As I accidentally filled up the old thread I thought I'd better start a new one

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
traceface · 22/12/2009 14:08

hello. Just thought I'd nip on for a few mins while the house is quiet... DH has popped to town with the girls so I'm going to give blood in a few minutes but couldn't resist a peaceful sit down and massive bar of chocolate piece of fruit
lady hope you're feeling a little more human today.
I wanted to ask a TMI question (again!) - my whole lady area is feeling prickly and super sensitive (even hurts to wipe after a wee ). Any thoughts what that might be? I was wondering about thrush? Is that like that? Sorry to lower the tone! In fact when I was pondering whether to ask you that, I thought back a year and thought we were asking far more TMI questions than that!!!!
Right must go and donate...
see you later xxx
oh and urbane how naughty of you to open your pressie early

sybilfaulty · 22/12/2009 14:49

Huge congratulations to Invis's sister. I can't remember if they had been trying for a long time but a new baby is always welcome. My uni friend had her 4th today (!) and says she is sore, stitched and fed up. Hope the new mum euphoria kicks in soon.

Lady T, hope you are feeling better.

Daisy, your young fellow looks GORGEOUS. I also love that picture of you adn your DD. It seems odd that we know each other so well and yet many of us don't know what other posters look like. Must sort out the meeting for the london girls shortly! Hope that your DH is OK and that your Christmas is the best it can be in the circs.

Trace, well done for you for giving blood. Last time I went, I was turned away for being less than 9 months post partum, but that is sadly no longer the case. As for your lady garden, have you used anything different - shower gel, washing powder, loo roll? It sounds like an allergy rather than an internal problem from waht you have said. Can you go commando for a while to let some air get to it ? Perhaps not at the blood doning place but once you are home. Hope it gets better soon.

Hello Nolda, SL, Jump, Jolly, Kayz, Veggie and everyone else. DD1 has got her "get off the computer" face on so I'd better go. Back soon I hope.

sybilfaulty · 22/12/2009 14:50

PS Lal, i have squidged my present so many times to try to work out what it is, so you are not alone. I finally posted my SS today and realise that its wrapping may give away who it's from - eeek!

Rubena · 22/12/2009 15:32

Hello
Lady I hope you are feeling a bit better

Kiwi- DS wears a waterproof snow suit kind of thingy - it was given to him but the label says Mothercare. He has nearly outgrown it but I will have to find something else. Mind you, it's been so cold he hasn't been out on the bike for quite a while. I'm wondering if it matters if his face gets ice cold? But a baby balaclava would be silly lol

Urbane - very naughty.... mine is sitting wrapped and under the tree still! [goodmumsnetteremoticon]
Am I allowed to stay here and write about mundane pregnancy symptoms? Or should I join another AN thread as well?

Hello Nolda

Trace it doesn't sound like thrush to me - not sure what it could be though.

Daisy - tough times it sounds, but glad things are looking up.

Kayz - great present from your mum.

Hello Veggie, Sybil, SL, Jump, Jolly, Aubs, Katie, Invis, Njan, Mom, Poison, Zoe, Verso, WG and everyone else lurking - PLEASE keep it quiet, but I'm pregnant! Yay! So excited! Early days here though, so I BEG everyone not to write anything at ALL on Face Book as I have only told family and close friends for now!

SummerLightning · 22/12/2009 15:40

Oh my goodness, how exciting, congratulations Rubena!!!

I like the way you mentioned it surreptiously earlier in your post before writing it properly later on! How are you feeling?

Don't worry your secret is safe ......

Naughty naughty urbaneski re opening your pressie.

Trace, sorry I don't know what your symptoms are...but I did giggle at sybil telling you not to air your bits while giving blood! Hope it gets better soon.

Rubena · 22/12/2009 15:44

Hi SL !! Crap I don't know how that sentence got up there!!!!! I added that later at the end!! LOLOLOL I am feeling a little symptomless at the moment except v tired but I have also cut out caffiene so could be just that.... Sometimes a little nauseas but not enough to throw up!

daisydora · 22/12/2009 15:52

Woo hoo Rubena!!!!!!

That has made my day Look after yourself, I will have an extra glass of festive cheer for you

trace No idea about your sore bits but agree with summer it was funny to think of you 'airing your bits' whilst giving blood!

waitinggirl · 22/12/2009 16:14

rubes - fantastic news! the secret's safe on here! although also loved the way you mentioned it before you mentioned it, if you know what i mean.

ladyt - hope you feel better. loved SL's admonishing you to stop doing stuff.

invis - great news on your sister

daisy - glad things are slightly perking up - been thinking lots about you and your family

urbane - hilarious! drunk and opening pressies already

trace - prickly lady bits??? try drinking some cranberry juice - it might help, you never know.

can i ask a question... i am still breastfeeding madam first thing in the morning (way to get 20 mins more dozing in bed) and last thing at night. i could quite happily give up the last feed for a bottle, but if we wanted to give up the first feed, too - what routine do you all have for babies once they first wake up if you aren't bfing? how long until they get their milk etc? how do you keep/get it warm but not boiling - etc etc etc.

we have pulled the goalie, as it were, a while ago in order to open the way for number 2, and i've had about 3 periods in the last 5 months. i was thinking that maybe i should give up bfing completely to give ourselves a proper go at number 2, but (and get me for being completely lazy and selfish) don't particularly want to give up the extra dozing in bed in the mornings. what do people think? my periods were incredibly irregular and my cycles long before, but i suppose i am still being affected by bfing hormones keeping them a bit at bay. i've got a body basal thermometer to use after christmas so we can strategically time the deed to coincide with ovulation, but don't know how that is affected by bfing, too.

love to all

Rubena · 22/12/2009 16:16

hi WG - no no no no I meant to add that sentence at the end as i added it after and somehow it got put in the middle of the post!!! Really, I didn't mean to mention it half way through the post at all!!
Sorry - no help here on the BF Q but wow at the still BF!

Rubena · 22/12/2009 16:20

Oh WG I didn't read your question properley -ds has a cup of (whole)milk with his breakfast when he wakes up (about 8am) however he doesn't usuall have the whole cup so I mix the bit he doesn't drink with his porridge. He has his 3 meals a day, (about 8am, 12 noon and 5-6pm, plus he has a full Nuby cup/bottle (about 210ml) of milk 3 x a day which is mid morning, mid afternoon and before bed (about 630pm) and that see's him through until 8am

Rubena · 22/12/2009 16:22

oh and ds usually has it room temp and sometimes cold. If I do room temp, I just zap it about 30secs in microwave to take the chill off

SummerLightning · 22/12/2009 16:23

wg will your DD take milk cold? In which case you could just keep the water and powder in your room and feed there? I have to say that my DS is weird and doesn't wake up hungry. So he comes into bed with us when he wakes up anytime between 6:45 and 7:15, we bimble around, get him up. He has solid breakfast before his milk, and milk may be as late at 9am. Just to let you know what we do...probably wouldn't work for you if she is definitely hungry. Also DS has his milk cold quite happily. No advice on whether giving up completely would help you conceive though.

rubena I ended up reading the end of your post first anyway as my eyes were drawn to the smilies!!

Rubena · 22/12/2009 16:28

LOL SL --- yes it was quite a distraction wasn't it - I have been festive grinning ever since finding out!

WG, For us it was 5th month trying after no BF at all. While its certainly possible to get pregnant still BF, I think it makes it a little harder. Good luck though - can't wait for you to join Beans and I!

notjustanumber · 22/12/2009 16:28

Oh congratulations Rubena, what a fantastic Xmas present ! It is great with two Before they are born its hard to imagine life with two, and after they are born, hard to imagine it without !

Trace, doesnt sound like thrush tbh but I havent had it for years (used to get it a lot when I was on the pill in my early 20s). Perhaps a contact dermitis or something ?

LadyT hope you are better today, sounds a bit like winter vomiting. I've had it a few times and you often feel a bit fluey too, with temp and stuff. Worst should be over within 24-48 hours if its that though.

Well DS2 seems to have got over the pox, although he looks awful. He hasnt noticed them at all and he didnt scratch too much. I'm glad he had it while he was little, they look so blimmin horrible.

DH has promised to help me make a gingerbread house tonight

Beans33 · 22/12/2009 17:18

Hi All! Brilliant news Rubena - yay!

I can only be v quick as am at work and people can see my screen.

But just thought I'd let you all know that I had my scan on Friday and all is well. Due date 25th June - hurray hurrah! Haven't dared tell work yet - terrified!

Masses of love.

xxxx

Beans33 · 22/12/2009 17:18

PS MERRY XMAS TO EVERYONE AND HAPPY HOLS!

XX

Kayzr · 22/12/2009 17:29

Rub CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! I am so pleased for you!!!! Also a teeny bit jealous.

Trace hope the blood giving went well. I am too scared of needles to do that.

I am bloody fed up of this snow. It is really deep and has just turned to slush. We have about a foot of slush. It's not fun at all especially when I have to try to walk to work at half 6 in the morning and I am not awake.

Hope everyone is well.

Aubergines · 22/12/2009 17:40

Hi Everyone,

just a quickie while the kids scoff their dinner and let me have five mins of peace.

Rubena - huge congratulations!!!! I am so pleased for you. When are you due?

Beans - great news about your scan.

WG - we have been down to morning BF only for a few months. I keep it for two reasons. First and foremost I too like the extra 30 mins in bed, especially as DD2 can sometimes wake early. Second, it maintains my supply so if she gets ill, as she dud with D&V last month, I have milk to help her through. If you intend to move straight to cows milk it's hard as you have to get it from the fridge thus waking yourself completly. Formula or cartons of rice milk get around that problem but you may find madam glugs them quicker than a sleepy BF so you lose a few mins. Having said that we will have to move to full bottle feeding by the end of Jan as I have an eight day business trip then.

Trace - you sound uncomfortable! No idea what it is but hope it's short lived.

LadyT - hope you are feeling better. So excited you ate coming to Sweden too. We are leaving the kids at home which makes me even more excited.

Right, better go, I have to call Father Christmas and cancel some presents as DD1 is refusing her veg... (works everytime).

urbanewarrior · 22/12/2009 18:29

Way hey Rubes that is such fantastic news. Am absolutely delighted for you. And as njan says it's really lovely with two. I think that bit of being pregnant when hardly anyone knows is really special.

Also congratulations to you/your sister invis. 2010 babies. Brilliant. And hello Nolda. V lovely picture.

Haven't heard from Indith in a while - or PD. Hello to both of you if you're lurking. Have a mince pie (starts campaign for mince pie emoticon).

D-ish-H is late back from work again. Grrrrr. I know it's only half six, but he said he'd be back earlier and he's bringing milk so everything on pause until he gets here (children won't cooperate with bath time unless milk is close at hand).

sybilfaulty · 22/12/2009 18:36

OH Rubes, so many congratulations - what lovely news? Please do feel free to talk about pg as much as you like. I would hate to lose you to ano AN thread but obviously if you want to chat to others in the same boat.... well, we have Beans on board and I'm sure others will follow. I'd love another baby but am too old, fat and poor. Plus I think 4 would send me over the edge. Was it Snorris who had 5 girls? I don't think she has posted for w while though.

WG, I am still BF quite a lot, as this is my last baby and I love it! Plus as Aubs says it i good for when they are ill. Love your description of removing the goalkeeper. Must say, not huge amounts of action round here in that dept but perhaps I'll feel more like it over the festive season....

Trace, how was giving blood? And did you keep your pants on? Hope things settle down soon/

Bath awaits. See you anon.

sybilfaulty · 22/12/2009 18:38

By the way, is anyone still fat and fancying having a proper go at it in the New Year? am sick of post baby overhang and would love to get rid with a pal. If no takers, will have to brave the wider MN (gulp). It's scary out there.

Right, bath.

Kayzr · 22/12/2009 18:57

Sybs I am your lady!!! I am 5 stone overweight and I have decided to leave it now until January. I need to lose this weight before we have our next baby as I think it contributed to DS2 being so big when he was born.

sybilfaulty · 22/12/2009 19:33

Brill Kayz, so glad to have someone else on board. Shall we select a start date now so we can not think about it yet have a plan in place? I always find Wed a good weigh in day for me - could you bear Wed 6th Jan? We can always do it via email or on our own thread so as not to bore the others. Good news to get rid before baby 3. Cannot recommend having 3 highly enough BTW, so am really pleased someone else is going for it.

Aubs you asked ages ago about my age gap. DD1 and DD2 are 2 weeks short of 2 years apart. DD2 and DSs are 19 months apart. I am a fan of small gaps as I think it is best to get your sleepless nights, nappies, whipping your ooob out etc whilst you are still reeling from the last one. That said, ifyou have a big gap, then the big ones get to help out. My friend who had hers this morning has an 11 year old, 8 year old and 6 year old as well. She is a bit cross though as all her mummy friends who live locally have children at those ages and she doesn't want to start again on the baby circuit.

Rubes, I am so sorry but my punctuation has let me down. I meant "what lovely news!" rather than "What lovely news?" Am thrilled for you and Mr Rubena. You know where I am coming from.

Wine beckons. Til later.

PinguRocks · 22/12/2009 19:41

Hi ladies
Hope all the poorly people start to feel better soon....
Rubes big big big congratulations! Such lovely news.
On outdoor clothes, Decathlon is worth a look if there's one near to you. The website doesn't show much stuff for littlies but I can confirm that the one near me (Surrey Quays) has snowsuits a plenty for under 2s in the ski section - DD is the proud wearer of a couple!
Sybs count me in for a London ladies meet up.
WG I'm still bf first thing in the morning and last thing at night and am on period number 2. They seem to be pretty much back on track and started up again literally the week after I stopped feeding overnight and cut out a couple of the daytime feeds.
DD is also very very clingy at the moment which is worrying me a bit since she's due to start nursery in a couple of weeks but I'm hoping that blind optimism will make it all turn out okay.
I have a question for you wise ladies. Our doctors are offering the swine flu vaccine to all under 5's and I was wondering whether anyone else had had their DC vaccinated and/or what your thoughts were. The health visitor is recommending it on the basis that if DD is at nursery then she'll be coming into contact with lots of people and swine flu affects children much worse.

TheInvisibleHand · 22/12/2009 19:43

Congrats, congrats to Rubena! Baby news is always so fabulous. Its so lovely having two and we've really enjoyed having them relatively close together - definitely much to recommend it.

Thanks all for the congratulations for my sister. She does live relatively nearby in London. They haven't been trying that long, but were stressing about it a bit, so its fantastic. We're all really excited. Does sound like the morning sickness has kicked in for her so she is feeling a bit miserable at the mo - am trying to convince her to take it a bit easy. She is something of a workaholic, so I think life with children will be a bit of an adjustment and that starts now...

WG - my AF only ever restarted after I finished breast feeding. DS stopped his morning feed a couple of months ago now, entirely his choice. He isn't really much of a milk monster - now doesn't have any breakfast milk at all, just porridge. Then has mid morning bottle and mid afternoon bottle. Both times its about 6 oz but its really random what he'll drink. He might drink all of one and none of the other, or half of both, or not much of either. He does eat plenty of yoghurt though. Otherwise its lunch around 12.30 and dinner around 5.30 with random snacks between. He is quite a little imp chap though.

Daisy - you are sounding very sensible about your situation, I hope it all goes as well as possible for you. And your DS is gorgeous!

Beans - great news about scan and due date!

Syb - can I join you? I am crap at this stuff and have struggled with being a bit fat for ever, but am now depressingly bigger than have ever been, so should really have a proper go at it.
