How about meeting at pizza express at 12:30?
Katz, sorry, with the sun I got caught and didn't email you. I want to let you know that the extra baby chair I have is a britax that I use for DD. It can be used from birth, but is currently set to be use facing forwards. I wanted to make sure you are confortable with that...
Let me know

JonahB · 10/07/2005 10:37

12.30 is fine with me.

Here are the details of where it is (hope this works):
www.pizzaexpress.co.uk/rest/rd300.htm
Lua, the Triangle is opposite M&S's main entrance, if you are looking out towards the Printworks. Pizza Express is on the bottom floor. I've never been, so dont shoot me if its awful Let me know if this means anything to you.

Mrs Wed, let me know if you need me to do anything for you.

LipstickMum · 10/07/2005 12:46

Hi all

Pizza Express is usually a good place to meet, I've never known them to vary much in quality... ummmm those dough balls You lucky lot!!!

Lynny, we live really close! I'm surprised you weren't at the hospital I was. We live about 10 minutes south of Bicester though...

Another decent night with dd2. Constant feeding most of the evening, last feed at around 10. Then she slept until 4:45, fed for 30 minutes then slept most of the morning, until about 8. Seems as though the constant drinking really keeps the vlolume of milk up, especially towards the end of the day and at night, when it's pretty crucial. Anyway, take each night as it comes!!

I'm off for some lunch, am off the soft cheese and onto the pate big time!!

Haven't really been into the alcohol much yet I wasn't much of a big drinker anyway.

By the way, Welshie My dp bought an ice cream maker a couple of weeks ago and has been experimenting with it ever since. His best discovery is G&B's chocolate ice-cream!!!!! Oh. My. Goodness> I thought of you immediately His tastes just like the branded stuff and believe me I have eaten a litre or so just to be sure It's got egg yolks, cream, melted G&B's cooking choc umm and I think he added egg white to make it lighter. My god, it's so good Send dh out for one, stat!!!

MrsWednesday · 10/07/2005 14:22

Just a quick post as we are having a fraught afternoon here (DS2 has had a couple of bad nights so we are all tired, apart from DS1 who is just a toddler/wind-up merchant at the moment ).

See you at 12.30 tomorrow. Jonah, I think I'll probably be ok but just to be on the safe side could you or Lua CAT me with your mobile number so I can ring you if I get lost? I've changed email address since I left work so have no way of getting in touch with you now. Ta very much.

welshmum · 10/07/2005 14:37

Lippy - get hubby to make you some rice pudding ice cream - I had it in Italy once and it was just the business - although the G&B does sound fab too.
I thought of you yesterday. I was in John Lewis choosing mascara - found a lovely (new I think) Dior one called Dior Show. It's pretty flash and smells delicious.
Tea - glad you've found something to help with the yelling - the fennel/infacol/gripe solution has worked wonders for us - or his tummy has just grown a bit. Whatever it is we now don't have a farty monster for 2 hours 4-6am!

tribpot · 10/07/2005 15:05

Excellent tips from Tea, just wondering how people are getting on with their slings in general. We have a baby Björn and a fabric sling, Tricot Slen. So far the baby Björn seems v difficult to put on, and with the Slen, he ends up looking rather uncomfortable to me, lying down rather than in the more upright position that's better for his wind. Are we just doing it wrong with the Slen? It certain looks like the baby should be more upright based on the pictures.

I guess the other problem we've got is that now that it's hot again, it's difficult to think of putting him in the sling.

katzguk · 10/07/2005 16:12

Lua - car seat sounds fine, hope its not too much hastle to make it rear face!

Which train station?

shall i email you my mobile number?

LipstickMum · 10/07/2005 16:39

Welshie, I'm afraid to say rice pudding and other pudings of that ilk make me vomit I just can't tolerate them, so I'll be giving that particular ice-cream a miss Ooh, new mascara eh?? I think I found a lipstick close to my ultimate shade, perhaps the quest is over???

Dd2 is windier than dd1 ever was. I think because she guzzles down that milk so quickly ( and let's face it, it's there in abundance atm ) she gets overwhelmed and has to dribble a bit back out!!! No colic signs as yet, god I hope not!!!

Are everyone's babies just out for the count in this heat too????

Trib, I used a Bjorn like sling today ( never got round to one of the funky, south american rainforest ones) and couldn't stand it in the heat. If I were you, with just one baby, I'd just stick with the pram/buggy whatever. It leaves you hands-free and cool. You'll get to grips with opening doors and stuff like that.

Time to go, dp wants to "do something". Why isn't he making me more ice cream???

Ooooh I'm jealous of you lot meeting!!!!!!!

Lua · 10/07/2005 18:12

Katz, you do have my email, right? Do send me your phone # and I'll call you.

katzguk · 10/07/2005 18:39

have email mobile and home numbers

Lynny, Jessica has been seen and admired here, she looks like a sweetheart. Although I might revise that opinion if there was sound to go with the image

I am trying not to feel like the most negligent mother in Christendom because my ds generally settles better with daddy than mummy. Sometimes I am The One but mostly it's dad. And no, there seems to be no pattern to it whatsoever, it's complete trial and error every single time. What fun!

Ds has been resolutely not out for the count in this heat, wanting to be fed every two hours today. Weirdly, the health visitor seemed a bit sniffy about this on Friday and suggested a vari-flow teat, as if either we weren't feeding him enough, or it should be too much trouble for us to feed him every couple of hours during the day (fortunately he is more civilised at night). I wonder if she just had to find something to suggest we change? We tried but he hated it, so we switched back.

tribpot · 10/07/2005 20:59

Oh and PS KVG I know exactly how you feel. I expected it to be difficult, but not this difficult, and ds has been an absolute angel up until now. (Apart from bf, grr). The utter feeling of inadequacy - I have an ABBA song going round in my head all the time called "If It Wasn't For The Nights" - somehow the daytime is tolerable, particularly as dh is on hand, but at night I may be on my own if he's had a bad day and can't wake up, and there's no predicting when these days are going to happen. Most of the time he takes the brunt of it at night and I actually get quite a lot of sleep, but the uncertainty, and knowing I have to be the one to wake up when he cries, is always there. Having said that, having a dh who can sleep through the baby crying is not just a feature of our household I think.

berolina · 10/07/2005 21:30

evening all...
can i join the roll call of grouchy/colicy (?) babies? samuel has been quite unsettled for a while now. he is soothed well by feeding, feeds a lot (during day - nights he tends usually to go for 4 hrs or more, phew) and gets to sleep well in car or baby björn, but does tend to cry and grizzle quite a lot. we also don't reckon he sleeps enough! here is our shortlist of possible causes:

  • colic, poss trapped wind (he is often quite a reluctant burper. we went to stay with sil and family today and her mum reckons it's trapped wind)
  • silent reflux (although i'm not convinced of that one)
  • probs with head due to ventouse birth. our paediatrician said no need to take him to an osteopath, but i was speaking to a bf counsellor who said the med profession is terribly sceptical about osteopathy, although it so often works wonders - we're going to try and get a referral another way or just pay for initial consultation. as i said, we are at bil (dh's brother), sil and their family - 2 kids (girl 9, boy 7), sil's mum and grandma (aged 94!), not to mention 3 cats, all in one big house! - sounds chaotic but they are lovely. we love being here and samuel did the rounds, gazing around with his 'ooooohh' expression on! dns delighted with their little cousin... hope the contact with cat hairs, garden etc (dh holding him after rolling in grass playing with dns!) won't set off any illnesses/allergies after 7.4 weeks in our sterile, garden- and pet-free flat. and of course he's a bit unsettled after the long car trip and so many new people and impressions - cried a lot this eve - but most of the time he was a real star. we're here for 2 1/2 weeks. pink, so sorry the hosp was so awful. i freaked when i saw ds on the bilibed with the infusion and the big goggles and that was much less invasive and didn't faze him at all. katz, ds had nearly 2 weeks of nystatin, which he didn't really mind, but it didn't shift the white tongue - and as i still haven't picked up anything (and the coating comes off a bit when rubbed) the consensus seems to be it isn't thrush. am still putting gel on my nipples when not permanently feeding - just in case. trib, samuel seems to have 'mummy days' and 'daddy days'. can't really get to grips with sling, but i like my baby bjorn - and ds seems to like it too.
tribpot · 10/07/2005 21:57

Bero, I think my assessment is that Samuel sounds perfectly normal Having said that, osteopathy isn't going to do any harm, is it? (I don't know very much about it but I get the impression it's fairly harmlessly therapeutic?). Hopefully he will thrive on a new environment, I always worry about keeping things too sterile as I don't think it's good for the baby ... it never ends, does it?!

Hope you enjoy your family time, anyway. Being around more experienced mums is always useful. I'd deffo go with the diagnosis of trapped wind on that basis. It seems highly common - and bear in mind now that ds is being exclusively breastfed (kudos again on that) he probably doesn't need as much burping as you may be expecting.

JonahB · 10/07/2005 22:06

MrsWed, I?ve just CATed you my mobile number. Please feel free to call me tomorrow.

Lipstick, DS really seems to suffer in the heat. Like Trib?s DS, he wants more frequent feeding and is a lot more grouchy and awake. Glad its not just my DS, Trib . Oh and my DS has ?mummy? and ?daddy? days too. About a week ago, I spent about 2 hours trying to settle him and failed. DH took over and he fell asleep in precisely 10 mins. I was gutted!!

Best get back to the feeding machine?..

MrsWednesday · 10/07/2005 22:17

It must be the heat that's causing all the restlessness, excess feeding and crying. We are all great mums so it can't be anything we're doing.

Well that's what I'm telling myself

Off to bed as DS2 is asleep and after two terrible nights I feel like I should be too.

bubbaloo · 10/07/2005 22:39

evening all,

havent read any of todays posts but ive come on here because im really upset so i apologise in advance.

ive had the most awful day imaginable and i cant stop crying.
i took oscar upstairs to change his nappy this morning, and on my way back down the stairs one of the cats was there and i didnt see him.
i fell down about 10 stairs with the baby and he came out of my arms and rolled down the stairs.we got an ambulance to a&e and after having loads of tests it turns out he has a fractured skull.they also did a ct scan and thank goodness theres no bleeding on his brain, but he does have a huge bump on his head.theyve kept him in and dh is sleeping at the hospital with him as ive really hurt the bottom of my back and thought i might be more comfortable sleeping in my own bed.
i just cant stop thinking about what happened-im normally so carefull on the stairs.
i havent even picked oscar up since it happened as im so scared i'll drop him.
sorry its me me me and sorry to go on but i feel really upset.

hope everyone else is ok.xxx

teabelly · 10/07/2005 23:48

Oh Bubb - sweetheart don't beat yourself up about it, accidents happen, thank god Oscar is going to be ok - just focus on that - he'll be fine and he won't remember a thing about it. God I've lost count of the number of times I've tripped over one of ds' errant toys and gone head over heals. Hope you're not in too much pain yourself, keep us posted honey

Charley forgot to say, dd is on Cow & Gate formula at the mo. Haven't changed her yet as we seem to be weathering it with the dentinox...but have kept a box of Omneo Comfort in reserve just in case...

Lynny - poor you with dd's loud crying...we have one here that does that too...she gives us precisely a nano second of mewing type crying before launching into a full on scream her brother would be proud of!

Trib - we've got a baby bjorn here and I think it's fab...it has quick fit blue and red clip attachments to put it on real easy...is yours maybe slightly older and have a different kind of clip?? I got my bargain one on ebay for less than £20 (rrp £50)...sorry can't offer any advice on your other sling.

Someone asked about colic and bottle vs b/f...I think it's slightly less common for b/f babes, but still a fair few get it anyway...in b/f babes it can be that the mother is eating something 'wind producing' if it's wind related colic, but there are other theories like lactose sensitivity (definitely the case with my ds when he was little) or 'headaches' caused by traumatic births (cranial massage supposed to work wonders)...someone else brought up cranial massage as a query...I'd say go for it, you have nothing to loose and everything to gain...and babe gets a nice massage either way

Right better go...dh has been messing with the pc and managed to get us a couple of trojan horse virus' that I need to try and remove ...men, grrrr!

berolina · 11/07/2005 01:57

bubb love, poor you, what a terrible shock. as tea says, accidents happen - sure he'll be ok.

JonahB · 11/07/2005 06:57

Oh Bubb, poor your! What a nightmare for you both. As has been said, accidents happen and at least little Oscar is going to be okay.

For the northerners meeting up today, I just went into a minor panic as i've told you incorrect info. The Triangle isn't opposite M&S, its opposite Selfridges. Sorry . My brain wasn't switched on last night. As its bound to be at 6am, when I've been up every 3 hours in the night feeding the little man .
