Totally agree. You did everything you could and the other mother needed to wind her neck in. And the swine flu advice line told me to take DS1 to the GP.

And she didn't have a temperature so it wasn't flu.

But what did the doc say?

bebemoo · 12/11/2009 12:11

Just a bad cold again. She said it was a good sign though that she was 'moving the mucus' as it was definitely not in her lungs. Which I'm pleased abt. I also made sure that giving calpol so much (tho not going over the daily dosage) was ok because Moo's been on it for nearly 6 weeks because of the previous cold/flu and teething. She said it was ok to continue as long I was careful not to over dose her on a daily basis.

I really wanted to stick my tongue out at the mother while I was leaving. But I just bundled Moo up and hurried her back to bed because she had started sleeping.

bebemoo · 12/11/2009 12:28

The other mother was probably right to some degree. I didn't think abt what it would mean if Moo did have the flu. Though I was trying to be cautious because even colds can cause complications for people and it might have been enough if she had the flu too. She was probably tired and stressed too as it was apparently injection day at the surgery. (And I should have remembered that it's Thursdays--tho to be honest I was thinking it was Friday today, that's how little sleep I've had, which also means that unless dh happens to come home via the train tonight or I decide to drive all the way to farnborough, I've got another day without him.)

Bicnod · 12/11/2009 12:33

But what are you supposed to do with your poorly baby? Even if you did suspect it was flu a baby needs to see the doctor to be sure. You were doing everything you could to make sure germs weren't transferred. Don't let it get to you bebe... everyone knows that if you go to the GP there is a chance you'll pick something up, that's just the way it is.

Hang in there - things will get better x x

bebe that other mum can just go boil her head, you were doing exactly the right thing. Swine flu's main characteristic is a raging temp, so Moo doesn't have that, and you need to look after your baby.

she's probably one of those people who's so paranoid about germs that she bleaches her children every half an hour and doesn't let them play in the park cause it's dirty.

sorry to hear you had a rough night

bebemoo · 12/11/2009 13:07

I'm tempted to go to dh tonight. But then he'll not get any sleep either... and I'd have to drive all that way; so maybe not.

We're supposed to go to ILs this weekend because we're missing MIL b-day while we go to the States and so we always see them/her the weekend before we go to celebrate early. But I'm also really not wanting to go.
The house is a mess. I need to pack for the trip. Which means I need to do all sorts of laundry.
I don't know if we can back out gracefully without hurting her feelings. (She's very sensitive abt it-even that we go to visit my family at all over her b-day, but we go instead of seeing them at Christmas and I feel it's a fair trade really even though I hate missing Christmas with my family every year)

BoffMonster · 12/11/2009 13:25

bebe, under ones are supposed to see the GP with flu. The signs are aimed at adults. The other mother is an ignorant bully.

BoffMonster · 12/11/2009 13:27

FWIW I would have pretended to sneeze over her and said "What are you going to do now, bitch?"

Well, in my head, anyway!

bebemoo · 12/11/2009 13:31

Boffin

AuldAlliance · 12/11/2009 13:32

bebe, she was talking out of her behind (listen to da boff!). Ignore and forget.

It sounds to me as if you are in a state like the one I was in over the summer, where I got overtired and overstressed with moving house, and everything became a trial and a source of worry and exhaustion.
Blow off your MIL if you think the consequences are bearable; otherwise take a deep breath, go and maybe it'll not be as bad as you fear.

I have kick-started the new thread with some SS cheating. Fans of French sweets and other goodies are cordially invited to cast a glance...

Well one response might have been 'I say, do I look bothered?'

or in the vernacular

'Fuck right off'.

But Bebe is US so probably never swears at all!

lol Nutty. I'm from the MidWest...so I don't swear much; it's a clear indicator when I do, that I've just about hit the roof, and Either you should grab onto something quick after you batten down the hatches, or you better high tail it for the hils ;)

bebemoo · 12/11/2009 14:30

i just had a cola (which i hardly ever drink) and suddenly i feel human again. think i'm tired and it's caused my low mood.

Feierabend · 12/11/2009 14:30

The Boff's around so I probably won't get a chance to finish this thread off... but I'll give it a try.
