Happy 2010 everyone! Cast your mind back to this time last year... [soppy]

Too much wine - excuse for thread title should it be shite rubbish when I read it tomorrow. Thought it was time to wave goodbye to the festive one, although perhaps we should have waited for epiphany?

Oh wow Pat. Wow.

The infant will not sleep. Well, she will and has swapped between me and dh since 7pm. But he moved and so she is up again wolloping the laptop with it's charger

VeryHungryLennipillar · 07/01/2010 23:30

Well, I found my posts from today last year and it isn't pretty! I'm not sure I want to post them again as now I properly know you all it feels a bit weird. here goes nothing though:

By LenniEd Wed 07-Jan-09 10:31:38
Good luck Spink - hope baby Spinklet is here already

Think we are on the go here too. DH just taking DD to PIL now. Had contractions since 11pm last night, getting more painful and longer now. Hoping to hold out until my TENS machine arrives in the post and then go in. Early labour feels soooo different with your waters intact. Much less painful. Here'e hoping that after 12hours, 2 baths and a fair few paracetomol this can't be the first false alarm of this thread

By LenniEd Wed 07-Jan-09 12:46:56
We're going in soon - contractions 3.5 mins apart now and lasting about 50 seconds. Getting to point where can't manage the pain very easily. Sent DH out to look for postie and hence TENS machine before we go!

By LenniEd Wed 07-Jan-09 12:53:45
I'm trying Tree! Wish they'd get longer instead of closer together though, don't want same thing happening as last time. God I'm having to type bloody quick!

12 minutes til Post officially late! Special Delivery meant to be here before 1pm. Bloody hell! Ow, ow, ow... going now. Wish me luck

By LenniEd Wed 07-Jan-09 16:28:56
Hi all, just a quick one. In labour!! Back home for now... just as got to hosp the shoulder dystocia alarms went off in unit and lots of screaming and running about and my labour just completely ground to a halt. Cried a lot. They did exam anyway and was 2-3cm despite all the trauma so things definitely happening but decided to come home to get the adrenaline out of my system and some lovely hormones going again. Cx now very painful again so think will go back in soon once had a snack. Feel a lot calmer again. And DH managed to find postie and got TENS on the go.

Had 3 cx in time taken to type that and am having to moan a lot now so hopefully next time I'm on will have a baby!

CONGRATULATIONS Spink

By LenniEd Thu 08-Jan-09 13:20:04
Oh go on then, since you asked

Dylan born last night at 10.34pm. 4hours 'established' labour apparently. HA BLINKIN HA! TBH those 4hours plus the 2nd car journey to hospital were the only hard bits. Actually was incredible experience, will tell all soon. Waterbirth, G&A, fantastic midwife and DH put in a sterling performance too.

Tis amazing what the body can do. I pushed once, everything else just happened by itself really. That whole 'breathing the baby out' thing really can be done.

On boob now, going ok ish. Gets on fine but then fusses round a bit and knocks latch out a bit which is a bit frustrating. After pains bloody murder when he feeds.

Going to have a nap now, will catch up soon. Hope everyone well

treedelivery · 07/01/2010 23:34

I had forgotten the TENS business.

Ohhhh I want to go back and do Jan 09 again.

VeryHungryLennipillar · 07/01/2010 23:35

Made me go all weepy. For anyone inclined to read it this is the birth story - now that really has made me weep. I wish I could transport myself back to those few hours after he was born, and then come straight back to now again, no way I want the sore nipples, constant feeding etc. in exchange for my gorgeous little toddler.

By LenniEd Fri 09-Jan-09 15:24:33
Hi all, have tried to catch up. Is a lost cause I'm afraid. FLF - you will be next, that is how it was going to happen remember?

I have one of those newborns that doesn't do the sleeping for a few days thing but instead feeds constantly, falls asleep on boob, startles occasionally and carries on where he left off. Tis lovely really, can't move anywhere and should have a good supply when milk comes in, but would be nice to get some sleep in. Does mean plenty of MN time though so thought I'd write down the birth story whilst have the chance as no doubt this phase won't last. Apologies for it being very long winded. Want to remember myself. If you can't be bothered just read the last paragrpah

SO.... it all started Tuesday night with period type pains coming and going from about 11pm. Didn't dare believe this was it since had so many false alarms. Went to bed and slept on and off until about 4am. Was starting to struggle with sleeping through the pains then and kept getting up to go to the toilet and pace around a bit. By 8am I decided perhaps things were about to kick off and started trying to get things together for DD to take her to PIL. At 9.30am we decided to call the hospital and ship DD off to PIL but couldn't get hold of them. Was starting to panic a bit that they'd gone out but MIL turned up here at about 10ish so DH took DD down to them and came back. Rang delivery at about 11am and they told me to stay put for a couple of hours if I could. Decided to sod chance of getting piles and made myself poo - thought it might speed things up, seemed to help . By 12.30 the contractions were every 3-4mins and I was having a panic about whether the TENS would arrive in the post so sent DH out to look for the postie (Can imagine DH to postie conversation - DH told him 'I need my post my wife is in labour and there is something for the pain in there' postie said 'If it's valium or morphine you aren't having it' ) Went in to unit at about 1.30pm and arrived there at about 2.15pm. Got there and got changed. Midiwfe about to start checks when shoulder dystocia alarms went off and I went into hormonal wreck mode and cried a lot and shook and eventually went home, was only 2-3cm.

Got home and pains came straight back on strongly. Was knelt on floor next to sofa with my head buried in a pillow on the chair moaning through them whilst updating MN decided I was going back in and wasn't calling them first, I was just going. Car journey awful.

Arrived at hospital at about 6.30pm - felt some leakage as I got out of the car. DH reassured me it was my waters even though I was walking through hospital going "I'm wetting myself...help...I'm wetting myself" Got to lift up to delivery and had massive contraction in the lift and liquid everywhere. Had completely wet myself in the life, soaked through. (Who was it worrying about dignity in labour??) Checked and was 5cm, paced about moaning for about 45mins, had a shower and then got cracking on the G&A whilst knelt on the bed with head buried in pillow, DH massaging my back. Told I had to wait until 9pm for the shift change to get in the pool, lovely MW lying to me about how long I had to wait in a very effective fashion. (Kept telling me it was running and she was just getting temp right and blah de blah... excellent sales patter..) Finally got in pool at 9pm, and contractions were coming almost constantly. Felt like it would be less painful to die but finally gave in all worries about getting too high on the G&A and just concentrated on breathing steadily and blocked everything else out. Felt like I wasn't in my body anymore, and my body was writhing and jumping about with all the contractions, my legs kept flying up by my head and all I was doing was breathing and listening to the midwife's voice. At about 10pm my waters went. Was like a bomb going off in my stomach, worst pain of the whole thing. Followed swiftly by blood and poo (mine - ick!) and my whole body just felt empty except for this big hard thing moving up and down in me. Told MW I wanted an epidural and didn't want another baby, was quite happy just with one and wanted to go home . MW told me I could have an epi if I wanted but should reach down and feel first... reached down and could feel babies head and kind of floated up out of the daze into reality for a second and felt really in control again. She told me to push and I pushed once and the baby came right down, and then went straight back up. I floated back up with it and told her what had happened and she told me it was all ok, that was nature's way. All I had to do was breathe. So I breathed and the head was born, and then the shoulders twisted round and were born too and she lifted Dylan up onto my tummy and he just nuzzled and looked at me. Second stage lasted 9 minutes. Total labour 4 hours. They got me onto a chair to deliver placenta and had to have one stitch. Then he fed a bit. DH and I stayed on delivery in a nice double bed with DS tucked up next to us. Bliss. However, not a chance of ever doing it again.

treedelivery · 07/01/2010 23:39
VeryHungryLennipillar · 07/01/2010 23:43

You and me both Tree. Much as I loved my two as newborns, I don't think I'd do it again, save for the first hours and those warm fuzzy snuggles. DS was a little snuffly vole, he snuggled into me and nuzzled all the time - couldn't put him down though, and he fed almost constantly for months weeks.

treedelivery · 07/01/2010 23:46

Yes. Could pass on the 1 week to ...er...well....won't dwell on that

But for the anticipation and the 'when' and the 'is it now' and the 'yes it is' and the actual labour, I'd love to. It's so special, yyou are the center of the universe for a small time. Lovely.

That's a lovely lovely tale Lenni.

hackneyzoo · 08/01/2010 10:17

Ahh, lovely birth story Lenni, I remeber you waiting for your tens machine. Pat, your birth sounds pretty amazing too.

DS not sleeping well the last two nights after a month or so of sleeping through. He seems really uncomfortable and is very full of cold, so think I will spend my bonus day off just cuddling him! Actually am getting my arse into gear for his birthday, didn't win any of the toys I was bidding for on ebay, so have just ordered this and we're going to pop to ikea and pick up one of those little wooden train sets and that should do it.

Have just discovered the clothkits new website. Tree and Moose I saw these and thought of you and your VWs. I heart these and this but way too pricey for my purse at the moment.

Moose, you've inspired me to run the vacum round my flea pit of a house, if my boy will let me put him down. Off to kick osme hospital ass too, they still haven't got back to us and we have chased them up about three times. I want them to acknowledge that he needs some nutritional help as he can't swallow solids and that he is in discomfort sometimes and have had it with waiting now.

Morning to Stripey, 120, Tink, Dog, Gumps and all the gang, have caught up but failed to retain much info,,,Dog I was chuckling knowingly at your facebook update when you said you were exhausted and your friend said 'You're not pregnant are you?' He he, its lovely knowing you are up the duff when no one else around you does, most exciting secret

treedelivery · 08/01/2010 10:25

Such exciting clothes hackney!
I was wondering where we were with the hospital stuuf HKZ. Get ass kickin!

House has reached new depths of squat like status. Really depressing. ANd there are just piles of cloth everywhere. Clothes!? All these clothes! who's are they?

AM somewhat tempted to sling the lot in the bin. If I don't even know what they are I can't possibly like them or need them.

That truck is a bargain HKZ. No such store here [of course, really fed up with this depressing run down town] but I didn't know they did online! £5 for delivery, but still.....

I daren't talk to dog on FB incase I out her in some stupid gaff of mine

Hope ds enjoys a day of mummy time and feels better soon HKZ.

Hi Tink

What are we all doing about swine flu vaccine? Our letter came yesterday.....

I'm already a bit freaked over mmr, given H's really quite nasty dairy thing. Leaky gut and all that.

Arse.

Any birthdays? I am starting a list, I really don't want to miss any. Please copy, paste and add [stern eyes emoticon]

hello all, feeling a bit snowed in here, we have about - oh, half an inch of snow i suppose it is 47 years since the weather was like this here, but still, it's ridiculous...

pat and lenni reading birth stories. what i chiefly remember of mine is telling the midwife that i did not, in fact, want to feel her head, but i think that was at the point when i was really flagging... (or it could be that childbirth makes me a little grumpy ). and my first view of her, which was of her bottom she is finally having a nap at the moment - we seem to be have a seriously wonder week...

hope you hear from the hospital in short order, hkz

dog, do you know how far into your pregnancy you are? (i mean, how long do we have to be careful for on fb ?)

glad to hear birthdays went well i think dp is going to try to get to the early learning centre on her way back from work today, as otherwise there'll be no presents for c - flippin' weather. it's still like an ice rink outside and the council seems to have run out of grit or whatever it is they put on the roads...

stripeywoollenhat · 08/01/2010 12:46

also, tree, i don't know whether this is helpful or not, but c had the vaccination on 15 dec, she was exceedingly tired the next day and the day after that came down with a hideous cold, but i think that was a coincidence: dp and i both caught the cold too soon after and it is only just clearing up now. when we were talking about it, we took into consideration that she hasn't had any sort of adverse reactions to any of her other vaccinations (just on the question of the various components in vaccinations apart from the virus part of them) and even though we've had no sign, the outside possibility of her inheritng her dad's asthma.

moosemama · 08/01/2010 14:15

Hi

Lenni, lovely to read your story again. Am all nostalgic now.

HKZ love the clothkits stuff and that truck is gorgeous. Give the hospital hell and if they don't sort it out pronto tell 'em they'll have the wrath of Mumsnet to deal with - that'll put the wind up them - we are a force to be reckoned with apparently.

Hi Tink, good to hear someone who is still enjoying playing in the snow.

No danger of me outing you Dog, your secret is safe with me.

Tree, I get seriously hacked off with all the clothes in this house, there's always as much waiting around in piles to be put away as there is waiting to be washed. Nightmare.

Stripey, we have been in wonder week territory this week as well. I feel bad, because I have to get the house ready for her parties and its a BIG job so I can't just sit and cuddle her all the time. I did make a decision to sit and play with with her for a couple of hours straight this morning and she seems a bit happier for it. She decided she was happy to play with all the empty delivery boxes after a couple of hours of stories, cuddles, pat-a-cake etc etc.

Tree, I have been fretting over vaccinations as well. My HV listened to my concerns especially due to ds1's problems, then just said she understood but I really should get them done. Not keen on the swine flu vaccine though, have heard some nasty stories about how it has adversely affected some people - I know they are in the minority, but it still worries me. My sister's, friend's uncle came down with some sort of nasty immune thing (a bit like Guillan Barre apparently) after his, has been totally debilitated and has been told he is likely to be ill for years rather than months and he had always had the seasonal vaccine prior to this year. Feel a bit damned if you do, damned if you don't about it to be honest.

Sorry if I've missed anyone, lunch break over, back to the housework while dd is asleep.

H just slept from 10 till 2. On my bely, but still........

moosemama · 08/01/2010 14:35

Sleep is sleep no matter where it is. Dd is currently snoring in her swing and I'm too scared to do any housework in case I wake her up.

Had a terrible night last night, dd kept waking up screaming (think it was her teeth) ds2 woke up screaming because of a bad dream, then just as we fell asleep ds1 woke up crying because his neck had spasmed and he couldn't move his head (he was really anxious yesterday after being told off at school by the only male teacher, who he is really scared of ).

VeryHungryLennipillar · 08/01/2010 14:57

We've had hellish sleep for a few weeks now but last night DS slept through, I think the sleep was definately development linked as he's done loads of amazing stuff lately and my nephew who is a day younger than DS has been exactly the same with sleep. It started a week or so before Christmas so fitted in with Moose's wonderweeks stuff as he is (obviously) 52 weeks now so it went on from about 48/9 weeks to whenever it finally ends - age 18??

I'm looking forward to all the other birth stories again now - you know you'll have to post them since I've suffered the indignity

Dog - I am living vicariously through you, must be so exciting.

Tree - I'm not sure what to do about swine flu. Our vacs are a week tomorrow, I have booked appointments and said I want to talk it through with them before deciding. Am really not sure what to do - DH has had his though and was fine.

stripeywoollenhat · 08/01/2010 15:09

moose, c is currently pulling all the books onto the floor - beats eating the catfood, i suppose she has bee nrefusing to nap, screams as though she were being killed when put in her cot, no matter how much eyerubbing is going on... she is also unusually - i don't want to say clingy, she isn't, but happy to be on my lap - usually she's more interested in chasing the cats/trying to eat whatever bits of crud she can detect (sort of like a small, slow, vacuum cleaner)/trying to chew all of the outdoor shoes... i could go on but i'm sure it's happening in all of your houses as well...

i hope you are having tea while dd naps

treedelivery · 08/01/2010 16:25

H slep 10 - 2, had a bit of humous, did a poo, pushed her sister on the wheely bug and is now oing back to sleep.
Not an action packed day really.

Not books here stripey, tea towels. Haning on the oven door. It seems to really annoy her.

treedelivery · 08/01/2010 16:27

lenni can you please do the list?
