Hi thought I'd take the bull by the horns and start a new thread. Hope the weaning was covert enough! Fire away!

Ah, Phoenix, sounds like he just wants to snuggle. I have no issues bringing all my DC's into bed if it means getting more hours of shut eye. I do anything for more sleep.

GoldPHOENIXcenseAndMyrrh · 07/12/2009 16:40

Ds1 has always come into our bed when he gets up, Noah just gets up a lot earlier than Lewis ever did . I don't mind him coming in really i'm just scared he'll get over warm.

MincePAELLA · 07/12/2009 16:43

I know what you mean about being scared of LO being in the bed. I don't really sleep when the baby is in bed. My fear is the duvet covering him.

IllHaveABABYBLUEChristmas · 07/12/2009 18:35

MissP I agree about bringing LOs to bed if it means getting more sleep. I still worry that we may pull the blankets over the babys face, so I make sure Marco is in a good spot. When he wakes for his 3am feed, he usually ends up nursing on one side, we fall asleep for 2 hours like that, then he wakes and I roll over to feed on the other side, and he may fall asleep again. If not, DH puts him back into his swing (which we have now moved bedside!). At least I get more sleep that way!

And speaking of sleep, the all night thing was just once! too bad... would have loved if that continued. He went to sleep at 9:30 after just cereal (I was 'taking a BF break' aka enjoying three a chocolate-butterscotch martini). He didnt wake up til 4am, which isnt bad. I was still passed out in a deep sleep though

Christmas finally got the tree up. Also managed some shopping over the weekend. Must make my final list of things to get. Got my biscuit list together for this weekends baking marathon. So I think I have things under control. May get stuck doing Christmas dinner and hosting Christmas eve, since my mum has just announced that she may be taking a vacation at Christmas. I was ! I hosted the last big dinner! Its her turn! Instead, she is going gallavanting with her new boyfriend! My Dad is also being an ass about it, saying he doesnt want to drive up for both the dinner and the Eve, so we should choose just one! Its a 25 minute drive, and he ONLY sees us once a month or so as it is. Do people go stupid when they hit their 50s???

MincePAELLA · 07/12/2009 19:33

Oh baby I can't think of anything worse than hosting a big dinner this year. I have never hosted Xmas as we are now on 3 DC's and our place is very small.

25m drive is not that far either. Hope you sort it out.

What kind of cookies do you make? I am going to be making some homemade goodies to dish out. I love cooking/baking (when a leisurely activity not during the witching hour that is).

DH still at work so being an online addict.

QueenFeastAtChristmas · 07/12/2009 22:10

christmas I would far rather host it that have grotty kids because of late nights and too much excitement at grandmas. I did christmas dinner here last year and it was great shame my mom wants to do it her way again this year

running I walk 3 miles a day on the school run out of necessity but running wow I would'nt have the energy! well done girl!

Alfie has had a nasty cold and took him to the docs this am as he is coughing to the point of not breathing at night. She says it's not on his chest though. Poor Alfie seems prone to these croupy sort of things.

must think about putting up the tree soon or it will be time to take it down before I have put it up!

Sorry if i've missed replying to anything as my tired head can't take it all in!

IllHaveABABYBLUEChristmas · 08/12/2009 00:09

baking I love to bake! I usually make at least 8 different items, because I have at least 16 tins to fill. I usually make a few family faves plus some new recipes... so its different every year. On my list so far this year - Toblerone Shortbread, rum balls, Kahlua balls, chocolate-dipped pecan cookies, and cranberry-orange fudge.

So I took Marco for his 4 month check up on Friday. He is 15lbs 10oz and 25.5in tall. He wasn't able to get his jabs though, because of his cough. Doc sent him for a chest x-ray and it turns out he has a respiratory infection. So now he has 2 puffers that I have to give him several times a day using an aerochamber. He screams blue murder when I put the chamber to his face. I guess the crying is good beause it helps him to breathe the meds in faster. At least he is now less raspy and wheezy and I dont have to listen to him snoring at night. Poor thing.

Looking forward to going to the gym for my run on the treadmill today, as my stress level is through the roof. Marco has been fussy all day, so he has been in my arms. DD2 is being a little brat as well... and the 2 older ones cant stop bickering at each other. Told DS1 to grab his brother out of the bouncy chair as Marco was screaming, and he had the cheek to yell at me that he was busy taking care of DD2 (when in reality he was sitting there playing with her toys and watching the tele as she sat in the next room colouring on her face!). I will be waiting at the door for DH to get home, hand him the baby, and run as fast as I can to the car before he can question my getaway plan!! LOL

hi, how is everyone? ive had ahorrrid tummy upset thing since saturday. have been being sick on and off but generally feeling constantly nauseas. it has become rather irritating being asked if im pregnant again err....NO! dont know what is wrong though. havent eatena proper meal since friday, was wondering if anytone knows how this will affect my milksupply as Bill has been getting very cross with the boob in the past 24 hours and just dont have that heavy feeling when its time for a feed, also noticed i cant feel my let down as i used to!?

baking love baking here too, will be doing some for xmas!

familyxmas mine is all tits up. my dad has decided he cant be bothered to come all the way here to see us so wants us to meet him at a mcdonalds the sat befroe xmas to swap presents NICE! as if i want to be in there on a SATURDAY near xmas! my mum has also moved in with her new bloke to a town nearly an hour away have no idea what she is doing. i know it's a bit sad but me and my sisters feel orphaned! she has taken to going and doing sll sorts with this guys 2 kids (10 and 12) but has completely forgotten my brother (12) feel so sorry for him, he lives permanently with his dad now. she also doesnt seem at all interested im my two, i feel bad as i made dp move here hours away from his family to be near mine, his parents would do anythign to see the kids regularly! my family is poop!

sleep on sunday after realising we had run out of purees, and not being able to face making any of the fart smelling stuff, i gave Bill an emergency jar we had in cupboard and he went from 6.30-til 1.30 instead of the usual up every 2 hours! tried it again last night and he did the same! is there something filling in them? would it work do you think if i put baby rice in with my pureed veg as dont want him really on those jars as they're so expensive and have been brainwashed in thinking they're toxic food by HV! he was still up every 2 hours after that, and has been awake chortling in my bed since 5!

co-sleeping i never did it with dd as she was generally a good sleeper, but then she was sleeping through by now and was such a dot she was still in moses bed at this point in our room! i do notice i dont sleep so well but id rather that than hear the sreaming wails of bill, and traipsing up and down the landing!

name have started to have proper weebles about his name! my friend is expecting a boy and was asking me what names i had for bill and i cant let go of wanting to call him Elias/Eli nn. i look at him and think he'd make a cute Eli. may just start calling him it! Especially after my sisters dp said he wanted that name if they ever have a boy!!

JetLiHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 08/12/2009 07:06

baby - hope the puffers give you and Marco some relief I think you're right that the crying will taking the meds in better. Poor little lad - he must wonder what's happening.
QueenFee - is Alfie's cough better for a damp atmosphere? Wondered about a wet towel on the radiator at night maybe? Croup is scary. Did the GP offer a steroid inhaler? I think they sometimes do and if he stops breathing with it, I imagine you're scared witless.
Co-sleeping - my fear is either her falling out of bed, or DP squishing her as he never seems quite that aware of her in the bed. So I think I'll go buy a bed guard.
Feel shite at the moment - picked up a cold from somewhere. Would give my right arm for a Lemsip but it's on the breastfeeding banned list. Sticking to paracetomol and hot rosehip cordial. Hetty doesn't have it yet thank goodness. Hoping the boob will give her a bit of immunity.
baking - anyone got one of those biscuit recipes where you make up a log of dough and then slice off what you need?
Christmas - tree is up. Cards 70% done. Shopping only about 10%. We're also messing about in the family over who is cooking and to be honest it's pissing me off. So I've decided I'm ordering in, and me, DP & Hetty are bloody well staying home by ourselves and cooking for ourselves. The rest of them can BUGGER OFF - I'm full of seasonal cheer and goodwill to all men, me!!!
piano - it's tentatively being removed Friday. HALLELUJAH!!!!!! although I'm not actually holding my breath just yet. It's probably a good job SIL will be on the other side of the world at Christmas though.
Naughty Kids - sounds like everyone is suffering a bit - my sister tells her two boys that Father Christmas watches them via the burglar alarm sensors to make sure they're being good. Works a treat

lydiatheVIRGINMARY · 08/12/2009 07:24

forgot to say baby dd was put on a nebulizer too when sheasbout 18 months, she'd scream her head off too!

IllHaveABABYBLUEChristmas · 08/12/2009 17:45

jetli LMAO at Father Christmas watching the DCs through the burglar sensors!!! LOL Must try that out on mine... course we dont HAVE ANY... so I would have to think up something equally as clever {hmm] Last year DH hung a pair of his boots out of DD1s bedroom window, and made footprints in the snow on the roof. We told her Santa had come to peek in the window and make sure whe was asleep before dropping off the prezzies. She bought it! Considering she was 10 at the time, I thought DH was very clever to have thought it up!

Oh... and congratulations on winning the piano war! Hopefully its gone soon and no one changes their mind first!

Hopefully Hetty doesn't catch your cold. DD2 just woke up with one this morning. Wonderful! Our entire family has just gotten over the last sickness, and now we will all have this one in time for Christmas! At least its not as bad as last year. DD2 was in a home Daycare last year, and was sick for months at a time. She was on the same nebulizer/puffers as Marco for almost 6 months because she kept catching things from the other children. And she was MUCH worse trying to administer them... kicking and screaming and squirming.

lydia make sure you are getting enough fluids, even if you cant eat. If you becaome dehydrated it will affect your milk supply. When I was sick, I noticed the same thing... Marco was fussy at the breast and I wasnt feeling very heavy. Just keep nursing to boost things back up again. Once I started to feel better, things went back to normal.

family christmas so the saga continues with plans for dinner/eve. My mum has now decided she will host the dinner after all (thank GOD!!), but still has not decided if she is going away for Christmas Eve yet. Its expensive to travel at this time, so she is holding out for any last minute deals. She talked to my dad and he is now showing up for both events (I would have loved to hear the lecture she gave him!!). So now I just have to contribute to the dinner, rather than cooking and cleaning house for guests. DH and I already spent all weekend doing a thorough clean which will hopefully get us through all the Christmas visitors.

sleep so just when we think we have figured out Marco, he changes course! We were clever enough to figure out that rice cereal before bed will help him sleep at least til 3am, but then he would wake every 2 hours after that. Well... turns out that my boy is not only ruled by his tummy, but his BUM as well!! He wakes up at 5am every morning, not to eat, but to have the biggest poo of the day! Usually exploding out of his nappy and all up his back! He will cry until this happens, then happily go back to sleep WITHOUT a feed! So basically I am stuck getting up whether I like it or not.

Hey christiana - hope you get some rest soon and some respite from the constant illness
Nice cake tin BTW

So far Hetty doesn't have the cold I will be very impressed by this breastfeeding lark if she escapes it altogether!! I, however, feel like shit

Hello everyone, I haven't poste din a while, been sooooo manic here with all of the Christmas excitment for the big 2 dc. they have their school play this week. Its like the west end. 4 performances, 2 matinees and 2 evening!! LOL its hilarious. They have been rehearsing all term and watching it back on dvd etc to make sur eits right...there are only 61 kids in the school so its a bit crazy. They are exhausted by it. Luckily I get to collect them early from school today so they get a bit of a break.

Jetli I have one of those log type recipes, its ace...will try to post it later. It also freezer well so you can just slice off what you want.

Sleeping, Max still waking at night despite 3 meals a day and 2 bottles of formula. God I am knackered. Its putting a bit of a strain on dh and me as we seem to have this competition going on in the mornings to see who is the most tired and has had the worse night!! Its getting me down somewhat!

Had my baby group here this am for coffee which was fun, its always good to see them all and find out how their babies are doing. It was very civilised as it made me sit down and chat insteqad of rushing around like a blue arsed fly all day!

Anyway will try to post that recipe later on. Hope you all ok xx

MincePAELLA · 09/12/2009 17:11

Hi all
Lydia are you any better? Hope the milk supply has picked up.

Christiana thank goodness DH is at home for you. Another reason mastitis can reoccur is due to the body saying "you need some rest"!

Love the cake tin. And again thanks for the cards system. It has also made us reinforce good behaviour which we seemed to have forgotten to do since LO was born.

Jetli you are luck Hetty has not been ill. All my 3 have a chesty cough. That time of year. Baby also seems to have gotten ezecma. I a bit about that. He is the 1st I have ebf for this long (nearly 23 weeks now) and he got it. Bizarre.

Baby Patchy Hi. Any fun cake/biscuit recipes pls post. x

PatchySnow · 09/12/2009 19:48

Biscuit recipe as promised!

Simple jammy biscuits:

200g self raising flour
100g caster sugar
100g butter (or marg)
1 egg lightly beaten
4tbsp jam

Heat oven to 190 degrees. Rub flour, sugar and butter until it looks like breadcrumbs (can be done in food processor) Add enough egg to bring mixture together to form a stiff dough.

Flour hands and shape the dough into a tube about 5cm in diameter. Cut into 2cm thick slices and place on a large baking sheet. Space them out as the mixture will spread when baking.

Make a small indentation in the middle of each with the end of a wooden spoon and drop a tsp of jam in the centre.
Bake for 10-15 min until slightly risen and just golden. Cool on a wire rack.

Thats one for the kiddies but the next one is a little more grown up.

Vanilla Shortbread:

325g plain flour
200g chilled salted butter
125g golden caster sugar
2tsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs

Tip the flour into food processor, cut the butter into small pieces and drop into the bowl and wizz until the mix looks like breadcrumbs. Add the sugar, vanilla and egg yolks and wizz to a smooth dough.(or do by hand)

Roll the dough on to a lightly floured surface into a sausage shape about 25 cm long and 5cm wide.

Wrap in clingfilm and chill for at least an hour. (The roll can be frozen for up to 6 weeks, to use remove from freezer and allow to thaw at room temp for 1 hour so that the dough is soft enough to slice into biscuits)

Heat oven to 180 degrees, fan 160. Lightly grease 2 large baking trays. Cut the dough into slices, each about 5mm thick. Arrange on baking sheet slightly apart.

Bake for 20 min until they are turning pale golden around the edges. Cool on a wire rack. Dust with icing sugar.

Yum! Happy baking!! xx

christiana Love that tin!!! Mmmm... all this talk of sweets is sure to add inches to my hips!! LOL. These are two new recipes I will be trying this year: Holly cookies and Chocolate Cookie Bars

MissP My DS1 also had exzema as a baby. It still flares up occasionally. Was a little too since none of us have it aside from him.

PatchySnow · 10/12/2009 13:28

Christiana poor poor you, I hope you get some positive news. Love and hugs xxx

IllHaveABABYBLUEChristmas · 10/12/2009 16:35

Christiana will keep you in my prayers. Hopefully things turn around and you feel better without the surgery... or at the very least, its something that can be put off until after the holidays. Lots of hugs xxx
