Wow Pistachio, you are renaissance woman! I've got a measly BA.

I really don't know what to do about the daytime feeds. M is currently being rocked to sleep by DH while she screams the place down because I tried to distract her from milk & wouldn't just give in. She seems worse this afternoon & is very groggy. Oh what to do. I wish they came with an instruction manual. DS was so easy going once he started walking.

Oh good, she's screaming like she's being boiled in oil!

How wonderful that you've found your "thing"! I know that something in the medical world will be my thing as it all fascinates me which is why I am heavily leaning towards midwifery again. I can do an OU course in nutrition (as it covers nutrition in pregnancy) to supplement the midwifery training. I am also going to pursue the breast-feeding counsellor course in the New Year.

I didn't give in to M in the end! DH got her to sleep, then she woke up really grumpy so we had a cuddle & then she wanted to get down and play. She seems much perkier now.

50ftQueenie · 18/11/2009 16:42

Oh forgot to say. Myjob - fluffy post arrived today. I got two Cushie Tushies, a Pop-in bamboo with night booster & a Strawberry Bambooty. Plus I got a lovely surprise..... Cheeks & Cherries gifted me an additional Bambooty because I gave them a good review! Wow!!!!

StarExpat · 18/11/2009 17:06

Lol 50ft and myjob will be the very last to utter the words potty train so they can hang onto their nappies
DH did that with courses... History medieval history then work in business then project management then finally aha, he wanted to be a teacher!
So.... Gtp now nqt.... Ugh. He already has an MA in medieval history - which he teaches now so hopefully courses will be over soon.
But he's also writing a book (historical fiction) nearly there - been working on it two years!!
I'd like to get my PhD in psychology. That WAS the next step plan pre Q.... Maybe someday I'll be able to do that!

Oooo Dr Star! I would love to do more study. Philosophy is hard to do a PhD in though as it is the oldest subject there is! Not much new ground to break! And please don't swear at me Star. Potty training......

50ftQueenie · 18/11/2009 18:02

It feels really really absorbent Myjob. It was so heavy after the wash so it's going to take ages to dry but feels like it could suck up the Atlantic Ocean! I am going to get a Weenotions with MCNN on the bottom!

I hadn't realised Gabrielle Palmer was doing a webchat Pistachio. That should be good. I started reading the Politics of Breastfeeding and it got me really angry.

DP is talking about retraining too. Trouble is, he's got no idea what to train as. He's been pondering for years and still has no clue.

I hope Q is starting to feel better now Star.

I think S must be having a growth spurt at the moment, as he's seems permanently hungry. Previously, even if he woke, he was happy to go from 7 till 7 without being fed, but the last few nights he's woken up hungry at around 4.30 -5. And I'm staggered at the amount of pasta he can consume. I think he's going to be an Italian when he grows up. Then Pistachio will have to adopt him.

StarExpat · 18/11/2009 20:10

Q is totally off pasta now. Very strange. He hardly eats anything but you wouldn't know it to look at him!
No fever today! Yay!!!!! DH home w him tomorrow for another day at home.
It's been nice to switch being home every other day so we both get to care for Q and stay on top of our work
Other people who see Q say he looks horrible and ill, but I think he looks LOADS better!
A lady in mands told me I should bring him home! We were only out 20 min!!

Aubergenie - hopefully he sorts it soon. It really frustrated and irritated me when DH was complaining constantly about how he didn't
Like his job but not come up with an alternative!!! You sound like a much more patient person than I.

Pistachio - no friends in scotland. Dh and I visited edinburgh 5 years ago while backpacking and absolutely loved it so wanted to return... And with Q not having the visa stamp in his psspt yet I'm not confident about leaving the country...

StarExpat · 18/11/2009 20:14

We also did visit glasgow and darlington (I think that's what it was called?)
Perhaps we could venture over to glasgow one of the days if we do go!

ronshar · 18/11/2009 20:38

Stop talking about nappies

Wow pistachio you are beautiful and clever.

Star isnt Q automatically a British passport holder?

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/11/2009 20:42

I haven't read her book, so have nothing intelligent or pertinent to ask.

Did I tell you I've been to Glasgow for work before Pistachio? I used to be the brand finance manager for Haddows.

D likes pasta bolognese too.
Although this week he mostly just likes mummy milk. He's given up after a couple of mouthfuls of lunch the last few days and had milk instead. Poor lamb has at least 2 big bumps where his molars are trying to come through.
I put him down in his cot for a nap after his milky lunch today, and he settled himself to sleep in about 3 minutes, and slept for 2 hours 20 mins. I went to bed for 2 hours of that, and really didn't want to get up after that! Still feel in need of an early night, but waiting for dh to get off phone so that we can watch an episode of House first.

D is starting to walk a bit more now, but still some way to go.

M is still up. My family were round for my brother's 30th and to say Bon Voyage as he's off to the States on Friday morning. So M is now wired and won't go to bed. Hrumph! M seems to like Mexican food best.

Lots of news coverage of MN tonight. Very exciting.
I have posted a question for DC tomorrow so I shall see if I get an answer this time

Myjob sounds like you have got it all worked out. The Government do have different grants avaliable for returning to study. Make sure you check it out.

StarExpat · 19/11/2009 07:55

No, Q is not automatically a british passport holder. He has a US passport. I have to pay a lot of money to get him "on my visa" so I'm thinking I'll just wait until next year when we get Indefinite leave to remain and he'll automatically join me as my dependant on that. I just can't believe they charge so much to put your baby on your visa with you (who was born IN the country of that work visa!)

50ft - so weird. I have 2 friends who did PhD's in philosophy. Lots of endless hours of writing and reading. They are now professors of philosophy at universities. It wouldn't have kept my interest for the 4 years. But to each their own.

Dh is home with Q. Q is looking much happier today. Still coughing loads but no more fever and he was ecstatic to realize that Dh was staying home with him!

i had the best substitute teacher yesterday. Everything was done, she wrote a very detailed report for me and my classroom is still clean, tidy and organized. If I ever have to be out again, I'm requesting her!

50ft - wow to M being up so late! I would have just put Q in his cot anyway as by a certain hour I get too tired to fight a bedtime

myjob - you have a very organized plan! Good for you! How old is reception? is that like preschool (american terms) like age 4/5? Or is it Kindergarten - age 5/6?

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/11/2009 08:37

Gah - poorly baby today. Bed full of sick when we got up this morning.

StarExpat · 19/11/2009 08:47

Oh no csws
Poor D and poor you! Sleeping in sick not nice and cleaning up sick also not nice.
I hope he feels better soon.
