Hello all!

Sorry for not coming back sooner. Isn't life hectic now, especially with the lovely tantrums ShockGrin

I am now 31+5 and knackered. That's probably because I'm always running around after Amy who seems to like getting into dangerous situations all the time. Bless!

Not sure if I mentioned it before, but we're having a boy this time Grin. It's going to be total chaos, isn't it...

Must read back through to see how you're all holding up sanity wise Wink

laumiere · 17/09/2010 09:27

Hi Kanga, still not great. I'm safe til April at least, then who knows? The cupcakes are going well, I still need to crack the posh swirly icing though. We were actually on hols for last fortnight (Spain to see my parents), such a nice break!

Gabriel now shouts 'go go go!' before he walks anywhere! Michael is starting school 1 day per week from Oct, already I'm having kittens....

Boobz · 20/09/2010 19:15

Hey everyone!

Yes Kanga - am now in Sunny Khartoum. We arrived nearly a month ago, and we're adjusting well, I think. Penny is a little horror sometimes (did someone mention tantrums?) but generally enjoying the heat and pools and making new friends. Connie is growing so fast - she's now over 3 months and a real fatty. Not as good a sleeper as Pen was at that age, but we all go down for a 2 hour nap in the heat of the day, so am coping with the sleepless nights so far. Having 2 so close together will pay off later on I know, but boy am I shattered now.

Life here consists of lots of dinner parties, pool parties, fancy dress parties, lunch time drinking and trips away camping in the desert. We've booked a holiday to Kenya in October and Cape Town for NYE, to make the most of our time out here. Had a job interview yesterday for a marketing position at a big corporate, and another one tomorrow for Marie Stopes International (more marketing), so wish me luck! Wouldn't start until Jan when Connie is a little more robust. Am about to load up the latest photos of Pen and Con on my profile - please everyone load up pictures of Gabriel, Nick, Ben and anyone else who is still around and posting.

And Kanga - lovely shot of your dd - haven't they gotten so big all of a sudden?!

laumiere · 23/09/2010 22:58

Your wish is my command boobz! New pics of Gabriel and Michael on my profile page.

Boobz · 24/09/2010 18:52

Photos here, as taking too long to load to profile:

I love the matching arm poses Laumiere!

laumiere · 24/09/2010 21:06

Your wee girls are stunning boobz! I love the wistful look Pen has got :-)

G actually wasn't asleep, he was trying to copy his dad!

corgikelly · 28/09/2010 13:25

Helloooooooo (says a voice from the back of beyond)!

I've been popping in to check new posts pretty regularly, but became utterly disheartened when a nice long post I wrote about six weeks ago disappeared into the ether when I hit "post message." Hmm

We've all gone so quiet, and I think whoever said it's because we're dealing with tantrums was absolutely right. Rhys has become the Drama King of the Low Countries...Hmm Though actually, I'm spending most of my time on the behaviour/development board looking for advice on fussy eaters! Despite my best attempts to raise a little gastronome, anything not classifiable as bread, yoghurt, cereal or meat is met with scorn, suspicion and spitting out.

That said, he can be hysterically funny. Runs EVERYWHERE, and is picking up a truly random vocabulary. Why will he say "zebra" and "starfish" and not "dog"? Why will he say "tractor" and not "mama" or "byebye"? And why, oh why, does his word for dummy sound just like the French word for padlock? Grin

I've posted a few new profile pics from our week's holiday in France in August.

Boobz ? the girls are just lovely, and it sounds as if you're coping with life as an expat with utter aplomb.

Laumiere ? I love your cupcake site!

Grinning ? you're almost at your due date, aren't you? Good luck with the final countdown. I'd love a second but am probably not going to be able to talk DP into it. Sad

Kanga ? dd2 looks so BIG!

Mdavza ? so sorry to hear that sleeping is still an issue. Did you go down the sleep training route? Rhys can't seem to go more than two good nights in a row (i.e., asleep by 7:45 with minimum fuss and no yowling until 6:30 or 7), but even his bad nights are a lot better than they used to be. Fingers crossed you'll see the light at the end of the tunnel soon.

Slick ? is the household finally back to good health, or have you been hit by another wave of back-to-school viruses?

Right. If this post disappears, I will gnash my teeth and rend my garments. Fingers crossed...

grinningbee · 06/10/2010 12:39

Corgikelly that's so sad. Why is he so anti another?

Well, it looks as though I may not be waiting around for my due date this time. Saw the mw yesterday at 34+3 and the bump is measuring 40 weeks Shock

I'm now waiting for a scan to find out why, but induction and other lovely things were mentioned. Oh joy.

corgikelly · 07/10/2010 08:21

Wow, grinning, a five week leap sounds huge! Did they miscalculate at the beginning, I wonder?

Re DP, he's 13 years older than I am and has two grown daughters. He is head over heels in love with Rhys, but I think he's definitely felt the challenges of being an older parent -- this first 18 months has pretty much wiped him out (me, too, to be honest, as an older first-time mum). So I have every sympathy for his point of view. The discussion isn't closed, but I'm conscious that a final decision will need to be taken in the next 6 months or so, as I wouldn't want to be much older for the next one!

grinningbee · 07/10/2010 09:50

I know what you mean about being wiped out. My 40th birthday is 11 days before the due date!! I am soooooooooooo tired it's untrue.

Depending on what the scan shows on Monday, I may still yet give birth in my 30's again Grin

I just hope your dh understands that yes, he has his own grown family, but that's no reason for you not to have yours too.

Grin
corgikelly · 12/10/2010 13:41

Any news from the scan, grinning?

grinningbee · 22/10/2010 14:26

Hi Corgikelly

The scan showed that at 35 weeks the baby had already reached just over 6 pounds... eeeek! However, they are happy to let things happen on their own, and don't want to see me again until (god forbid!) I go 9 days over. And then that would only be to discuss options... Hmm

My lovely midwife has put money on the fact that I will be early though. She's fab Grin

mdavza · 27/10/2010 09:37

Hi all!

Boobz Love reading tyour stories from Africa, you're going to LOVE Cape Town, it's the best place on earth and my best friend livs there and sometimes, especially now, as winter descends, I'm wondering whether we shouldn't go back...Your girls re so pretty!
Corgi I'm in sort-of the same situation as you re 2nd child. Although I'm not too madly keen at the moment, I think if it were only up to me I'd probably start trying for another one now. More to get it over with asap than much else, but feeling quite broody. Because of my depression and the tough first year we had, DH is more cautious than me. We haven't actually spoken about it in all honesty. The really big issue is that with the new cap on immigration we are literally counting off the 11 months until we can apply for Indefinite Leave to Rremain in the UK. There is as chance that my dh's work (and our precious work visa) can relocate to Dublin and then we're screwed, might need to immigrate again. So in a way it is more sensible to wait.

How do I access pictures? I'm not able to access anybody's accounts, have been silent for such a long time, must have missed something. I am working full time and thank God, some time Ben's sleeping started geeting better. It's by no means perfect, but at least much better. That was, until 2 weeks ago, just before the friggin hols started, he got a cold, then a week's rest, then another major infection with high fevers and last night he cried for almost an hour (after being up for an hour) because I did not give him more milk. Clash of the Titans here!!! But he is absolutely fab, not walking but jogging all over. He fell of a stool last week and fractured his wrist, which is in a cast now, but it should heal quick enough.

The summer was so nice, and I'm looking at a cold but beautiful autumn day outside.

mdavza · 27/10/2010 09:57

Figured out the pics, laum, boobz, kanga, corgi, grinning your kids are bee-u-ti-ful!
Added a recent pic of Bx

kanga5 · 16/11/2010 10:46

Grinning you must be nearly due, hope you are coping ok.

Like the photos Mdavza, he seems to love baskets!

Corgi very stylish pics of R in France.

Tis very quiet on thread, those tantrums are really taking centre stage these days. I have nothing to report really. Found out that the immunisations all the kids had in UK match Australia except for HEP B so lucky children face 3 jabs each over the coming months. Poor things. They offer the chicken pox vaccine here, but all of mine have had it anyway.

DD2 has learnt to say sorry ("Orry"), even if someone else steps on my toes, or I knock the shopping trolley into the shelves. So funny.

xx

grinningbee · 17/11/2010 08:52

Hi Kanga, yep I'm 4 days overdue now. Grrrr.

Amy has taken to saying "alright?" whenever I have a coughing fit, and strokes my arm or leg while saying it too which is really cute.

She is currently wandering around wearing sunglasses from which she has removed one lense... bless!

I've been wondering where everyone has gone too. Must be dealing with tantrums like you say. It's certainly going to be very interesting around here when ds finally arrives Grin

P.S How is life in Oz? Go on, tell me it's lovely...

grinningbee · 22/11/2010 10:13

Just in case anyone ever pops in here anymore, Jack was born on Nov 20th at 9.06am very quickly indeed, weighing 8lb 10oz.

Boobz · 22/11/2010 19:16

That's fabulous news Grinning! We need more details than that though... home birth? Photo?

Well done you - can't remember if this is your 2nd or more... but well done xx

kanga5 · 22/11/2010 20:38

Congratulations grinning! Welcome to little Jack. Hope you are recovering well, take care x

corgikelly · 23/11/2010 07:51

Congrats grinning! Hope to hear more details soon!

Is anybody else sick of the snow?

jollyjoanne · 02/01/2011 15:18

Not sure if anyone will be reading this anytime soon - but has anyone thought about potty training yet? We're thinking about it - but have no idea where to start?

Nice to hear that most people seem to doing alright and that the new brothers and sisters have arrived safely!

Will try and pop in again soon and read a few more posts.
