Can I just add, she smuggled the crayon in.

Missmodular · 27/04/2010 22:05

Poor you Slick, you must be cream crackered with all the night wakings. I was staying at a friend of mine's when her son had night terrors and it sounded stressful. Can you get an interesting (and large) picture/bookcase to put over the crayon by any chance?

Melissa is finally on the mend. She had an almost snot free day today (the first in over a month) and the ear gloop is beginning to shift. AND she slept through the night last night which was just bliss. I'm now looking forward to spending a few hours with just me and her tomorrow while DD1 is at preschool - while it's lovely with both of them it's SO much less work just looking after one

Meep hope Rosie's tummy bug has shifted.

Welcome back Corgi! Wave to everyone else...

Missmodular · 30/04/2010 18:50

Urgh - now I have an ear infection! Does one ever have a germ free house with two kids?

kanga5 · 07/05/2010 15:49

very quiet here...

Must be all the bugs keeping all the mummies busy. Glad you got back ok too Corgi.

we're getting to the business end of our moving plans. V. hard work too. Flights booked, removals booked (to take 3 days), temp accommodation in Sydney booked. Been so busy ebaying, donating and throwing stuff out. Must say after loads and loads of this my house still looks full....can't work it out, must be the law of Stuff Fills the Space Available To It.

Our LO had her MMR, plus 2 other jabs last week poor little thing. Still only 2 bottom teeth for her. She is walking everywhere now, so i predict fun and games on the plane.

xx

Hey Kanga and everyone else!

DH left for Sudan nearly 2 weeks ago so have been on my own with Penny and the dog and growing bigger every day (36 weeks this coming Weds)! Am knackered...

I feel your pain Kanga - I am also in the midst of doing a huge chuck out in preparation for our move to Africa in August, but still have to have this baby in 4 weeks as well. On top of that, the owner of the property next door (we live in a terrace) is having some major works done to his house including a basement, and they didn't underpin it properly so now we have some major cracks appearing and leaks everywhere. Joy - just what I need when I am about to give birth (at home) and need to get the house ship shape to let for 2 years come August. The damage is going to cost £5k to fix (he will pay) but I have to vacate our place for 2 weeks in July with Penny, a newborn and not a DH to be seen (he will have gone back to Sudan by then)... hoping to stay with family but may end up in a hotel for some of it... what a nightmare! Pen will wake the baby and vice versa, plus breast feeding through the night. I'm getting tired just thinking about it.

Still, come the end of July the house will be fixed and it will just be the packing up and move to Sudan to worry about... (oh, and a double christening, and leaving party, and major shopping trips to buy everything for a family of 4 including a newborn which you can't buy in Sudan - disposable nappies for a start!)

Pen is practically running everywhere now (started walking a week after her 1st birthday) and has 14 teeth! She's turned into a right cheeky monster, but loving her to bits. I think this is the best bit yet, of being a mum - all the interaction and seeing her learn new stuff every day... but am looking forward to the tiny newborn stage again soon..

Off to France next week for a last chance holiday as a family of 3... Had a MW appt on Wednesday and she said the baby's head was buried deep in my pelvis... followed up with the words "is there a spare seat on the train to France for me??".... eeek, I really hope this baby doesn't decide to turn up 3 weeks early..

Hope you're all feeling better as well as your LOs... watch this space (or the homebirth thread again!) for an annoucement..

x

jollyjoanne · 07/05/2010 20:32

Boobz fingers crossed for a slightly shorter birthing thread this time round x

Hope you have a good holiday. Can't believe how brave you are being.

Kanga stuff definitely expands to fill the space you have, but feeling quite excited for your whole family, might try and pack myself in one of your many crates and suitcases.

I am now also looking to move as our house in under offer and we have had our house offer accepted, but we're moving about a mile up the road not the other side of the world like you pair!

laumiere · 07/05/2010 23:42

Wow, in awe of the globe-trotting mummies!

We're just coming up to the thorny issue of nursery fees, Gabriel went with his big brother to nursery on Tues and LOVED it, so we're trying to get him into a nursery for at least a couple of mornings a week (will also help when DS1's preschool breaks up in the summer) but will be an extra £500 to find a month, so no way we can rent a larger place (we're 4 in a 2 bed at the moment) or buy somewhere.

Anyone want to join me in a 'sigh'?

lizziemun · 08/05/2010 07:23

Laumiere

I'll join the 'sigh' with you. I can't go to work because I can earn enough to pay nursery/cm fees for 2 fulltime & 1 part time and buy and run a car to get there.

Good luck with the moves abroad (thinking can I squeeze in with JollyJoanne in Kanga cases).

And yes 'stuff' does fill the space you have. I have been moving everything that I can from downstairs to upstairs this week because we having wooded flooring put down thsi week (at last only taken me 8 yrs to convince dh to do it) and getting rid of the horrible cream carpet. And it dosen't seem to matter how much I move there seem so much still to move.

Slickbird · 11/05/2010 18:37

Phew! Kanga & Boobz Holy Smoke, that's a lot on your plate, but as Eleanor Roosevelt said: "A woman is like a tea-bag; the longer she is in hot water, the stronger she becomes". Although, if you're like me, you are more like a camomile tea bag, which is pale and weak.

Boobz So perhaps your new baby could be called Rene(e) or Amelie or Jean or Cristophe....

I have been really ill along with Nicholas with a really grotty, nasty chest infection and I still feel crap having had it for over a week now. Of course being up every night with Nick or DD2 doesn't speed up the recovery process. Nicholas has been seal-barking for the last few days.

Although I did take DD2 to a playgroup today and left her for most of it and she absoluley loved it and got stuck in, which was ace. I've been tyring to get round to it for ages and I nearly got all teary when I saw her happily playing with all these other germ infested kids and tried not to think of all the illnesses we were all about to get Really tho, was great to see. Might actually to be able to clean the house now on a Tuesday and Thursday morning. Or have a cup of tea.

Have also been applying for jobs 2-3 days a week - DH is going to drop two days through the week and work a Sunday so we can MAYBE earn more than what's coming in cos right now, we are NOT managing. Is really hard and stressful. But I know we are not alone.

Hope everyone is faring well. Roll on Summer and can we get rid of this bloody cold weather please!!

Slickbird · 11/05/2010 18:38

Er...HOW many smileys did I just use there?? ()

meep · 13/05/2010 10:35

Morning everyone! Just popping in to get this back on my active convos again- will post later when (hopefully) both girls have a nap.........

Wheelybug · 14/05/2010 14:36

Popping in too although have little to report ( ).

Hope bugs clear up soon slick.

Good luck with the global moves Boobz and kanga - Boobz sounds like you're going to have an awful lot to deal with on your own. Hope all goes ok !

Anyone else with a baby who doesn't seem to need much sleep in the day - sigh. L had a short sleep thhis morning after being in the creche at the gym and then have put her in bed and she has been playing iwth her noisy lion for half an hour. I shouldn't be to surprised I suppose as dd1 gave up sleeping at about 18 months but L is so naughty it would be nice to have a break from chasing her around the place . Ah well....

kanga5 · 21/05/2010 22:23

thank you slick, jolly, boobz, wheely, lizzie, it is getting really exciting now. Only 3 nights left in our flat, 5 in the UK.

The removal firm began packing today and our place looks so bare! Have been saying my goodbyes and that has been hard.

Having said that, BA keep going on and off strike on our flight date, and the volcano seems threatening at times, we have not exchanged on our sale yet, but we have sold the car. It has been SO FULL ON that i have lost weight. I will gain it all back once I can laze about in OZ. Not.

Boobz I don't envy you doing this while pregnant/with newborn. I moved house once when 36 weeks and it was tough. good luck

Wheely, our LO sleeps 30 mins for a nap and it is not enough. I can not get her to go longer, just have to wait til she's older and drops it completely! She does go to sleep better in the evening with the shorter nap though.

biddysmama · 22/05/2010 20:49

hello ladies, is ok for me to join you? my dd is 14 months now and i'm pregnant again! 27 weeks!

Wheelybug · 24/05/2010 14:17

Welcome Biddysmama !

Good luck again Kanga - Let us know how you're getting on when you're all settled.

Missmodular · 25/05/2010 09:59

Hi Biddysmama, welcome to our thread - we're not the most prolific of posters, but what we lack in quantity we more than make up for in quality

Kanga, good luck with the move - hope ash clouds and strikes don't make it more difficult than it's already likely to be. Keep us posted when you touch down!

Melissa is having 1-2 hour naps in the day now, and pretty much sleeping through the night, which makes me sound incredibly smug but given that we had six months of 2-hourly wakings through the night to get here, I think we've paid our dues

We also have a toddler on our hands (!!!) but she still seems to prefer crawling....

Slickbird · 25/05/2010 17:13

Hey y'all!

I can't believe how few posts there have been since I was last here! My computer is knackered (AGAIN) and is not repairable (have lost all my photos from when DD2 and Nicholas was born - am gutted. Didn't manage to put them on to disc as never found time. ) and I am on my parents' one and nobody's been here! I guess all our bambinos are just keeping us tooooo busy!

Welcome Biddy We are a nice bunch in this group (even if I do say so myself)and we are always happy to have more. Especially as no-one seems to be posting much just now!

Farewell Kanga Hope the mammoth move goes well, but God knows, if anyone can do it, it's Mamma Kanga. So glad they have the internet in OZ so we won't have to miss you.

Nicholas is HHHHHUUUUUGEE. And he nearly has his full set of teeth. I chased him round the garden with a pair of scissors yesterday trying to make a dent in his mop and I swear to God, when I'd given up finished he just looked exactly the same. Sigh.

He's still not walking tho and so continues to get in a filthy mess everywhere he goes.

We had the paddling pool out over the weekend and he proceded to drink pretty much all of it. Grass, leaves, and who knows what else. There really was no stopping him. At least he didn't dehydrate.

DD2 continues to be a whining, moaning pain in the neck although she did inform me yesterday that when she's a grown up she wants to be a Doctor. She says it's to make people better, but I rather suspect it's so she can stick needles in them....

The eldest was in tears because she didn't run very well at school sports day. I told her, so what if she can't run for a bus, when she makes it as a singer she can wave at them all as she passes in her limousine.

Right, I'm off, got singing tonight and shows coming up and so so so much to learn.

Hope your all fairing well. xx

laumiere · 30/05/2010 13:08

miss we're in the same boat with Gabriel! We gave up and got his hair clipped at the barbers in the finish. He still isn't walking but isn't letting that stop him!

We're off on our honeymoon Fri, only 4 years late! Wish us luck with the volcano, if it coughs up anything in the next week I'm going to Iceland to smack it in the chops personally....

Slickbird · 30/05/2010 21:45

Nicholas walked today! Hooorah Hoorah! Happy days! I thought it'd never come. When he got going there was really no stopping him. V. proud mummy moment.

Just as well as it really cheered me up after we have spent the last five nights up with both of them running temperatures and the toddler having horrendous night terrors - not sure if she doesn't have a urine infection? see how she goes tonight. But last night was just horrendous, so Nick walking really cheered me up.

Have finally got a mac up and running so hopefully no probs for a long time.

Laumiere - I think clippers will be the way forward here too. Have a great honeymoon. Where are you off to?

Slickbird · 30/05/2010 21:48

BTW, I weighed Nicholas (1.2) and Carla (2.8) and they are both exactly the same weight - both just shy of 2 stone! No wonder I'm knackered lifting them!!

Slickbird · 30/05/2010 21:49

Where is everybody??

Hello, hello helloooo, echo, echo, echo.......

laumiere · 30/05/2010 23:02

Wahoo Nicholas! I think G is determined to be the last to walk here! So pleased for you! Clippers are very convenient though can result in what my husband refers to as 'the Valley Thug' look.

slick we're off to Gran Canaria for 7 days all inclusive

Slickbird · 31/05/2010 19:21

Oooh, Laumiere, that sounds fantastic! We never really had a honeymoon either and we never really seem to get away on holiday with one thing or another (moving house, having yet another child...) so I tend to have my holidays vicariously through other people. Is cheaper that way too. That being the case I want to see photos and all the stories. Well maybe not ALL the stories...

Have a fantastic time. xx

Missmodular · 31/05/2010 21:44

I'm still lurking!

Hurray for Nicholas walking Slick! I hope for the sake of your back that he doesn't do what Melissa's done and basically decided she prefers crawling. There I was at my parent's house, proudly announcing her toddlerdom, and she refused to walk unless someone was hunched over behind her, holding her hands and walking her along. Goddamit, I thought I was DONE with the baby phase. I know I shouldn't be wishing her life away but I'm getting so sick of the mess and stress of her crawling around on inappropriate floor surfaces. She's been doing it since she was five months - enough now please.

She is dead cute though - today she almost had all the actions to 'head, shoulders, knees and toes' down pat, much to the delight of DD1

Enjoy your honeymoon Lau - we're off on a family holiday in Spain next week, travel maladies permitting...

Kanga must've landed by now, huh? Hope you're doing well lady.

kanga5 · 01/06/2010 05:00

hello everyone it's me from Down Under!!!

We've made it, BA strikes, volcanoes, five kids and all...

Yey to Nicholas walking at last, the fun really starts when they walk.

welcome to biddysmama

have a lovely time on honeymoon laumiere...

by the way it has been raining BUCKETS in Sydney, so no one needs to be envious! Enjoy the summer days. Wasn't it a lovely weekend, just before we left. We had a farewell BBQ and although sad, we loved the sunny weather.
