That's what you do with screws, isn't it?

Gui i used to wear a big coat over the sling, open at the front. And sleeping - I plonk Orbit much higher up the bed than me, between the two sets of pillows iyswim, so he doesn't get covered by the duvet. don't like cold shoulders!

Guimauve · 07/09/2009 10:00

Ah, see H sleeps down with his head at boob level, so I have the duvet up to my knees! Which is fine at the moment, and I only have it on at all for coziness rather than actual warmth. Maybe I can adapt some thermals for bf access. And wear gloves in bed!

Morning all

Gui - Oscar does the cough as well... I read somewhere that sometimes babies do fake coughs because its an interesting addition to their vocal repertoire. I'm sure that's why O does it... drama queen, just like his mummy

Countdown to Cornwall (and some cream teas, fanjoshire stylee naturally) - 6 days... woop woop

Bicnod · 07/09/2009 10:42

WFH - just got your weaning book through the door and not a sign of any puke on it

very exciting - thank you so much x

Hi all, DS's finally back at school but I'm missing them!

Need to have a really big catch up but good to see you back Springy.

Guim - E won't have formula either, nor even expressed BM. Driving me a bit mad as I have a couple of things I really should go to (only a couple of hours at most) and can't take Evie but I can't leave her so a bit stressed about it really! Have got over the stage where I was worried I didn't have enough milk and have an abundance of it now so have started donating to NICU milk bank. Can only do it til end October though as they don't want it after 6 months.

My house is a dump after having the kiddies off for 6 weeks, need a desperate clean up...after reading through all this!

PS - please tell me which sling to get as I have no mind of my own anymore

bronze · 07/09/2009 12:36

ok will vote Martha though as lovely as she is shes no match for my Izy

bronze · 07/09/2009 12:37

surprise as its coming up to winter get a moby or something like that

Guimauve · 07/09/2009 13:19

Well, if Izy had been in the compo, I'd definitely have been torn between local/extended family loyalty and Fanjo Warrior loyalty!

Guimauve · 07/09/2009 14:38

It's booooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring here today (WFH, Bicnod, Bronze and Surprise excepted). Where is everyone?

I know

I am going to meet my boss later so he can explain that they're downsizing my dept but that they're too cheap to pay redundancy so they're going to hope people leave of their own accord

Joy.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 07/09/2009 14:46

And Orbit is crying because I won't let him turn my newspaper into a soggy pulp.

On the plus side, I have made a vat of no salt pasta sauce, Orbit has gummed some toast, and I have my new jumper on. this one.

Guimauve · 07/09/2009 14:46

Joy indeed. I assume they can hope all they like?

Ooh, nice jumper, WFH .
Is it warm/cool? Probably not suitable for here, it's either v hot or v cold, no in between climate.

We went to our new neighbours' for a drink last night. The lady, who is about 75, told me that when she BF she had so much milk it poured out of her, and she couldn't tolerate a breast pump as it irritated her. She asked her doctor what to do and he replied, "Get a puppy." So she did. And she BF a puppy for 3 mths.
Cue hand gestures showing how cute the puppy was as he kneaded her boob with his paw.

That'll teach you to say it's boring around here.

mrsgboring · 07/09/2009 14:54

hello hello

have been desperate to get on all day and it's just not been happening.

co-sleeping - never worked this out to my satisfaction just froze. E sleeps at boob level, I have my arm out underneath the pillow to stop him going up too high and the duvet pinned between my knees to stop him going under it. warmth provided by a cardigan plus vest top worn under the boobs with a pj top to lift up, thus giving minimal exposure to freezing night air.

babywearing out in the cold - well it will come as no surprise I have things for this Do NOT dress baby warmly in a sling or they will melt if they fall asleep and you want to go inside (though since the smoking ban I suppose you can probs get a latte at an outside table even in Feb). I used to do big fleece coat done up over both of us (baby in warm hat, easily removable) and then I bought a Peekaru vest If it's cold you can then wear your own coat unbuttoned over the top. They have been laughed at before now on MN and the publicity photos look quite dire, but if you get a black one they are v. flattering acksherly and I've had lots of compliments on mine. For rain cover a brolly is good, or for torrential rain/hill walking etc. you can get a Wilkinet Rain Cover and then for even better rain coverage a Suse's Kinder Rain Poncho which folds up small enough to go in the bag as a spare coat for both you and baby together. The only downside of it is that being a poncho the sleevey bits don't fully cover your arms and you get very wet wrists. Suse's Kinder has every imaginable babywearing accessory in fact - she is quite hyperactive and constantly tweaking her designs to allow even more improbable feats of babywearing (all weather coat you can wear newborn twins and a toddler or even triplets in anyone???)

Surprise, Moby is good but stretchies aren't great for older babies. Hmm if you were only getting one, I think I'd get an Ergo, gauze wrap (e.g. GypsyMama) or thick heavy Storchenwiege though it depends on what you like and what you want to do with babies.

Arrghhingly I'm all packed for hospital apart from I can't decide what sling to take. Most probably won't use it much but I can't go with nothing. Stretchy wrap will be hot and annoying to feed in but possibly the easiest to ease over E's sore sides. But maybe the MT would be better as once on it won't touch his sides. Dammit. Help.

DS1 gets back from nursery pretty soon so won't be on much now until after the op (assuming it's not cancelled for some reason - that's a sick with worry face.

i have packed shedloads of food for me. do you think they'll laugh at me?

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 07/09/2009 15:17
