oh I got the name. lol.
I was trying to say it like you would, but still should have gotten it!
Where do you buy humzingers?
Wow to all the weight gain N! Congrats!!

yummy for all the food, pistachio.
I hope it helped you sleep well!

50ftQueenie · 30/11/2009 09:42

Morning. Still feel dizzy this morning but not as bad. I have decided that it must be linked to my periods as I felt like this on holiday too. It appears to happen on the last day of my period so maybe it's anemia. I will get some iron and see if it helps .

We had a rubbish night last night. M wouldn't go back into her cot, I think she was cold, so ended up in with me and slept through from 2 until 7!

Star has got me thinking about Christmas decorations. What do you put up, in addition to the tree? I usually have things dotted around but in their usual places, they will all be within M's reach. We usually have a real tree so won't put it up until much nearer Christmas but I would like to do something else beforehand. So, what are you doing ladies?

StarExpat · 30/11/2009 10:09

We were given an artificial tree (friends who had gotten a new/bigger one decided to give this one away - it's about my height, so perfect for our little place ). DH wanted a potted tree again, I just couldn't face hoovering needles every single day and Q reaching out and grabbing the branches and hurting himself repeatedly.
He grabs the branches on this tree and doesn't get hurt. We placed some easy on / off ornaments on the bottom branches and he plays with those. We also anchored the tree down really well so it won't topple over.

I'm really into stars.... lol if you hadn't guessed. So we have these pretty wooden stars and wicker stars with chirstmas-y ribbon hung on the windows. We have a few snowmen, bells...etc. that we just placed a bit higher than usual this year. We don't put out too much because we don't like clutter and all ornaments are wooden, painted wood or wicker, lights are clear and only on the tree, some glittery snowy-covered fake pine plants that look real... it all looks sparkly but natural iyswim (well DH owuld say it's NOT natural this year since the tree is artificial... but I'm LOVING the fake tree and it looks so real to me!!). I love it, as does DH but it's far from the winter wonderland you see in most places.

StarExpat · 30/11/2009 12:48

I just want to say that I love my baby so much! I love everything about him and I could just hold and cuddle him forever and ever. I can't believe how quickly he's growing into a little person and understanding what we say, following instructions, it's all totally amazing!

This morning, DH took off a pair of socks and gave them to Q and said "put them in the washing machine" and Q ran to the other room and put them in!
I told him to get his ball and he went and got it!

I love the way he looks up at us with love and trust in his eyes. It makes me want to do absolutely anything humanely possible to make him smile forever.

You truly don't know what love is until you have a child.

sorry to be gushy I just love him so much!

50ftQueenie · 30/11/2009 13:41

Thanks Pistachio. I have real trouble with iron, it doesn't agree with me and I get terrible stomach cramps. I've heard that Spatone is gentler. I suspect it is anemia, I don't eat much iron rich food and it comes on at the end of my period so it would make sense I suppose. Yay for new clothes. I have agree to stop buying M clothes until she needs 18-24 months as she currently has...... 31 dresses. Eeeek!

50ftQueenie · 30/11/2009 13:42

Oh, forgot to say, Yay for the continued weight gain Myjob! N is really catching up with M now. She's still only about 21lbs in the nude!

50ftQueenie · 30/11/2009 13:43

I also forgot to say, Star - Are you sure you're American? Your taste in Christmas decoration sounds far too subdued for an American.

StarExpat · 30/11/2009 14:32

I'm not really american, no
31 dresses?!?!?!? wow...........
Spatone is gentler than iron tabs. I highly recommend it.

50ftQueenie · 30/11/2009 15:59

I know, it's totally obscene isn't it? Eeek.

Saw something that made me feel very sad this afternoon. I was in the Co-Op near ds's school, picking up some bread for my mum. There was a woman in front of me with her two dds (I would guess ages 5 and 2.5) and a baby ds. The girls were lagging behind and getting in everyone's way, like small children do. I was waiting patiently for the smaller girl to move but she was having a bit of a temper tantrum about something so the mum had to move her. She walked up to the little girl shouted "I'm sick of you, you're going to get such a smacking when we get home" then slapped her hard round the face! She was 2.5 years old at the most! I was so shocked. I feel now that I should have said something, after all if she had smacked an adult round the face she would probably be facing charges of assault. I feel very guilty for not saying something actually, especially as DS told me that I should have shouted at the "horrible woman". I was just so shocked that I didn't know what to do.

No idea what to do re Christmas decs - tree will get pulled over, all baubles (which match - they have to!) are breakable, and we don't have many other decs.
How do you all display your Christmas cards? We have this dilemma every year.

Off to school parent's evening tonight - appointment at 8, so hopefully can get the kids to bed in time for me to get ready and there. Ds should be knackered in plenty of time, as he's only had 15 mins nap today - was asleep in car, but I woke him up moving him to pushchair (went to town to look at sofas) and he didn't go back off again at all.

myjob N is so much more clever than Q! He'll be the rough and tough rugby player and N will be tutoring him to help him pass his classes

Q is obsessed with chuggington theme song. I've played it for him on youtube several times just now because when it comes on TV he stops everything does the most hilarious dance, and does a little shout at the end it is so funny!
He can't pass any music or rhythm by without dancing. I don't know where he gets it. I play a lot of instruments, so, musical, but don't make a habit of stopping to dance at every beat available - it's hilarious!

csws - Our baubles match, too but we got non breakable ones. Having said that I haven't put them on because I don't fancy chasing them around the living room.
Q gets such a kick out of taking ornaments off and putting them back on (although he can't really put them back on well).

We put christmas cards on the window sill in the living room. They are only displayed until just after christmas otherwise it's too much clutter!
A friend of mine displays hers by tacking them up all around a door frame. I like to put photos on the refrigerator but it can look a bit messy that way.
Have fun at parent's eve csws!

50ft - That's just awful. Do some parents forget that the older ones are their precious babies, too??
at your DS for telling you that you should have shouted at the horrible woman! What a sweet boy. I hope Q is lovely like him when he's 6.

StarExpat · 30/11/2009 18:51

oh and Q only slept 1.5 hours today... I know that sounds like a lot in comparison to 15 minutes, but considering he usually sleeps 3 hours, he's so grumpy and tired!!

We email a christmas card/letter with photos I think it's a waste of paper, too. And loathe going to the post office for anything.

pepperrabbit · 30/11/2009 20:16

DS1 has just informed me that "georgia's mum has had a baby, one of those brown ones".
especially as I know both Georgia's mum and dad .
The trouble is, I don't want to make an Issue, or especially draw attention IYSWIM. But it's not true.....
But they do just say things as they see them, very awkward.... even though he has a fairly mixed class of all shapes, sizes and colours!

Honeymoonmummy · 30/11/2009 21:19

Hey all, god 50ft, how awful, I was really shocked when I read that. The only thing I could think you could do is report it to the police/ social services and hope the coop got a video of it, perhaps if she's that violent someone in social services will recognise her?

Can anyone else who is doing secret santa go onto the FB group page please? Cheers.

aubergenie · 30/11/2009 21:25

Evening ladies, I've been away for the weekend and only had a chance to skim read but CSWS - sorry to hear you've been so poorly. And 50ft too. It does sound like it could be an anaemia-related thing. Do you have very heavy periods? You should definitely go and get your iron levels checked out.

We've had a parental extravaganza this weekend - we've been at my mum and dad's and dp's parents also came down to stay. So it was all quite full on and S had loads of attention from all his grandparents which he loved.

I've had a training day at Tate Britain today. We've been re-enacting scenes from various paintings using props provided by the education team there. It was hilarious. We're taking the kids there to kick off a huge art project in the new year. Very good fun.

50ft - What an awful woman. Sadly it's not illegal to hit a child with your hand (but it is to use an instrument like a stick or shoe). No doubt if you did say something, you'd have got a mouthful of abuse too but, at the same time, you want that child to know that not all adults think that kind of thing is acceptable don't you? It's so sad.

I'm going to put a small chistmas tree up in my classroom tomorrow and then I'm going to get the children to make paper chains. I'm quite excited.

aubergenie · 30/11/2009 21:30

Actually, I think I may have got that wrong just now. Isn't it illegal to hit if it leaves a mark but not if it doesn't? (But it's definitely illegal to hit with something - I know that because we're had to report parents who have hit their children with shoes in the playground .

Either way, it's bloody horrible and you can imagine that a lot more of that goes on behind closed doors.

50ftQueenie · 30/11/2009 21:46

If she had hit me with her hand, mark or no mark, it would have been assault so it would be odd if the same didn't apply to a child. I will have to investigate..... Hmm - I will keep an eye out for her at the school and may say something to the teacher. The most disturbing thing for me was that neither of the girls seemed overly shocked by it. DS said he would have "exploded" if I slapped him round the face. Such a drama queen my boy!

I do have heavy periods, but I am also rubbish at eating iron rich food. I had my iron checked when I had my op and it was fine at that point, but only just. As the dizziness is so linked to the end of my period I struggle to think what else it could be. I will try Spatone first then if no change, I'll go to the doctor.

I am very excited about Christmas.
