As I accidentally filled up the old thread I thought I'd better start a new one

OP posts:

Beans: glad DD is better. I always find I have to skip dairy for a week or so after one of the DSs has a tummy bug.

PD: glad you have a hol booked

Veggie: v envious of you trotting around Europe. I visited Cologne to do the Xmas markets a few years back and loved it. My friend still hasn't forgiven me for dragging her all the way up the tower of the cathedral! I was also v impressed by the brauhauses (we found a lovely back street non-toursity one, can't remember what it was called so not much help) and the quality of the beer.

Trace: when do you get the blood test results back? Hope thing are settling down for you lovey

Am heading off shortly, work is mad busy at thew moment so no time for more I'm afraid...

Just typed an enourmous post and lost the lot as I am having power supply problems to the laptop.

I will summarize as it was massive and now I cant remember!

Beans - I heard that you show faster the 2nd time? Maybe that's true
Katie - thanks for the update - nothing here either, did the dress arrive?
Kayz- glad you had a nice time, sorry about the crap weather.
Sybil - nice to hear from you more these days! Hope you can make a babies birthday get together we might have in Dec? if not I would love to swing by so we should arrange something as I kind of know where you are.
Lady - are you moving into the house or doing some work first? Sounds like it is quite the diy dream!
PD - nice to hear from you - have no advice on that destination but i'm betting you'll have a great birthday!

Well finally got ds's door fixed to close properley and he didn't wake until 0830! he then ate scrambled eggs, toast, yogurt and a cup of milk for brekky!! Now he has had some milk and is playing quietly.... however he normally has a nap at 10-ish and no sign of needing that but i've put him in the cot and he's giggling away!

katie - Just this week i've added a bit of cows milk to his formula and he always has a cup of cows milk with his breakfast to ease him into it. he is 1 in about 3 weeks. my friend introduced it fully at about 2 weeks before her ds's 1st birthday. Not sure it matters give or take a week or 2?

last night dh decided to make a curry from scratch ala Gordon Ramsay style. Apparently he can't read recipes and put 2 tablespoons of chilli powder along with the fresh chilli instead of half a teaspoon My glass of red cheerfulness turned into tasting like ribena!! I'm not off the hook though either - I decided to make saag paneer and accidently dropped the wooden spoon into the blender! The roof, walls, table, me... everything was covered in splattered pureed spinach - nice!! Just got that cleaned up and ds decided to vomit up his milk and totally destroy his nappy which resulte4d in a change of everything that could possibly be changed - he was even in his sleeping bag!!
Anyway, I'm sure I've forgotton loads I wrote before but better press post before computer goes again!!

daisy - I didn't get to see I'm a Celeb - was it you that watched it? I've never watched it before except for bits and pieces but since I heard Katie Price is going in, I'm all interested now and since I'm a reality TV junkie.... Best get that one on series link too

Oh that's right - Veggie I did chuckle at your willy concerns - never had the chance to really compare so never really given ds's much thought, however I'll bet the tofu during BF will have no effect on it.... I'm sure it will all be ion proportion soon - maybe at the next meet up we can do a strategically times nappy change to check them both out

Oh and ds stood no hands last night for about 10 seconds!! he was so proud of himself!!

Rubena · 16/11/2009 11:18

"timed" nappy change I mean - aah I need a coffee!!

katie3677 · 16/11/2009 14:32

The dress has arrived at last, but I'm not at all happy with it. It doesn't fit around my boobs at all so will need taking in, and is really quite short at the front, which I am not sure is appropriate at my age! Also, even if I wear it to this ball on Saturday I can't see myself wearing it ever again so seems like a complete waste of money. I'm thinking about telling the sellers that it didn't arrive in time and I therefore want a refund, would that be really naughty?

Veggiemummy · 16/11/2009 19:35

Hi ladies. I read up on todays posts earlier and am finally adding a post now but am tired++ so can't remember what I read.

I do remember that PD's made me giggle. I love your dry sense of humour. Was also great to meet you before I left. I was thinking of you lastweek, after we'd been talking about our relaxed attitude to sterilizing baby food stuff. DS2 ended up with a lovely case of the D's. He's ok now. But am wondering which piece of crap that he ate off the floor may have caused his tummy bug. Thankfully he is redoubling his efforts to successfully match what his brother eats in a week...over one day.

Beans glad DD is better and it def does look as if DH is aware of what he is getting himself into. I guess if you can't make him rethink the timing you can at least enjoy the rock hard abs & butt he'll own.

Yes I have been sneaking peeks at friends babies willies. I don't know if it's just because I'm worried about DS2 but some of those cheeky little monkies my friends gave birth to have well big ones. Right I think I should stop looking. You have all made me feel better about my sons future success in relationships so I'll leave him to get on with it.

Effie tick yes to Brauhauses and a big tick to beer. My niece even took a photo of me drinking a beer in the brauhaus to show our family the authentic German things we were doing. She also took photos of her sausages.

We had a nice time in Amsterdam my niece went to the Anne frank house and we had a boat trip and wander around some markets. Highlight of the day though was apple tarts!!!! Yyyyyaaaaarrmmmmmyyyyy. However, I have decided I need to start eating a little more responsibly, I've been eating like I'm on holidays and that is not going to be good for me. I'll be growing like Beans.

Veggiemummy · 16/11/2009 19:36

Oh and Katie be naughty!

spotofcheerfulness · 16/11/2009 21:03

hi there, found you! So glad this thread is still going strong and I am so impressed at those who are still posting regularly. I am crap I know . Thanks for asking after me, Veggie.

Still getting used to being in a totally new town, things weren't made easy at first by almost constant illness (by one or more of us) but we're getting some furniture delivered at the weekend so should be able to stop living out of boxes soon.

Went to Tenerife last week for what was meant to be a celebration of DP basically working 24/7 since he got here but it was awful. Proper, Watchdog style, move us or we sue, filthy heath hazard. . Then when we were moved, we all got ill. Oh well, made us appreciate coming home, storms and all.

I have actually read the whole thread (for once) but as I didn't take notes, I can only remember the following:

Trace, so sorry things are so hard for you at the moment, you have been so supportive to us all (and me), esp when I was diagnosed with PND, and I just hope you can get some support from somewhere.

Veggie, it must be tough for DS1 and the language barrier but it sounds like he's dealing with it well. Is he going to learn dutch? Next time DP goes for more than one night I'll try and tag along as well - would be great to catch up with you.

LOL at the willies conversation. I have no idea if T measures up or not but I'm just relieved if it's not covered in poo come nappy change time (TMI, sorry).

LadyT, sorry to hear about O's separation anxiety, we're getting a bit of that here too. Sounds like those who have more than one DC have very pragmatic advice (i.e there's not much that can be done about it) but it doesn't make it any easier (nor the guilt).

oh, there was loads more I was going to write but if I don't press post now I'll never get round to it. Night all.

Beans33 · 17/11/2009 09:04

Veggie - another thought on the little willie front - perhaps if you are worried when he gets older, you could teach him to breathe through his ears for the ladies - or at least hold his breath for a very long time - hee hee hee!

I'm only joking - my nephew had a teeny tiny willy til he was about 3, but now he's 7, it's a perfectly normal size - totally in proportion to the rest of him.

Katie - definitely send the dress back. I would. You can always hire one from someone else?

x

Beans33 · 17/11/2009 09:08

PS Total rage this morning when DH put something in the bin and said "oh dear, this needs emptying". What the hell does he think I am? Some kind of skivvy???

LadyThompson · 17/11/2009 14:06

Hello girls

This is just to mark the spot. I am, cough, cheerful at 14.03 - a spot of genuine cheerfulness in a proper flute and everything - as I have finally finished my book. I say finished it - I have got to type it up yet and it's only a first draft AND ANYWAY it might be a pile of poo, but hey, I've done it. So I will do my various chores and be back on properly later. Yay!

poisondwarf · 17/11/2009 14:09

Sounds like DH needs a bit of time out on the naughty step Beans. Oh and my belly was much bigger 2nd time round (although unlike you I never lost it all between pgs - think it is a permanent fixture now). I am absolutely dreading going back to work as well. I remember from the antenatal threads that you like a good whinge about work - I always thought of you as my work soulmate . Spoke to my new boss on the phone last week and he sounds like the horrible thuggish one who does the interview rounds on the Apprentice. Gee, can't wait. Hopefully I'll be able to post from work so we can whine together.

spot good to hear from you. Still haven't made it down to Brighton and it's looking increasingly unlikely that I'll get my arse into gear before going back to work. Will let you know if I do though.

Well done to Rube's DS on the standing.

In case I don't get the chance to post before I get back from my hols on 29th, a massive HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Harry, Frieda, Octavia and Nancy.

Was going to write more but have to head out now.

LadyThompson · 17/11/2009 14:46

Just nipping back on. The plumber has come to fix the loo and I am somewhat ashamed as the house is a pig sty, DP is still in his pyjama bottoms, we have full glasses of champagne and 'La Traviata' is booming out on the dvd player. It must just look like a madhouse. Thanks PD! And I am going to ask my Mum about Lanzarote as she is a fan.

I am excited about Egypt but I have to admit I am wistful that I will miss 'I'm a Celebrity' next week whilst I am away. I am appreciate this does not make me sound very good but I have never censored myself on here and I am not about to start now

More later.

LadyThompson · 17/11/2009 14:46

Oh and LOVED looking at the list....awwwww.

TheInvisibleHand · 17/11/2009 15:31

Congratulations LadyT - a fabulous achievement! Never mind what its like, amazing to have even got it all down on paper.

And poison - thanks for posting the list, almost brought a tear to my eye seeing it all again.

Hope you both have wonderful hols and celebrations.

spot - sorry your hols turned out to be disappointing - but having a new appreciation of home is good.

Just got back from a longish lunch with a pregnant friend whose due date is almost a year to the day after mine. Funny listening to her fears and hopes and thinking how much things change in that year. Finding it hard to concentrate these days - must get on with it!

daisydora · 17/11/2009 15:55

beans My DH said something similar to me last night, needless to say we are not speaking and will not until he apologises for treating me like the hired help! (and an unpaid one at that!!!)

ladyt Hoorah for finishing the book and a double hurrah for afternoon cheerfulness When do you go toEgypt and where abouts? Sorry I know you have already said. My parents fly out on Monday!

poison Ahh that list was lovely to see. Still can't believe DS will be one a week today.

spot good to have you back but your holiday sounded a bit of a shocker! Still at least you are home now

trace How are you hon? Please give us a quick update if you are lurking

Well, one week of 'Operation Ear Plug' and I am pleased to report that I have not been in to see to DS in the night once. Although he was awake from 5.30am today, and ignoring him wasn't working so we got up. But I am so proud my little man appears to have learnt to sleep on his own - and in time for his birthday too!

Beans and Dais that is unforgivable! As far as we go in our house, during office hours the kids are my 'job' but after hours anything in the house is shared. For DH it's as much a good example to the boys as it's is sharing the housework. Do you DH's want the boys growing up thinking that women are only supposed to do menial work!

Though now speaking of DH we had a little barney today too. He only had to go into the office today to for a meeting then came home to work. But he gave us the impression that when he got back we'd go our for walk get the banking sorted and buy the boys some new toys. So we waited in for him but when he got back he had a few things to do so I said should I to out with the boys but he said he wouldn't be long. In the end he didn't finish up til 5 by which time the bank was closed. I suggested he just go play some basketball with DS1 at the park as it was DS2's dinner time but he insisted we all go to the toyshop. However we got there too late and couldn't buy anything so then DS1 cried and by the time we walked home in the dark DS2 was hungry and crying. He did atone for it by admitting he'd messed up a bit (didn't have much choice as I'd have growled if he'd said otherwise) and also found a lovely Indonesian place for takeaway tea.

However on a good note I think we have found DS1 a school. I've been having some wobbles because I have found a lot of the schools are oversubscribed and the international schools seem to be incredibly expensive, massive and have a criteria that takes kids whose parents work for certain companies. They also are based on the literacy and numeracy system that I don't like. I really wanted him to go to a Montessori school. Anyway today I spoke to a headteacher of a Montessori school which is really close to us and they are really happy to take DS1, and have no problem with him not speaking Dutch and they have a few Chinese kids so they think it would be great to have him as while he's learning Dutch he'll have them to chat to. I'm really excited about it. We are going on Thursday to meet him and have a look. After speaking to the admissions people at the big international schools and feeling a little like my child was a burden they probably couldn't take on because of the shear number of applications, to this headteacher who genuinly sounded like he wanted DS1 at his school.

I'm having another wobble about apostilling, I think I've mentioned it before, but have realized that as well as all our birth certificates have to go to all their relevant countries of origin, our marriage certificate will have to go to it's, Italy! Of well I guess I can be grateful now we didn't get married in Bermuda, kazakhstan.

Spot sorry you didn't have the relaxing holiday you wanted, can you sue? It would be great to see you, I can come up to Amsterdam and we can hang out. I found a cafe that does amazing apple pie!

Great news about the school Veggie. daisy hooray for sleeping babies!

Actually just popped on for some very quick advice. I've been given an iTouch for my birthday and am really not sure I want it (I know that sounds incredibly ungrateful but I hate people spending money on stuff I don't want or need just for the sake of getting me a present - I'd really rather they didn't). I know a few of you have mentioned them in the past - are they any good? What would I use it for? I wouldn't need it for internet at home. I already have an MP3 player which is much smaller (which I rarely use anyway) and an MP3 player on my phone. I could use it for internet when I commute to work but I can't imagine I'd be able to connect to a wifi network on the train (and I'm planning to read books anyway). So what is the point of them?

I really want to be convinced cos I feel guilty. I am just so rubbish at pretending to be pleased with gifts.

Catch up at last! DD has got back into the habit of sleeping pretty well at night, but only napping for about an hour during the day and I spend that time doing some really self-indulgent activity like the washing up, or meal planning, or laundry... She looks really tired at about 10 but going for a walk, putting her down in a dark room etc, none of the usual tricks is working so we end up pushing through and then trying for a longer nap after lunch but usually she?s up again after the hour and spends most of the afternoon rubbing her eyes... She?s started walking! 6-7 steps at a time, if I hold out a toy or a foody treat (ahem. She?s not a puppy, honest!). The trick seems to be not too far away as otherwise she thinks well, I?ll just crawl then.

Nursery didn?t go as well as we?d hoped, on the first full day I ended up going in at 1 as she didn?t have any lunch and hardly took any milk and was being ?quite unsettled? for which read doing lots of yelling... Stayed with her while she had a play and a snack then brought her home. She was pretty cross with me for leaving her ? we?re doing another bit tomorrow with me staying there just so she gets used to the place and the people, and then try her on her own again on Thurs. Her key person (what a horrid phrase) seems really lovely, and the other girls in the room were very sweet to her as well. Two of them managed to get her to sleep just by sitting in a rocking chair with her, which is frankly an absolute miracle.

And my boss has been a complete love. It?s long and complicated but basically I have to do a late shift from 4.30 til 7.15, it used to be once a week but is now pro rata ie 2 in 5 weeks because I work 2 days in 5. Because I?m doing a job share we thought it was fairer for it to be on the day of the week that the other girl does, since she?s doing them more often, and also means I get to see dd in the evening on both the days I work rather than leaving her at nursery at 8.30 and not seeing her til the next morning. BUT one of the days has ended up being her birthday. I tried to work out a swap, but nothing was going to be practical, and in the end my boss has said I mustn?t go in to work on her birthday, she?ll find someone to cover and ?baby?s first birthday is more important?

So, to try and catch up with the thread... since this may be the only post in a while!

Beans your DH doing an ironman sounds pretty tough ? is there no way he could put it off for a year or two so you have the support when the next baby is about to appear? Hope dd is all better by now, sounds like she?s on the mend.

LadyT v exciting about the new house! Have you met any locals yet, are they still turnip-munching agricultural types? That map of you and your DH?s travels sounds like a beautiful memento. It's always really heartwarming to hear about your and your DH, you speak about him with such love but without that in any way lessening how much you love your DP. It's really inspiring to see how life can go on after a loss. And on today?s news, you absolute star for finishing the book and celebrating in style! When will it be out, can we all get you to sign us copies?

Rubena/kayz re the sofa diving, I managed to teach dd to go backwards down the stairs by just repeatedly taking hold of her and putting her feet downhill whenever she?d gone up, and eventually she got the idea. Would that work with the sofa?

Rubena arrrrgh to the curry! Dear Lord, it?s amazing you?ve got any mouth left.

JB 11 teeth! Cripes. The loss of the gummy grin is sad but the new toothy ones are just as cute

Mmr ? dd will get it as soon as possible. There was never really a question for us, dh is very hot on evidence based medicine and has read lots of papers on it and can see no reason not to. Without wanting to sound harsh, if a baby is going to develop an ASD then it will do anyway, and the vaccination isn?t going to make any difference to that.

Veggie v glad you?ve got a house sorted and hurrah for finding MNers in the Hague!

Sybil I loved your comment about pesto being a food group and at you in the naughty corner for 39 minutes!

WG three cheers and then some more for Madam?s night sleeping! How absolutely brilliant and thoroughly well deserved. And fingers crossed for DH for the award!

ZJ hope you manage to reach a decision about the jobs situation. My current post I got after doing a maternity cover. I should not be saying this as it sounds completely anti-WOHM but it actually worked out really well that she didn?t come back. The initial contract was 9 months, but it was extended twice for 3 months at a time and then became a permanent post, and of course by the time of the interviews I had nearly 18 months experience which put me in a very strong position. So if you think you'd enjoy that job more, it may be worth doing as a foot on the ladder.

Daisy yay to the new job! And your GPs both sound so strong and brave.

Aub hope you?re all better now. Don?t feel bad about the shouting, as you say it was a bit of an emergency and lots of cuddles will have helped her forget. Sometimes I wonder if a little shout when they?re older helps emphasise that something is important ? eg don?t run into the road, don?t get in the way of a vomitty mummy. Have you managed to persuade DH to get out of some of that time abroad?

Trace lovely I?m so glad you?re still here, the basket is strong and we?ve all been on the inside and the outside. What a great idea for L about drawing her emotions, that?s something that would probably work for us grownups too. I have a little stash of pencils that have been snapped in two when I?ve been unable to overcome an angry feeling

PD ooooh Lanzarote get you and your sunshiny holidays! What a great way to celebrate your big birthday, will you be lounging by the pool in a bikini with garish cocktails?

Spot lovely to see you, but grrr about the spoiled holiday. Would it be cathartic to have a rant about it here so we can all go ?eeek? with you?

and hello to anyone I've missed, and how lovely to see the list of birthdays again! Time to get the celebratory hats ready I was pondering making dd a cake in the shape of Maisy mouse, but then remembered I have absolutely no talent at either baking or cake decorating. So, a 1 in icing sugar it will be!

I wish I had some bubbly cheerfulness in the fridge I fancy toasting Lady's finished book. Maybe to ensure it's success we need to have a simultaneous toast. When will it be typed up (do you mean it actually needs typing up, as in it is currently hand written?) could we organize a dec 2008 toast to your book. I'm sure that much positive cheerfulness vibes and white light would put it in good stead for a best seller list.

PD I love my itouch because of the applications I can get on it and I can check my email, facebook and MN in my hand. However, I'm feeling the limitations compared to the iPhone and wish had it now. But anyway I love it. However, for all the reasons you describe it maybe better to swap it for something else you want. Is there something else you have been thinking of?

JJ that is so nice of your boss, I hope that theme continues. Sorry about the hassles of nursery though, not easy. Her key worker sounds good though. Is she good at cuddling, as DD may end up wanting loads of cuddles. Also positive that they got her to sleep, and also that they were willing to go for an option other than just leaving her in a cot to cry.

LadyThompson · 17/11/2009 21:13

I think I am happy to let DD have the full MMR (just have to convince DP) but I feel so much more confident about it thanks to you lot?.

Thanks for the good wishes about the book, people. I have to type it up now as I write longhand, then it goes off to the agent who will probably come back with rewrites and hopefully want to submit it. He could of course say it is beyond the pale, but whatever happens to it I am just so glad to get it done. I am too well conversed in the realities of publishing to have any great hopes for it but I am just thrilled to finish?

DaisyD ? I am flying on Monday too, to Luxor! Where are your parents going? I expect they are flying from Manchester though, we are going from Gatwick. If they are going to Luxor I intend to track them down Is your granddad feeling a little better?

PD ? spoke to Mum tonight but forgot to ask her about Lanzarote. I bet you?ll have a smashing time. When is your actual birthday? It?s an ?0? isn?t it? Have a lovely lovely time. And stop cutting up rough about your iTouch, you miserable old trout I have got a crummy phone at the moment and would love a flash one.

Veggie, that sounds wonderful about the school, you must feel so relieved. But your DS1 is such a little poppet he?d fit in anywhere. As for the DS2 willy talk, I can?t comment but I think size is irrelevant until they hit puberty, isn?t it? So what it looks like now won?t have much of a bearing.

JJ ? that is so amazing about Sarah walking! And sorry about her first day at nursery ? sounds like it was a bit of a blip, though. I am pleased work are being so good to you. I am cheered to hear that there are nice employers out there!

Kayz, I need more goss about your trip to London.

Aubi ? is your DH back now? Are you feeling better? I know his trips are worky ones but when do you next get to have a hol?

Katie ? oooh, sorry about the dress. I think you should do as you say and send it back. I?m glued to I?m a Celeb, as I mentioned above.

Beans ? how is your poorly little DD now? And how are you feeling? I totally get it re: the assumptions about housework. I have lost count of the times I have screeched ?I didn?t sign up to be a HOUSEWIFE!?

Rubes, we won?t be in the house for yonks. Months. I think spring is realistic. It is all very exciting but doing it all on a very tight budget is quite a challenge?

Spot ? oh NO, sorry about Tenerife?how horrendously disappointing given that it was your treat. What happened? Still, glad to hear you are settling in to beautiful Brighton.

Trace, if you are tuning in, love to you and hope things have improved a bit.

A cheery wave to anyone I have missed. I am off to London tomorrow to kick up my heels for a couple of days. Be good!

poisondwarf · 17/11/2009 21:28

But LadyT it isn't a phone . Veggie yes I had some kind of super fabulous music system in mind but I want it to be exactly what I want so I would rather buy it for myself. And now I feel like I can't justify buying one cos I've now got this iThingy.

And yes M'Lady it is an 0 birthday. I am expecting my life to begin any day now...

Veggiemummy · 17/11/2009 21:53

PD can you take it back have you got a reciept. Wow your so young, I feel so old now.

Lady it must take ages to type that out. I'm sure you have lovely long hand but does your hand get sore with that furious writing. I bet you love nice pens.

Oh and JJ I forgot to say hooray for DD's walking (though have done on FB). That's brilliant. DS2 seems to find crawling gets him everywhere he wants fast enough at the moment (this flat is so small it doesn't take much). It funny he crawled a month and a half earlier than DS1 but DS1 had started walking by now. I'm not sure if it's the move or he is just happy crawling for now. I have to say I'm looking forward to him walking but I just love the way his little bott bott wiggles when he crawls.

I really can't believe they are all nearly one. To tell the truth I'm a little sad about it. It won't be long until he's not a baby anymore and he is my last baby. I'm really gonna miss this time. But I remember how much fun the next few years are from DS 1 so that keeps me going.

Veggiemummy · 17/11/2009 21:55

Oh and Trace if your lurking please say hello at least. I miss you.
