littlepea72 · 13/12/2009 07:41

Well done Ruby! Things seem to be looking good for you, long may it last

Does anyone give a sleep feed? I have been reading the baby whisperer, and it has about giving a feed around 11pm. Last night Faith got up at 1.15 3.45 & 5.30am, just wanting to know if anyone did, has it helped?

littlepea72 · 13/12/2009 07:42

Oh....i give her a bottle at 7-8pm before she goes to sleep for the night, then she wakes about 1 onwards

twinklegreen · 13/12/2009 08:20

littlepeaI have tried dream feeds in the past, but found it hasn't really made much difference. Mine always wake at the normal times anyway. Some people swear by them though.

BellaCullen · 13/12/2009 10:07

That`s great ruby.

We havent sorted a routine out yet during the week Nathaniel just naps around 9am,11.30am and 3.30pm this is when we do school and nursery runs.On weekends I find it harder to get him to sleep and have to walk round with him.Until hes finished with his medication won`t really bother.

Littlepea72 in evening he feeds between 7-8pm and then sleeps till 2-3am and feeds again around 6/7am.I dont bother with a dreamfeed as Im in bed by 9.30pm and want my sleep.Tried dreamfeeds with dd and they didnt make a difference so will just leave him.Dont really want him to get into habit of having a dreamfeeds either as I just think it`ll be harder to stop it later.

Nathaniel is having another little operation on his eye on tuesday should only take 10 mins and wont have to stay in over night.Didnt expect another op this quickly as its been only 6weeks since first one and they said might need one after 6 monhts not weeks. But know he`s in the best hands he can be.Am surprised how calm I am by all this but just think we have to try all the best we can for him.Am quite an opptomist whereas DP more a pesimist[sp?] so always thinks of worst case scenarios and ask all kind of weird questions to doctors.

Did some biscuits with kids yesterday and had great fun will be just relaxing at home today too still in my pjs now.Have a good day and hope all the poorly babies are getting better xxx

theboob · 13/12/2009 12:01

has taken me ages to catch up, sorry for the poorly babies hope they get on the mend soon
Madison was very ill last week with blocked nose etc , she had a temp so we gave her a little calpol and she choked , she went blue and we had to call an ambulance , choking is my biggest fear so I was a mess , DH took control thank god , we had to go to the hospital to be checked out and thankfully everything was ok , doc thinks that she inhaled some into her lungs and with the blocked nose could not get her breath

I have taken to staying inside to keep Madison away from all the germs that are around (sad i know) DD was a very ill baby and always had bronciolitus (sp)? so much so they thought she had cystic fibrosis , even though she is 7 it is still fresh in my mind , and while at the hospital i counted 5 babies smaller than her all on nebulizers and it brought it all back

are there any other babies using nipples as chew toys? she has started clamping down on my nipple and pulling away it really hurts !
Madison is 13 weeks tomorrow and just coming into 3-6 month clothes and growing out of her crib, we have also had to put the next stage on her pram as she is awake too much and far to nosey for the carrycot , sorry for the me me me post get well soon to all the poorly babies x x

princessmel · 13/12/2009 12:11

Feeling teary today. Feel sad about dd starting full time school in Jan I think she'll be too tired She naps most afternoons still. Legally she doesn't have to start until September so we'll see what happens and how she copes.

Last night/eve ds fed sooooo much. He cluster fed from 6ish till half 10. I was exhausted. He just couldn't switch off and stop feeding.
Then he woke at almost 2.30 and 5am. His bloody annoying cough woke him

Taking dc's to a party at a soft play place today. I'm not keen on taking F because of all the germs but I want us to be all together.

F has got to the stage where he wakes after I put him down , in the day, for his naps. dd and ds1 did this too and had to sleep on me. Until I sleep trained them when they were older..

Hope you're all ok.
bella glad you feel calm about the next op. It's scary but amazing how you manage to cope with these things.
ruby fabby about the bottle and expressing!
littlepea no dream feeds here. Can't be bothered and I never wake a sleeping baby!!! (at night)

Treats · 13/12/2009 17:34

Hi guys - apologies again for lack of regular contact. Find it hard to post when looking after the baby and usually have to spend so long catching up that I don't have time to add my own message.

Sorry to hear about all the hospital visits. Must have been a very frightening experience for all of you but glad to hear that babies have all come through it with no lasting worries.

HT - great news that the bf-ing is back on track and that Joseph (?) is now putting on weight. Hopefully it will all get better from now on.

Calypso - great idea about Christmas outfits FB album. Got a v. cute one of Isabel asleep in her chair with a Santa hat on.

Someone - ages ago - asked if my milk supply was suffering as a result of giving formula late at night. I've figured out that if I try to squeeze in 5 breast feeds between wakingup time and early evening then she should get enough from that and the bottle to go through the night, and AFAIK at the moment, she's getting sufficient. If I only manage 4 feeds then she'll wake up early (5.30 this morning). I need to be more disciplined about getting her and me up before 8am so that we can get going on the first of the 5, otherwise it's a struggle to squeeze them all in before 7pm - we like to give her the bottle between 9 and 9.30, so the final breast feed can't really be any later than that.

That was a long-winded way of saying that I still seem to be producing enough to manage those daytime feeds. However, I am thinking of slowly introducing more bottles - partly because I do want to stop BFing soon and partly because I want to be able to do fewer feeds in the day but don't think I will produce enough BM for her in only 4 feeds.

You'll also have gathered that there aren't really any strict routines Chez Treats. Just a general pattern to the day which is pretty flexible.

Just been helping DH to assemble the big cot. Isabel will have grown out of her Moses basket very soon and we want to give her enough time to get used to the cot (by putting the basket in it) before she does. She's filling out her 0-3 month babygros nicely so I expect she'll be in 3-6 months early in the New Year.

Igglybuff · 13/12/2009 19:07

Hi littlepea - William naturally wants a feed around 11pm but it's not a dream feed as he wakes up. It doesn't make much difference as he still wants food two hours later before having a longer stretch of sleep!

On the clothes issue - William is in 3-6 months now although a little long in the sleeve. Time to get buying more clothes for him

devilsadvocaat · 13/12/2009 20:51

charlie feeds and naps until i go to bed around 10.30, wakes at 3 then 7 or 2 and 5. around 7 i f he wakes he comes in my bed and i feed him to sleep so i can get up and bfast etc. i will prolly start putting him to bed at 7-8 after xmas.

during the day, sometimes he sleeps more than others. generally if i think he's getting over tired, i feed him to sleep on my bed. he doesn't settle as easy in the daytime as he does at night when i just plonk him in the mb.

i used dreamfeeding with ds1 and it worked a treat. will do it with ds2 if necessary.

he is having marathon cluster sessions since being ill. reminds me of life with ds1.

pm - i used to have kids fallin asleep in the home corner at my school she'll cope and if you're worried speak to the teacher about it. i'm sure he/she'll understand and make allowances.

hoooray for ruby!

haven't expressed for ages. have 6 x 4oz feeds in freezer tho so will see how much he drinks on saturday night. i am really excited although have no idea what to squeeze into wear.

littlepea72 · 14/12/2009 05:57

Bella I think women cope better anyway, and you have been through it once with the little guy, so maybe you just know what to expect this time round. I hope everything goes well for him....big hugs

Theboob when i read your post, i got a chill going up the back of my neck, that is my fear too, and at night Faith cant breath right, but for your little one to start turning blue what a night that must of been. Hope she is ok now. Did the doc give you any advice on her wee blocked nose?

Treats good idea about putting the MB into the cot, I think i will do that with Faith also, to get her used to it. She is the full length of the MB, but she loves having her face up close to the sides, like a comfort thing. My DS didnt like the MB as he wanted space, Faith is so different, but wont be able to fit into it for much longer.

For some reason when i turns 4.30am Faith starts to get uncomfortable, grunting & crying, nothing will calm her. But if i lift the MB & carry her downstairs, she goes all calm again & sleeps away! This means im up early & not getting full sleep, dont know why this happens with her!
On a better note, for all that can remember the problems im having with my DH, things took a turn for the better yesterday. He was meant to be away on a course for 2 weeks, but had to cancel, so now he is off work (they stand down over xmas) for 3 weeks. I really was dreading it, and didnt know what to expect. But i found him yesterday, holding her & playing with her, Faith was giving the smiles & the cooing, and i think he just fell in love with her. He even told me to go back to bed for a couple of hours , so i left him with Faith on his knee, and his arm arround DS who was playing the PS3.....shock was not the word. Last night he told me he was so impressed with Faith who just sits watching our DS & laughs. It might not last, but at least he started trying

devilsadvocaat · 14/12/2009 15:21

ah that's brill! little by little sometimes it takes time to bond. so pleased for you x

Igglybuff · 14/12/2009 19:23

ooo devils where are you going on saturday? I'm out on Friday and have been expressing although my periods started (!) which reduced my milk supply for a bit... I can't wait to dress up - it's been SO long..

devilsadvocaat · 14/12/2009 21:14

going for a meal and drinks with the girls and sister.

tried on a couple of outfits. feel trussed up like a christmas turkey but my sis assures me everyone is getting dressed up. also, it has been a loooooong time since i walked in heels.

i'd rather just wear jeans and fade away into insignificance.

theboob · 15/12/2009 07:04

hi littlepea, only advice given was saline drops , she seems much better now, although still stuffy
Madison has just slept through a whole 6 hours from 12 till 6 , but i was awake till 12 anyway
has anyone else started having periods again while EBF, this morning i have the start of AF and had horrible PMT last week .......I will be very peeved if I have full AF while breast feeding
yeah for night's out , it's my mums xmas night out on saturday and I cant wait

twinklegreen · 15/12/2009 08:10

I didn't start periods till my other two were nearly a year old I'm hoping it will be the same this time. I'm so much more even tempered without them

twinklegreen · 15/12/2009 08:15

Anyone thought about contraception yet? I've not bothered since 2003 as I've just been pregnant-breastfeeding-pregnant-breastfeeding, letting nature take it's course. I'm going to have to start thinking about it as I definately (well nearly definately ) don't want any more! Was on the pill before, don't really want to go back onto it, was thinking maybe the copper coil or the mireana (sp?) coil, although have heard alot of negativity about the mireana.

twinklegreen · 15/12/2009 08:17

sorry that should be pregnant-breastfeeding-pregnant-breastfeeding-pregnant-breastfeeding

devilsadvocaat · 15/12/2009 09:10

lol twinkle

i'm avoiding anything with hormones in.
will prolly get coil.

no af yet and ebf. think ds1 was about 8 months when i got it last time.

littlepea72 · 15/12/2009 12:13

Twinkle im going to get the mireana coil fitted, what negativity have you heard? Just before i go in Feb for it. Over here the army doesnt fit them for 12 weeks after the baby is born. I want DH to get chopped fixed as ive been told not to have any more children, my scar wouldnt be able to take it. So untill then.....no sex!!

Im bottle feeding but my AF is bad! So grumpy before hand, but god its heavy this time round! Thats why the mireana sounds good....no more periods! Plus i cant have anything with hormones in it, or i end up in hospital, so this coil sounds the one for me.

Just had Faith to get her first jabs . I hate injections! Its strange because back home i work with cats, i have to inject them alot & its ok, but with people i freak out...strange.

rubyslippers · 15/12/2009 13:03

hi everyone

sorry not been around much - v hectic
Ruby had another growth spurt saturday/sunday and fed non stop but settled down again

We don't have a routine as she is still cluster feeding in the evenings

once this stops/calms down which i hope will be soon, we will start a bath and bedtime routine

no periods for me yet (a great bonus) and the best contraception is a non sleeping baby

sorry for lack of personals - will try to catch up more later

xx

twinklegreen · 15/12/2009 13:36

littlepea I have heard it's hard to lose weight on it, which is one of my top priorities now I have stopped producing babies!

twinklegreen · 15/12/2009 13:36

oooh just noticed

HappyTangerine · 15/12/2009 15:12

Littlepea that's lovely news about your DH bonding with Faith, really brought a tear to my eye.

Bella hope op went well
Princessmel hope you are feeling a bit better

theboob how scary for you, hope she is on the mend now

Twinklegreen-hadn't really thought about contraception, after 3 years of trying to get pregnant it's hard to get my head round needing contraception! I think my preference would be copper coil, I feally don't want the pill again. No sign of AF here although am getting twinges.

We put the tree up on Sunday and Joseph had a good kick of the tinsel and decorations. He keeps smiling and laughing at the Christmas tree, its so sweet to watch. It means that feeding on one side is a bit dificult at the moment as he keeps craning his head round to look at the lights. So are we all organised for Christmas? I've not got much for Joseph yet-what are you all geting for your babies? So far I've got a set of books (he loves people reading to him) and some clothes.Am cooking Christmas dinner twice-one on Christmas day for us and MIL and then on Boxing day for us, my mum and sister!

Thanks for all your responses to the sleep question. I'm trying to get us into a loose routine and have moved rocking chair into our bedroom to make the night feeds a bit easier. I cannot get the hang of feeding lying down, its so frustrating baause I did it instinctively those first few nights I was home from hospital.

Sending get well vibes to all the poorly babies x

theboob · 15/12/2009 17:19

I had the implant fitted a week ago , maybe this is why my period has returned up to now v.v light

fidelma · 15/12/2009 18:56

boobthinking of you.I am also keeping Connor in and away from germs, which is not very easy with 3 children at school and nursery

DD2 is doing round 2 of her nativity at the moment .DD1 is handing out programs. ds1 is watching tv with a santa hat on while the varooca (sp) cream dries on his varooca.Connor has just had a cluster feed and is in his cot, for the moment.I am eatting sweets and catching up although I can hear crying from Connor,so must go.I can't decide whether to go out and meet my girl friends tonight or just have a hot bath and go to bed?

Up at 12.30 am
2.30am
4.30am
5.30am with ds1 (which I thought was 6.30am
6am got ds1 up (thought it was 7am)
6.15am fed Connor
7am got the girls up
7.15am Connor up

Oh well it doesn't last
