Just thought I'd better create a new thread.

Raggie how about a trip to Burford?

Pav DS is fine today, you'd never know he had it done. He looked for the mark on his arm when we came home from the docs and there was nothing. He complained his arm hurt, but forgot about it when he was distracted.

Fed him on both sides at 7, with a slight pause in between and that seemed to be better for him. Think he's become majorly efficient at feeding, and gets annoyed when it doesn't flow out fast enough so starts to bat my boob! Swapping sides seems to help but not sure what to do if he's done both sides and still isn't full?

Venus we've had two nights he's gone to 5am although they were a week apart!

southernbelle77 · 19/01/2010 21:50

I am so sorry that I can't see to stay on top of this thread. I always feel bad for not Reading and remembering everything that has been written.
Whoever was talking about the sf jab - dd had hers a few weeks ago (only needed one as rules changed and only need two if on steroids for asthma or like) and her arm only ached for a short time. She got quite tired but not i'll or anything.
About weight gain in our LO's, my HV said anything from 2 - 8 lbs a week is a average and fine.
Leah is fully bottle fed now and it says she should be having 5oz six times a day. She doesn't have that
much and often doesn't finish her bottles. She also
is still being sick so got to keep an eye out for her having milk allergy like dd1. Other than that she is fine and an absolute treasure to have around! Would be lovely if she started sleeping through the night, but I can't have it all I guess!!!

southernbelle77 · 19/01/2010 21:54

Meant 2 - 8oz a week, not lbs!
Doing this on my new iPhone and still getting used to it !

ErikaMaye · 20/01/2010 04:07

Can I please publicly praise scarlotti who was absolutely wonderful while I was up at the hospital with Bryn on Monday morning. Thank you x

Seems a little better, no more throwing up bile or choking, but am still a little shaken - hence why am sat up now, making sure he's okay for the next half hour, so its been an hour after his feed. Nappies are still pretty grotty here - though noticed today the bottom teeth are starting to push through the skin, so that could easily be part of it.

Finally having his six week check tomorrow (!!!) at ten weeks, and hopefully the jabs as well, though if he's still ill they might not do it. Just crossing fingers they're not snowed off again.

Saw a friend today who is pregnant. She makes me so angry - I really want to scream at her. She's 21, but acts like she's 13. Not to share all the details but she's just being a total doormat!! Her partner is an arse - she is unemployed, he's working, and yet still expects her to pay for everything. He's decided buying a new laptop is a much worthier investment than buying things for the baby. He's drinking heavily on a daily basis. He wakes her up when he goes to work - at 3am. Oh, and he's told her she is not allowed to breastfeed, because he wants to do it, and he doesn't want to be handling bottles of breast milk, because its just "F*cking gross". She's not allowed to sleep for longer than five hours because then she's being lazy. They're living with his family, and dear God! it makes my home sound like bliss. She doesn't even know how many weeks pregnant she is, or when she's due - she had her scan the other day and has forgotten. She seems so unhappy and yet so reluctant to change things. I want to hug her and shake her all at the same time

Venus I did that the other night when my mum offered to give him a EBM bottle. Though what's more entertaining is that DP still does it occasionally when we're not there

Ninja I'd have been straight to the hospital, but then maybe I'm still in paranoia mode after hearing the nurse on the phone get panicky when Bryn was choking. Hope everything is okay.

Hope everyone is well

maman2tom · 20/01/2010 08:25

Hey all had a great day yesterday, baby was find at childminders, i was fine at home (hardly had time to miss LO as I wallpapered the bedrrom) DS1 had a GREAT day at school no tears no accidents!Yeah!

However thing went downhill from the moment i saw the sign " 3 cases of chickpox" on ds1 classroom door. Then in the evening went i saw the red spots on his back and tummy ... DP is on paternity leave next week so that should keep him busy A bit worried about LO catching though.

Sorry haven't answered anyone and its me me me post but i've a spotty little man w0ho is deperate to go on the chugginton website! Oh joy

scarlotti · 20/01/2010 08:57

maman your poor DS, hope he's feeling ok and only has a mild dose. Can you get Piriton in France? It's great for the itching, especially at night to help them get off to sleep.

Erika bless you. Hope Bryn is on the mend now and you're over your horrendous day. Sorry to hear you're friends situation, there are echos there with when I was pg with DD and her Dad who was a right t*sser at the time. Not much you can do for her really other than to be there for her and remind her that she would be able to be a single mum if that's what she chose.

We have clinic this morning, he hasn't been weighed for over a month! Jabs this afternoon so a medical day for us

Tired today, he's taken to being more unsettled after the 4/5 am feed so not really getting back to sleep. The one morning he was ok (yesterday) DS1 was shouting the house down! Had stopped changing his nappy at 10pm so maybe it's that bothering him?
Does everyone else change their babies at 10pm?

Fruitpastels · 20/01/2010 09:09

Scarlotti sounds like you're going through the same as me with the 4/5am feed. I had a couple of weeks where he wouldn't settle back down. He has started to settle again but only until 6am. He has a nappy change at 11pm when DH feeds him, otherwise he would be in the same nappy from 8pm onwards, keeping in mind he has a 6oz bottle of formula. They are so unpredicatable with their sleep. He has another set of jabs next week, so I anticipate a couple of very sleepy days which will throw the semi-routine out the window.

Baby also has a cold. Not poorly with it but very congested. I'm surprised he's doing so well with his sleep whilst being so bunged up.

DS1 also booked in for the swine flu jab. DH is taking him as I'm too chicken!!

Maman Pleased to hear both children are doing well

Erika Hope Bryn gets better soon. Is there an explanation from the Doctors why Bryn is being sick?

scarlotti · 20/01/2010 09:15

Fruit good to hear I'm not alone! I think I'm going to go back to changing him at 10. Stopped as the nappy was almost dry between 7 and 10, although that was when I was bf at 10. Now I try and pump plenty in him of ebm in a bottle!
He had been sleeping through to about 8, but now wakes at 7 at the latest. I wondered whether now the amount of sleep in the day might have an effect as they're more alert?
Going to switch the pram carrycot over to the buggy seat now so he can have more of a look around, might tire him out!

Did the jabs make baby sleepy? Can't remember back to 4 years ago for DS'! Handy to know what to expect.

scarlotti · 20/01/2010 09:19

TOK · 20/01/2010 10:27

Morning ladies

Fruit hope your lo gets over the cold. As you say, it's good that it isn't affecting sleep too much! Anya had her first set of jabs last week and was sleepy afterwards too.

Both DH and I are taking ds to get his sf jab. We figured one of us could distract him while the other holds him down .

maman, poor ds. I guess they are all going to get them at some point (altough dh has said there's a vaccine for chicken pox now . Try adding Bicarb of soda to the bath and using cooled chamomile tea to bathe them. Second the piriton too! Hope he just has a mild case

scarlotti we don't normally change Anya's nappy at the 11 o clock feed, unless it seems very wet. When I do change it then, I don't use wipes, jus tliterally change to a fresh nappy to prevent waking her up too much!

southern maybe I should speak to hv then, because Anya is only having about 18oz-20oz in a 24 hour period.

How much are your lo's sleeping during the day now? Also, how do you keep them stimulated? I've been putting Anya under the play gym, showing her baby books and trying tummy time-which she absolutely hates!

wook · 20/01/2010 10:50

Hi all

Baffled by people who don't allow children at weddings, but then everyone's different and I suppose some weddings are very formal. Still, I think children add something really lovely. I've never been to a wedding without children bopping about on the dancefloor and crawling under tables- at mine, a friend's daughter screamed 'no no no no' as we exchanged our vows!! (Children are so wise!)-we didn't care, everyone laughed, her dad wrestled her out of the back door when she wouldn't calm down, it was all cool.

TOK I feel a bit guilty that I'm not doing ore to stimulate Hedy in the day- I put her in her gym, chat to her and sing to her (poor child). That's it. But I think she gets most out of just watching the world go by, fixating on lights and shadows etc. Any ideas welcome here!

ERika glad you were seen and hopefully things will settle down for Bryn. Choking is terrifying. I am probably a bit of a 'paranoid parent' as you put it- well, our collection of A and E teddies would suggest that I am more than a bit paranoid to be honest - so Ninja I hope that the nappies issue gets sorted.

Taking Hedy for a swim today and it's Clooney day tomorrow with a baby screening of Up In The Air, so I can forget about being unemployed and terrified of the future for 48 hours at least

Can I just ask, has anyone taught a dc to ride a bike without stabilisers? And how did you do it? It's 'Operation Pedal' this weekend, ds is desperate to get the stabilisers off as all the kids at his school ride their bikes in the morning. Any hints?

VenusInfers · 20/01/2010 11:15

erika Poor little Bryn! I hope he's feeling a lot better, it must have been very scary for you. Hope he got a clean bill of health at your appointment today. James's bottom teeth have also moved nearer to the surface a couple of days ago, it made him very sucky and more unsettled for a day. at your friend's situation. Sounds like she'll need all the support you can give her. That chap sounds horribly controlling; do his parents not intervene?

scarlotti James didn't seem very bothered by his jabs, but he did wake up at 2am for the second night in a row and I'd like to think they were the cause! Otherwise things have taken an unfortunate turn... Read recently that breastfed babies, on average, start sleeping though the night at 13 weeks, whereas formula fed babies average at 10.5 weeks so normal that they're still a bit unpredictable at this stage.

maman Hurray for your good day. Appalled Impressed by your wallpapering at your first free day. Hope LO stays pox-free.

TOK 9wk old James' naps vary. Usually has one late morning or lunch and one in the afternoon. Will almost always drop off if in the pram whenever I take him out in it, which confuses things rather. His patterns are changing so much at the moment while he works out his night time schedule.
I put him under the play gym a couple of times a day (perfect for when I need to get a cup of tea or do a quick job), read to him once, tickle and cuddle him a bit. Discovered today that he's now happy to lie on the floor and just watch me do things for quite a time. Was able to clean the bathroom from top to bottom this morning as long as I looked over at him regularly and kept talking and singing to him. Anya's not the only one who hates tummy time - he lasts a little longer each day but doesn't see the point.

Anyone got any top tummy toning tips? Getting a bit depressed by my misshapen midriff..

scarlotti · 20/01/2010 12:29

Stimulation here tends to be more the watch mummy/ds/dd variety than anything structured. He's under his gym now chatting to the elephant but he won't stay under there for long. He hates tummy time so I don't tend to bother much, maybe I ought? I do talk to him a lot and he moves around the house with me in his bouncer chair to see what I'm doing!

Weighed today and is now 14lbs 1.5oz following the 75th centile line beautifully so going to stop stressing now at how quickly he feeds as he's obviously fine.

Naps vary here. Normallly 45 mins late morning around 10, then either a big one around lunch and a short one kate afternoon or a series of 45 mins throughout the day. Depends if we're out and about too.

sleeplessinthecity · 20/01/2010 12:59

Hi all.. Erika hope Bryn is better..poor you and him..

maman poor LO..chicken pox is boring..at least you have help next week..

Scarlotti charlotte had her jabs yesterday and was a little miserable and her chubby legs were even more swollen..had to resort to Calpol.. I change the nappy at 11pm in order to wake her up a bit to feed..she only has an ounce then falls back to sleep. At 4/5am its the same, only an ounce or two max...its all very boring.. posting the medela today btw.

venus had a look at my muffin top today and its well depressing.. I think some sit ups should help..its what I plan to do when I've got a mo..wait a minute..when the hell do i have a mo...feeding, cooking, putting to bed, mn-ing..oh and eating...when does anyone have a mo?????????

misssese · 20/01/2010 13:05

Hope everyone is doing well and enjoying your beautiful bundles of joy!! Pearl is just watching loose women ( am i a bad mother???) she loves it cant take her eyes off the tv whenever its on!!
Going to try and catch up now!
Lots of Love
Misssese (Scarlet)

skorpion · 20/01/2010 13:22

Hi all.

sleepless what's a mo? I've just spent the day trying to catch up on work that's piled up over xmas and am sitting here almost in tears cursing the moment I said to my client 'of course I'll be able to carry on'. Stupid, stupid girl! Lucy's just settled for a nap so better get on get off mn--.

LO's put on almost a pound in last week, the little piggy! She's almost 9lb now.
Do you know if I can safely use my baby bjorn carrier now and if there's a limit on the time I can put her in for? She doesn't like the babasling much - looks too squished and whimpers when I put her in it.

Sorry I'm not replying to anyone - really must go and do some work...

misssese · 20/01/2010 14:01

i have a babasling but not that keen at the mo either, i feel pearl is a bit squished and it seems to push her head into an awkward position! Maybe will be better when they are older? I also have a kari me sling which i really like but it does give me stiff shoulders. What slings does everyone have ? any recommendations ??

Ninjacat · 20/01/2010 14:10

I have a Close Sling. I love it.

Ninjacat · 20/01/2010 14:41

Erika Poor little Bryn, I hope he is feeling better now and that you are able to relax.

was going to write more but can hear baby has woken.

Just a quicky though. Alfie at 6+1/2weeks weighed in at 14lbs 13oz. Do I have a freakishly big baby?

skorpion · 20/01/2010 15:09

I know, misssese, Lucy's all squished and in a funny shape in it. She does not seem to like it at all.

I thought of getting a Close one, too.

VenusInfers · 20/01/2010 15:16

ninja Yes, yes you do.

FairyBex · 20/01/2010 15:36

I have a maya wrap that is great. It's a lot of material but simple to put on. Best use is definitely doing the weekly shop with DH at weekend (we both love food shopping so neither will give it up). I put the wrap on at home then put LO in his car seat so we can drive to the supermarket (live in the middle of nowhere) and then use the wrap once we're there.

I bought a ring sling but he hated it and looked squashed but he's asleep within 5 mins in the maya

Is everyone finding life easier now? I think I'm taking a bit of a step back. LO has been a bit grumpy for the past few days and has cried like his heart is breaking if he's anywhere other than in my arms and I've found it really distressing and I can feel my confidence has been knocked sideways Can I still have dodgy hormones at 9 wks cuz I'm sat here blubbing away?

scarlotti · 20/01/2010 16:31

I have a close sling and a babasling but barely use them tbh. I think I'll probably keep the babasling for a while but sell the close sling.
He looks a bit squashed in both of them, but I wonder does that change when they can hold themselves up a little better?
The babasling looks like it will be handy in holding his weight when he wants to sit on my hip and it looks much easier to bf in than the close one.

Got his jabs done today. He screamed at the time but calmed down after and has been asleep since!

scarlotti · 20/01/2010 16:37

sleepless thanks for posting the medela, will send the money across asap. I also do just a nappy change with no wipes if I change at 11pm.
I've arranged to walk around our local park with a friend once a week (with the pram) so am hoping that might start attacking the muffin top, although whether there are any muscles left in there after 3 dc's is another matter!!

Ninja he's a big boy alright!!

Fairy think they start to realise things more at this age, including that you and they are not one person and that they like to have you around where they can see you! Maybe use your sling around the house too?

PavlovtheCat · 20/01/2010 17:31

I have a babyhawk mei tai. Atm Reuben is a bit awkward in it, mostly his head, and there is a lot of material on the straps, but as he is growing he is fitting it better and he loves to sleep in it. It is fleece lined, so i will probably have to buy another one nearer the summer. I bought a mothercare one over christmas as it was cheap and I forgot to take my one with me. It was crap to say the least. It dug in, it did not hold him close, it was too low, rubbish. It is going back. Not that I anticated it being any good, it was an emergency.
