Hi everyone. Thought it was time we have a post-natal thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hi all,

Pink, sorry to hear about little O, as the others have said, at least they've caught it early and can do something about it.
Mrs W, I sympathise with the colic. Emsee has colic, very bad last night. I've got her on infacol, and think that may be easing it for her, as she does the occasional enormous fart, but the screaming is horrible, it sounds so painful.
Yes, she also went crossed eyed a couple of times yesterday, which freaked me out, but then read Miriam, and she put my mind at rest.
Well, dh and I have not even managed to get to two weeks before our first, "I'm tired and cross" row which I feel really guilty about.
Never mind, must resolve never to row infront of ds.
Must go, ds or dd calling, can't tell which one from here.

Lua · 04/07/2005 09:55

Morning all!

Trib, sorry to hear from the trush. But I hear is very common! Make sure you don't develop it in your nipples also. Not that I know how to prevemt it...

Good to hear from you RHM. Cool name you gave DS!
In regards to pacifier, I've benn a bad mummy and gave DS one on day 3. I guess there is the idea that if you give too early it can cause nipple confusion. However, DS was such a avid feeder that I decided nothing would confuse him.. . So far so good. With my DD I waited for 3 or 4 weeks . She was a terrible feeder and was afraid it would get in the way... It was OK. I suppose if you iontroduce slowly and see how it goes, it should be OK. If you notice any effect on bf you can take it away.

Jonah, 21 oz in a week? that is really good. He will be bigger than you soon!
I dare you to beat my monster eater, tripple chin DS by our meeting!

Ds and DD has been unsettled this weekend. Is it the moon, or something?
DD decided after almost a year of being potty trained that she is afraid of the toilet. So, she hold on to her pee, since 7 PM last night and this morning flooded the bathroom floor!
DS is finally sleeping for 3 hours straight... during the day! Oh well... is a start...
So with all this disruptions I am drinking loads of coffee and tea. Does any of the fellow bfeeders know how much caffeine is too much?

Lua · 04/07/2005 09:56

p>S: Franni weel done for holding on for two weeks. I was rowing with DH on day 1!!!!

welshmum · 04/07/2005 10:13

Morning all,
Pink - sorrry to hear about your little one, I hope that everything goes ok now they've spotted it and you get looked after well by the hospital.
Ds is right there with everyone else - no routine at all, feeds whenever he likes, won't sleep in the evening now until we go to bed at 10ish - I really will have to sort that out!
Tea - with colic - I though ds had that then I read a bit and realised he didn't - because he wasn't screaming continually. So I've 'treated' the windy farty symptoms with alternate doses of infacol and 2.5 ml gripe water before most feeds (unless I forget) and that does seem to have worked quite well - unless it 's just been timed with his little digestive system maturing (could easily be).
I've also been drinking copious amounts of fennel tea which someone told me was good for them - he'll be getting the benfit through breast milk I guess. I know some people give a weak infusion directly to their babies - haven't been driven to this yet.
Incidentally if anyone's own digestive system hasn't settled down after pg I reccommend the fennel tea - I was a bit constipated (tmi?) but didn't want to take anything really as it wasn't too bad. Anyway the fennel tea has been a miracle cure - fab stuff.
I'm trying to do womething about the co-sleeping too - he's 6 weeks tomorrow and I have to sort it so last night he did go into his basket for most of the night - only coming into me at 4.30 which felt like progress. It's hard work though....had forgotten just how hard.
Hey ho - love to all from the Welshie homestead.

bubbaloo · 04/07/2005 10:58

morning all,

trib-oscar also has a white tongue.think i'll mention it to the health visitor incase he also has thrush.i think thtas really nice that you've had the same midwife who delivered your ds come over.i had midwives from a different hospital come to see us,as i had oscar in a different borough to where we live.

we're also using a dummy when ds is particulary grizzly.have tried offering a finger, but he latches onto it with such force thats it's not easy to retrieve it.

tea and franni-sorry to hear of your dd's colic.must be awful listening to them scream.

we seem to have a problem with hiccups lately.ds gets them and they last for ages and make him really miserable and uncomfortable.

well dh went back to work today so it's just the two of us now which has been interesting.i changed my first pooey nappy this morning-lol!!!

katzguk · 04/07/2005 12:01

morning, well nearly afternoon

DD2 is still sleeping well, even after i worked out i was probably cooking her to sleep!! after reading here how little everyone elses babies were going to bed in. I am evening hoping that DH and i could go out for dinner this week, as my mum is back (yeah - someone to iron, cook and clean!) and DD1 goes to bed at 7 and DD2 goes down at 8ish and sleeps until 1/2am. So should hopefully be able to grab a kick bite to eat.

Do we have a venue for the meet up next week? really looking foward to it. just need to check train times

Cooperoo · 04/07/2005 15:01

Hello Ladies
Sorry I have not been around for what feels like forever. Have been having a lovely time with DH at home! Oh and the new baby and dd1 are keeping me busy too.
Pink - So sorry to hear about little O's troubles. So glad they caught it so early and that the treatment is so effective. I don't envy you having to watch your baby undergo all those tests though. Poor you.
Well dd2 is beginning to wake a bit more in the days. She still wakes for feeds every 2-3 hours (yawn) but at night generally settles right away and during the day spends some time looking around at everything now. She is a bit whingy during the days now and likes to be held but that is lovely for us too as she is not yet 2 weeks old so we are loving it really. The m/w has signed me off and the HV has been to see me today. We have a docs appt tomorrow to double check that d2 is ok to fly but everyone is happy that there are no problems so we get the passport tomorrow and fly home on Wed. Hooray.
Sorry for being so slack and I don't know whether I will be able to check in much when I am in the UK either. I will be back with a vengeance in August though....
Take care all.

redheadmum · 04/07/2005 20:14

glad you like the name! we've had a v mixed reaction (as expected) with the family coming out against.

fear not Fran, I lost it after week one in my sleep deprivation haze, and just let rip. Have tried to restrain myself since....and be (ahem) mature, rising above - etc etc ;)

Welsh - thanks for the tips on the other thread, will be obtaining said fennel tea asap. Just hope something works!!

am seeing MW tmw so will get tongue checked....

must get off now and get some FOOD I'm starving!

PinkArjuna · 04/07/2005 20:14

Well little Osiris seems to have gotten himself into a routine without me doing anything about it. I just noticed when looking at my feeding times today that he likes to feed at the same time (approx) everyday. Also his sleeping pattern seems to be almost the same too. I find I seem to he having a bath around the same time every day when the little guy is asleep. Saying that I'm not too bothered but he seems to be hungry at the same intervals which means he is kinda keeping a rhythm.

Saying this when he starts on the thyroxine he'll probably be bumping off the walls and ruin my new found peace and contentment!

Lua - I don't think you should worry; it showed up on the heal prick screening test.

Well I'm off to bed now take care everyone

PinkArjuna · 04/07/2005 20:17

Ps - redheadmum I think Fox is the coolest name ever, I always thought it when I watched the x-files too....

think my DD is joining the thrush club! started a thread about her pulling off mid feed and soemone suggested thrush. went to look on nhsdirect and dd fits the symptoms, unfourtuneatl i think she may have given it to me too - i fit the description too, had just put soreness down to improved sucking anf itchiness down to the heat and shooting pains down to blocked ducts! Doh

JonahB · 05/07/2005 08:55

Morning all,
Katz, we haven?t chosen a venue for next week as far as I know. There is a pizza express v. close to Bravissimo, which has been recommended by my friend with a toddler. Apparently, they were v. accommodating when he created havoc in there (the toddler, not my friend). Don?t know if that?s the sort of thing you had in mind.
Also, I just wanted any of you getting a train to Piccadilly to know that bravissimo is about a 15 min walk from the station. I don?t know if this is a problem or not but I wanted to make you aware. There is a tram which would take you closer and obviously taxis.
Lua, any suggestions or thoughts?

Tessiebear · 05/07/2005 08:59

Just reading through this thread - and i know this advice may be absolute rubbish - and i know that my baby is still in my tummy and not yet keeping me up at night crying - but i have read that swaddling can calm a baby down and reduce colic (dont know how). Just thought i would say ..... {tiptoes back to the due in June thread - which has passed me by }

welshmum · 05/07/2005 10:07

Morning all,
I feel pretty dreadful today - I think the sleep deprivation is catching up with me, I had an awful night with ds - mostly my fault as I was too tired to wind him properly and then he was sick all over me later, then needed more food as he was hungry and then got really windy and on and on and on it went. I thought I'd sleep this morning when he has his big sleep but they're doing work on the road outside I know it's all to be expected and that it will all change soon but still I'm bloody well knackered out. This mummy lark - I'd forgotten how difficult it is and to top it all dd is being such a delightful creature I feel I've got no energy to share with her which is really upsetting me - I hate it when my only goal is to get through the day.
Sorry about the moaning but felt I could do it here.
Hope you're all in better shape than me.

Lua · 05/07/2005 10:23

Welshie, you have my full sympathies. I think I just hit the same stage myself. The lack of sleep does do that to us. I decided today I was going to do some chores so I can feel like I accomplish a few things besides feding baby...
I think the weather becoming grey also gets to me. Would you fancy joining me for a holliday in the caribe to check out my hypothesis?

Lua · 05/07/2005 10:29

Jonah, Pizza express sounds good to me! Unless people have preference for some specific cuisine? There are korean, japanese, chinese, indian, dutch pancake, and lots more.. But is true, none is a 2 min walk from the station.. How do you feel abot this MrW and Katz? I could swing by and get one of you in the car (I have 2 car seats in the car suitable for babies) if needed...

MrsWednesday · 05/07/2005 10:56

Lua, can I come to the Caribbean with you?

Another one who had a bad night here. DS2 woke up loads, and not for feeding either he was just awake, kicking and waving his legs around and grunting. It went on for hours and nothing I did made a difference. Now of course he is fast asleep and I'm stressing because I think he shouldn't be asleep so much during the day otherwise he won't sleep tonight. Arrrrrggggggggh. DS1 also got up in the night so was tired this morning and sobbed his heart out when I dropped him off at nursery so I generally feel like the worst mummy in the world today.

Bubb, how did your first solo day go yesterday?

Looking forward to seeing all the northern babies on Monday! I was going to drive over but if you think it's easier (I don't know Manchester very well) I'll catch the train. Pizza Express sounds good to me.

Lynny, sounds like you are having a tough time with Jessica, you must have massive amounts of patience to have only lost your rag once. Really hope it improves soon.

Welshie, I'm going to get some of that fennel tea you mentioned to see if that helps DS2 settle a bit.

Right, off to eat something and then try and have a sleep (although DS2 has a tendency to wake up as soon as I close my eyes for a nap).

welshmum · 05/07/2005 12:12

Count me in for the Carribean too Lua.
I feel a bit better now - managed to get about an hours kip - luxury.
I guess we're into that whole second guessing the baby stage 'if he sleeps then will he sleep then' phase. I remember it so well from the last time.
Have good days all - and thanks for the sympathy -it really is much appreciated, don't know how I did without you all the 1st time round.

bubbaloo · 05/07/2005 13:54

afternoon all,

another one here,feeling sleep deprived.
shoudnt grumble really as ds is a really good baby and doesnt cry much-just grizzles untill he's picked up.
mrsw-yesterday went better than i expected but i was so pleased to see dh come in from work that i was asleep on the sofa by 7pm.
i really dont know how people with twins or more cope-ha ha!!
talking of sleep...im off for a nap while ds is counting zzzzzzzzzzzz's.

redheadmum · 05/07/2005 19:14

hi all

so good to hear everyone suffering the same....it really is a killer not getting enough sleep. I'm dreadful as i hate being on my own with crying baby at 3 in the morning. My Dh reliably informs me that I huff and puff and sigh until he half wakes and asks me if I'm OK. Bad, bad girl!!!

at least we have Sky am catching up on news, latest movies, trash TV......

katzguk · 05/07/2005 20:35

hi all

Lua if MrsW does drive over then i would love a lift from the station, i was planning on just using the sling, so much easier for me.

must go and look at traintimes.

Franniban · 06/07/2005 04:29

Hi girls,
Well, ds is up the road with my bestfriend, and dd is sleeping, so I'm catching up on sleep!
We've had a better few days, and had a lovely day yesterday with my NCT girls, with lots of lovely gifts for Esmee, and lots of tea and chocolate, and it's great for Oscar to have his play mates.

Glad to hear that things seem to be settling down for people, sorry have quickly scanned thread. It's so hard to catch up!
Take care all XX

JonahB · 06/07/2005 09:01

Welshie, sorry to hear you had a bad day yesterday. I empathise with the sick issue. Whenever Isaac is sick, it puts us both off kilter as he wants to constantly snack and I have no idea how much more milk he needs, therefore how long to let him get tetchy. Hope you have a better day today

Bubb, glad yesterday went well.

Mrs Wed, if Lua is collecting Katz from the station and you would prefer to drive, you are welcome to come via my house and follow me in your car. Alternatively, I can give you directions to a nearby carpark?
