wait for the offer?

Spider, it was lovely to see you this morning - sorry for all the stress! A was sick again on the way home, then asked to go in his cot, slept for two hours before waking up and scoffing two pieces of toast!

The pics of the boys didn't come out v well but I have a gorgeous one of P which I will email you . Let's do it again soon when hopefully A will be well!

Had a v sweet bedtime - M didn't settle so I went back up to feed him some more milk. A was already snuggled under his duvet and half asleep, but when I got M out of his cot, A stood up, reached over to hold the bottle with one hand and stroked M's head with his other . When M had finished A lay back down, pulled his duvet over him and fell asleep. I could have cried it was so sweet!

Neenz, just been reading a story on my infertility website - woman who had twins 2 1/2 years ago via IVF, then conceived naturally . . . . second set of twins! They are due around the first set of twins 3rd birthday, just before Christmas!

Rolf · 23/04/2010 19:53

sorry Amber

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 23/04/2010 20:26

Just come on to share that I just bought £30 of Vertbaudet clothes for S via the La Redoute website for £15 with free delivery and a free gift. Get thee over to the promo codes topic if you fancy anything from there.

Amber am very for you. Hope you're doing ok.

Abdn so sorry to hear about your crash and relieved that you're ok. Agree with everyone else that the fact that you're ok is the main thing, though I appreciate it's a complete pain re: the money. I've had a few things lately where I've been quite good with money and then through our own fault ended up having to fork out loads Neenz so I share your frustration with things like that!

Eddie sorry to hear about A being poorly. Hope he has a good night's sleep.

Funny story from today (well, to me anyway). We had curry for tea and S saw DH scooping up some with his chippati (sp?) and proceeded to start spooning his own curry onto his chippati. He was very pleased with himself

Must crack on!

SpiderWilliam · 23/04/2010 20:49

Amber I x-posted with you earlier on. Very sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you

Eddie poor A. The bedtime story so sweet though.

EddieIzzardismyhero · 23/04/2010 20:56

Thanks spider .

DG, can you point me in the right direction of the promo codes?!

EddieIzzardismyhero · 23/04/2010 21:07

It's ok, found it!

neenz · 23/04/2010 21:21

Amber, I'm sorry - ttc sucks doesn't it.

Eddie and DG, cute stories! Sorry about A, esp as you hate sick don't you. The story about the woman who has conceived twins again made me well up. How lovely (although I am very glad I am only having one this time!)

Sybil, good on your DH. My FIL lost 6st in a year by eating apples . Under doctor's supervision! When the first grandchild was born he couldn't even go out for a walk with the pram cos he was so overweight (about 18st I think and he's only about 5ft 8 tall if that) and his knees were so painful. So he went to see his Dr nephew who is a diabetes specialist, they are trialling this new diet where you basically eat just apples. It worked for him - I think the speed the weight came off just spurred him on and on. He had tried WW, SW, all the low-fat diets and 1-2lb a week just never did it for him. He has put a bit back on now as you'd expect but he gets put on 'report' by the doc if he puts too much on and has to lose it again. He has been told that it will have messed up his metabolism so much that if he did put on the weight again he might never get it off. It was an extreme diet and not very healthy but I think a lot healthier than being one cake away from a heart attack which he was. Now he hardly takes any of the pain or heart meds he had to take before .

T seems OK after his bang/cut to the head. It actually didn't stop bleeding entirely - he had a big streak of blood down his hair to his neck. The nhs website said put pressure on it with a cloth for 10mins but you can imagine how well that went down - I managed about 3mins. After his bath it was still bleeding a little but not very much so I have put him to bed and keep checking on him and he is fast asleep and still breathing so OK I think! Definitely not drowsy or anything like that so I don't think he is concussed!

I have gone a bit mad on ebay and bought another cozy coupe car. The one I bought this week is red and yellow, and the first one is pink. Well they liked the pink one and played very well in it (ie not fighting) but they have gone crazy for the red one and both want to play in it at the same time so keep fighting like mad over it, even though the pink one is right there too . So I have bought another red one and will sell the pink one on. The little buggers!

DebInAustria · 24/04/2010 07:39

Sorry Amber x

Amberc · 24/04/2010 14:10

Thanks for all the sorrys guys - I have a feeling you will need to get used to saying it!

Eddie - poor Alex - hope he's better now.

Luke deffo has hayfever. he has inherited every single bad thing Mark has now.

Neenz - funny about the car isn't it?! I think I need to buy Luke a trike.

Isn't it beautiful weather today? We are going to take Luke to Legoland tomorrow - £38 each can you believe!! It better be good.

DebInAustria · 24/04/2010 14:56

Amber - surely there's some discount vouchers online somewhere?

DomesticGoddessInTraining · 24/04/2010 15:18

Definitely worth a google Amber. I'm sure I get discount for places like legoland with my bank.

After spending who knows how long humming and ha'ing between a balance bike and a wooden kitchen for S, I'm now contemplating a mini micro scooter for S's birthday after reading rave reviews about it on mumsnet. Never mind the mumsnet election, I reckon there's a whole mumsnet economy . Anyone got any experience of them?

Can you tell I should be revising

abdnhiker · 24/04/2010 17:59

Hugs Amber, I'm so sorry to hear that it didn't work this month. I'm really feeling for you!

£38 for legoland each!

DGT - All of DS1's friends with scooters were very jealous of how fast he could go on his balance bike - but scooters seemed to be better for more city stuff where keeping the speed down is actually a very good thing. I'm wayyyy to biased in favour of the balance bike - I've restrained myself from posting a big Noooo! in bold font...

SpiderWilliam · 24/04/2010 18:20

Just checked out the ITNG tour in London. at the prices £17.50-£27.50. No concessions for children (I realise why seeing as most the the audience will be under 5) Decided that as it would be 35 mins on the train then 15 mins on the tube, and I hopefully will be 6 months pregnant, I wont be bothering. Skin-flint DH has just pointed out: "It is free on the TV It is next to the O2 though, so maybe something that might be easier to get to for Amber and Puree (if you are lurking Puree )

Also Penguin hello. Are you lurking too? Was thinking about you today when I went past Centre Court Shopping Centre on the train. I never said thank-you for getting me (and Amber) into C London for that first meet up when the babies were 6 weeks old. That trip gave me so much more confidence, and a sense that I could handle this baby lark after all.
