Hi everyone. Thought it was time we have a post-natal thread.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
katzguk · 21/06/2005 14:35

i'm another member of the baby in our bed club!! was a little shocked this morning to wake up and find my boob still hanging out - must have fallen asleep mid feed!!

MrsWednesday · 21/06/2005 14:46

Count me in that club too! I'm scared to change things because he's only waking up once a night at the moment and I am enjoying the sleep. Bless him, he sleeps snuggled up to my side with his head in my arm-pit

Lua, that sounds like a lovely way to spend the day! DS2 is fast asleep at the moment, so I'm tempted to have a nap myself.

Good to see you Lynny, and happy birthday for yesterday. You sound so happy in comparison to the last few weeks of your pregnancy. It's lovely that Leona is coping so well with it all.

Still breast-feeding here, and it's definitely going better this time round, now that the soreness of the weekend is going away. For some reason I don't feel as embarassed and uncomfortable about it as I did with DS1. I am needing to eat loads though.

When are we allowed to start exercising, anyone know? I really want to do something about my saggy stomach but presume I have to wait until my 6 week check?

Lua · 21/06/2005 16:33

Mrs.W I think "real" exercise should wait until 6 weeks. But, MW gave me a sheet with easy abdominals and (yes) pelvic floor exercises! I also decided I willl start walking everyday at least 1/2 hour or so to start getting aerobic capacity back up and enjoy the weather!

Welshie, yes I am still DS larger than life bottle.... He feeds constantly and I swear he is growing a cm a day! Is so weird because DD remained so tiny for such a long time! They are the opposite in every possible way!

BTW DS has already overgrown his newborn clothes. Anyone knows anyone that needs lots of vests and babygrows used onece ot twice?

So.. are the northerners ready to start talking about trying to get together and show off their beautiful bundles? I thought by sometime in July I'll be dying to find something to do with my time... Anyone else?

MrsWednesday · 21/06/2005 16:59

Oooh yes, the meet-up sounds like a great idea Lua, count us in.

I just can't believe how much DS2 is sleeping - he's been fast asleep for most of the day, just waking up every couple of hours for a quick feed then he's back to sleep again. Is this normal????

berolina · 21/06/2005 17:20

Hi all - and hello summermummy.
oh yes, bf... ds was attached to me for a lot of yesterday and the day before - keeping waking, wanting a feed, falling asleep over it, waking again, feeding... I've been having the 2-hour feeding sessions too... Today, although it's just as yukkily hot, it's a bit different though - he will have frequent short feeds and then fall asleep for a while (sounds pretty much the same as you MrsW). Hope he's OK! Am still pretty nervous with the whole bf thing as we've only established it so recently - am paranoid about him not getting enough, dehydration etc. For those who are no longer bf - don't feel bad - at a point when I wasn't sure whether it was going to work out I had to comtemplate the idea of giving up and it really is the most important thing that you are happy. I was getting horribly down about the whole thing and realised I'd stopped enjoying my beautiful ds. After that point I relaxed about it and ironically then it slowly started coming together. I've just been very lucky that it seems to be working out after all.

starshaker · 21/06/2005 17:21

dont supose there is any1 here needing any newborn clothes

katzguk · 21/06/2005 17:50

i'm up for a meet too. DD1 is in nursery on mon and fri until the middle of July and DH is home on weds and all day from mid July.

Leeds or Manchester? i wouldn't mind going to the bravissimo shop.

uwila · 21/06/2005 19:31

Hmmm... I'm feeling neglected here. How 'bout a southern meet-up then? I think we talked about reading at our last lunch as it seemed to be the neutral ground, anyone interested? Sometime in July before the 20th (when mymum arrives) would suit me). I go back to work 15 August so after that I'm only around on the weekends.

OP posts:
uwila · 21/06/2005 19:33

Oh yes, DS is saying goodbye to his newborn clothes now. We've moved up to the 0-3 month ones.

Charley, how are you for newborn clothes? Do you want/need any? I address Charley specifically because she lives near me and hasn't had little pod yet so presumably he small/young enough to make use of them.

Lua · 21/06/2005 20:10

Well, I. of course, vote for Manchester!!
We do have 2 mums here, maybe 3 if Mogwai wants to join us. So it might make sense.

katz, is there a bravissimo store here? Do you know where it is?

Maybe we should try for a monday?

MrsWednesday · 21/06/2005 20:26

A Monday in Manchester would be good for me as DS1 is in nursery on Mondays.

katzguk · 21/06/2005 20:29

manchester and monday is fine for me too, can drop DD1 off at nursery at 9am then would take 30mins to get to train station then train is about 1h20mins so lunchtime!!

will ask midwife tomorrow about bravissimo, shes local to manchester and goes to the shop when home

berolina · 22/06/2005 10:15

Mooooorning!!! (am feeling very happy and bouncy today )
Samuel had his 4-6 week check at the paediatrician's today. All is fine - he's 3480g now which is just about on target - so I'm very pleased. His hips are also fine, which is a big relief as I had a dislocated hip as a baby with all sorts of complications and sometimes these things run in families. Afterwards we went for an ice-cream and coffee and I bf in public for the first time - was a bit nervous as worried about attracting nasty comments in our small town in very conservative southern Germany but there was nothing - apart from possibly a couple of 'looks' from an older couple at a nearby table - but otherwise it was fine! It was also lovely to get out and spend time out of the flat. Am about your meet-up - would love to be there too.

PinkArjuna · 22/06/2005 14:49

Hello
Right can I post here now?

Not much happening - watching the tennis. Oh and I'm getting a bit angry because the breast feeding bra fitter isn't answering her phone I can't get these boobs into anything They are bigger than Jorden's only they seem to be alot more saggy

Well Osiris seems to be a good baby. I thought it was supposed to be alot harder than this. Though I am sure something will happen now and I'l eat my words. The little guy only cries when he is really hungry or when his nappy is dirty and it is kinda a whimper which doesn't go into full cry unless you are busy and don't pick up on the whimpering.

The feeding is going well. My milk came in on the 2nd day and I couldn't fit into any of my bra's to wear breast pads so had milk dribbling down my legs. I have one crop top I can fit on

He already pretty much sleeps through the night. Just needing a feed at about 1am when I haven't actually gone to bed yet. I never slept much before I was pregnant so I don't really feel sleep deprived. I do feel fatiqued though, the wound is still pretty painful.

We had our first outing this morning around the village all tucked up in the hug a bub

God Berolina I can't believe Samuel is so old now it only seems like a week or so ago.

We have to have a southern meet up, though saying that we are still waiting for a few babies to be born.

Uwila - I seem to have mountains of newborn clothes which are swamping my little guy, otherwise I would have taken you up on the offer. Osiris is really long but really thin. I think he could wear premature nappies easily. Some of the newborn ones are too big and they leak It'll be ages before I can get his bum in my Tots bots...

You know I have noticed the muscles contracting when I am feeding. It was quite painful one day in the hospital and I never really realised that this was what happened until the midwife said. The people at Southmead were really good. I'm glad Osiris is feeding so well despite having the C - section. He seems to have caught on really fast it really helped all the breat feeding classes I went to before though. I just remember all the things that are supposed to happen and don't persist with bad positioning. I haven't so much as a sore nipple. it was difficult when the milk came in though - he practically bounced off and god they ached.

Anyway I must go and watch the tennis. I have got to finish this film so I can have the photo's developed and scanned in to put up on the baby page.

You know will us southies ever meet the northies?

LipstickMum · 22/06/2005 14:55

Pink, I'm so happy things are going well for you post birth And you're getting to see most of the tennis, bliss or what!

PinkArjuna · 22/06/2005 15:05

absolutely though I am mortified he doesn't fit into his Wimbledon babygrow or his tennis nappies!

Lua · 22/06/2005 15:05

Pink, your DS seem to be like mine in shape. He is a "normal" size, but he is so long, that in reality he is pretty skinny. We tried 4 diffferent brands of disposables before we found somethingthat didn't link. In case you are wondering huggies were the smallest of all, and sainsbury own brand seemed to be the best of containing the mess... Pampers and morrison's were terrible!
Enjoy the tennis!

Lua · 22/06/2005 15:08

So.... which Monday????

Katz, I checked bravissimo web ppage and their store is on Downtown. Which will be pretty convenient if you all are coming by train. But by car would be a nightmare to park there. Should I find a baby friendly place for lunch or a "ladies of leasure" kind of place?
Jonah, are you coming? Any ideas? You know M'cr much better than I do!

katzguk · 22/06/2005 15:13

lua - i will be coming on the train,DH has the car not that i drive!!

summermummy · 22/06/2005 20:20

Evening everyone - hopefully I'll be able to keep up with this thread a bit more once dp goes back to work tomorrow. We've spent the last 2 days enjoying the last of this honeymoon period before the real world intrudes! I thought we were going to have an evening of reminiscing over the last 2 weeks but my nostalgia's been ditched for Rusedski and beer..not suprising really ds is having his evening witching hour which makes us feel ever so slightly less nostalgic!! He's quite good normally, sleeps at night in his own bed, sleeps during the day but fusses and cries every single evening for about 3 hours.

Does anyone else still feel like their hormones are going crazy ? I get really weepy over anything to do with the pregnancy and birth even though I didn't like being pregnant at the time and the birth was not great..but now it all seems like the best time ever..even got a bit teary when I saw all my ante-natal appointments in my diary. Must be mother nature's way of deluding you into wanting you to do it again..or I'm just going completely mad!!

Berolina - its brilliant that you kept going with the breastfeeding..I read your thread when I was having my own problems and looked at all the breastfeeding threads. I now regret finishing so early but I read that as I'm still producing milk in tiny amounts I might be able to restart but I don't know whether thats a good idea or whether I'd just be putting me and ds through the wringer again.

Sorry long post - should be concentrating on Rusedski or at least my crying son who's testing his daddy's patience I think - he's slept, eaten, puked, pooed and had a bath..there can't be that much else for an 11 day old to worry about can there ?!

JonahB · 22/06/2005 21:57

Hi all,

I?m a bad Junie (hanging head in shame). I just haven?t had the chance to come online regularly, so this is my first foray onto this thread. So, hello!!

I?m feeding Isaac while typing, so this may take a while. The bf is going quite well ? I?m a little sore but its manageable. My main problem time seems to come from about 6pm-1am, when isaac just doesn?t seem to want to settle. We made a bit of a breakthrough tonight when we got him down for a couple of hours between 8pm-10pm, so fingers crossed the new technique will work again. It?s just so hard knowing what to do for the best.

Katz/Lua, a northern meet up sounds great. Bravissimo is right in the centre of m?cr,in The Triangle (a smallish shopping arcade). I got my maternity bras from there ? they did 2 in my size and were really good about measuring me etc. I?m not sure of child friendly places to eat in the centre, but I?ll ask around some of my friends. If its sunny, I know of places we can sit outside, which maybe would be nice. How does the 4th July sound?

MrsWednesday · 22/06/2005 22:28

Summermummy and JonahB, my DS is like this in the evenings too - he doesn't seem to know what he wants but he definitely doesn't want to sleep (unless he's lying on my shoulder being patted on the back). I asked my midwife about it and she said it's very common for babies to be unsettled at this time of day but she didn't give me any useful tips to sort it.

Glad the feeding is going well Jonah.

welshmum · 23/06/2005 10:35

Hello all - Welcome aboard Pink - I didn't realise you'd had a c-section - have you written about it somewhere (nosey icon) glad things are going well - have you got any arnica? Might help a bit with recovery - think it helped me.
I'm up for a meet - do we need to wait until more southern Junies have delivered?
We have restless evenings in the Welshie homestead too - although we have had the occasional 3 hour kips. I wonder if it's to do with milk supply being a bit low and the babies winding down after very stimulating days? I just seem to feed and feed ds when he's like this.
Anyone else got a very windy baby? Honestly he wriggles and farts and burps for ages - usually at about 5am, poor little love.
I'm trying to keep up with the world now - am going to try parent and bay cinema this morning - and am also listening to the new Coldplay cd alot - this feels like keeping up to me. Anyone got that Jeff Blunt CD (spelling?) was wondering if it's any good......

uwila · 23/06/2005 11:55

Mornin'... It is still morning isn't it? I know what you mean about struggling to keep up with things. If I leave the house with two kids who are dressed, changed, and fed by noon I get a gold star (or at least I would if I ever accomplished that task).

And as 12:00 is sic minutes away I haven't gotten in the shower yet... well won't be making it today. But we are meeting a friend for an afternoon at the playfround in 2 hours, so I best get moving.

Hi everybody!
Uwila, you actually manage to get out with two?! You are my hero! I confess DS and I are doing really well and I am so in love with him,. But, I get quite stressed out when DH and DD comes home {blush]... I feel so divided between DD and DS. And DD being so difficult right now is not helping.... Everything is no! Is that just her terrible twoness finally come through, or is it some covert ways to say she wants more attention? All I can say is thank heavens for nurseries!!

BTW, health visitor just came by and we weighed DS... OMG, the "not so little anymore" guy had gain 3lbs in 3weeks!!!! No wonder he is not fitting in any of his clothes anymore!

So, northern gals... is this weather going to continue for long enough that I should buy some larger summer clothes for baby?
