Hi all,

Just a quick one but Poppy took two little solo steps this afternoon for the first time

Thanks Ronshar, I'll look at that Mood Mapping thing.

50ft - £22k a month??? Jesus, I'm in the wrong financial sector!! But I couldn't stand to do a sales job either.

Re the bottle/ cup thing, a HV told me it was best to stop the bottle for their teeth, not sure why but she said it was for people who were using the bottle all the time, for water etc, not just at night. Re a cup, does anyone know a good cup that comes out as slowly as a Dr Brown's bottle? I seem to remember you Star mentioning one a few weeks ago?

We didn't go to Wales in the end as Poppy had us up for about 2 hours in the night AFTER I'd not even slept by 3am due to the heartburn. Needless to say, neither of us were in the mood to drive to Wales...

I went to a primary school open day today I know it's early but they only have one once a year and if we move house I want to know which school she'll be going to. I went to the other candidate last week. the one today was LOVELY, sooo nice. They have a twinning system with an Italian school and go on exchange trips, and have a totem pole in the playground where children can go if they have noone to play with and the teacher will get them and make sure they have someone to play with. I definitely want her to go to this one and it seems highly likely we can get her in there as she's christened Catholic so I'm a happy bunny

ronshar · 17/11/2009 22:33

Just wanted to check Q was ok. Poor little boy. Star be careful where you use the T word. It is a mixture of an ok word and a word I would never use in a million years.

We dont have alot of money either. DH changed jobs last year and until he has finished his plumbing gas safe stuff we are skint.

I have checked out the Open University course for Social Work degree. Doesnt look to hard and I can transfer my Nursing Uni points over!! Still not sure though.
Pistachio how do you cope with both babies and study?

Honeymoonmummy · 17/11/2009 22:35

Oh and ha ha ha re twunt!!! CSWS, I hope that will be in the next thread title...

Star, I hope Q feels better soon and you get some rest x

I didn't know you COULD put the names down from birth. I gave them Poppy's name today but just assumed it was so they could keep in touch with us... she did say tho (touch wood) we were virtually guaranteed a place because of our geographical location and religion. Their results are really good too and they had an outstanding ofsted report (I know, I know) Most importantly, I just loved the look of the place.

Pistachio - Ooooo that game sounds very interesting. Are you enjoying your studies? It sounds incredibly in-depth & hard work! I was meaning to ask, what is your masters in?

Ronshar - I have the social worker information pack sat in the kitchen by the recycling bin but I think I am too much of a wuss to seriously consider that line of work. You on the other hand would be fabulous! I really want to be a dietician but I would have to go to University in London for four years full time and then do extra training! It is too much to manage with children, plus we'd have to find money for fees and travel. Ah well..... Maybe I should have done a useful degree instead of navel gazing philosophy!

Star - Poor Q and poor you having to deal with such idiot doctors. At least you have something that is helping him. That must be a huge relief to you all. Hope he feels much better in he morning.

Aubergenie - at S hiding things. DS used to hide things and occasionally still does but M just tries to eat things. BTW I just knew you'd be a Camper wearer!

Myjob - Hope ds goes back to bed and stays there! My ds came down tonight to get a couple of soft toys and started questioning me about Eastenders. BTW, I managed to keep M off the boob all day today through a combination of distraction, giving her oat milk and taking her out for walks.

I wish I'd not mentioned that bloody bonus amount, I wasn't showing off. We are totally brassic, honest guv! Seriously, the guy who earns that level of bonus works about 15 hours a day, 7 days a week. He has had some of his work taken away from him as his boss is getting really worried about him.

Honeymoonmummy · 17/11/2009 23:07

Well done on keeping M off the boob 50ft! I'm trying to not let Poppy feed in the day but she's such a boob monster, I gave in today after she started screaming AFTER she'd had her lunch AND half a cup of warmed milk. I think it's cos she falls asleep easily doing that, she's still not self soothing, she usually cries (albeit usually only for a few mins) in my or DH's arms if we have to get her to sleep without BF. What's that expression about rods and backs again?

Honeymoonmummy · 17/11/2009 23:07

Right, I'm supposed to be relaxing and reading a book before I go to sleep and instead I've been surfing for an hour. I'm off!

50ftQueenie · 17/11/2009 23:12

I believe it is - Hello Mr Rod, allow me to introduce you to my back. And I was thinking the exact same thing last night while M was snoring away in bed next to me! Ooops!

aubergenie · 18/11/2009 07:12

Ronshar - My sister's a social worker. She's a very no nonsense type, but in a caring sort of way. I've not met you, but from the way you seem on here I reckon you'd be good at it too. Having said that, we were chatting the other day and she said that if she had her time again, she wouldn't go into social work. She'd rather have done something a bit more glamorous.

Star - So glad Q's got some medication. Bloody stupid doctors though. If they're telling you not to come in when it's a serious condition, I bet there'll be other people who aren't as clued up as you who take them at their word and whose children don't get seen at all.

Someone on my road has had their Christmas decs up since early last week. A tad previous, don't you think?

StarExpat · 18/11/2009 08:19

We might be going to scotland just before or after xmas edinburgh likely. Is that close to you, pistachio?
Going to google twunt.
Well done keeping M off the breast 50ft
Ronshar you'd be an amazing social worker!
Pistachio maybe we could all do a virtual version of your card game on fb?
I'm home w/ Q. Tbh it's much better at home caring for him than at school looking after 16 other kids with colds and flu

StarExpat · 18/11/2009 08:31

Hmm that's FAB news that you'll be able to get into a good school!
I have to admit I'm a bit, well incredibly that religion plays a factor in public free education here.
[Shock] just so strange to me!! But, as a foreigner I don't really have a position to say anything about it so I'll shut up now.
Just
But hmm that isn't to say anything to you. I think that's great for you and poppy!!!!

50ftQueenie · 18/11/2009 09:09

You sound much happier today Star. Hope Q is feeling better today, I am sure he will be feeling lots better for just having his mummy with him.

Right, I have a quick question...... M is under the weather today, only a cold but she's hot & feeling a little sorry for herself. So, do I fight to keep her off the boob or do I let her bfed as much as she wants? She had a fair bit of food for breakfast so she's not off her grub. I don't think we'll be going out for a walk today unless the weather improves, we'd get blown away!

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/11/2009 12:16

Well I'm a softie so I'd feed when poorly.

OP posts:
KSal · 18/11/2009 12:38

50ft, i'll preface this with 'I'm a bottle feeder', but if i had that means of comforting Emma when she was ill I would use it. Just as i let her nap on me and sleep in my bed when she's ill but not usually at other times.

(I sound a bit military regime and mean!!!)

ronshar · 18/11/2009 13:06

50ft. I will say just this. Either you feed during the day or you dont. Is it comfort you want to give or sustanence(sp). I think you will be confusing M if one day you feed then the next you refuse. Try lots of cuddles and gentle distraction instead. I am still morning feeding because I am too much of a wuss to give it up
Where did you get your social work info pack from? I'm gonna get me one.

Star good that Q is better. By the way Twunt is a MN word just look through the archive here. It is twat and c**t. Told you it wasnt nice

Aubergenie, I dont think I am cut out for glamour. I thought the ambulance service was going to be exciting. Not a chance boring one minute, abuse being thrown at you the next! Nursing is no better. I do like a uniform though.

50ftQueenie · 18/11/2009 13:22

See that is exactly what I was thinking Ronshar, the confusing her element. She's not eaten much lunch and is very snotty. But I am a big softy like CSWS and feel so mean when she's covering me in snot trying to burrow into me. Argggghhhhhh! It's all so tricky. I did feed her at around 11 as that is nap time and she really needed a nap. I think milk in a cup and cuddles for the rest of the day until bed time. I don't think that will be too confusing for her. I got the info from the website Be the difference.

This parenting lark is tricky isn't it? DS was a breeze by this age (and at nursery so that's probably why it seems so much harder ).
