wook sorry, meant to respond to your interview I had a similar thing when I went for one last month so you are definitely not alone. It is so hard to try and find brain cells to hold s conversation, let alone discuss what you've done in your career and how you'd aproach various situations. Fingers crossed for you.

TOK good luck with potty training. DS1 was 2 months before his 3rd birthday which made it much easier. Lots of talk before about doing it on the first day of holidays (so as to get wet patches on the caravan floor and not mine!!) and a trip for him to choose his big boy pants. On the day I put him on the potty about every half hour and we still had lots of accidents. Did the same the following day and only about 3 accidents, then none the next day. By about day 3 or 4 I started to just ask if he wanted a wee rather than take him every time iyswim. It's when they're playing/watching tv etc that you need to remember to prompt as they get absorbed in what they're doing.
I could make out that I waited as I thought it would be easier ... but acutally it's because I'm lazy!!!

VenusInfers · 04/03/2010 09:45

lemontop at the detailed access map for the tube! I was looking at a simplified version when i made my suggestion - I had no idea the tube was quite so difficult to get around. The only really 'good' vaguely central station is Kings Cross, and I don't think we'd want to meet there...

scarlotti Every 2hrs? Really? Lord, it's going to be like having a newborn all over again. Good thing I've got a comfy sofa.... Hurrah for the good night last night BTW. Very nice that Ioan took pity on you, but possibly too soon to think it's all over [miserable prophet of doom emoticon]. Suspect my mood not helped by glancing over the 'bad sleepers 6m+ thread' a few minutes ago. For your own sanity I suggest you avoid it. Please let us not be on it in a couple of months time...

TOK Baby massage rocks! Hope that you really enjoy it. I found James took to it pretty well straight away, but the more we do it the more relaxed he becomes. At first he hated his arms being massaged but usually doesn't mind now. It's a nice part of the prep for bed ritual.

Wook sympathy over your verbal fluffing. I can well imagine the mortification as your mouth races well ahead of your mental maths. Sure I read somewhere that, in interviews, last impressions count just as much as first ones, so as long as you exited gracefully...

scarlotti · 04/03/2010 09:59

Venus I've spotted that thread a few times but haven't dared venture in! DS1 was 8 months though before I got a regular full night's sleep so I'm prepared for a potential repeat of that, sigh.
In some ways your post has cheered me up though as I was wondering if I'd started to think about weaning too soon, but if last night is more of a one off then I'm happy with my decision again.
Flaky and indecisive ... who me? Noooo!

Am liking the sound of baby massage that you're all doing - do you do classes or just at home?

VenusInfers · 04/03/2010 10:09

scarlotti I did a 6wk class at the local children's centre. 6wks was far too long thought, could have covered it all in half the time. As much an excuse to meet other mums as anything. oh, baby squeeling have to go..

TOK · 04/03/2010 10:14

My taster session is at our local children's centre too scarlotti, there is bound to be one close to you. The tiny tots groups does baby massage as well but I haven't been to that yet as it would involve being up, dressed and ready to go out the door before 9 (am currently still sitting in pjs )

BeckyBendyLegs · 04/03/2010 10:17

We're going to baby massage today! First lesson of four. I have no idea what it will be like.

weston · 04/03/2010 10:19

laugs have been really lucky with the potty training, its seems to have just happened instantly!! i def think the older the better, she is 3 today, hurrah! just got some nice pants showed her the potty and whenever she needed to go she just went on it! we have had a few misc wees but she seems to know what is going on and had first day at nursery yes and no accidents and it was on a toilet; she has a very sweet tooth so i just bribed with a bowl of sweets - chocolate for every wee or poo on potty..she wouldnt wee enough..12 wees first day...

going to cinema for first time later! alvin and the chipmunks..looking fwd to the pic n mix!

yes pavlov my skin also is soo dry, hands all cracked etc

laugs breastfeed DD2 but she never put on that much weight, few ozs, had week where was sick and she was down to 2nd centile, doctor said to give formula so i am now in process of moving from breast to bottle, onto 3 a day, but i think she just had a small tummy as she doesn't take more than 4 ozs at a time, weighed her yes and she is still only 10 12 (7 10) born, 15 weeks, following 2nd centile but she is happy as larry so decided not going to worry about it, think those growth charts should prob be thrown away, they aren't used in ireland, weigh her once a month and ignore the 100 comments from people every day telling me how small she is and asking how premature she was....as long as your DD is happy then i think they are fine!

BeckyBendyLegs · 04/03/2010 10:22

Hey Weston perhaps we should meet up at some point as the 'Shropshire Nov 09' group of two! Is anyone else from the Midlands??? I feel a bit left out of these meets you are all planning

Sooo looking forward to glass blowing on Saturday but soooo scard about leaving my lovely family behind. I will cry all the way down to Bath I think.

lemontop · 04/03/2010 10:22

venus I found the map on the tfl site. There's even a map which shows which tube stations have toilets. I so wish I'd had a copy of that when I was pregnant!

Just done a wash and it's finished and all the clothes are still soaking and there's soap in the water. uh oh!

weston · 04/03/2010 10:25

i think laugs as long as they are putting on, even if slow and not loosing its fine, check out the threads on slow weight gain babies in the feeding section, we are not alone!

good luck TOK on potty training

scarlotti · 04/03/2010 10:48

DD followed the 2nd centile, DS1 the 25th and DS2 the 75th, so no rhyme or reason to the line number. As long as they're happy and gaining I wouldn't worry.

weston · 04/03/2010 10:53

good idea becky, now the sun has come out we could go to attingham or one of the nice parks, there must be some other midlanders around!!

weston · 04/03/2010 10:54

where you doing the baby massage becky?

BeckyBendyLegs · 04/03/2010 11:10

Attingham would be great, just down the road from me! Let's plan to do that when the weather is a bit warmer, perhaps over the Easter hols so we can bring the older ones?

Children's Centre Services are running the class: at Sunflower House where they are based (near Tescos in Shrewsbury). It is a four-week course.

VenusInfers · 04/03/2010 13:13

Just got back from trip to town and clinic to weigh James. He's now 8kg or 17lb 10oz at 15.5 weeks! Exactly the same weight as an average 6 month old. Yoikes. Safe to say he is 'thriving', so def going to hold off trying to wean for another month and just hope the nights sort themselves out in the meantime. If I'll feel the same at 3am tonight is a different matter.

raggie · 04/03/2010 14:00

Wow! General Jimster is on a mission!

Just had Roo weighed too and she's 12lb12oz or 5.81 at 13 weeks. Cruising smoothly on the 70th (!) centile...

Ninjacat · 04/03/2010 14:26

Venus you have me worried now as Alfie is also 8kilos and is three months today

HAPPY 3 MONTH BIRTHDAY JAMES-LAUGS

weston · 04/03/2010 15:11

easter sounds good, weston park open then also, great playground, in ireland for easter we for christening but back the rest just realised nursery and schools shut for two weeks! will need alot of easter eggs to survive..

right off to c alvin...

VenusInfers · 04/03/2010 15:14

ninja I bow down to your superior infant. A kingly weight indeed!

Ninjacat · 04/03/2010 15:27

Well he certainly rules this house.

Laugs · 04/03/2010 16:51

And to you Ninja-Alfie!

Happy Birthday Weston's DD - I hope you enjoyed Alvin.

Those who work freelance, I am in a quandary!! A really good opportunity has come up - a job that I would LOVE to do and would really enjoy and would be great for my CV blah blah blah... it has to be completed by end of May though, starting now-ish. Looking at it, I could probably work in the evenings with a few days of childcare.

But, my maternity leave lasts until mid-August. I don't want to go back to work yet and put James into nursery, especially because I am earning more from MA than I did in several months last year. I don't suppose there is anything like 'keeping in touch days' for freelancers? (There bloody well should be, we're the ones who need to keep in touch!) Or the possibility of a hiatus in maternity leave? And if I did do it, would I have to stop my MA from the day I started working or the day I invoiced at the end of the project?

Not that I would probably get it anyway...

hobnob57 · 04/03/2010 17:22

I'm so of these meet ups!

weston where are you going in Ireland at Easter? We'll be in Co. Down/Antrim for a week and I can't wait. Got the ferry for £1 courtesy of tesco vouchers!

Isla loved her 3 week baby massage course. When we did arms and torsos she had her first giggle fit which had me in stitches too. It was when I straightened out her arms and then crossed them over her chest - hilarious apparently . Best laugh I've had in a long time.

So sorry to hear talk of work looming on the horizon for some. I'm loving my ML way too much just now. I just wish I wasn't the main breadwinner with a stupidly horrendous mortgage

sirboob thinking of you these days and wishing lots of sunny, uplifting vibes your way. Not to mention sleep Bryn's way. And bbl are you sleeping any better these days?

Laugs · 04/03/2010 17:33

hobnob my mum's from Co. Down!
James likes massage too. I just do it at home. I stroke his legs and sing my Strokey-Strokey song, to the tune of Hokey-Cokey. It is a hit! "you do the strokey-strokey stroke them up and down, that's what it's all about"

weston · 04/03/2010 19:53

thanks laugs cinema was great, no one else was there so was a private viewing which was a good job with a 3 month and a 3 year old! am paranoid that she will wee or poo in public but so far she seems to have it under control! think party at playbarn sat will be abit of a test..

hobnob i am from dublin and folks still live there so we go back every easter for mass family gathering

skorpion · 04/03/2010 19:55

Hello All!!!

Sorry I've been away without a word. My sister came here for a week and we had a brilliant time playing with Lucy and her little boy. The week's gone stupendously fast but so has the thread - it'll take ages to catch up! Just noticed there's talk about London meet-up, I hope to be able to make it, too. I'll read up on the details.

Anyway, I hope you're all well, babies are thriving and happy.

Off to read. xx
