Happy 2010 everyone! Cast your mind back to this time last year... [soppy]

Too much wine - excuse for thread title should it be shite rubbish when I read it tomorrow. Thought it was time to wave goodbye to the festive one, although perhaps we should have waited for epiphany?

Lenni-
Pack of sausages (get herby type ones and you don't need to add much herbage).
One red onion
2 carrots
Pack button mushrooms
1 red pepper deseeded
Veg stock (approx 1/2 pint)
1 can tomatoes
Tomato ketchup/puree
2 tsps Dijon mustard
Splash of Balsamic (or worcestershire sauce)
Sprikle of Paprika
Black pepper

I sometimes chop and cook the veg and sausgage for about 3 mins, chuck in a bit of flour and then when you put it together it only needs 1 hour at 180 in the oven.
OR
Put all in raw, stir well and then it takes an hour and half.

Variations: Use smoky sausage and add can of mixed drained beans, or add lentils and bit more liquid, or use leeks instead onions, sometimes add chilli powder and kidney beans. Depends what I have got in!!!!.

Just shoved a lasange in the oven and am off round my friends this afternoon to sort out details for next week. E does start school in september(Eeek!!!) so not long left now.

Anyone else got any good one pot recipes?? I find them a life-saver.

Moose- How lovely to finally see all your tribe in all their glory. All the DC's (and dog) are gorgeous (nice to see another member of the baldy club with your DD!) and you are lovely too! Those cakes and treats look amazing, very talented lady

PatTheHammer · 24/01/2010 13:42

Oh, and DS got a book out of the cupboard and said 'book' today, hurrah!!! A new word at last!

missjackson · 24/01/2010 14:09

Cute! We got 'bear' finally, in the bath a couple of nights ago, reading his bath book - 'elephant splashes in the shower, bear washes in the waterfall' - bet most of you have that book too. 'We love bathtime', that's what it's called.

missjackson · 24/01/2010 14:14

pat great recipe, I do similar. Good with jacket potatoes.

Party just finished. Need dark bo to go sit in and rock. Back soon. x

120 · 24/01/2010 19:34

party finished... nearly bed time... for all of us!

moosemama · 24/01/2010 19:52

Tree, get back here immediately and look at the pics of my babies!! AND Party updates and photos required from both you and 120 asap!

Just got back from ds2's best friends birthday party and am in BIG trouble with DH. He really didn't want them to go as it was at a plague pit Wacky Warehouse in a really rough area over half an hour's drive away (apparently the only place that had a party slot availabe). He really hates most of the soft play places ever since ds1 caught impetigo at one of his friend's parties at Funky Monkeys a few years ago. Anyway, I insisted we went, as the parents had been kind enough to invite ds1 to the actual party as well and it was ds2's best friend in the whole world.

Came home, bathed the boys, nit combed their hair (as we do every bathtime ever since the only time they have ever had nits when I was pregnant with dd) only to discover several of the biggest lice I have ever seen in my life (not that I've seen all that many). The boys were only combed yesterday, so its quite clear that the 'orrible critters had climbed on board at the party. Needless to say, it is all my fault and dh is very cross indeed. Fortunately, both boys were bathed and thoroughly conditioner/combed through with three different types of nit comb within an hour of getting home. We are as sure as we can be that we got them all, but will now have to treat in 7 days time just in case. The main problem is that its highly likely that most of the other children from the party, of which they were half ds1's class and half ds2's class, will also have picked them up and their parent's probably won't even know, so our boys will most likely get reinfected by their classmates. Aaargh its horrible, we are so careful and vigilant, but unless everyone else is the same they will keep getting passed around the children. I hate, hate, hate it.

Good point about them catching them tomorrow anyway, even if they hadn't gone to the party. Thanks, I will use that one on dh.

Unfortunately, both boys were picked on by a much older boy (who seemed to be bullying a lot of the little kids when their parents' weren't looking apparently) as well, so I'm getting it in the neck for that as well. I hate the way you can't keep a close eye on your dc's as you can't see where they are the whole time.

Forgot to say, thanks to everyone for all the nice comments about my family photos.

120 · 24/01/2010 21:14

ok, have uploaded snake cake photo

120 · 24/01/2010 21:35

moose, really gorgeous pics! What beautiful babies!

books he is H

Pat, that sounds delicious. One of our family favourites is Jungle Stew

sooo knackered. off to bed. HZ, hope your party went well too.

Gumps · 24/01/2010 22:25

Happy birthday to babies I have missed. Can't believe Z is only one now Pat as he is so big! S is over 13 months now but still no words other than mama dada and nana. Backward child. He can build a tower of 4 blocks though
HKZ good to hear you are getting out to have a few drinks and off load. When does the treatment actually start?
STILL no AF here. Never happened to me before and is doing my head in. I am waiting until at least Wednesday to retest as have already spent £20 on tests. Haven't tested since Tuesday though.
Have spent evening watching cbb. MissJ the cake on the head and then the others in the diary roon was comedy gold.
Will look at pics tomorrow Moose. Tree good luck with the sedative. I agree it must feel horrid to have to do it but think of it as a learning tool for her to 'get' how to go to sleep.

moosemama · 24/01/2010 22:39

There you have it Gumps. Dd never shuts up, but she can't build towers with her bricks (she prefers to throw them at her brothers ).

Funny moment at the party today when one of the other mums said to dd who was yodelling rather loudly, 'Are you singing us all a song?" dd stopped singing, turned to look her straight in the eye and said "Yeah!" then went back to her song . Cue lots of highly amused posh Mummies who's dc's would never utter the word 'yeah', as they have of course been taught to talk properly!

treedelivery · 25/01/2010 00:34

Moose! You look nothing like how I imagined you.
Your kids are like something out of a healthy family magazine, they look so funky, bright, alive and well. They have these huge blue eyes. I am totally in love with your boys and I want them. I have probably said how much I really wanted a boy family - but delighted with the gals obviously. Still though.......give me your boys? Whaydyasay?

Whole party looks great - rainbow stuff really good. The cake a triumph. Love it all. Want the camper.

120 - fab idea for the snake cake!! Beautiful children also, lovely clear eyes.

Sleep - we don't speak of it.

GUmps - AF nightmare! it must be driving you insane!
Have scan read, but Moose I think you should try and make the ball thing happen. There must be a way. On enight, that's all. There must be. COuld you all go in camper and have your mum stay with them, and you and hubby zoom off into hotel? Then back in and out for settling baby?
Or someother madcap scheme?

Haven't read thread in detail, but Jude's fairy cakes looked super cute HKZ. How you all getting on?

moosemama · 25/01/2010 10:48

Tree! What were you doing up at that time of night?

What did you imagine I looked like then? Hope I haven't disappointed you.

lol at my dc's being alive, bright and well. Looks can certainly be deceiving - we all know how often my family is ill.

You can have my boys any time you like, just say the word and I can have them parcelled up up and posted first class in no time! (You'll want to give em back within a couple of hours, I guarantee it! )

Wouldn't want to mislead you though, ds1 has green eyes really, the other two have blue. (Noticed you have a bit on an eye thing going on in your last post.)

The do is a definite no-goer, I'm afraid, Mum is going through one of her awkward phases at the moment and seems to have gorn off to find herself - again. She's booked herself in on lots of new-age training courses etc, we've seen it all before. She did visit once last week, but kept muttering to dh about how she feels she doesn't have a place in my family/home anymore (she didn't say anything to me). I don't have a clue what she's going on about, she stopped coming round as often when dd started screaming at her (the exact opposite of what we needed her to do) and then stopped coming completely when we were both ill over Christmas and my sister left her partner and moved back in with her. Now my sister has moving into her new place, she's suddenly realised we've barely seen her for months and somehow its my fault, apparently. Rather pathetically, I think her biggest problem is that she's jealous of dd and resents her crying whenever she comes round. To be honest though, she's made the situation much worse by coming in with an attitude and then looking at dd and saying "oh, shut-up" in a grumpy/aggressive tone. Dd is much better with everyone else and according to my sister she did the exact same thing with my nephew.

Sorry, got sidetracked into a family rant there.

120, fantastic snake cake! Tree's right, your dc's are beautiful and have really expressive eyes.

Had a paranoid moment this morning and spent an hour and a half nit-combing my own hair. Used 3 different types of nit-comb and found absolutely nothing, but am glad I checked. Have sent the boys off to school lathered in leave in coconut conditioner (the little critters hate coconut and it makes the hair too silky to grip). Will have to comb them both through as soon as they get home though to be on the safe side - god I hate all this.

Oh and got my first period since conceiving dd this morning as well. That coupled with a cold and a snotty poorly baby means I'm calling a duvet day, am already ensonced in my favourite spot on the sofa.

stripeywoollenhat · 25/01/2010 10:50

morning all

first off, moose and 120, your children are beautiful - moose, dd looks like a right mischievous little one i do hope you can work out your night in manchester - maybe using the camper van as tree suggests?

oh gumps, you must test... how late are you now?

the cakes (and rainbow shot glasses) were all really impressive - c had chocolate cake, which i'll post on my profile shortly - not as fancy as a snake or a dinosaur or anything , but yummy and made by me, dp and her dad, so having a certain symmetry, i guess...

mum's birthday on saturday was nice, whole family, more or less, came to lunch. i was doped with as many cold remedies as possible so managed to be relatively cheerful (i still have a vile cold though, am getting really sick of it now). i think mum found it all a bit depressing really, being seventy and then her birthday is also her wedding anniversary and obviously dad isn't with us anymore - still, there was cheesecake with a candle on it and very cute granddaughters, so she coped.

small, peaky girl now shouting at me, better go. back later

moosemama · 25/01/2010 11:03

Stripey, you have dd pegged. Mischievous doesn't even begin to describe how cheeky she is.

Glad your mum had a nice party. I think that generation find a lot of the 'big' celebrations difficult. I know both dh and my grandparents miss their 'missing' loved ones so much more when there's a big do. That isn't to say they don't appreciate being surrounded by their children and grandchildren though, in fact they seem to take extra delight in being around the babies in particular.

We are full of cold here as well, so you have my sympathy. I am supposed to be starting a healthy eating plan this week, but what with the cold and the arrival of AF I don't think I'm going to get very far without chocolate.

Hi books, hope you are feeling much more relaxed and comfortable this morning than you were this time last year.

missjackson · 25/01/2010 11:34

Oooh books sounds like it was a long, long labour! You must have been knackered. Just the thought of labour makes me feel all tired and hopeless... but hey, it's worth it in the end I suppose! - anyway, on that note, any news gumps?! How can you bear to wait?

Morning off as I am on lates now for the rest of the run. Took N to music which was fun but rowdy. Can't wait to get back to Wales and my Mummy friends - was strange being the new mummy with no mates! They sang N happy birthday (for friday) and I managed not to cry.

Sounds like there have been some good parties - stripey I have had a cold too, for about 10 days now, and am so fed up of it. Hope you and C feel better soon.
