Night night Steaky

I'm off too to watch telly for half an hour before bed. Nearly Friday though

Sweet dreams all

oopsacoconut · 27/08/2009 22:00

Night Steaky - dream sweet decorating dreams.

I'm off too bed calling and DH has just put on re-runs of Kerry Katona in hopes of scaring me off my laptop.

Night HP

TwilightSurfer · 27/08/2009 22:01

I'm going to go flipping mad before this virus runs it's course with Reese. She is currently puddering around here at 103 degrees!!!!! Forgive my lack of conversion. I've got 15 minutes before I can give her more meds. Acutally I've waited 15 minutes already since I took the temp that was 103. I've given her gatoraid and soaked her with a wet towel. Occassionaly she's singing to herself. That can't be good. If my temp reaches just 101 I'm as loopy as an insane person. Doctor promised me that she can tolerate the temp better than I can. Okay now only 13 more minutes until I can dose her again.

oopsacoconut · 27/08/2009 22:10

TS - I know this is harsh but stop taking her temp for a while. Rely on your motherly instinct and take your cues from Reese. Keep her in just a diaper and a sheet or a light cotton t-shirt. Another trick I learnt is to put her in a bath of water that is the same temprature as her fever then let her sit and play in it until it cools, as it cools so will she. Hope you have a peaceful rest of the day and she is better soon.

LoveBuckets · 27/08/2009 22:12

Well if everyone's gone to bed I'll say good morning then. Kettle's on.

No1 Mum of 5 eh? Don't envy you. Glad your sister got some answers about her DS, means they can start thinking about the future more certainly.

Dizzy Stand by your folders! All the women will be secretly envious.

Steaky I can certify that tealy-blue goes surprisingly well with terracotta and coral shades. Plus paler turquoise (eau de nil) contrasts nicely with beigey-oat tones in a less dramatic way.

Have just devised the perfect bedtime snack: oatcakes spread with Primula, a basil leaf and a slice of tomato. I groaned out loud with pleasure munching but feel quite worthy too.

Steaky, can I offer lots of sellotape in case you decide to box the mansteak?

A year from now, when mansteak is known as izzypere or some such name, his little hissy fits will not have the power to rattle you.

Nice mirror by the way.

Oops, how are things with you these times?

Cyteen, I think I ranted at length about my friend's experience of counselling after your last session, but I dearly hope you'll get to a point where the grief is with you but in a way that you can live with from day to day.

I love your dresses by the way. Whichever one you choose will look divine.

VG, I have witterings for you on draft in email. I am juggling like fury at the middle and pleasing no-one, so sorry to be late in sending stuff to you.

Liking the hotmamas take on the voucher sitation Hotter.

TS - vile, vile situation, but hang in there. Those ill moments really do so much to build their sense that you are there no matter what.

oops i'm really only checking every four hours to see if she needs a redose of meds. if it's only 100 i'm not dosing. temps do serve a good purpose. it's just when she gets up in the 103+ range and acts loopy that i get extremely nervous. and the bath thing is prime. earlier i let her play in the shower (she likes to play in it). she couldn't stay long because she got the shakes, an obvious chill. she's shoveling couscous and black beans in at the moment. such a wonderful sign. the girl is really handling the illness well.

washer just broke with a full load of towels in it. how wonderful especially with a sick child in the house.

Hello everyone,

Buckets - you get blisters in shoes when they rub, and the friction between the shoe and the foot causes the blister.

There are two possible approaches to avoid them. One is to make sure that the shoe is strapped on so tightly and securely that there is no possible movement between shoe and foot, hence no possibility for friction.

The other is to make sure that when the shoe and foot do move against each other that the movement is really smooth and so no possibility for friction.

To take the first approach I guess that you would use tongue pads, insoles and tight laces.

To take the second approach you would use a shiny black sellotape on the inside of the heel of the shoe, so that even if the foot does move against the shoe it moves so smoothly that there is no rubbing and hence no blisters.

This wisdom is bought to you from years of walking boot wearing and hill climbing. I have absolutely no qualifications or experience of children's shoes, and so would also, as way of a disclaimer, advise that this advice may not in fact be transferrable to 4 year olds.

lwfh · 28/08/2009 00:40

and sorry not to respond to everyone personally, I do usually read the thread most nights and think of you all.

Unseasonably hot here at the moment.

Miamla · 28/08/2009 05:56

come on... who booked the early wake up?!! typically, after a run of 5.30 wake ups, DS decided 4.20 was the time of choice for today. dp's going to take over for an hour at 7. ds will more than likely asleep by 7. hey ho, the thought's there!

oopsacoconut · 28/08/2009 06:36

Miamla - I think I might have got your sleep She had a brief feed at 1 then that was it until 6.15. She is chirpy and so am I. As a treat she is being allowed to watch The Hoobs with the curtains open and the ligth on. NOrmally it's no lights, no telly just quietly on the sofa until 7.

Am off to rescuse the washing DH left on the line last night in the gales as it has now poured with rain on it and I want to wear some of it today!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 28/08/2009 08:18

Morning all.

I can just see, I have been up with BOTH dcs from 1am like a yo yo till 5.30am.

How I am sat here I don't know.

DDs molars are not quite through, and ds is very slow to cut these 4 teeth that I have seen under gumline for weeks.

I am off out for the day with my dsis and her dcs Then taking all dcs out for lunch then off Horse riding.
so will have to shake myself.

ts I do hope Reese is much better today.
Her appetite is amazing.

RedLentil · 28/08/2009 09:00

Sympathies to Miamla and No1. Disastrous night here but we have a new tooth to show for it. I can't type straight at the minute. Very very tired.

Still, it's the last proper day of the school holidays so I need to muster some energy and ideas to make it a good one.

Hoping Reese is feeling better after some sleep.

LoveBuckets · 28/08/2009 09:12

VG having a child old (and literary) enough to sit and read in silence together over breakfast!

TS Just kiss her forehead and if it feels hot, give her some meds. Healthy child's forehead may feel hot with hand but not with lips. Hope she shakes it off today.

Longway Electrical tape - genius! Think I will keep them and if they still rub when he outgrows his trainers I can always Ebay them towards the cost of a new pair.

Lentil DD had a good day yesterday as we had company so after the initial hiding in her room she ended up having a whale of a time. She will be happier when school starts I think, fear of new teacher is probably part of the problem as well as being a bit bored at home this week. She and DS1 have invited themselves to sleepover at MIL's on Sunday - waiting for DD to put some thought in about that and start panicking. Would be lovely if they go, will be the first concurrence of DS1's newfound manageability and MIL's current lack of utter frailty (cue pavement trip and broken hip) so he is v excited.

AnnVan · 28/08/2009 09:23

Morning all.
Have spent the last hour trying to catch up, and having to close the laptop evey other minute to keep Seb off the keyboard.

ts sympathies to Reese. Won't send hugs, as I don't want to overheat her
steaky grrrrr. Ignore him. He's playing stupid games.
hotter have you thought of making the meatballs from scratch? It's seriously easy, even I can do it
Um can you believe I've forgotten who else I was going to reply to?
Oh yes oops I love the video, I just had to share it on FB once I'd seen it

Well I've been wasting my time at the jobcentre for the last two months. It seems that because DP works more than 24 hours a week, I won't get JSA. just pisses me off, because they've had this information since I first tried to claim, and they didn't say anything, just told me to fill in yet another form and keep coming inn once a fortnight to sign on. So I've been coming in and signing on even though I've not been getting any money at all. And to top it off after being told this yesterday i bumped into a lady I know. Her and her husband don't work, have four kids, council house etc and live off benefits, and she walks up to me and says 'I've just spent a fortune' (shopping) and telling me how they're moving to a four bedroom house with fitted kitchen dishwasher etc. I just felt a bit annoyed that DP works so hard, and we have NOTHING left over. We can't afford to go shopping, and certainly don't have a bloody dishwasher, yet this woman's husband hasn't worked a day in the last 2 years and they can go shopping, and have a new house with dishwasher. It just seems so unfair that some people get the works. We pay our NI contributions and our tax etc, but when times are hard for us, we get no help at all. This lady just said to me 'well tell your partner to jack in his job for a while' which tells me she's not averse to working the system.

AnnVan · 28/08/2009 09:28

Sorry that was a bit of a self pitying rant wasnt it? Does make me laugh when you consider that Labour claim that they are promoting and supporting the traditional family unit. Do they bollocks. When the lady told me I wouldn't get anything, I said 'but if I were to kick my partner out the door tomorrow?' and she said 'yes, you'd get a ton of money' (NB I am not saying that the life of the single mum is easy, just that a mum who isn't single gets fuck all help in hard times)

LoveBuckets · 28/08/2009 09:34

at Benefits lady! Suppose it's good to know that you'd be ok if he did lose his job LOL. When your maternity runs out you might be eligible for more Child Tax Credit, maybe even Working Tax credit depending on how much he earns.
