Hi, Welcome to the new thread, the one where we can't drink a cup of tea in peace (there you go, we could have used that for a title!!)

I was in bodyshop yesterday and M trashed the place. Luckily the sales assistant thought she was sweet as she pulled things off displays and legged it out the shop with jars of body butter (several times)!!, cue me legging it after her with a handful of makeup . Luckily there were no store detectives aroud. She also tried to wear every shoe within her reach at the shoe shop.

Ponymum sorry to hear you are still having MS. I didn't have any sickness with mine but with DD1 I was nauseous everyday all day.

at nursey prices, we can pay around 20-40 a day depending on the nursery and CM are roughly 2-4 an hour. Hull area so lots of council estates which might make a difference.

Get better soon all you poorly babies. It's awful when it is so cold and you have a sicky baby. So much washing to do.

Debi sorry about the house falling through, hope you find a buyer soon.

My washing machine broke last week, that's the third thing so hoping for a stress free Christmas.

Star emailing you know as I am very nosey

DebiTheScot · 30/11/2009 16:06

good to hear from you pony, hope your and dd's sickness go soon.
Did you lose the house you were buying when that happened?
Our solicitor has said that as she's not being hassled from our vendors solicitor yet that we might as well keep quiet for now and hope the EA can get some viewings lined up. Feels a bit dishonest though.

Ponymum · 30/11/2009 16:30

debi Yes, we lost that house. We waited a bit but had to come clean as we had the exchange dates agreed so it was pretty obvious when we went quiet. The sellers EA had several other people lined up waiting so it was gone just like that. Still, we couldn't have lived in that house with my SPD, so maybe it was for the best. Also, we got £11k more when we did actually sell, so those stupid buyers pissing us around missed out big time. (Tragic attempt to make myself feel better.)

digitalgirl · 30/11/2009 20:07

north London childcare thread here

ponymum nice to hear from you, sorry dd is so ill though. Hopefully last night was a one off and she's got the worst of it out of her system. Are you getting any sighs of SPD yet? That's the one thing that worries me about getting pg again. I could take it easy last time, but don't think DS would allow that.

debi sorry about those bastard buyers too. We had a buyer pull out years ago. We'd already packed a lot of stuff. Glad it happened though as we were going to buy another flat ... when we eventually got another offer we found our house in a much nicer area. So worked out much better.

eandz thanks for the tip. Did a bit if expressing in the shower, it helped.

Had to get the pump out though, was just far too painful otherwise. It's funny I still expect the pump to hurt like it did when I first started using it. But it's no where near as strong as DS. Tried to give DS some ebm in a cup but he wasn't interested.

Kagey · 30/11/2009 21:07

Ponymum I hope your DD is better now.

Congrats Bogie - I'm a little as we have been ttc since October and I know it's early days still, but it all happened quite quickly with DD. Also a fab friend at work has announced she is 5-6 weeks pregnant and I am so pleased for her and hope it will happen to us soon.

Meglet · 30/11/2009 22:00

ponymum hope you and DD get a better nights sleep tonight.

debi fingers crossed you can keep everything on hold and find another buyer quickly.

Pacita · 30/11/2009 22:07

Thanks for that Digi, I'm finding the same issues as you with childcare. And I am a bit put off by the price of nannies!

Ponymum sorry to hear about your ms. They say that it's a symptom that your hormones are doing the right thing, although I'm aware that this will not be a huge consolation

We are not TTC yet, as we need to sort out the house extension (and I need to get to the point where I qualify for maternity leave). I wonder if it'll get a lot harder the longer I leave it.

Sorry to hear about poorly babies, and Debi, dropping the sale at the very last moment is really dirty. I hope you find new buyers soon!

Ponymum · 30/11/2009 22:11

Hi digi. No signs of SPD yet, but I am already seeing the physio and doing what I am told. i.e. no carrying heavy things, avoid the stairs, don't cross my legs, etc. She said there is still a 70% chance it will be as bad as last time. If so, at least we are in an accessible house and I already have a wheelchair. But crap, of course. Let's be positive.

Must go, DD crying.

mamamuffin · 01/12/2009 11:21

Hi guys
Hope your daughter is better today pony and you have slept well. Gosh I really feel for you with the ms, it feels like only yesterday. Hopefully you can be spared the spd but at least you know what your dealing with.
Hope it happens for you soon Kagey. I fell pregnant with my too both at christmas so it could be the same for you
Any signs of a buyer debi ? I know how frustrating it can be.
Gosh I am getting used to this resting. My decorations are all up. Ive just done some work work online so I dont feel as guilty with all this time off. I am hoping my pop will be off next week so I can paint my toes and put on my party shoes. But I reckon I might be in flats for a while .
Eandz I saw the clip of your husband on you tube, I looked it up as my sister lives in dubai. A Very handsome and confident chap. (very clever too!!). Did you say he was on the telly tonight?? x
Have a nice day to you all x

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 01/12/2009 12:03

EandZ's husband on tv? what? Eh? More details please

mamamuffin - I keep meaning to say that I have never heard a cast called a pop before. I think I've heard of pot but not pop. I think wearing party shoes may be a bit hopeful tbh. How about some nice ballet pumps? You can get some really pretty ones. I have to wear them all of the time as dh and I are the same height and I hate being taller than him. Me, bitter? No

Hopefully · 01/12/2009 12:48

I pay £5ph for the childminder, which I think is fairly standard around here (south coast). Nurseries are INSANELY expensive, and you have to pay for the session, and I didn't want to have to get there at stupid o'clock...

We have all had nasty D&V bug over the past week Ponymum, so I can imagine how poor little Ponygirl was. T didn't get it nearly as badly as me and DP, I'm hoping he doesn't get it again. I was iller than I can remember being for a looonnnnng time.

Quite looking forward to TTC next month, hope it doesn't take too long (was instant hit last time, but doubt we'll be so lucky again).

Debs75 · 01/12/2009 13:07

Debithescot According to the Sun we have the luckiest name. I'm not complaining as have a good life but I don't feel especially lucky. Maybe when the lottery win comes in eh?

mamamuffin · 01/12/2009 13:53

What name would that be then debs? interesting!
Il2MIMI pop as in plaster of paris ! lol
Yes was thinking of ballet shoe type pumps. However, I am so short and your height. I have a christmas party to go to and I doubt anyone will notice my flip flops under my maxi dress anyway .
Come on eandz we need the link to your husband I dont know how to do it. Well hopefully this thread will soon be turning into a TTC thread. How fun. x

DebiTheScot · 01/12/2009 14:14

hopefully we had instant hit twice in a row! DH was torn between being disapointed it happened so quick and proud of his 'super sperm'

Debs obviously I knew we had the best name but don't know if it's been lucky for me either.

mama you might not need to be of ILTMIMI's height. She didn't actually say she was tall, just that she's the same as her dh. Tell yourself they're both 5ft

CarrieBo · 01/12/2009 14:22

Hello...!

No, I don't have internet at home yet, I just have nice friends and for once I've got time to catch up on reading the thread and post, wow!

The decorator is doing the lounge and our bedroom at the same time, so I have no bed or sofa, so relaxing at home is really hard! We're living in a small room at the back of the house, but hopefully that will end next Wednesday when the new carpets arrive.

Ds was really ill last week, his breathing was horrendous again, very fast and wheezey for three days. He was sucking in under the ribs, but was happy in himself, playing nicely and sleeping ok. A bit off his food, but still eating and drinking enough to have wet nappies. He had a temp of 38 on Thursday, but that's not hugely high, and went down with calpol. I was on the verge of taking him to hospital a couple of times, but figured he'd be happier and sleep better at home so unless he was so bad he needed oxygen, we'd stay home. I think he's turned to corner now, although on Sunday night he was awake and crying from 3-6am for no particular reason. yaaawn. DD is now wheezey, which is really unusual for her. Ds seems to hate the cold which is a shame, coz there's a great outdoor floodlit playground (at the designer outlet mama) which DD loves, but as he's not running around yet he just gets cold and cross.

He's really close to walking, today he learned to stand up in the middle of a room without holding on to anything. He'll walk holding onto just one finger, and is cruising round the furniture at speed, but just hasn't got the confidence to step out on his own. I think we'll buying his first shoes before Christmas though!

ninja what did you think of Eureka? A friend has suggested we go but I don't quite know what to expect.

So sorry about all the poorly babies and their mummies, hope you keep warm and rested and get well soon.

CarrieBo · 01/12/2009 22:07
Meglet · 01/12/2009 22:16

I'm here. I just didn't have anything interesting to say .

Sorry your family have been ill carrie , get well soon. Is the house going to be ship-shape by Xmas?

digitalgirl · 01/12/2009 22:29

Huh, my mum might have agreed to cover my four days at work!! Result!!

I was just about to start the whole ring round business.

Still might save up to put DS in nursery for a couple of days when he turns two. Think it could be good for him. But for now I will have to research more activities for DS to join next month or I fear my mum will allow him to become overly acquainted with all the local supermarkets (she's addicted to food shopping).

Great to hear loads of progress being made in the house carriebo. Well done for surviving in one room. I've done that all too often in the past but never with DCs.

Beginning to ignore the boob pain now. Must be going down. Bye bye milk.

Meglet · 01/12/2009 22:40

ah, but dg, if your mum is addicted to food shopping is she also addicted to cooking it for you?

ninja · 01/12/2009 22:53

carrie I love Eureka. We're members - have been for 3 years. There's plenty to do to occupy a day, the cafe isn't bad now (used to be appalling), and there's plenty of space for Maebh to run around. Because we're members we're quite relaxed about what we do while we're there and don't stress about seeing it all, we just see what DD1 fancies.

In the hols they always do craft and story telling sessions, so it never seems too crammed. The under 5 bits are good too.

It isn't cheap (7.50 for adult and children over 3), but they often have free kids (e.g those dressed as witches around halloween ...)

We should do a Northern meet there!

imoscarsmum · 02/12/2009 09:41

Hi all. Sorry to hear of poorly babies and congrats for new jobs, commiserations to those without new houses to go to etc. Have been lurking for a while but by the time I've got round to posting, time's flown away!

Think illnesses must be doing the rounds. Loads of my baby cafe mums have ill babies - especially tummy upsets, bad colds, chesty coughs etc. DD has been OKish - she had a very bad cold and now has cattarrh (sp?) on her stomach which means her appetite is rubbish and she threw up her tea on Friday, Sat & Sunday nights. Sunday was bad as she did it at 10pm in her cot - thank god for the mattress with washable covers! She's also getting a bit clingy, which is like the old days when she was 10 months and I first went back to work.

Comments re childcare - agree with starlight that it's what suits each child. My nephew would have bombed out in a nursery - he needed lots of one-to-one care - but our local nursery is fab and DD has really settled there. She seems to thrive on the stimulation and gets bored easily, so not sure she would suit a CM.
We pay £382 a month for 3 full days a week. With vouchers, that comes down to about £300 and we use child benefit towards it so it probably costs about £200 a month net.
This morning DD actually reached out for one of the key workers there when I dropped her off - first time she's done that. They really do love them there and as it's at a college, she gets to see all the students arriving & the catering school cook the meals.
Once we get our 5 mornings of free nursery when she's 3, we can either leave her there and pay a reduced fee or put her into the local primary school - not sure yet.

Oh, and not talking to DP today .
I went to the cinema on my own last night to see a film. i felt really brave and had a great evening while he stayed at home.
but DD woke with a dirty nappy at 4am (most unusual for her). Obviously I didn't know her nappy was dirty, so left her to cry for a few mins to see if she would re-settle, as she often does. She didn't so i went in after, literally, about 5 or 6 mins of crying and he bloody well had a go at me for 'leaving her to cry and feel abandoned'!!!
FFS, she's almost 15 months not a newborn! A few mins to self-settle is reasonable and then go in if she doesn't - thereby teaching her we will come to her if it's important.

I called him a silly man (or words to that effect) and he's now mightily pissed off at me.
Hmmmmmm

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 02/12/2009 12:22

IOM - If your dp felt that way he should have got up himself and changed her. Tell him to get over himself, that usually shuts them up

lol at pop standing for plaster of paris. What a thicko I am!!

Oh, and I am tall. I'm 5'10"

Meglet · 02/12/2009 12:37

im agree that your DP should have done it himself it he was so concerned. I've done that myself though, left them to cry then realised they've done a huge poo Easily done and not the end of the world. I've always wished I could have a poo monitor in the nursery so I would know as soon as they did a poo .

My two were both awake at 1am this morning, which is very out of character for them. DD was having a tantrum between 12 and 1am, everytime I went to her she stopped crying, bounced up and started waving the very hungry caterpillar at me , then after a while her grizzling woke DS up and he insisted on a nappy change and a needed a dose of medicine for his snotty nose.

imoscarsmum · 02/12/2009 14:51

I can't really criticise DP as he does do his fair share of night wakings but it was the way he lay in bed tutting, waiting for me to go to her (it was my turn to be fair). It turns out now it's not really about me not dashing into her but that he's pissed off cos I called him names when I got up to see to her.
I called him a stupid * cos it was 4am and he was tutting at me!! May have to rethink Xmas eve now (it involved oysters and his first 'present' from me once DD in bed )

mamamuffin · 02/12/2009 17:32

He he! Oysters indeed!

I regulary call my dh names in the early hours. lol.

I love Eureka too. Great with tesco club card points because its free.

Glad to hear your survived the move carrie maybe a meet up at the outlet once I am on my feet?

Must go dh wants to spend time with me not on the computer . xx
