quick - what's the iron supplement you all rate (for a friend)?

I wasn't going to tell you off Myjob, just offer some help.

Firstly, stopping eating or cutting down on food really isn't going to help the situation. You need to do something to tone up if it's wobbliness you're miserable about. You don't have any fat to lose so all that would happen would be that you burned muscle & the wobbliness would get worse! There are lots of skinny yet wobbly women out there. Luckily legs respond very well to exercise and you see results really quickly. I have an excellent book I can lend you.

Secondly, I totally agree with Pistachio regarding a-line skirts. They emphasis your waist and skim your hips & bottom which is really slimming. On top to give you some boobs try something with a bit of ruffle or volume around that area but fitted around the waist. Like this. You could also try an empire line dress with a gathered top like this. Essentially you need all the detail on your top half and keep the bottom half simple. Your stomach isn't big or round so if it is causing you problems it's only due to lost muscle tone so you can get round that with some high waisted Magic tights from M&S. They are fantastic and will give you a smooth flat tummy for the evening. If your worried about your arms (which I remember being perfectly fine from Warwick) then find a tiny cardigan or even better a wrap to throw over your shoulders. Nobody outside of my immediate family has ever seen the tops of my arms so I am very good with ways to hide truly hideous arms!

The things that are upsetting you about your body are fixable, but you need time & to give yourself a break. Your body has grown two new people, it's bound to have some war wounds.

One of my New Year's resolutions is going to be stop being so negative about myself & I think you should join me Myjob. I can do it with my deformed, lumpy repulsive belly, my enormous kebab legs and old lady bingo wings then you can do it too.

Spatone CSWS.

Ekka · 04/12/2009 18:03

Has anyone bought their dcs an advent calendar this year? We have this and they are already fighting over it competing to open it. A taste of things to come I feel....

Myjob, please don't feel down about your figure - you look lovely in all the photos I've seen of you... But I can't help with ideas of how to dress - I'm hopeless at picking outfits. I live in jeans and baggy tops

Star - I would dearly like to slap your dh. I'm really at his behaviour. Honestly, now he has a child he must see that he has to mature a bit.

Got some antibiotics for my sinuses, so I'm feeling a little bit more human now. Which is a good thing as both my dcs are being very wicked today . Livens things up somewhat!!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/12/2009 18:24

Thanks 50ft .

Sorry to hear you feeling so low myjob.

Sorry that your dh is being a knob again star.

Ekka - mine have a wooden calendar each, which I've had to find small presents for for each day .

OP posts:
50ftChristmasTree · 04/12/2009 18:25

That's lovely Ekka, I was thinking of getting something like that for them but what do you put in it? Good news about the sinuses. It's such a relief when they start to clear isn't it?!

M is a not very well poppet tonight. She's got a HORRIBLE cough and is feeling very sorry for herself. She's hardly eaten all day and when DH gave her a biscuit she held it for two hours before nibbling a tiny corner. DH is taking her to see the nurse at the "walking" centre as the cough is very nasty and she is pretty wheezy & lethargic.

Awwww man, just realised that my spell check isn't working. Damn it! I have to check my spellings properly. Booo.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/12/2009 18:35

The one Ekka has doesn't need stuff to go in it - the wooden characters (shown in the pic on top of it) are in the boxes.
But dd's this year contains balloons (animal shaped with stickers to put on for eyes), inflatable punch balls, a few sweets, a nail varnish, some 'fairy dust' (face glitter), and some stickers when I get round to buying them!

The boxes on ds' are slightly bigger, so he is mostly getting the rings from this in his, and will also get some balloons, punchball and maybe a sweet or two or a satsuma!

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 04/12/2009 18:36

Oh and dd asked this morning if your ds could come and play with her 50ft. Are we likely to manage a meet up over the Christmas hols?

OP posts:
50ftChristmasTree · 04/12/2009 18:47

Hee hee! I don't see why not CSWS! I'll tell DS now.....

He just did a big , nodded and asked if he can bring some of his Christmas toys with him. There's your answer! The boys aren't going to the States anymore either so we will have plenty of time free over the holidays.

50ftChristmasTree · 04/12/2009 18:48

Oh and that makes Ekka's advent calender even better.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/12/2009 18:51

Oh what happened to the trip to the states?

But yay for it meaning that you'll have plenty of time to meet up!

OP posts:
50ftChristmasTree · 04/12/2009 18:56

Dh is poorly organised, didn't book flights in time and didn't sort out a new passport for DS. I don't think he really fancied going without M and I anyway. We are all going to go at Easter instead. Won't be any snow then though. Booooo!

ronshar · 04/12/2009 20:16

I am an Advent purist. Nativity scene and most def no chocolates. I love a proper calendar and to be really honest I dont really understand how it has gone from opening a door each day to full on wooden affairs.
I dont mean to be all judgy but I mean WTF does chocolate have to do with advent?
Maybe I should add that to pushchairs, women driving their children 200 yards to school and pressurising 4 year olds at school as things that really get on my nerves

Myjob. I know how hard it is to feel good about yourself when all you can see is the bad bits.
Unless you have changed alot since June when I saw you then this is what I can remember were your best bits.
Your face. Very pretty and open. I would suggest perhaps having your hair cut a bit shorter and chopped in to frame your face a bit more.
You have a lovely small waist. So go for a dress which nips in at the waist with 3/4 length sleeves.
Or top with same length sleeves. Stay away from boot leg trousers as I always found they made my hips look massive.
Black does not make you look thinner it just makes you look like you are hiding (sorry 50ft). Get some colour in your life. Pink, light Blue, Greens. I think they all go with your colouring.

Star, Ask yourself if the good outweighs the bad. If it does then sometimes swallowing your tongue is easiest. But only if the good is much much better than the best of the bad bits. If you think that in ten years time you will be happy as things stand then do nothing. But if not think very hard about what you will do.

50ftChristmasTree · 04/12/2009 20:26

No need to say sorry Ronshar. The only thing that would make me look thinner is to blindfold everyone. I am hiding. Who wants to look at this? [vomit]

ronshar · 04/12/2009 20:30

50 ft, you have a beautiful face and quite frankly the most dainty feet I have ever seen on a grown woman. Give yourself a break. 12 months post hernia op and you will be half the woman.

50ftChristmasTree · 04/12/2009 20:39

It's just making me so damn miserable though. I have a huge bloody mountain to climb but I can't even start to think about it until I've climbed down into the next huge hole. You say I should I give myself a break but when is life ever going to give me a break? It's just one thing after another. It's too much. Why cant I just be better? I have a hideous scar down the middle of stomach and will no doubt end up with more. I don't recognise myself anymore. I have never been this fat before, I can't stand it. I don't do anything or go anywhere because I am too ashamed. I feel like the fucking elephant man.

CantSleepWontSleep · 04/12/2009 20:46

Awww ladies - tis the season to be jolly you know! You are always welcome to stand next to me to make yourself look and feel better 50ft .

Bah humbug to the anti-calendar purist in you Ronshar! Although I agree that choc every day seems unnecessary.

OP posts:
50ftChristmasTree · 04/12/2009 20:48

Awww bless you CSWS but you're really not as big as you seem to think you are.

I was going to add, untill I decided to wallow in self-pity:
Unfortunately my Dad bought a chocolate calender for DS and gave it to him to bring home so there was no hiding it.

Ronshar - I used to insist that my mum bought me a sparkly religious themed Advent Calender every year but even the Catholic shop in Canterbury has stopped sellng them. 'Tis the end of an era.

lol pistachio. I have chunky children with a sweet tooth and don't want them to turn out like me, hence feeling that chocolate is unnecessary.

50ft - unfortunately my scales don't agree with you, but thanks .

OP posts:
aubergenie · 04/12/2009 21:09

I agree that chocolate has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas, but I did enjoy our Divine Fairtrade chocolate advent calendar last year (has to be Fairtrade though, as that's in the spirit of Christmas). Ekka - your advent thingy is very sweet.

I'm so disorganised this year that I haven't managed to get one together yet. I'm about to crawl around in the big damp cupboard to dig out our Christmas decorations. I need to check that they haven't gone mouldy.

Myjob and 50ft - I'm so sorry that you both feel so down on yourselves. I've not met either of you but you both look lovely in the photos I've seen. Women are so often their own worst critics. I know I am. It's so horrible when you can only see the bad bits. One of the reasons we're not married is that I couldn't bear to have a wedding day where everyone was looking at me.

I'm very . Turns out we've got some serious bullying going on in my class. The boy being bullied actually got off the school premises at lunchtime and was wandering round the streets on his own . He's very very distressed. We're dealing with it, but the dynamics between lots of children in the class are really difficult at the moment. They've been so badly behaved for me and my job share partner this week that our class Christmas decorations have been packed away until they show us that they deserve to have them put up.

50ftChristmasTree · 04/12/2009 21:18

Oh indeed Aubergenie. Bullying scares me so much as it is just so horrible. The children you teach are fairly young aren't they? Poor little lad. It must be pretty upsetting for you too, I know teachers get close to their classes. I hope the class redeems itself soon. Must be soooooo draining.

aubergenie · 04/12/2009 21:35

50ft - I cannot wait till we break up. They're year 4, so 8 years old. I think it's a funny age, as a lot of those kind of problems seem to come out then. He's one of those children who just looks vunerable and the whole class needs a lot of work relationships/friendships etc.

Star - I meant to say before, it sounds like your dh is being very difficult. Agree with Ronshar. Is there more good than bad? I've got all sorts of gripes about dp (and he has about me) but most of the time we try and shut up about them becuase we know that in the grand scheme of things they're not important. It's difficult for you if he won't discuss anything at all though. That would drive me mad.
