Struggling to load pages these days and saw we were over the 900 so took the liberty of starting a new thread.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 08/10/2009 12:27

neenz Fingers crossed for a postive result very soon and Abdn fingers crossed for the job.

Very of all of you ttc and pregnant ladies at the moment. On three seperate occasions on tuesday I was asked if I am planning on a fourth. By the time the last person asked I asked if my stomach is really that big- she gave it a prod and said it wasn't solid enough!!!

neenz · 08/10/2009 13:05

Going

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 08/10/2009 13:11

Neenz, it's my own fault - DD2 has a sore throat so after dropping dd1 off at school we went to John Lewis cafe for hot chocolate and pastries. If I ate less cakes and chocolate my tummy wouldn't be so big!

whinegums · 08/10/2009 13:17

Nice to see you back Rolf. I'm 'working' from home today - I took B to the docs this morning as he has been a total snotfest this week, he's had some kind of rash and super gunky eyes. I wasn't too worried about the snot, the rash is post MMR, but I wanted to get his eyes checked for conjunctivitis. All is fine, and I dropped him off at nursery afterwards, and I'm REALLY enjoying the peace and quiet at home.

I'm copywriting this afternoon, which I like doing, so it's not going to take too long, so I may do a bit of packing too. DP went to take a look at the house yesterday, and all the scaffolding has now gone! Very exciting. We are expecting to get the keys on the 6th, but as he is on tour then, we're not going to be able to move everything and be living there for real until the following week. Which is still a week earlier than planned. Oh, I can't wait.

Abdn, fingers crossed on the job front.

I have read everything - even if I don't post, I try to pop in every day or so to keep up!

Loads of luck to the ttc'ers. Sponge, hope you get your way re induction etc.

BDQ, hope you're feeling better.

I know there's loads of other stuff going on which I've forgotten to post about...

spongebrainmaternitypants · 08/10/2009 13:31

Thanks for all your support re:bf - now I have to do it so I don't let you all down! Neenz, problem is will I be any less highly strung this time round?!

Oh and thanks for all your additions to my jewellery link - think I have persuaded dh that the bracelet I have fallen in love with is not actually the most expensive piece of jewellery that exists on the planet!

going, you sound like you had a very stressful end to your pg , glad you didn't have to wait too long for him to arrive once they'd said no to the induction!

And on the comments - some people are soooo rude!

AH, thank you - so do I! And good luck with the job .

Neenz, lol at your budgetting ways with using out of date HPTs! I would go and buy yourself a new one then at least you would know - but then I used to keep ClearBlue in business when I was ttc, I'm suprised they haven't gone into administration now !

whinegums, you must be sooo excited about the move - am I right in thinking that B will finally be in his own room when you move house! I love moving house, I just hate all the hassle that goes with it!

Well, I'm stuck at home with a poorly baby today - the joys of a new nursery. He had a temp of 39 last night, but slept through ok. I took him to Tescos this morning cos he seemed a bit perkier but just as I got him home he threw up all over me (yuck, yuck, yuck - can't cope with puke ). I cleaned him up and put him to bed at 9.30am and aside from a couple of cuddles and a bit of water he's been there ever since. Poor little mite .

PiggyPenguin · 08/10/2009 13:36

HiRolf good to see you are back. God the missing child thing is my worst nightmare. Luckily both my kids are complete wusses and if I am not in the right place in the playground at 3.20 will burst into tears rather than attempt the 5 minute walk home. This is still true of my 8 year old ds, who got a bit upset last week because I had moved from my usual place to chat to a friend and he couldn't see me Another mum had to tap me on the shoulder and point out that the loud wailing was coming from my eight year son who couldn't find mummy. He is a bit of a drama queen...

J is nowhere near 18-24 month clothes. In fact most of his sleepsuits are still 9-12 months as he is a bit embarassed in the inches department.

Today at Jo Jingles all the mums and babies had to squirt that alcohol hand cleaner stuff onto their hands before the session started. Apparently the class leader is worried about spreading germs now that we are in the 'coughs and colds season'. Given that J had his fingers back in his mouth in a nanosecond and proceeded to suck/chew his bells, shakey egg and twinkle star, does this seem a little ott to anyone other than me?

spongebrainmaternitypants · 08/10/2009 13:39

sybil, lol at the "embarrassed in the inches department"! Yes, your JJ teacher does sound OTT - bugs are part and parcel of life and there's bugger all you can do to stop young kids from catching them cos of their poor hygiene.

I can't relate to losing the older children yet - although Alex has managed to wander out of sight a couple of times, he isn't far.

However, when I was a teacher I lost a child on a school trip once - she was only gone ten mins but god was it a long ten minutes . And I did that classic mum thing of completely losing my rag with her when I found her cos I was so stressed . She never did it again!

poppy34 · 08/10/2009 13:44

Hi everybody ESP Rolf- neenz thanks for your update as helped my jetlagged brain catch up. And sympathies as no luck for me ttc this month. Anything else I need to know? Purée doubt dogtreats will do toddler much harm but may cause ructions if dog sees her as competition. Amber will read your posts properly but do sympathize re night feeding hardly helping ( dh being vintage dad better on that sort of thing by virtue of making mistakes before).

Had brilliant holiday despite jet lag first day or two- wedding was lovely and Edie looked cute. She loved swimming most (and the food) and was thoroughly spoiled. Will post more on facebook but bit depleted on energy today. Sorry to anyone I have missed

ktpie · 08/10/2009 13:47

Puree - Yum yum dog treats! I know someone who used to work for Pedigree and she used to eat the doggy chocolates, I think they make them all safe for human consumption.
The other day I got a delivery from Lush and it was packed in popcorn, which stank of the Lush perfumy smell, I walked into the room to find J with a mouthful munching away and another handful ready to go in! Horrible, doesn't seem to have done him any harm.

Sponge - I used to work in a clean room so had to wear a very funny outfit.
I'm not looking forward to starting to bf again, with J it took months for it to stop hurting, hope that second time around things will be easier.
Hope you manage to get an induction.

BDQ - how are you today? Did you get any sleep last night?

Abdn - good luck with the work.

Neenz - hope they are dodgy tests!

Whinegums - great that you are getting the house so soon!

Hope all the poorly babies are on the mend.

Sybil - that does sound OTT to me, and a bit pointless.

Amberc · 08/10/2009 14:04

Thanks for all the TTC comments on the other thread guys. Very useful - of and Sponge Clearblue have not gone into administration as what Essie is for Boden, I am for Clearblue!

Whinegums - did I misread? Your husband on tour? What is he some kind of popstar?!!!

Neenz - get a new test - blimey I would have been down to boots about 6 times by now!

Going - wow - can't believe people can be so rude but I know what you mean about a big tummy - guilty here too!

They have the antibac stuff at nursery too which seems silly as all the kids mouth the toys. Also isn't cold and flu virus air borne so will be breathed in anyway?

poppy - I have seen (and commented on) the pics on fb and Edie looks utterly beautiful. Those dresses are gorgeous and must have cost a fortune! Must have been a very sumptuous wedding.

Puree - the dog treats comment made me PMSL! Luke's never eaten anything like that but he is happy to much away on a 2 week old cheerio which has missed the vacuum cleaner (rather than eat my hand crafted meals)!

whinegums · 08/10/2009 14:22

PMSL at 'some kind of popstar' Amber. He's an opera director/producer.

Amberc · 08/10/2009 14:38

Hey - still supercool though! Do they get opera groupies?

neenz · 08/10/2009 14:47

lol at pop star - I thought he was a performer actually but now I remember you saying he is a director. How long will he be away for? Very exciting about the house!

My parents have sold their house and bought another just 10 mins drive from me . At mo they are 1hr 10mins away so I am made up. My other sisters are not so pleased. Two of them are now talking about going back to Australia . I hope they don't. Mum and Dad are moving on Nov 11!

Yes I am a cheapskate! I will buy a 'proper' test if I am still late at the weekend. But surely six months out of date is not going to be too long? What can happen to them sat on my bathroom shelf? I hope they are wrong tho! lol at Clearblue going out of business Sponge - it is a depressing time when they keep coming back negative, I remember it well. I am not so bothered this time, not yet anyway, I'd be happy for it to take a few more months if that's what it takes.

neenz · 08/10/2009 14:49

Sybil, not ott on the antibac at baby group, but at church they have started using it before communion and I do think, really, they should always use it, or wash their hands, before touching the bread and wine that is going in our mouths

whinegums · 08/10/2009 15:44

Yes, opera groupies, aka stage door johnnies (I've always loved that expression) abound. Mostly they are the blue rinse brigade, or slightly creepy older men who have nowt better to do. DP has quite a following for the talks he does - he does love the sound of his own voice...

Great news about your parents moving closer Neenz, but not so good about your sisters' reaction. Would they really move back to Oz because your parents are moving what is a relatively short distance away? Are they playing some games do you think?

Personally I am all for handwashing/antibac, etc etc etc. Since going back to work I have remembered how much I detest public transport - rubbing shoulders with the great unwashed/wincing as people cough up a lung/snotter everywhere and no sign of a handkerchief! Tut!!!

Neenz, I couldn't bear the bread and wine thing - apart from being a non-believer of course!!! - I couldn't drink from a shared cup like that. I'd be thinking COLD SORES! GERMS! Urghh! Am I coming over a bit OCD Howard Hughes... I'm not that bad honest. I don't mind B's baby slobber one bit!

bitofadramaqueen · 08/10/2009 16:40

Goingyo was the last person that asked a very close friend. I think I'd have decked anyone who prodded my stomach and made such a comment!

Abdn good luck on the job junt!

whinegums S got eye gunk really badly a lot when he first started nursery. I think it's all the germs that get passed about.

Sybil I think your JJ teacher was over-reacting a bit but good hand washing hygiene is good to instill so I can sort of see why they're doing it. However, I'm quite anti-alcohol hand gels because they made my hands all scabby and sore and now I have a sensitivity to any kind of detergent, hand wash etc. Beware of over-using them!

Neenz I've never really thought of the hygiene of communion. Although I'm not a wine girl (well, not at mass )

Rolf I don't think I said welcome back - also sorry to hear about your scary 10 minutes. Sounds terrifying!

Poppy I thought Edie looked very cute in her dress!

Still feeling a bit poorly - bit headachey and shivery and nearly passed out yesterday. Not quite sure what's wrong but enjoying taking it easy at home rather than being at work. Slept quite well last night ktpie - S didn't wake up till about 5am which is an improvement on the last few nights!

Sorry for everyone I've missed - feeling a bit spaced out too so not quite with it!

neenz · 08/10/2009 16:43

No Whinegums I am very much the same with the antibac - I have some with me at all times. I just take the tiniest sip possible of the communion wine and try not to think about it! The poor vicar has to drink the dregs of it tho . I have to look away when he does that - apparently they are not allowed to throw away 'the blood of Christ' so he has to drink it. Yuk!

neenz · 08/10/2009 16:51

Oh and with my sisters going to Oz, it is kind of a reaction to mum moving but also I think they just realise that where they live now is not ideal (just a bit of a rough area, it's where we grew up after moving from Oz and we went to the local schools and did fine, but my sis doesn't really want her DCs to go to the local high school). My second oldest sis has put her house on the market and will make a decision some time in future (if they sell) whether they will buy somewhere else in England or go to Oz. My youngest sister and her husband say they are definitely going to Oz in 18 months' time (her DC2 is due in January) but I think if Sister no2 doesn't go then youngest won't go either.

I don;'t think it is games necessarily, just the kick up the bum they needed really. My sis2 says she goes into the local Asda (Rochdale) and just thinks 'yuk, who are these people?'

I think they should move over to where we live (where mum is moving to) but they think it would be too expensive for them. Perhaps when they sell they might look at property prices here and find they can afford something. We'll see.

pureeandpearls · 08/10/2009 18:30

[waves to knackered Poppy]

thanks for dog comments- tbh not really that bothered but thought I'd look like a shit parent if I didn't at least ask....

Neenz- natural delivery in the sense that she came out the standard route, though was ventouse. Not that that bothered me either. See? I am a crap parent!! Also you are still getting Communion wine? They've banned it here to prevent spread of evil swine flu!

Whinegums- Opera? Very highbrow! Now I know what you mean when you were talking about employment not being conventional when you were looking at mortgages (does that mae any sense at all?)

Oh, and any suggestions please for pass the parcel gifts for a collection of Under Twos? Failing that another activity for a Pumpkin Party (they will also be decorating Pumpkin shapes as they are blatantly too little for carving.)

Special hugs to the lurgy-struck and those with poorly kids. It sucketh big style [Puree wanders off to find antibac foamy stuff she has somewhere....]

thread for party question

OP posts:
spongebrainmaternitypants · 08/10/2009 20:00

Welcome back poppy, the dress was gorgeous .

Neenz, that's great news about your parents. Are you actually Australian then or are your parents English? I have to say if I had dual nationality I'd be on the first plane out of here, but that's just me . . . !

I'm with whinegums on the communion thing - yuck! I'm surprised that more churches haven't followed the lead of puree's and stopped doing it. Unhygeniec at the best of times but at the moment . . .

puree, I swoon at the domestic goddess-ness of organising a party for under-twos and can offer you no more useful advice than "are you mad?"!!!

DebInAustria · 08/10/2009 22:52

Just getting this back onto my threads, had Dad here, fitting kitchen, viewing tomorrow, will catch up at the weekend.

pureeandpearls · 09/10/2009 08:53

waves to Debs.

Mad, Sponge, definitely mad

OP posts:
ktpie · 09/10/2009 11:41

Hi Debs! I was wondering where you were!

Amber - J has a talent for finding manky old shreddies that have escaped cleaning attempts, lovely.

I'm a bit of a handwashing freak but not so keen on the antibac stuff, or alcohol gel (although it is useful it there isn't a sink), I get bad excema on my hands if I use strong detergents.
The wine thing sounds horrible, glad I don't go to church!

Neenz - how will it effect things if you sisters do move to Oz? Would your parents think about moving back there as well? Are you tempted to go? (I think I would be!)

Puree - the party makes me feel tired just thinking about it!

BDQ - hope you are feeling better today.

Whinegums - I'm impressed by your DPs groupie gathering!

X posted before Poppy, sounds like you had a good time.

I didn't sleep well last night, starting to get an achy back at night and couldn't get comfy, had a bit of a nap this morning while J was having his nap. It's cold here today so we are sat in front of the fire. In fact it's getting a tad warm but if I open the door J goes off to the kitchen and switches the oven on! In fact he has just opened it himself so I'd better go and prevent a catastrophe!

neenz · 09/10/2009 12:59

ktpie, sympathies on the sleep front, I remember it was impossible to sleep toward the end with the DTs, I was hoping that with a singleton I might be ok (I see women who are about to pop and they are only as big as I was at 7mths - and I was fine up to 7mths)

Well I have bitten the bullet and bought a proper (ie in date ) PG test. Another negative this morn with the out of date tests, and had a little look on google and apparently out of date ones are pretty unreliable, there's a surprise. My temp is still high (it drops just before period starts) so if it still high tomorrow morn I will test with a proper test. I am two days late now I think (if I got OV day right)

Sponge, I have got dual nationality, my parents are British born but have Oz citizenship. They wouldn't move out there permanently but if my sister(s) went then they would spend at least 3mths a year out there. Me and DH were thinking we'd buy a holiday home out there (as an investment and as somewhere to stay), then we would try to go visit every year.

I am not that tempted to move there. I don't like really hot weather (it's Brisbane they are going so very hot) although the wet Uk winters do pee me off. It would be up to DH really. If he really wanted to then I would, but he is a partner in his firm and things are going really well and he'd have to take more exams so he could practise there. Also I really like where we live, I don't find it rat race-y iyswim which I think is one reason people move to Oz, for a slower pace of life. It is not that much cheaper to live there eg food is quite expensive, although property is cheaper. It is really chilled living here and I like it. If it ain't broke... I also believe that where you live is a very small part of what makes you happy ie if you are not that happy with your life in the UK then moving is not going to magically fix things. You still have to go to work, look after your kids and get on with the same husband iyswim .
