My thinking was that we could pretend to be meeting everyone else but really it is just for us

I would love to come up to you but I am not sleeping in a tent as it will be freezing.

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/09/2009 22:47

We have plenty of floor space and the odd spare bed or sofa you know! And the playhouse is always warmer than a tent .

CantSleepWontSleep · 24/09/2009 22:50

Although I see that it's close to Farringdon, which is quite doable from here. Hmmmmmm....

ronshar · 24/09/2009 23:46

CSWS, Thats what I thought. Loads of us live close enough to make it for the night.
I was joking about the tent. I think some time ago there was talk of us all coming to stay and it got to the point where all your house was taken and the only space left was in the garden

Honeymoonmummy · 25/09/2009 00:15

Eeeew to the squeezing convo..I thought a whitlow was one of those things down the side of your fingernaiL?

Not a long one from me cos knackered. Popped into nursery today and...both DH and I now have reservations about it! Older woman in there last time and 2 18-20 year olds with no personality now, plus we think Pops will be bored inside 5 mins in the baby room and can't go in the bigger room till walking confidently. So DH wants me to book appts for other nurseries. We only looked at that one as outstanding ofstead report and ideal position a few mins from us on the way to work for both of us. Bah I've told DH if we change then he has to ring them and tell them so he may change his mind

KSal · 25/09/2009 08:41

I am around too! but again with very little to say! am almost with you on the picking/squeezing but i draw the line at other people!! DH makes me pluck the hairs on his back... its just not as satisfying as doing it for yourself!! not got and back hairs btw!!

good to hear of some success on the nursery front... sorry you're are having doubts about your nursery HMM. Just for interest, Emma goes to a nursery with 'family grouping' so all ages in one room, and three floors with the same arrangement. there is a baby bay at one end of the room which is gated off but the other children can come in and the babies can go out into the other bit, both with close supervision. Its great for Emma as she gets to interact with older children and babies every day. and... if we have another she will be used to dealing with younger children by then too! Also it means that she wouldn't move to other rooms as she gets older, but will stay with the same carers.

i think its probably quite unusual, but it might be worth seeing if there are any like that in your area?

oh and by the way.... CSWS if you know which nursery i am talking about... please don't tell me any bad stories about it, i'm not sure i would want to know

I would definitely be up for a christmas meet up! don't mind too much where, but CSWS's house would be very convenient!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/09/2009 08:56

KSal! I actually don't know which nursery you're talking about, as most of my friends use childminders or SAH themselves! My childminder friend may well know, but I prob won't see her for a few weeks (she's doing her 'first baby group' with her own dd on the day we normally get together) and will forget to ask by then!

Do you definitely want nursery rather than CM HMM?

OP posts:
star6 · 25/09/2009 09:00

I was going to say the same, HMM. I did explore options just in case my friend couldn't look after Q and much much preferred the CM idea - not as many kids, more individual attention and in a cozy home. I felt he would develop a better relationship with a CM and still get to play with other kids. Cozier nap times/meal times...etc. But that's only my opinion based on what I saw.

KSal · 25/09/2009 09:09

ooh CSWS and Star are absolutely right about considering the CM option again... definitely worth thinking about. I just went on the assumption that you had decided on nursery.

ronshar · 25/09/2009 20:46

Do you look like a Klingon?

50Ft. Wednesday is go go go. Watch out Bluewater you are gonna get a bashing.

HMM, the most important thing with a nursery is to look at the children. If the Ofsted was good then it means that they have ticked the boxes. That only means something if the children are happy. How much outside time do the littles get? Ask what structure P would have to her day. When will you be putting P in? Are you going back to work soon?

Hello Ksal. Hows everything with you?

Star, have you spoken to your DH yet? Just wondering

ronshar · 25/09/2009 20:47

Jenwa, no wine, shocking!

Myjob that is a good point. Why no picture?

Loving the trousers MyJob!

I'd love an Xmas meet up too BTW.

Aaargh I'd not considered CM before, I was set on her going to nursery so she'd have the interaction with the other kids but I'm concerned by how detached they were from the kids, not exactly a "family" atmosphere. Oh crappity crap crap What should I do???

Also, I didn't do the mid afternoon feed today, gave her formula instead I'm going to do this for 2 weeks then give up the mid morning feed so by the time she starts trying nursery in December we'll hopefully be in a whole new routine.

However, I'm now thinking of carrying on BF at night even when I return to work. What do you all think? CSWS in particular, I know you're still BF both of your LO's, do you think it's a good idea to continue or should I get her used to not BF before she gets too old to really miss it? I'm also concerned that if I continue to BF at night, I'll continue to feed her to sleep which is just storing up problems when I do eventually stop... My friend is still BF her 14 month old at night, she commutes to work, she's sent me this link.

I might start a new thread to petition for a pic of MyJob's forehead...

Ronshar, I'm going back in Jan 10 and I've had this place since Jan 09! I'm very doubtful that I'll find anything else decent now. She'll probably be going to the pre-school nursery when she's 2 years 8 months anyway, so she'll be changing then. I have a friend whose LO is there, I'll get in touch with her. I think I do want her to go to nursery as I was a nightmare to get to nursery as I was at home with my mum until age 3 and just didn't want to go to nursery, AND I had other kids in my road to play with. But Poppy is already far more outgoing than I was as a child.

Honeymoonmummy · 25/09/2009 20:56

God I just feel like getting completely rat-arsed!

Honeymoonmummy · 25/09/2009 21:10

Oh and (while I'm talking to myself) am just putting some more new(ish) pics on FB. No freakishly misshapen body parts though, sadly. Sorry. I'm off to get myself a (small) glass of vino in a min.

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/09/2009 21:12

It's never an easy decision hmm, and there are pros and cons either way. Yes, you might find it easier to wean her now than you will later, but it's hard to say that for sure - some toddlers will not mind stopping whenever you decide the time is right, and others will object vehemently! Poppy has a lot of change coming up, with her switch to a nursery (or CM), and she (and you) might find that continued bf is a good way to reconnect at the end of the day. It is also a very useful tool to calm down a hurt/upset/overtired toddler - there were times with dd where I honestly don't know what I'd have done if I couldn't have fed her! There's nothing actually wrong (IMO) with feeding to sleep at night. It's a lovely snuggly way to settle. Don't let concerns about nights out worry you unduly - as a toddler dd would settle ok without a bf when I was out, despite insisting on a feed if I was in the house (hiding downstairs never worked ).
Is she tolerating the formula ok now? You mentioned that she was sick on it the other day didn't you - was that just a one off?

I fancy a drink too hmm, but have a headache (mild, but had it for 2 days, prob due to tiredness), so not sure that it would be a good idea.

Great trousers again myjob.

Lovely trousers Myjob!

I think childminders can be great if you can find a good one. A number of local friends with babies a similar age with Stan have had a nightmare trying to find a decent one. Some of them don't ever take the children to do any activities and one woman asked my friend if it was ok to put her dd in her buggy to watch tv. I'm no stranger to In the Night Garden but I'd be really unhappy about that. The childminder who is going to have S from Jan only works part-time and term-time only but still has people queueing up to send their kids there because she's a rare find round here.

Lol at you grotty spot squeezers.

Didn't think about making bolognese with turkey mince CSWS. Would I just make it as normal? I'm a very good cook when it come to veggie food, but clueless on meat-related cookery.

CantSleepWontSleep · 25/09/2009 21:22

Yes, just make as normal Aubergenie - maybe add an extra stock cube to enhance the flavour.
