Here we are on the other side-finally. Well done ladies!

On 2nd lot of AB's and they are suitable for BF so no expressing needed.

evening all

princessmel - so pleased Freddie is on the mend, Must be a huge relief

HC - sorry to hear about your back - get your OH to massage it for you!

Ruby had a better night - went down after cluster feeding from 3pm at 9.30 pm and woke at 2.45 am

she is so hit and miss bless her - tonight she will probably be up until 11 pm

Clusterfeeding - who else has a baby that does this? If you had DCs before who did this, when did they stop? DS never did it although he fed frequently

willow - if you want to relactate it is possible. If you search the archives on here you will find threads about it ... takes a hell of a lot of perseverance but apparently it can be done

immunisations - on a reassuring note, Ruby had hers 10 days ago and apart from a squawk when she had the jabs she was perfectly fine and had no effects. I also had the calpol on standby but she didn't need a drop

sending sleepy vibes to everyone for tonight

Hi everyone
Sorry not been on for a while but had mum-in-law visiting. Rather stressful at times as you can imagine!
Princessmel - so glad Freddie is better. Bronchiolitis is scary as they get poorly so quickly.
HC - thanks for the reassuring words about Matthew getting less clingy as he got older. Felix has definitely been more able to settle himself in his Moses basket over the last few days although last night he was up for hours (two steps forward and one back, I keep telling myself!)
Willow - Felix hasn't had his jabs yet - due just before Xmas. Am anticipating a bit of a temp and a whinge though!
Treats - wish I was still in London but we moved up to Shropshire this year which is why we don't know many people.Still, am going to brave a breastfeeding group tomorrow I think!
Went to Chester cathedral with my mother and mother-in-law on Thurs for a cuppa. Bad idea. Those gothic arches meant the acoustics were just perfect for amplifying Felix's screams when he decided to wake up! argh!!!
Fingers crossed for some sleep tonight ladies!!

Igglybuff · 07/12/2009 17:58

HC, so it's not just any turkey...? (sorry, bad joke)

Willow I don't know anyone going to my HV groups but will go, although will be nervous! I also popped down to my local family and children centre today to check it out...

Also I've seen on here that people have restablished breastfeeding so it can be done. Good luck.

cluster feeding - I don't think William has ever done it but he feeds a bit more frequently at night. However he never has a massive stretch of sleep beyond 4 hours - I live in hope!

I'm going to start moving William to his cot for nights but not sure because he still feeds a lot. We've got a drop down which can be put right against the bed. Here's hoping it works! However as he's my PFB I want to keep him close in our bed... What to do?!!

princessmel · 07/12/2009 18:50

Evening everyone
So here's what happened.
After they sent us home on wednesday, he was deffo not right on the thursday and I nearly went back then. But dh thought we should wait and see how he was in the morning. But the next day he was still breathing really noisily and quickly. I booked an appt for 11.
Before we went I fed him and as I put him in the car seat he was sick, so I took him up to change him and when I took off all his clothes you could see how hard he was breathing. I really panicked. H looked a really odd colour too
When I got to the doc I burst into tears and after checking him she sent us back to A & E in an ambulance. Lights and sirens on, driving soooo fast. His breathing was fast and he had ressesions in his tummy, I could see his ribs sticking out. When the ambulance men first came into the room they put an oxygen mask on him and once in the ambulance did a blood test in his foot.
He was head bobbing and using his accessory muscles to breathe , plus he had a tuck in his neck.
We were in A and E for a while and they put a cannula in his hand. This was awful as they had to do it 2 times as because he was so sweaty (through crying and breathing so fast)and wet with blood, the plasters wouldn't stick the cannula in place. I was crying as I felt useless and so sorry for him. Then he had his blood gas tested, this was horrid too as they had to squueze blood out of his foot into 2 this tubes. He was screaming so much.
I tried to feed him but he couldn't really manage it and breathing at the same time. This is why they had to put in the cannula, for a drip. They offered a bottle so they could see how much milk he was actually taking, but I refused.

He stayed in hospital from friday to sunday evening.
He was put on oxygen on friday afternoon and a salt/sugar/water drip as feeding was too much of an effort for him.
They said his normal breathing should be about 45-50 breaths per minute, some of the time it was in the late 70's. His sats were between 93 and 100 on the day we went home.

On the last day they slowly weaned him off the oxygen and his drip. He started to feed better on saturday evening, whuch was lovely.

The only posotive thing about our stay was that I think I cleared the blockage in my boobs. I was expressing so I wasn't in pain, plus I wanted to keep my supply up, and also they wanted some incase he needed a tube feed. But I think the pump may have cleared them as they feel smoother now. very happy about that.

Anyway he's fed loads today and did a yellow poo!!! Then another green watery one

Hope you're all ok xxx

Igglybuff · 08/12/2009 09:07

princess I'm so glad F is on the mend. Reading that post sent shivers down my spine - what a horrid experience!! I hope you're okay

devilsadvocaat · 08/12/2009 09:50

glad f is home now pm

i got charlie to take 1oz from a bottle yesterday

crappy night last night though...

rubyslippers · 08/12/2009 10:20

so pleased to hear that Freddie is ok - what a scary time

devils - good news re the bottle, but sorry to hear you had a bad night. Ruby was up at 12.30 am, 3.45 am and 5.55 am - hungry girl

hope everyone is ok ... i am feeling tired and grumpy today and trying not to crack open the biscuits this early

littlepea72 · 08/12/2009 12:32

Mel really glad that Freddie is on the mend, what a horrible time you both had, i would of been sectioned with panic!

Faith went to sleep last night after her feed at 9pm, then woke at 2.30am , that was great, then 5am & 9am. But she was snuffling so much from 3am that i was awake with the sounds she was making , but it showed that she could go longer between feeds. Hope for more the same tonight

HappyTangerine · 08/12/2009 14:21

So glad Freddie is on the mend, Mel, it sounds like a terrifying experience.

I'm just back from thr breastfeeding cafe Christmss party. We made some new friends . It was Christmas dress for the kids and they all looked so adorable in their outfits. Lots of Santas and a very cute Christmas pudding. Joseph went as an elf but just as we were leaving the house did a huge poo that went through his clothes so it was onto plan B-jeans and red "My first Christmas top and hat. BF counsellor said he is feeding beautifully and she's going to have a word with the hv about the stress of all these weigh ins.

Am shattered now-2 hr feeds day and night are taking their toll. There is a mint Aero calling me-would be rude not to eat it! x

princessmel · 08/12/2009 16:19

Thanks all of you, it was really scary and sort of unreal. Like I couldn't believe that he was so ill and we we're actually in hospital. I am really proud of myself though as I usually panic about being by myself at night (when they are babies). And I think I coped really well! It definately helped that the nurses and doctors were so nice. And that they were checking on us so frequently.

littlepea it sounds like you've really had improvements with Faith I hope she keeps it up!!

HT what a shame about the outfit! Lucky you hd a plan B though. Freddie had loads of Christmas things to wear, which were mostly new baby pressies. He has a santa suit, with the white fluffy trimming, and a belt!! A white, christmas fluffy sleepsuit and another one that says 'mummy's Christmas pudding' . Plus we have some christmassy babygros that were dd's He's all sorted!!

I have been ordering a lot of things for christmas ( and me!!) the last few days, I am going to be receiving a lot of parcels over the next weeks Still have quite a bit to do though. I am not sure when I'm going to get it done though as I don't want to be taking Freddie into the busy shops with all the germs. The nurses said I should be strict about visitors etc, as he will be more likely to pick all sorts of things up at the moment. Poor baby x

He was doing loads of real smiles today! It was really lovely

willow77 · 08/12/2009 19:18

Hi Ladies,

I hope you are all well and getting some sleep!

Happy to hear Freddie is better, must have been awful for you.

Deviladvocat - bet you were pleased that lo took from the bottle yesterday.

Bettacullen - did you have a good night out?
I have my works xmas do next week, am really looking forward to it but know I will miss Poppy and end up coming home early!

Had our first bad night with Poppy last night, she just wouldn't settle at all - first one in 7 weeks so can't complain really. We have been taking her moses basket up and down for the last 7 weeks, but Sunday we set up the crib upstairs and think it will take some getting used to (she looks so tiny in it).

Sorry to be a nitwit, but what is relactating? is this where you don't express or bf? I am expressing at the moment, but as Poppy has never been bf I honestly don't think she will take to it, probably not helped by us using TT bottles as my nipples are certainly not as big as the teats - lol

Is everyone ready for christmas? I am so unorganised it is scarey. What is everyone getting their Lo's? We got the Aquarium gym

twinklegreen · 08/12/2009 19:33

willow you could try nipple shields, she may latch on with them.

CalypsoFramboise · 08/12/2009 21:06

princessmel goodness me, poor little Freddie, I'm sorry to hear that he's had a hard time over the weekend, I hope he's all well again very soon XX

Willow welcome Good luck with starting BF little Poppy, and enjoy the mother and baby groups; they are a lot of fun!

devils good luck with bottle switch. Its hard to know when it's best to start that kind of thing; as i stll have trouble with feeding on the right, which one bf counsellor said could be nipple confusion since we introduced an expressed feed from 2weeks old... and empathty with the loss of precious BM, I once accidently knocked over a full 130ml (c 4oz) bottle of freshly expressed milk in the bed soaking my PJs and pillow. I did actually cry, it really is that annoying!

HC goodness, Matthew had 7oz of expressed milk!! Annalise is still only taking 2.5oz... DH and I went to the cinema yesterday afternoon, and had mulled wine in with us whilst my mum had Annalise. Bliss!

Twinkle thanks for the reassurance about slow weight gain. Its hard not to fret when Annalise has sunk from 45th to 2nd centile.. BUT she is 10cm longer than her birth length which is LOT more than her centile, so I hope that's what all my feeding is fueling! Seeing the HV visitor tomorrow, and you are right, I will refuse to top up with formula unless I can be persuaded that she is actually suffering from the slow weight gain. She seems fine in every other way to me and others.

igglybuff sounds like you're having a tough time right now - I keep saying to myself; this will pass, it won't always be this hard. Just wish it was sooner rather than later! X

Ruby Annalise has the odd cluster feed session, like you from c3:30 - c10pm, thankfully for only one or two days a time, I can't magine what it must be like for you to go through that so often, my heartfelt sympathy.

I think that we should have a FB album for our LO in Chrimbo outfits

Igglybuff · 09/12/2009 05:36

Calypso we've had a much better time the last couple of nights. Last night William slept for ages with feeds at 8pm, 1am and 5am (which I'm doing now!) I'm in shock and so were my boobs which were very full. Unfortunately I seem to have the beginnings of mastisis (again) so need him to feed every two hours.... I'll be tackling it today.

Willow relactating is re-establishing your milk supply. But if you express, sounds like you've kept yours going? so you just need to get Poppy back on. I saw a thread in the feeding forum about someone trying - worth a read?

rubyslippers · 09/12/2009 10:15

morning

am knackered - Ruby woke every 2.5 hours last night

will i ever sleep again?!

have to go out today because i need to get a breast pump ...

iggly - great news about william!

willow - hve you called one of the breastfeeding helplines about re-lactating?

will check back in later

xx

fidelma · 09/12/2009 11:28

Just a quick post.Connor went to hospital on Friday because of a bad chest. We were in for 4 hours and then home it has all been a bit stressful. He is very chesty and has coughing fits every morning but is then OK.He is feeding all the time, day and night and is in bed with me.Exhaustion is us.The other 3 have all have separate nativities, concerts and parties it really is a marathon.I am so sad as I am going to miss my DD1 concert tonight as I am looking after Connor.I would so love to see it. My internet has been down so haven't yet had a chance to catch up.Love to all xxx

fidelma · 09/12/2009 11:40

pinncessmel I've just read your post.Poor you. They did say that Connor had broncilites but I am not sure. he wasn't nearly as bad as Freddie but I think we were close.I have kept him in ever since as I don't want him to pick up anything eles.I have felt slightly OOT about doing this but your post reminded me how quickly that they can go down.Thinking for you xxxx

littlepea72 · 09/12/2009 12:47

Fidelma i hope Connor is ok, poor wee thing. Very scarey when they are so young. Hope DD1 has a great concert tonight xx

Faith slept from 9-2.30am, 4.30am with a dirty nappy & then another feed at 7am. For some reason from 4.30 onwards she gets bad wind & cries alot in her sleep, does anyone else have that problem?

HappyTangerine · 09/12/2009 15:44

Fidelma sending you and Connor a big hug. I hope he's on the mend now. xxx

Joseph is having a feeding/sleeping frenzy today, I don't know where he's putting it all.

Igglybuff · 09/12/2009 19:13

littlepea yes, William has that although not the last two nights where he's been good (mmm let's see how long it lasts). I have been tilting him on his side to sleep and letting him start off on my chest face down which helps a bit. If he gets wind and is on his back he looks terrified then cries!

devilsadvocaat · 09/12/2009 19:32

hi all,

another one in hospital here too.

tuesday charlie had another bad coughing fit and we called an ambulance as he was turning purple around eyes and mouth. we went to hosp with blue lights and he was put on o2 as sats were low. we were admitted for obs and just got home an hour ago. he has little red marks on his cheeks from where they taped a tube up his nose but apart from that he seems much better.

again, bronchiolitus (sp?).

feeling exhausted now. hoping for a good sleep tonight.

fidelma, hope connor is ok x

twinklegreen · 10/12/2009 08:36

devils and fidelma so sorry your little ones have been poorly. It sounds really scary, my dd1 had bronchiolitus (sp?)at 12wks and it was the most terrifying experience ever. (since surpassed by her having neurosurgery!)I remember the doctor saying that around this time all the antibodies they get from us at birth start to wear off and that's why they start to catch things. Amelie has been snuffly for the last few days, but fortunately it doesn't seem too bad.

ruby my dd1 was a major cluster feeder, can't really remember when it stopped although she went into her cot at 20wks and she definately wasn't still doing it then.

littlepea So glad to hear you nights are improving

calypso good idea about the facebook album.

Got my childrens pre-school nativity today, can't wait their going to be so cute! Poppy is and Angel and Freddie is a donkey

Anyone elses LO in 3-6mth clothes yet? I went up in the loft and got out all dd1's old clothes.... boy did she have alot of clothes!!!! I'm now wasing and drying them all. It's quite exciting seeing all her old outfits that I loved and getting to use them again I'm also a bit sad that my baby is growing so quickly and I'll never have a newborn again... sob

Have a good day everyone x

wibblydibs · 10/12/2009 11:28

Hello, not been on for a while so just catching up - all these poorly babies, must've been very scary, hope everyone's recovered now. PM Louis had a canula put in when he was born, it's so horrible to see in their little arms - and I remember that feeling of helplessness all too well

Someone mentioned bedtime routines - I bath Louis with his sisters at about 6.30 then give him a quiet feed in a darkish room. Seems to be working at the moment, sometimes he feeds for a few hours but then he sleeps for 4-6 hours. He seems to understand that it's bedtime - can't get him to sleep in the day though (unless in my arms)

Twinkle Louis is growing out of some 3-6 month clothes - he was weighed on Tuesday (10 wks) and was 15lb 1oz

Have a nice day everyone.

littlepea72 · 10/12/2009 11:40

Devils glad Charlie is ok now, poor wee thing.

Faith is also in 3-6 months, at 9 wks & 14lb's, she is almost the same size as my 6 month old niece!

HappyTangerine · 10/12/2009 11:53

devils So sorry to hear Charlie has been unwell, this illness sounds terrifying.

Twinkle We're still in 0-3 months atm but I think I'm going to have to go 3-6 in sleepsuits and trousers, Joseph is so long that his trousers are getting above his ankles. Btw, I still can't acceess the facebook group

Good news here-had Joseph weighed this morning and he's put on 7oz! So very happy. He's following the 9th centile but even hv agrees that he is very long and that is affecting the pattern of growth. She is going to plot his growth on a breastfeeding growth chart and pop it through the door.

Joseph has a little cough every few hours but is otherwise grand. He's started chattering away which is very cute. Have moved his changing mat onto the floor as he started rolling this motning (mat was on dining table) and I was scared he'd roll off.

Right, I need to get on with some Christmas stuff-I've done nothing so far.Not normally this disorganised, honest!
