CantSleepWontSleep · 20/09/2009 21:55

Evening all. Happy anniversary myjob, and happy birthday for tomorrow to N. I still can't believe that our babies are all approaching 1. And am still hoping that ds is out of his mood by then! He does give lovely cuddles at the moment though!

Have had lovely weekend with Martha and her family. Pics on facebook now.
Dd lasted 2 seconds after they left before saying that she missed her friend!

50ftQueenie · 20/09/2009 22:16

Ah bless her CSWS. They were thick as thieves all weekend, even the babies seemed to enjoy each other's company.

Lovely D gave M a big cuddle and a kiss, she responded by screaming her head off and reaching for her mummy. I can confirm D does give lovely big proper cuddles. Such a charming young man.

We are knackered so will catch up properly tomorrow. Happy Anniversary Myjob and Happy Birthday N!

jenwa · 21/09/2009 07:36

Ok, I have having a nightmare of a time with Q eating at the moment. he prefers to eat with his hands, will take fromage frais off of a spoon and fruit pots. Sometimes anything else he'll take and then he tires of it quickly. Same with stuff in his hands. It seems like he'll only eat 3 or 4 bites of something and then spits it out if offered more or more is put on his tray. We're constantly bringing out different foods throughout dinner to try to get food into him. I know we shouldn't do this, but I can't see any other way other than him going to bed hungry I will be dropping the night bf this week, too (as he takes so little as it is) and keeping the morning feed a bit longer (he takes loads from this one and is most enjoyable for both of us). He takes a bit of oatmilk during the day and water...
he's so fickle. One minute he'll love something and the next won't even keep it in his mouth.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/09/2009 12:53

Happy birthday Naomi.

Teething or 'just a phase' star. I really wouldn't offer loads of different things. He won't starve himself.

OP posts:
star6 · 21/09/2009 13:10

Thanks csws, and true... he's definitely not starving. He's 23 lbs now!! We should just give him dinner and when he spits it out, he's done and maybe he'll learn to eat more of that thing after a few nights? will he feel hunger while he sleeps? For some reason, I can't bear the idea of Q ever feeling hungry beyond normal amount. I know this is ridiculous.

KSal · 21/09/2009 13:45

Happy birthday to Naomi!!

very impressed with your knitting myjob... i love knitting but have only managed one top for emma since she was born...

have a lovely time celebrating x

loulou33 · 21/09/2009 15:10

Hiya all, managed to find a computer where mn is not blocked - yipee.

Happy birthday N - hope you are having a good day..

Star - you are not alone with feeling anxious when they don't eat, its what we do. Joe does the whole spitting out thing and messing with food in his mouth.. He likes to pull bits out a look at it and i think this is a normal phase - although very annoying. i wouldn't offer lots of food as that way he gets the message that if i don't like it, they keep getting stuff out for me - that way faddy eating lies!!! I know this as i was one for years when i was tiny - i even had chocolate mousse for breakfast as it was all i would eat apparently. I remember this clearly and knew that i could get what i wanted as my mum was so anxious about me not eating. I dont eat chocolate mousse for breakfast anymore btw but i made my mum's lifew hell for a while.

I think they go through phase around one when their appetite drops off signficantly at the same time their weight gain does too. if they carried on at the rate of a 6 month old, they would be the size of a house by the age of two!! Joe reduced his portion size for a while with no ill effects. Then after a few weeks, started waking early (5 oclock ffs) and once i fed him a bit more again, he was fine. Q will tell you when he wants more. He'll wake if he's hungry enough but for now, i would let him play with the food and have fun at the tea table without any anxious battles. like csws said - he won't fade away!! You sound more cheery btw - how you doing??

Hi all, Happy Birthday Naomi!

Star, Poppy is sometimes like that too. What I find is that rather than get something completely new out, try changing it slightly or give him fruit then back to the meal. For example, when she starts to refuse fruit, I mix it with a bit of plain yoghurt. I've also found that if I have 2 different flavours, eg one small bowl of porridge, and one small yoghurt, if I alternate between the two, ie a spoon of one then a spoon of the other etc, she eats much more than giving her all of one then all of the other. That way, (if it works!) you're not really giving them loads of different things, Loulou makes a good point there about the message 'if I don't like it I just get something else'.

Talking of mealtimes, I can't remember if I told you all but I had a nightmare where Poppy was throwing loads of food or her cup over the side of her highchair on the floor. Well for the past 10 days, if she does it, I just say "No" once, pick it up and then sit with no eye contact and no speaking for 60 seconds. And after 10 days... she isn't dropping anything. Now I just need to get her to self-settle...

Night all!

heather1980 · 22/09/2009 08:04

hi, ladies gosh it's been ages. lots going on.
alex fell down the stairs a few weeks ago, it was horrific and we called an ambulance, thankfully he's fine and came away with just cuts and scrapes.

he's nearly walking he takes 1-2 steps and then falls down but is quite happy to race round cruising the furniture.

we think he has some sort of allergy to milk, if he has cows milk he gets really bad runs, but i drink loads of milk and it's never bothered him before. i have no idea what to do, i so want to stop bf soon, but if he can't have milk i'll have to carry on.
and he still doen't sleep through the night.....

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/09/2009 09:10

heather - you can get hypoallergenic milk on precription (which I'm sure you already know given your job!), or you can use oat milk with added calcium as long as he's getting a good varied solids diet too. (Runs would be classed as intolerance btw, rather than allergy).

Not sleeping through the night here either - there are several of us still in that situation.

Glad you are making a little headway with nursery pistachio.

Have finally ordered some birthday presents for ds, and picked up his clipo table.
Should prob order some for dh as it's his birthday at the weekend .

Q will be 1 and I will be 31 next Friday and Saturday What fun!
Thanks everyone. Loulou - I am feeling a bit better. I think it's the anti depressant that's making me more calm and even keel. I still have low points of the day sometimes but they are getting to be less and less. Actually, since on the AD, I'm feeling a bit like, I don't really care about things as much as I used to. I care immensely about Q, but not things that were making me upset previously. Not sure if this is a good or a bad thing yet.
HMM - I'm going to try that technique when Q drops something. At the moment it's not fun at mealtimes at all.

Do babies actually open presents at this age and "get it"? We're thinking of getting Q 1 present and making him a sugar free banana cake to eat. Are we mean? I want it to be a special day... but not sure he really gets it iyswim.

star6 · 22/09/2009 10:10

Pistachio - good to hear the nursery situation is getting a bit better.
How is J doing at nursery, Rachie?

Alright... I'll give Q a proper sugary cake :-) DH and I will like it better that way, anyway . I may even have a go at making it myself

50ftQueenie · 22/09/2009 16:44

I am planning on making M's cake myself, but I love baking so I will enjoy it. I'm not sure whether I should do two though, one for her birthday, one for her tea party. What do you think ladies?

Hi heather, I did notice your fb status saying poor A had fallen down the stairs. Martha did that last week but was absolutely fine, so no visit to A&E for us fortunately. Hope you're all ok.

It's DH's birthday tomorrow but he doesn't like cake so I haven't made one. He has been looking after M today as I have cleaning. I am knackered, but have burned huge amounts of calories in the process so not all bad! M seems a little sleepy and under the weather today. She's probably just getting my cold
