Ds also has eczema on the back of his knees, as well as still on his chest and back. Although when he was off his food for a week it all got a lot better, so I suspect that it is food related. Poss a problem with tomatoes, but I can't remove those from his diet.

Christmas cake is very rich fruit cake star. I don't bother as I'm not a fan of fruit cake, and they usually have royal icing on which I also don't like. I do adore the marzipan that forms the layer between the cake and the icing though - yum yum!

N's bottom sounds most like teething to me.
Ds had hideous bottom earlier this week, but think that that was as a result of those antibiotics he was given last week. Is clearing up now.

I am feeling much better today thank you star. And have been drug free since 6pm last night. Have arranged to see my GP on Thurs to talk about what we do longer term.

Went for ante-natal appt at hospital this afternoon, and they did a 'mini-scan' - little portable machine with a tiny screen. I couldn't make out a blummin thing on it, even when the dr was pointing stuff out, but apparently there is a baby in there (just the one) with a heartbeat, so we told dd tonight. She jumped up and down excitedly going yay another baby another baby. And then she said 'will I still be able to have a cuddle?', and I said 'yes sweetheart, you'll always be able to have cuddles with mummy' and then her face crumpled and she started to cry and said that my tummy might get too big for me to cuddle her. So I think we can call it a mixed reaction .

Yuk for hernia 50ft. But it's not just old men who get them. Dh had one as a baby - had 2 operations before he turned 2.

pistachio I think in the UK they only give it to children over 2. So you could say it's for your DD?
The plastic wrap works a charm if it gets really bad and cracked.

Ksal - mature? What needs to mature in it? dried fruit has presumably already matured... I mean, they are dead flies after all . and 25 days worth? I believe you, I just don't get it.

Oh yes, pistachio - aveeno also soothes very nicely from what I remember.

StarExpat · 01/12/2009 20:41

Yay for feeling better csws Since you are... isn't that fondant icing as you corrected 50ft earlier?

StarExpat · 01/12/2009 20:44

oh poor DD csws Bless her. She was probably so overwhelmed with the news that she got all mixed up with emotion. Maybe you can tell her that when your belly grows from the baby that means there will be even more to cuddle

No star, it's royal icing. You won't catch me out .

I think you should change your fb status to say that you have a lovely cervix pistachio, and see how many comments you get.

Oh come on, pistachio! How funny would that be?!?! hahahahaha

Ekka · 01/12/2009 22:13

Star here is a recipe for Xmas cake. At the bottom of the recipe is the important information - as well as letting the cake mature you have to put some brandy into it every week so its REALLY tasty by Xmas time. I hate brandy but it does make the cake taste yummy.... Then you cover the cake in marzipan on 23rd or so, leave it to dry and then ice with royal icing the next day, but this year we're going to have to leave that off as it uses eggs. Not much hardship for me as thats my least favourite part....

Pistachio, I would swear by Epaderm emollient myself, it comes in a huge 500g tub and is sort of the consistency of lard, but works wonders for ds. Always worth a try? If you have to go down the steroids route Hydrocortisone 1% is the one we use most of the time, increasing to Eumovate when his eczema is really bad.

On that note, we had our meeting with the paediatrician today and she agreed with me that there is no point in cutting out everything out of M's diet just to eradicate the small amount of eczema that he still has. So he only has to avoid milk, nuts eggs and soya! Still, better than cutting out fish, tomatoes and wheat as well. M was really taken with her - he trotted over for a cuddle at the end bless him

aubergenie · 02/12/2009 07:11

Great news about the scan CSWS. Aww, bless your dd. It's a lot to take in isn't it.

50ft - Good to hear that you've got a diagnosis, although obviously it's not great news. Is it the surgery that causes it? I wondered because the only other younger person I know with a hernia has had 3 C sections.

Also, well done for following up with that woman. I didn't realise you knew who she was. I definitely think you'd be doing the right thing by mentioning it to the school. They'll have to make a note of it and it will help them form a fuller picture if they have any other concerns.

Myjob - I hope N's bum clears up soon.

I'm really tired today. We went to the O2 last night to see the some of the children from our year sing in the Young Voices concert. It was absolutely amazing - more than 8000 children singing together. Brought a tear to my eye...

I love Christmas cake - but it has to be really rich and full of booze [lush emoticon].

ronshar · 02/12/2009 09:37

I really hate dead flies. They are all squishy and get stuck in your teeth.
Star stay away from the xmas cakes. You can sink a small boat they are so heavy,
Pistachio, I too had my smear yesterday. I now have cervix envy as the nurse didnt say my cervix was lovely. She had to root about trying to find the damn thing. Lucky she is an midwife as well as a practice nurse so she knows all the tricks.

CSWS brilliant news about your scan. Just the one, thats a relief. 2-4 children in one go is a bit extreme

Myjob, W bottom has been really sore. So much that every time I lay him down to change him he screamed and wouldnt stay still. It has cleared up now. I noticed that he has about 4 teeth just coming through his gums.

50ft, W has an umbilical hernia. Luckily it is just about too small to need fixing. Hopefully he wont need it doing. Go back to the consultant in brighton when he is three. My nephew has an inguinal one which he has to have fixed this month he is only 4. So not just old men. If that makes you feel any better
Maybe you should ask for a tummy tuck at the same time. I would like one of those!

W has dissapeared into the kitchen. bad news now he can climb up onto the worktops and open all the cupboards.

50ftQueenie · 02/12/2009 09:39

I think that my muscles never went back together after I was pregnant with DS as I have had a weird bulge in my belly since he was born. I think that where I had that massive cyst and couldn't do any stomach exercises very effectively (the bloody thing got in the way) it got worse, weaker and then.... pop! They tend to happen when your stomach muscles are weak so three c-sections would fall into that category. The concert sounds lovely! Bet it made you feel very Christmasy, there is something very festive about children singing. The pictures look amazing.

CSWS - Have you outed yourself on FB by accident? That is so cute of dd. When we told DS about M he cried because he thought she would eat all of his cereal. He also got very embarrassed of me and my big tummy. He didn't understand and got concerned that people would laugh at me!

Pistachio - Take it as a complement. It must look perky and healthy!

DS made me feel a bit sad today. His aunt came to visit from the US last week. We were chatting about her coming home in a couple of years & DS told me he wants his uncle (my brother) to come home instead because "Uncle still likes me but Auntie * likes M better than me." Poor little fella. Uncle ** only went to the States a couple of weeks ago and is back for Christmas so it won't be too long!

50ftQueenie · 02/12/2009 09:44

Thank you for trying to make me feel better about my old man's condition! To be honest it is a massive relief as I was worried that my stomach would be all lumpy forever! But it seems that it is lumpy due to a hernia. Phew!

Arghhhhhh!!! M is scavenging biscuits AGAIN! They were put away but she's found them! I give up.....

StarExpat · 02/12/2009 09:59

Does tesco/sainsburys/waitrose sell humzingers?
I want to try some! For Q of course...

Are your cupboards really low 50ft? Q can't get into food cupboards unless he's on the counter.

I'm not doing a christmas cake. I have decided that it looks really disgusting.

DH keeps giving Q raisins. I'm like a psycho mom brushing his teeth like crazy afterward.

ronshar · 02/12/2009 10:12

Star Sainsburys do a lunch box range which have bars which W loves. They are in the dried fruit section.
My girls dont like humzingers very much. Only H & W like friut bars anyway. G is a bit of a fruit dodger, oh and vegetable dodger, oh and meat dodger, oh and washing dodger, oh and helping round the house dodger. She likes avoiding lots of things generally, but not the shopping trip into town after school today she insisted on

Star I dont want to scare you but this has been going on from about mmmmmm let me think, birth.
It only gets worse when they decide they have their own opinions about stuff and you find yourself being out argued/disscused by a far more intelligent 6 year old!! You have a boy so it will be different. You will be asking him why he had to throw the cricket, football, rugby ball through the window. All the time fetching dirty socks out from under his bed.

50ftQueenie · 02/12/2009 10:56

Myjob - DS ate his own body weight in raisins when he was a toddler, plus he would only drink juice (after Nana kindly gave him some apple juice). He still has all his baby teeth, they are rock solid and the dentist said he has perfect teeth. Plus, terrible mother that I am, he only went to the dentist for the first time when he was at school! His teeth were always great so I had no concerns. M has raisins and humzingers but I do limit her to a portion a day. Mainly because dried fruit does horrible things to her bottom!

Star - Our kitchen is tiny so we have to put some food in the low cupboards. We usually only have dried fruit in them so if M does get into the cupboards she won't be swiping something she shouldn't have. The biscuits were actually hidden behind the sofa but she sniffed them out.

Ronshar - W climbing ability is now legendary and whenever M tries to escape from impossible things we say to her "who do you think you are? W?" G sounds like me at age 13, I hope for your sake she isn't anything like me. I was EVIL!

50ftQueenie · 02/12/2009 10:59

Ronshar is right Star. Boys do strange things that they know are going to get them in trouble but can't seem to resist. DH is the same. M has already learned to run away and hide if she's doing something naughty. If she gets caught she rubs her hands together in a sort of "washing her hands of it"/it wasn't me gesture. Crafty minx.
