Yayyy Kanga! Fantastic that you all made it there! Am so glad we have the wonderful web! How are the kids taking it all? I guess it'll take a while to settle. It's raining here too, but nice that your last weekend was a hot one.

Miss Totally agree and understand. Nick gets just absolutely FILTHY and I keep saying to him when we are out in the garden, "If you just walk it'd be a A LOT easier for both of us and you can have more fun too!" I knew tho that first steps didn't mean an instant end to crawling but it is a start.

DD2 was hilarious this morning. She said to DH while he was changing Nick's bum; "You've got a stick on your bum. Nicholas has a stick on his bum..." . Ahhh, love it.

Boobz · 02/06/2010 12:04

Well done Kanga - gives me hope that I can move my 2 little ones without too much pain to Sudan come August...

Am 39 weeks today - eek! DH coming home from Sudan on Friday, so crossing my legs till then. Feeling knackered running after Penpots on my own, as well as trying to organise remedial building works to the house, and walk the bloody hound twice a day! but we're getting there. Sleeping is proving impossible though...

Look out for live birth thread on the homebirth thread!

Slickbird · 02/06/2010 12:36

Boobz! You poor thing! I don't know how your managing!! Have you got anyone to help you?

Boobz · 03/06/2010 14:43

I have a cleaner, a dog walker, and a network of friends and Streatham Mums, so I'm doing ok! Still knackered though. DH home in less than 18 hours so we're all good I think...

laumiere · 03/06/2010 21:18

All packed now lalalala!

boobz I think I will be missing all the excitement so say hi to miniBoobz for me when s/he makes an appearance!

Wheelybug · 04/06/2010 15:43

Have a great time Lau !!

Kanga - glad you've all made it safely to the other side !! Hope you settle back in quickly...

Boobz - hope all goes well... and DH has made it back in time ! If you get the chance let us know on here when it starts so we can hop over the home birth thread !!

Well done N on walking Slick - hope your household is bug free soon.

Not much of note to report here - L seems to be growing teeth in a strange order - has molars through but no 3rd and 4th incisors on the bottom yet. Hmm. Even dentist thought it odd which wasn't the response I was hoping for. But, from looking on MN seems it can be quite normal. She has really had a nasty time with the molars though - horrid horrid nappy rash with open weepy sore bits, up in the night, nose dribbling like mad etc. Poor sausage.

SHe's still causing her own form of havoc and mischief though !! Can't get her down at night at the mo - often not down till 9 or later so should go and wake her now...

Slickbird · 06/06/2010 10:46

Wheely I know what you mean about strange orders. I always had it in my head that babies kinda had a set order for their teeth, but when it comes to Nick it's all been pretty random. His bottom incisors have just broken through in the last few days and that's him with nearly a full set! He's got his teeth really quickly in the end. But yes, the pains with it are not so good so I feel for your LO.

DD2 continues to be on a night-terror bender, but she has been ill again (and Nick) with another snotty nose and chesty cough (is every week at the moment) so if it isn't one waking us up, it is the other. I find myself really wanting this phase to pass as it is so hard going. Despite all the cute bits!

I got myself a job. I start next week and after three weeks I'll be doing 3 days a week. I'm back at the investment house I worked at before I had Nick and I'm going to be a P.A./Marketing Assitant. I'm embarrassed to say, I feel like I slightly breezed into the job as I had called the HR dept a couple of weeks ago to ask if they had anything and to bear me in mind and then this came up. They spoke to my old manager who seems to have given me a glowing reference and then after an informal interview on Friday, wanted me to start asap.

So the plan is now, DH will drop a day and work a Sunday instead, look after the kids 2 days a week and then we'll put the wee ones in nursery for the 3rd day. That will cost me a lot tho and I will be working the 3rd day for nothing, but I am trying to think of the bigger picture and what it might lead to. I am really pleased to be going back there tho as they were one of the few recent employers who treated me well. The last two were truely awful.

So,I'll be going back to work for a rest. And I won't have to LIFT anyone. Or wipe anyone's noses.

I hope.

Sorry for mammoth post. Where's Meep these days??

mdavza · 06/06/2010 20:03

Hallooooo, been lurking and just busy. Good to hear all the news!
Kanga, enjoy the sun, hope you have a great time settling in . Are you going to stay in Sydney? We have so many friends who've emigrated and now live there, but apparently it's even more expensive (to buy) than London?!!

Laumiere, I'm way envious of your honeyoon, hope it's romantic and restful.

Slick, congrats on the job and hope the kids feel better soon. You sound like such a dynamic person, are you still singing?

Here Ben is not only walking, oh no, he is running! He loves chasing after the cats although we've now sort-of taught him not to grab their tails. He is still falling quite a bit, full of bumps and bruises, and he is babbling away - if in a good mood! His sleeping improved, thank goodness, and then he got his MMR, and more teeth are coming out so we've been having some long night wakings for the past two weeks, yawn. At least now I know that it will pass, touch wood. I am working full time unti the end of term and have applied for a full-time maternity cover position from August. The job situation fro teachers here is dire, though, so I hope I get it. Ben is going fro his nursery visit tomorrow and it is so hard to think I'll have to hand him over. But he'll initially only go for a few morning sessions, hopefully he'll love it. My DH has applied for a job in Edinburgh, and it's looking good. Sun yesterday, shtty rainy day today, and we've planned a nice barbie with the family and neighbours, was a bit boring, all of us huddled inside. I made a marinade from a recipe that I've found in last week's Sunday Times Style magazine, worked well. Will stop rambling.
How are you, Corgi?
Boobz, thinking of you, wow, a new baby!

Can't believe it but I'm actually broody...DH not ready

emma2617 · 06/06/2010 21:01

Hello Ladies! I'm just sticking my little head in again as I am well and truly rubbish! You may or may not remember me...but I remember you all! (stalker much??) It is so nice to see familiar names, hope you are all doing well!

Sorry I disappeared not long after my reappearance a few months ago...life got in the way again!

boobz so excited for you...your LOs will have the same age gap as me and my sister!

I too am pregnant again, going for my 12 week scan on 14th June, can't wait! It made me think of all you lovely ladies as I joined the Dec 2010 ante-natal thread and it just isn't the same!

kanga5 · 07/06/2010 01:18

Boobz good luck and will be watching the birth thread with interest....it was gripping last time!

emma congrats on news of pregnancy, and welcome back.

Slick congrats too on going back to work. It will be very rewarding i'm sure.

Here I am constantly pestered by 5 very bored children i think. It has been up and down the first week here, and yes mdavza it is more expensive than London, and we no longer have a lovely low interest rate to grab onto either. We have bought a car, and now have to look for somewhere to live, but can't decide which part of Sydney to make our home. Tis very stressful, with family life to keep on track too.

It rained about 50cm here on Friday, and we could hardly see a thing as we drove about the suburbs. Our tom tom seems to have given up helping us navigate after only a week, eeeeek. I'll have to do it now.

I'm sure by christmas we'll be settled down...

Slickbird · 07/06/2010 20:21

Nice to hear from you Mdavza and welcome back Emma - You were a bit of a hit and run last time, so I hope you hang around longer this time.
How's the wee one? Congrats on your pregnancy!

Mdavza Thank you! dynamic? Me? I dunno about that. I don't feel very dynamic! I feel like I am always trying to cram too much in but I don't know if that makes me dynamic or just plain stupid! I am still singing and actually, I have 4 shows in one week coming up in a couple of weeks time and I'm sweating it a bit as there is still a lot to memorise and I hardly have the time. If it were all easy show tunes it'd be fine, but some of its really complex - Hyden, Mozart and Handle. ("This Mozart's hard to Handle and is giving me a good Hyden" Arf arf.) However, I'm sure I'll get there. It all has been a bit too much on top of everything else tho - and OMG how many birthdays do I have this month! It's ridiculous!

Great to hear that Ben is running but sorry he's had a bit of a rough time. Seems to be the time of year for it - but saying that, it's been like that in this house for months. I am nervous about putting the two wee ones in nursery for a day a week as I just know to start Nick will just go ballistic for ages. And even tho it's third time round and I've done it all before, it still makes me feel crap and like I'm abandoning him. It's cos they don't understand that you will be back so they just think you've left them. Urgh, soul destroying. Still, they get over it. Let us know how your DH gets on with job in Edinburgh. That's where I'll be. I'm lucky as I'll get the best of both worlds - working in Edinburgh and living in the country outside. How are you getting on with the AD's - have things settled again for you?

Kanga What a shame, the kids probably had it in their heads that there would be glorious sunshine, but of course it's coming into your winter there isn't it? Hope you get a house sorted soon. So glad you are still with us.

Right, stuff to do. On my own tonight so I am just hoping that they sleep through.

Later y'all. xx

emma2617 · 07/06/2010 21:21

Thanks slickbird! I intend to stick around this time!!

Luca is really well, cutting another molar so a smidge grumpy!! He is at nursery full time and absolutely loves it, he has always been so independant and hasn't once whinged when I've left him! He even has 2 little girlfriends! He too is running like a mentalist, the injuries are ridiculous! We've had a mid forehead gash, graze covering half his face, bloody nose...the list is endless!

Kanga gutted for the weather, however I'm still jealous! I really want to emigrate to Oz, have family in melbourne and it is just lovely!!

mdavza · 08/06/2010 12:04

Thanks Slick, wow, Handel and Mozart are never the easiest to sing (or play), Haydn better although his voice stuff can be tough. Who are you singing with again? So glad you mentione nursery, as Ben is starting with three morning sessions next week. Had his first visit this morning without me (I was waiting in the staff room) and he was ok for about 10 minutes and then he started wailing, real big crocodile tears and sobs, and eventually they brught him out and I felt like the wicked witch. PLEASE tell me they get used to it! I know I'm going to ball my eyes out next week when leaving him, it is totally crap.
The AD's are working super, feeling great, in fact, so great I'm wondering: why do I need those things again? But I'll wait until Ben is older and his sleep has stabilised (touch wood).
Welcome Emma and congratulations on the new one!
Kanga the same friends who moan about the prices also can;t stop sending us enough pictures of them on the beahc (in summer), them n the sunshine out cycling, them on some wonderful trip in the sunshine...so tough! Now with the world Cup being in SOuth Africa I am sooooo homesick, although still getting weekly reports of bad things happenning to friends and family. No thank you.
Ben says dada, all the time. When I say 'mamma' he looks at me, looks at my husband and says: 'dada! Although every now and then he'll now say 'ma". He has a cute habit of standing on his head an looking through his legs, we have a huge giggle!
Till laters alligaters!

Slickbird · 08/06/2010 13:48

Mdavza Ahh, yes, the yoga pose! Nick's big on this one too. It's sooo cute. Also he took ages to say Mummy and just kept saying Daddy, but it was def just to wind me up. He knew. He knew.... Nick is now saying "Cheese, Niiight niight, Nice, Potty (for his sister) and Bupadee, bup-a-dee." Which we believe is cup of tea. But none of them are word perfect, just close to.

In terms of leaving them, they def do get used to it, but you still feel crap while they do and it is hard I won't lie. You wouldn't think being left in a room with other children and a million toys would be so traumatic for them, but there it is.

Glad the Ad's are doing their job.

I have my super heavy period going on again. Everyone keeps telling me to go get the coil fitted but after two people I know having bad experiences, it is putting me off. Don't really know what to do and DH has still never had the snip. I am of the opinion, there's not a lot of point if I'm going to have to take some kind of contraception to try and stem the flow anyway. Anyone else having this problem?

Slickbird · 08/06/2010 13:49

Meant to say Mdavza it's choir called "Glits".

Wheelybug · 09/06/2010 17:59

Just popping in to say hi and that Connie is here... birth story and short video here:

Boobz birth story

emma2617 · 15/06/2010 09:23

boobz she is absolutely beautiful!!!]

Well, yet again Luca is poorly! Are anyone elses DCs in nursery and constantly ill??? It is so annoying!

Had my scan yesterday and they moved my due date forward by 6 days!! Much better than when they moved it back 2 weeks with Luca, that was a horrible day! So I am officially due on 22nd December! She was such a wriggler, Luca barely moved on his scan, and he is so laid back! Looks like this one could be a handful!!

Hope everyone is okay and all those lovely DCs are driving you all up the wall with their adventures!!!

jollyjoanne · 15/06/2010 21:03

Congrats Boobz! gorgeous new baby.

Hello again Emma!

Kanga - glad you got to Oz OK - I'm sure you'll be settled in, in no time.

Mae is still not walking particularly well - she would much prefer to crawl and get filthy. She has also got her teeth coming through in a very wierd order. And she is following the trend for being ill - nearly every other week.

OP posts:
laumiere · 20/06/2010 09:36

Hi all, thanks for the honeymoon wishes! The honeymoon was blissful (great weather, lovely hotel etc) but did have a touch of the post holiday blues arriving home yesterday and had a fight with DH after he stayed up til 2.30 am drinking and watching the wrestling while I was trying to sleep. Ah well, back to reality!

Boobz congratulations on the new arrival!

Slickbird · 22/06/2010 20:11

Hey Laumiere Glad you had a great time, sorry it was marred by the argument at the end, but if it's any consolation, it sounds just like the sort of relationship me and mine have!

I have been busy back at work so not had a lot of time to post and also have done two shows over the weekend. I am now nursing a cold in the hope it will suddenly disappear for tomorrow night's show. And I have another on Saturday! It has been a very tough two weeks (Well, few months actually). DD2 is on anti-biotics for another chest infection (and we thought she may have a urine infection but is ok). The night terrors continue when ill or high temp and the screaming tantrums fill the day.

Nick is walking a bit more every day, but still crawls more than anything. So Mae is not alone Jolly!

The eldest - well who'd have ever thought she would be an oasis of calm by comparison.

On a sad note, I seem to be surrounded by people suffering from cancer and it's hard going as apart from the appalling loss in two recent instances for the families involved (and my mum's BF has just been dignosed with breast cancer)it is selfishly making me feel, what if it's me next? - I just so desperately want to be here for my children. I hate cancer. I really do.

Anyway, sorry to bring the thread down. Needed a purge. Hope everyone is enjoying the lovely weather.

laumiere · 22/06/2010 22:40

Hugs for you slick

Gabriel is still stubbornly crawling!

Boobz · 26/06/2010 20:15

Hi everyone... tis very quiet in here these days - I guess real life has finally taken over for everyone.

Well Connie is now just over two weeks old and I can't quite believe I am a mum of 2 under 2. It's been a really hectic time, what with running around after Penny, and trying to get everything organised for the move to Africa come August, as well as getting to know and feeding little Connie, but we're getting into a routine of sorts. DH was here for 2 weeks paternity leave and then returned to Sudan on Thursday night (with the dog!) leaving me and the girls to fend for ourselves for the next 7 weeks! Yesterday was a bit of an easy day really, as I had arranged for Pen to be at her childminder, so I could just catch up on some sleep and get the house back in order (DH and dog create a lot of mess) so today was my first day of looking after the 2 kids from start to finish on my own. It's been a good day actually - met a friend in the park for the morning for bacon butties and some running around the playground after Pen (with Connie in sling), followed by nap for Pen and then paddling pool at the local common this afternoon. So Pen was exhausted which was good, and means I know she'll sleep in till at least 7:30am tomorrow, giving me a mini lie in.

That's if Connie allows... I kind of expected her to be exactly the same as Penny (I suppose when you're experience is limited to one child, you would expect it to be similar...) but Connie is a real puker which Pen never was, which means we're getting through lots of changes of clothes (both of us). She's also, um, less efficient I think... she seems to go on and off the boob throughout the night, pukes, eats again, and the sleeps for 5 hours in the sling whilst I'm out about with Penny, and then it all starts over again at about 6pm (clashing with Pen's bath and bed...) I even went back to the original March '09 ante natal thread just now to see what I had written about Pen's routine... apparently she was in bed by 7:30pm every night and not waking until 1am from Day 12 or thereabouts! Connie is stuck to my boob from 6pm until at least 9pm (she's still here now, whilst I type). I'm sort of co-sleeping as well now, as DH is away, to give me some extra sleep, but I think the feeding lying down is making her puke more.

Exhausting. These 7 weeks can't go quickly enough. I still have to have some remedial works done to the house (where I have to move out for 2 weeks and stay at mum's and in-laws... grrr...) and get the house let, pack it all up, have a christening, sort out new passports for Connie, jabs for all 3 of us for Sudan etc etc. I'm tired just thinking about it.

Congratulations if I haven't already said it Emma - I wonder if there will be many more pregnancies on this thread before the year is out...

Sorry to hear Mae is always poorly JJ. Pen is not ill very much, but tantrumming daily - joy.

And sorry to hear about the people you care for being ill with cancer slick - I had a bit of a cry on Day 6 with Connie when out walking the dog with DH and the girls.. thinking about how I would cope if anything ever happened to any of them, or to me. A belated baby blues maybe.

Right, time to try and put Connie upstairs I think. Hope the thread livens up a bit!
