Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

50ft - I've been pondering on this one too, so I looked it up and found this article and this. So yes, there is one law for adults and another for children.

It's all about whether it leaves a mark (ridiculous because it doesn't take into account children with very dark skin where marks may not show), and what consitutes "reasonable" chastisement.

Very very sad for those children. It's obviously something that happens a lot if she didn't react.

Anyway, must go to work.

StarExpat · 01/12/2009 10:21

so screwed up that different rules apply for assault to children than adults! What a messed up world we live in.

StarExpat · 01/12/2009 10:23

pistachio btw love that fb photo They are just so adorable at this age, aren't they??? I could gobble Q up!

50ftQueenie · 01/12/2009 10:30

They are adorable Star, but alas not so adorable at 2 in the morning when they are screaming the house down in a huge temper tantrum because you won't let them sleep in your bed.

ronshar · 01/12/2009 11:02

Sorry ladies had a really busy weekend. Sleepover for 5 10 year old girls, not to be recomended
Star are you ovulating? That could explain the pain.
50ft, Sounds like a Hernia as Pistachio said. Get your ass down the docs in case it is something else. Two open abdo surgeries remember!!!!!
CSWS. Ouch, Ouch, Ouch. Nothing else I can add really. Laser surgery is marvelous so I would potential push for that soon if they will let you when Preg.

I am not very good with Asthma. I dont think I can add more than Ekka has already said.

Has Rachie been on recently? I know I havent been around much but I dont remember seeing her.

50ft I would phone the SS and report that foul excuse of a human being. Never any need to strike another human. Ever. If she felt it was acceptable to do that in public what is she doing at home. It sounds like she needs help to cope with three children.

W is climbing everything. I found him on top of the girls bunkbeds yesterday. Very pleased with himself he was. Every time he is told to get down he just laughs and carries on. Little pickle.

5 10 year olds! girls! I do not think I will be able to handle pre teen and teenage years.... but I thank my lucky stars that I have a boy

50ftQueenie · 01/12/2009 14:00

I spoke to the NSPCC about that woman. I am going to find out which class the older daughter is in and speak to the class teacher. If they won't do anything about it, I am going to try and find out the child's name & get back in touch with the NSPCC.

Myjob - They lady I spoke to said (unprompted, I don't want you to think I spoke to them about you!!!) that a tap on the bottom if they're doing something dangerous is totally acceptable. Hope that makes you feel better, straight from the horse's mouth. DS has had a smack on the bottom twice (from DH), it didn't help, DS hit DH back. That summed it up for me really. DS responds much more to discussion than shouting or smacking, but then that's just him.

I am about 99% sure I have got a hernia, it has got an edge to it now. &

50ftQueenie · 01/12/2009 14:03

I missed that, 5 10-year-old girls?! DH nearly expired looking after 4 6-year-old boys. I am not looking forward to having one 10 year old girl in the house.

M has been saying "Oh no" when she falls down or knocks things over and today said "wow" when I handed her a corn thin. Not the usual reaction to being given a plain corn thin!

Fabulous! I think my ds must be a girl, he cries at every opportunity. But only now he is older.

Been to the doctors. My whole stomach is pretty much a hernia! The muscles have separated and my innards are poking through. The lumpy blob that I noticed is another bit of hernia. It makes me feel much better as I was wondering why I still had a huge misshapen belly. At least now I know why. Dr said the dizziness is sleep depravation & dehydration. I love the doctor at the "walking" centre, he's fabulous!

DS was off school today with an ear ache (which turned out to be a very mild infection). Ear ache my arse, he has been a complete pain all day. He's not getting another day off sick unless he's at death's door!

They will refer me for a non urgent op. It's not a problem unless the bowel get strangulated (mmmm pleasant) and then it is an emergency. Apparently I would know about it if that did happen!

I think for Christmas I would like some good luck regarding my health! I really don't fancy another abdominal operation. If this carries on, I'm going to look like Sally the rag doll in a Nightmare Before Christmas!

Ooo ouch! Poor N. M had a blistered bottom and girl bits when she had cows milk. Has N eaten anything different, any citrus fruit or do you suspect teeth? Her poor leg!

Oh, Poor N. Don't know what to suggest... you know what I would do and you've already suggested it.
Agree with 50ft that it must be a reaction to a food or drink that might be new to her? Sounds horrible.

Glad you got your tummy looked at 50ft. Ouch for the hernia.

CSWS how are you doing today?

StarExpat · 01/12/2009 20:05

Does everyone make a "christmas cake" and if you do, what is it? Is it the same type of thing or just a cake that you are going to decorate red and green? I've heard lots of references to christmas cake lately on MN. I've seen some in the shop and they look like brown bread with raisins in it.

50ftQueenie · 01/12/2009 20:10

Christmas cake is a fruit cake Star (yuck yuck super yuck!) I am making a Red Velvet cakes this year as it looks festive and hasn't got dead flies dried fruit in it. The hernia doesn't hurt, but it does make me feel like an old man, as only old men get hernias.

50ftQueenie · 01/12/2009 20:12

Pistachio - Try Aveeno. M has eczema on her ankles and behind her knees. The backs of the knees seems to be the last place for it disappear from, DS still get a tiny tiny bit behind his knees when we first put he heating on!

StarExpat · 01/12/2009 20:16

Try elidel pistachio. You have to get it on perscription but it's steroid free, made for children. I used it as an adult and it worked just as well as the steroid cream (fucibet). I always recommend it because it's just so amazing!
A friend of mine used it on her DS as well when he was about 15 months and another with her 18 month old and cleared both right up I think they say the child needs to be 2 years old, but can't see why. Worth a try if you're interested.

StarExpat · 01/12/2009 20:21

Oh yes aveeno is good too. Or the cocoa butter cream. Oilatum Jr cream is really good too, though - but you've tried that I see. If it gets quite cracked and bad, try putting the oilatum jr cream or whichever cream on it then vaseline over that and wrap his knee in plastic wrap (wrap around several times, not too tight, then tape the end or something) and leave this on under his sleeper overnight. It will help to soften it and heal it overnight. Then air it out in the morning of course.

50ft lol my dad had a hernia! he's the only one I've known until you. That made me laugh because I didn't think of it until you said the old man thing!

KSal · 01/12/2009 20:22

pistachio, i would recommend Aveeno cream for the eczema patches. Emma has it on and off (in her elbow creases, if she gets run down) and this really seems to work. Boots have it, its oat based. I have found it works better than sudocrem, so may be worth a go before trying steroids.

50ft sorry to hear about your tummy ad well done for following up about that woman.

CSWS, hope your pain relief is working

myjob... ouch for poor N's bum :-(

and everyone else, i have been trying to catch up!

Star, i made a christmas cake at the weekend, its basically a fruit cake decorated with marzipan and icing (actually very much like a traditional british wedding cake). The ones i have seen are white, probably with a snow man or christmas tree stuck on the top. I haven't decorated mine yet... but if you are going to make one its best to do it soon as apparently they are better if you let them mature a bit. Bizarrely my DH likes to eat chritmas cake with cheddar... freak!
