Poison DH & I were just saying tonight how bad this winter has been for bugs. We were thinking it was moving here, or our diet has been a bit crappy lately. It can't just be because of how cold it is surely, otherwise people in Canada would be sick all winter every year.

EffiePerine · 08/03/2010 07:13

Poison: it has been a long winter and I was Reading this morning (in the metro so it must be true) that vit d is essential for a strong immune system. We've had a few years of early springs. Yesterday was the first time we managed to spend any time in the garden and I feel a lot better for it. Got DS2 a waterproof all in one and he crawled about playing football with DS1 and getting muddy. Sorry to hear DD isn't well.

Lady: best of luck for the course. Sure you will wow
them.

Rubena · 08/03/2010 08:07

Poison nice to 'see' so much of you. Sorry about the vomming and nott being able to see your dad yet.
We haven't had any vomiting illness (touch wood) here but that is probably because ds not at nursery and I have been so down about this crappy winter weather that if I go anywhere it involves transfer from inside to car, to inside again

Veggie - that trip home sounds nightmareish. Get up em with a pissy letter - it'll make you feel better if nothing else

Spot, I missed a chapter I think, but why is Brighton not working out?

Kayzr · 08/03/2010 08:19

Morning,

Not read through as I have been far too busy, I hope that everyone is well.

DS1 is off on holiday with MIL today for a week. I am going to miss him so much. It will be so quiet!!!

Veggiemummy · 08/03/2010 08:21

Just popping on to say thinking of you today Lady hope your feeling ok for the course.

Veggiemummy · 08/03/2010 08:27

Gosh I should really have refreshed before sending that post, cross posted with you all. Morning ladies.

Aubergines · 08/03/2010 09:16

Hello Ladies,

Just coming on to quickly wish LadyT lick with today's course. I hope your aches and pains have faded, that crash sounded v scarey.

Poison, so sorry you didn't get to see your dad. I totally agree about this winter being a bug extravaganza. I've never known anything like it. I actually have started to feel properly depressed and demoralised with all the illness so I am SO glad to see the sun. Let's hope it does the trick (if the Metro says it will then I agree with Effie that it must be true!).

Spot, sorry you aren't loving Brighton. Maybe the weather will also help on that front.

Veggie, glad you had a lovely time in London. Sorry about the nightmare trip home (especially your D(D) getting crushed, horrible).

Well I have had a really lovely few days so am feeling a bit brighter. I was prescribed new antibiotics on Thurs and within a couple of doses I started to feel a little better so on Thurs night DH and I went to see the results of our family photo shoot. There were actually some lovely shots although My top tip is NEVER do a Venture photo shoot. Their prices are ridiculous (£220 for a 7x5 photo is a tacky black frame is their cheapest purchase, £2200 is their most expensive). Therefore if you fall in love with several shots (as we did) it is heart breaking as you can't afford to buy them. We ordered one shot of the four of us but had to wave good by to some others that I loved.

Anyway, we celebrated being even a tinsy bit photogenic with a meal at my fav Indian in the UK (naughty me as I had been off sick all day but managed three courses!). Then on Sat I went to see the matinee of Priscilla Queen of the Desert with a few friends, followed by dinner and drinks in Soho while the dads coped with the kids back home. V funny show, and nice to see my old flame Mr Donovan again! Finally on Sunday all DHs family got together for a big lunch and the DDs were in their element playing with their many cousins. DD2 even deigned to try out her new walking skills again (albeit for one step). So all in all I am much cheered and only slightly dreading a week in the office.

Veggiemummy · 08/03/2010 10:04

Aub glad to hear you feeling happier. I too think I have felt a but of depression secondary to VitD deficiency. Unfortunately I think it had made the first few months here not as enjoyable as they should be. Normally we would get out more in the winter but DS2 is just at the wrong age and developmental stage to be out in the snow in -5 degrees too often. It's all well and good taking him out in the snow but as soon as his shoes get wet his little feet freeze! You'd think for ?50 they'd be bloody waterproof!

Anyhoo I'm sure it's not long now. We'll have sun sun sun...won't we?

Syb, I was so hoping to organise to meet up with you and some of you other ladies. DS1 wanted to see Urbane's DS, but I just am quite useless of thinking of organising my time these days. I've no idea how I managed the community childrens services of North Camden and Hampstead all those years ago, I can barely sort my washing these days. But I could def do this Paris meet up, should see who is interested, should I start another thread?

DS2 has gone to sleep early for his nap, I think yesterday exhausted him. So far he has been asleep for nearly an hour and a half so I've had loads of time to tidy. However, instead I have been drinking coffee & reading...I blame Effie!

Rubena · 08/03/2010 11:05

Facebook users - please does anyone know is there any way to turn off people publishing about there bloody horoscopes and farms?? I really like to hear what my friends are up to but there are SO many of these STUPID updates!!! I admit to playing Happy Island but I never publish it in the newsfeeds if I find a freakin lost whale or upgrade a hotel etc!!!! Sorry to those who do, but I'm at my tits end!!!!
I wanted to ask on facebook but i'm sure I'll get shot down by the horoscope and farmville lovers!!!

Rubena · 08/03/2010 11:05

by "there" I meant "Their" [blush}

Rubena · 08/03/2010 11:07

I wouldn't care if at least one of my friends horoscope was a bloody LIBRA!!! But not ONE!!

SummerLightning · 08/03/2010 11:13

Rubes you can click "Hide" to the right of them, it then says "Hide X" where X is the person publishing it, or "Hide Farmville" if you click Hide Farmville it turns all the buggers off!!

JamInMyWellies · 08/03/2010 11:17

Rubena I wholeheartadly agree gets right up my nose. BTW are you a name changer am rubbish.

Spot when did you move to Brighton?

Waitinggirl DS1 loves gigglebiz please can your DH make Justin less camp.

Trace poor L do you think she may be pulling her hair out? We eloped to NY didnt tell anyone apart form a few friends. Thanks for the congrats.

Veggie what a bugger of a journey.

JamInMyWellies · 08/03/2010 11:19

Summer thankyou!

TheInvisibleHand · 08/03/2010 11:23

Hi all - been lurking, but struggling to keep up properly - lots going on for many of you.

Effie and poison - its hard juggling a mum/dad with health issues along with everything else (including vomiting bugs!) hope things are better soon

LadyT - good luck on the course, I am sure you will hit your stride once you are there.

Veggie - sorry for the rubbish journey, but glad you had a good time.

Plenty going on here. We had a weekend in Brussels (waves to Veggie from across the Eurostar tracks) to see some old friends. They had some kids around the age of the DCs and they had a fabulous time running around together. Poor old DS suffered a bit - our friends' youngest is almost 2 and spent most of the weekend looking at him very sternly and going "baby, no!". He was also very snotty and teething furiously. This morning he was doing his "I want it" routine (waving his hand furiously and going "eh, eh, eh") until I figured out it was the calpol he was after. He took the box, opened it himself and presented me with bottle and spoon. No debate about he was after then.

Otherwise, lots of thinking to do for me. There is a reasonable chance of a job that has come up which will mean a big lifestyle change for us. It would be a move in house (company, rather than law firm) and would involve a lot of travelling for me (on a virtually weekly basis). The job would be exciting and challenging, but mean much less seeing the kids for me. People I know who work in a similar actually employ 2 nannies, one for day time and one for evening. That's not really something we want for our kids, so if I go for it, it would basically be on the basis that DH becomes house-husband, possibly with a bit of part time work he does from home. Which is almost what he does already, but I guess it would be a more permanent arrangement. It may also mean moving somewhere more convenient for the job in the longer run. DH is being good about it - he understands the implications and says he is happy for me to do what I think is right, but I guess I have to get my head round seeing less of the DCs.

Rubena · 08/03/2010 11:28

Hello Invis - wow on the job opp

THANK YOU SUMMER!!!!!!!!!

Jam - I was p m k and k m p 1 etc

JamInMyWellies · 08/03/2010 11:33

Aaaaah right now am I right in thinking its oyu who posted those great mural pics on FB or am I confusing you with someone else?

Might go back into random lurking obscurity can't remember anyone

Rubena · 08/03/2010 11:42

not me Jam... will say hello to u on fb

TheInvisibleHand · 08/03/2010 11:50

Rubena - its far from a job offer, but I know people there well and they suggested it, but no promises that it is even possible yet, they just wanted to know if I would be up for it.

Jam - had meant to say lovely to see you on here. I am another one who has lurked over your gorgeous facebook photos - many congratulations. One of the best weddings I ever went to was in NYC - you must have had a fabulous time!

Rubena · 08/03/2010 12:38

I have taught ds to fake sneeze! it's hilarious!

JollyBear · 08/03/2010 13:52

Hello everyone,

I tried to post on Friday but MN crashed. I;ll cut and paste that now but it may be rather out of date.

Oh beans, I'm like you with confrontation. I get myself geared up and then collapse into tears.

zoe Your poo story made me laugh a lot! The highlight of my spinal was DH being brought in wearing his surgical garb, looking a bit squeamish and standing as far away as he could. The nurse said, 'go and hold her hand then', to which DH replied 'oh no thanks, I'm fine over here'. 'What do you think you are here for, go and hold her hand'. Poor DH scampered over and tried not to look at the big needle .

Hello kiwi, oooh can we have some gossip from fashion week please?

beans Grrrrrrrrrrrr to Babs. The dr will not do anything. DD had a bug a while ago which meant she was sick every other day. It was odd but stopped after about a week.

PD Sorry to hear your Dad is poorly.

turnip Oh that poor girl! I hope she has let her BF in on the plan. Sounds like a fun class though.

Right now for some more up to date catching up.......

veggie Glad you had a good weekend. Poor Burnley. I did feel sorry for them being thrashed. It must have been an excellent match to watch though.

invisible Wow that sounds like a fantastic job. I make endless lists when faced with tricky decisions. If I were you I'd get out some nice coloured pens and a huge sheet of paper.

Trace Might it be an anxiety thing?
My friend used to pull at her eyebrows and left them almost bare. Ringing NHS direct is a good suggestion.

Good luck ladyT! You'll be fantastic I'm sure.

It is lovely and sunny here for a change. I feel quite perky which is amazing as DD was awake from 11-2. I thought we'd cracked the waking up but last night was on another level. The trouble is during the day she had an episode of screaming, hysterical crying that lasted about 20 minutes and nothing we did could calm her down. So when she woke in the night I was worried that she was in pain or something. I cannot imagine what it can be, she had no temp, I gave her calpol in case it was teeth but it didn't help at all, could the very back teeth are coming through? I thought they were much older when they got those. Anyone with bigger kids know?

Beans33 · 08/03/2010 14:18

Hi JB - DD is getting her back molars and it's been quite a rocky road!

Sorry, am lurking and keeping head down a bit as am feeling all preggers hormonal. House is on market and having viewings, stressing about Mr and Mrs Babs as DD now has her eczema on her face back again - and spread to her back. They're going to have kittens!!! Also thinking about new house to move into, so it's all getting a bit much at moment!!!

Anyway, am keeping up to date here and there.

Big love and sorry not to do personals

xx

Rubena · 08/03/2010 14:39

Aww Beans, I'm feeling the same except I have been vocal but I think I should lay low too as I tend to rant too much
Sorry to hear about dd. I'd help you out if I was closer but we moved from SW L last year

JumpJockey · 08/03/2010 15:15

Anyone got any good vibes/prayers to send out to a family who need them? Have just been at the funeral of a chap who was a regular at my church - he went to a different mass to us so we didn't know the family well, DH and I were asked to help boost numbers in the choir. This poor chap had a heart attack out of the blue aged 37, and left two children under 5 The church was the fullest I've ever seen apart from Christmas and Easter, every seat was full and that's 500 people. He sounds like the kind of guy you'd really like to have known better - an inspirational teacher, welcoming to everyone he met, a really strong faith. And his wife and babies sat there in the front, right next to the coffin. She looked so serene about the whole thing but my goodness I just could not look at the children, they were playing in the pews and obviously just had no idea what was going on really. And it made me think just how awful the situation must have been for my dad - he was a similar age to this lady when my mum died, and there was me 5 and my brother 7. So any prayers for Amanda and her children would be really appreciated.

Will come back later to catch up, am not quite in the right mood at the moment I'm afraid.

poisondwarf · 08/03/2010 16:01

Oh jj that's just terrible.

Invis v impressed at DS and the Calpol. Could have a glittering career as a GP ahead of him.

rube fake sneezing sounds so cute.

Aube good to hear you enjoyed the weekend. Sounds like you deserved it.

Am definitely feeling sunshine-deficient but have booked to go to Lanzarote at the end of the month to stock up. Hooray!

Hmm, Invis mentioning Brussels has given me a thought Veggie. Have recently discovered a long lost friend on fb and she lives there. If nobody is biting our hands off for Paris, we could maybe meet there at some point instead. Paris it ain't but they have chips! And beer! And waffles! My friend is coming over here in May though so it would probably be a bit later on in the year.
