Thanks Ruby. We're putting his meds back up again! William is almost sitting up without wobbling and falling over so not long now.

I gave him breakfast for the first time this morning so we ate porridge together which was nice

I'm also making pear purée so I've got stuff for quick desserts. At the moment just giving bits and pieces of veg. He had homemade chips today which he liked! Also going to make some bread otherwise I'd worry about the salt/sugar etc.

Can you tell William went to bed at 7, no fuss?? I have spare time!!

rubyslippers · 01/04/2010 20:07

happy holidays to you Fidelma and to everyone else

scout - yay for Seb's eating ...

iggly - double yay for 7 pm bedtime

BellaCullen · 01/04/2010 21:01

Fidelma thanks for all your advice will get some fish, sweet potatoes and avocadoes for him. I am glad youre trained in nutrition as I need as much advice as I can get.Have tried mashed potato before which he didnt like but will just give it to him cooked and then he can hold it.Ate some pasta today again when I had dinner.

Scout its great that Sebby liked the custard its great when you find something they actually like and don`t pull a funny face with when you put it in their mouths.

Have got easter eggs and some little treats for them didnt get anything for Nathaniel though feel a bit bad might look for a book for him tomorrow. Not sure when to do easter egg hunt as weather is so rubbish and cold.last year kids were wearing summer clothes at easter cant believe it was that warm then. Will spring ever come properly.

Have a great easter everyone xxx

I want to make an apple puree and a plum puree -- any ideas how to do it?

HappyTangerine · 01/04/2010 21:47

Happy hols everyone. We're off to Wales to see my mum and sister (and 40odd other members of my huge family)

Am glad talk has turned to weaning, you're all so great at advice.

I've had a grim few days, not helped by the migraine from hell returning complete with aura and sickness. Joseph was really hard work yesterday-took him out in his buggy to make sure he got some fresh/air sunlight and he went into meltdown, screamed all the way and kicked and arched so much he almost toppled the damn buggy. Narky people passing me comented, I dropped the shopping in the rain etc, just a really tough day. Sleep a battle as usual, he's waking up more often to feed at night and we're all like zombies.God, yesterday was hell. BUT I learnt to help him channel his frustration today when he was on his front and he managed to commando crawl a little.

Anyway, I wanted to wipe out the negative with a positive question-what makes your baby laugh? For Joe its mummy falling over and any word beginning with B . I sang the theme tune to Blankety Blank today and he found it hilarious!

Scout-lovely that you have your first coloured in pic and congrats on the custard!

HC Thanks for blender link, are you feeling better?

princessmel fantastic news that it wasn't chickn pox

Bella Congrats on the weight gain!

Calypso The Bugaboo bee looks so nice, how are you getting on with it?

Iggly Yay for the 7pm bedtime!

ruby right there with you on the weaning nappies-ugh

*Fidelma, God no, don't apologise for the weaning info! I feel a bit overwhelmed by it and had a bit of a panic earlier that I'd left it too lAate but he was onlu 6 month on Wednesday. I've been giving the Plum Organics 4 grain porridge every other day for lunch-migraine has prevented me from doing it daily (that and trying to express when dealing with hyper-baby). Then on alternate days, he has a bit of banana. Am starting on the purees this weekend. I hope to God it will help us at night.

Joe now awake and has done another explosive up the back poo (90% require change of clothes at the moment) so I'm off. Dh due home in 20 mins thank God. x

Igglybuff · 02/04/2010 09:35

HT good work on the crawling! I'm scared when they finally learn to move properly... I haven't baby proofed the house!
Sorry to heat about the migraine. Sounds really horrid
how old is Joe? Around weeks 22-26 the babies suposedly have a stormy period then a "wonder week" where they have a massive developmental leap. During that time they'll be trying out their new skill, getting scared and frustrated at the same time. I think this one is to do with relationships - so they're learning about distances, that things can be under/on/behind etc etc. Hence grumpy baby. Or so my book tells me!!! I have noticed William is incredibly stroppy at times.

On a happier note - William laughs at daddy throwing and catching things, at us dancing and waggling our heads. He also loves peek-a-boo (as now they learn that things still exist when they can't see them) and the "flying" game where we whizz him around. Hard on the back though

scout you can make the purees as you would for a fruit pie minus the sugar. So chop up, remove skin, pips, stones etc. Put in saucepan with a bit of water and heat for 5 mins or til the fruit softens. Then whizz with hand blender! Done.

I've signed up to sing and sign lessons so will be trying to teach William signs. I'm hoping it'll lessen any toddler tantrums as we'll be able to tell what he wants....

happy Easter everyone!

Blooming phone making me double post!

fidelma · 02/04/2010 20:25

We've had a lovely family day today. We all went for a walk in the glorious sunshine.I had a mummy moment. (in love with everyone)

We have made 3 batches of hot cross buns with varying degrees of success The ones from M and S are better though !!!!!However happy children.

My step dad is in hospital with a suspected heart attack and will be in until further tests next week It makes you appreciate everything alot more.My actual dad has retired this week so he is very chirpy

I was watching Flash Forward last night and found it very stressfull I only seem to be able to manage things like Mary Poppins !!!! However I kind of enjoyed it so we will try again tonight.

Off to read to DD2 and tickle DD1s back then onto the sofa with DH.

rubyslippers · 03/04/2010 09:44

sounds lovely Fidelma

we braved the supermarket yesterday!

weather grim here - DS has a party today so we will be out for a couple of hours

iggly - your book sounds interesting - what is it called? How are the bedtimes going?

scout - how were your purees?

hope everyone else is doing ok

Igglybuff · 03/04/2010 11:14

Morning!

fidelma sounds like a nice time you had! Although I hope your step dad is okay.

ruby bedtimes are still going well although wake ups have increased again to every two hours after a four hour chunk... How's Ruby's sleep?

The book is called the wonder weeks. It's really interesting! The website gives a brief overview of each week and the book itself has ideas for games appropriate to age etc.

We're off to the inlaws for niece's birthday later. I suspect William will be the centre of attention as he hasn't seen them all in a while!

Scout19075 · 03/04/2010 21:16

Happy 1st Easter, Babies! (And Happy Easter to Mommies and other DCs and Daddies, too!)

princessmel · 04/04/2010 21:39

Hello all
I did the dc's a treasure hunt with the clues on bunny and egg shaped paper (cut out by me...!!!) this morning to find their easter eggs.
Then we had my parents and my dsis and her dh round for a roast today. We did an egg hunt in the garden too

Dh has been plastering the playroom this weekend. It looks fab . I am very pleased with him and he's very proud of himself! He didn't think he could do it well enough, but he has and it's looks great.

Not much to report with ds2. Still dribbling like mad (new dry bib every half hour or so), and bf every few hours. He is pretty quick at feeding now, ususally takes between 5 and 10 minutes, not exactly sure as I don't time it.
He needs support to sit, but likes to 'sit' between our legs and play with his toys. We got a few new ones down from the loft that dd and ds1 had. Things that you press and they make noises and sing songs and flash etc ...

Not much rolling going on but has rolled from his tummy to his back a few random times.

Sorry to hear about your fil fidelma

Things that ds2 likes are...us singing nursery rhymes and pop songs. We sing Aleysha Keyes and Jay Z 'Empire state of mind', Midnight Train from 'Glee' and all sorts of others. He just looks at us transfixed !!
He likes being kissed all over his face! He also likes his legs being played with when he has no trousers on, infact he loves having his nappy, socks and trousers off. I kiss his feet too!!

Hope everyone's having a nice few days . xx

fidelma · 04/04/2010 23:28

Happy Easter to all and the little chicks

rubyslippers · 06/04/2010 07:53

glad you had a nice weekend - we did too

i am very broody - just been to see my friend and her newborn, although after the night i had with Rubes i think the feelings will pass

hope everyone is ok

HappyTangerine · 06/04/2010 10:50

Had lovely weekend in Wales, Joseph slept like a dream in bed with us at my mums. Its the best he's ever slept, we got 5 hrs uninterrupted sleep and felt amazing on Sunday.

On Sat night my aunt phoned with some amazing news that my cousin is pregnant. We are the same age, and like me, she'd had a mc, had been trying for years and just about given up. I was so happy for her, I burst into tears! On Sunday, just as we were about to leave, her brother and his wife turned up-we hadn't seen them for 2 years. It was so wonderful.

Joseph had some Organix pots to taste over the weekend as we were travelling. Butternut Squash and Sweet Potato for lunch and apple and mango for tea. He wolfed down the butternut squash/sweet potato, half a pot. Big name and praise to Little Chef, would recommend them as a good journey stop with a baby. Unfortunately, Joe developed horrendous nappy rash on Sat night. Poor thing was screaming. Not sure if its connected to the weaning or teething? Lots of nappy off time and sudocream helping. Must find the metanium today, its somewhere in the car!

Hope you all had a fab Easter x

Igglybuff · 06/04/2010 19:02

Hey everyone!

HT that's lovely news re your cousin. My SIL is trying and has had two MC so I'm hoping she'll get pregnant soon.

broodiness I'm feeling broody too! Not sure why... Might be because one friend has just popped and the other is about to. Also I watched the last One Born Every Minute which got me going. However, like ruby the nights are still not great so I'm not in any rush

William has been eating, well playing, with food but little is going down. He wont let me feed him with the spoon - prefers to grab himself. He also takes a chomp on the finger food then throws it on the floor... The thing is, he is so hungry at the moment, I'm at a loss as to how to get more in him!

Scout19075 · 06/04/2010 20:12

Stuggling with making my own purees. I either burn the veggies, make the puree chunky or can't get it smooth enough. I'm a decent cook and baker why can't I get this right? However, he does really like the smooth fruit jars and pots and has been wolfing them down like I don't feed him, ever. I mean, seriously, almost a whole jar/pot at a meal, sometimes a full one twice a day! It is slowly having a bit of effect on his sleep -- Easter Sunday he had two blocks of 4+ hours of sleep. Other times it feels like it's had no effect, but we're all suffering from variations of the same cold so he's a bit bunged up and has a cough so I don't worry/get upset. However, we haven't had an every 1-1.5 hour night since we started food.

Baby Massage finished last week and Baby Sign starts this Friday. Will miss the last class because of our trip to the States, but have talked to the instructor already (the Massage instructor is also the Sign instructor). Looking forward to it.

Things that make Sebby laugh -- getting changed (that's changing a nappy or getting naked, but not putting clothes back on), raspberries on any part of his body, singing silly songs in silly voices like "Who let my Sebby in? Who, who, who?" (tune of "Who Let the Dogs Out"), and DH barking at him like a dog (don't ask! None of us can figure it out, not even DH!).

Thirty days until we leave for the States -- but who's counting?! Actually, I get to vote in my first UK election before flying off since the PM asked for an election the day our flight is booked for. How very exciting! (I take my priviledge of voting very seriously and have never missed a US election, even the midterm elections though I'm no longer eligible to vote in the midterms.)

princessmel · 06/04/2010 21:24

Scout, how are you burning the veg!!?? lol
Peel it, chop it, pop it in a pan with water and cook it till soft. Then blitz it with enough water to make it smooth enough

Igglybuff · 06/04/2010 21:31

Scout I do my veg in the microwave for William. Bit of water and 1-2 mins in a bowl, covered (time depends on the veg).

Scout19075 · 06/04/2010 21:42

princessmel I wondered that, too! I was at the in-laws and I microwaved carrots with water to steam them (didn't have my steamer since I wasn't in my own kitchen) and when I took them out they were black and smelling.

Did manage to bake sweet potatoes and baking potatoes today and blitz them. They're now in cupcake trays in the freezer....

Will do more fruit/veg tomorrow -- for now, taking advantage of DH having a very late night and am going to bed early.

Scout19075 · 06/04/2010 21:53

Just finished my first Root Beer in ages. Mmmm, yummy. Thank you, DH, for the case of Mug instead of a chocolate egg for Easter!

fidelma · 06/04/2010 22:01

Iggly try giving him his own spoon and let him have a go at doing it himself while using another spoon to feed him.Let me know how you get on.

Scout LOL at your baby food making because your cakes sound wonderful

Feeling tired. DD2 was up throwing up during the night.I can just manage all of Connors wakenings (3or 4)but don't give me any more.I have felt a bit like a zombie today.

BellaCullen · 06/04/2010 22:16

Hope you all had a good easter. We did easter egg hunt inside as weather too cold and wet.Kids still enjoyed it.

Went out sun night with my friends for a few drinks(well lemonade for me and wine for them)sadly had to leave after 2 hours as N was hysterical for milk,he also woke up 5 times while I was gone.
Am really down at moment about constant feeding and night waking.Want to be able to go out by myself for more than 2 hours.Went swimming with DS1 and DD and then for coffee with my friend and her kids but again had to go home after 2 hours for feeding N.Just wish he would eat more food and have less milk.
Considering whether to give up bf just so fed up at moment.DS1 and DD were eating solids for 2 months by this age and had 3 proper meals so less milk and more freedom.

He is enjoying yoghurts and likes carrots.Need to get meals more structured for him tried some pasta bake when we had dinner but he was too tired by then so will try it for his lunch tomorrow.
Sorry am being so miserable just need some sleep.Better go to bed god knows how often he`ll be up tonight.
xx
