Tracy that is ridiculous it was a beautiful day yesterday - how many bugs do they think will breed with extra heating on?
I'd ask about it and mention how 'dehydrated' you ds was when you picked him up due to all the sweating...

MrsDoolittle · 12/08/2005 09:24

That's funny Chuffed. I was in A&E on Thursday visiting a student and we were asked to leave because a child with suspected measles came in. In fact, I had only mentioned the fact I was pregnant two minutes before.
I don't think it could have been you - I was a Wexham!

TracyK · 12/08/2005 09:29

I know Chuffed - I think I will complain at lunchtime when I pick him up. I can't imagine it would be nice for the staff to be working in either.

Chuffed · 12/08/2005 09:30

The doctor was explaining what it was and as it was the same family bla bla to avoid her being around pregnant women I then said but I am...her face was like oh shit and she said are you rubella positive I said yes she said it is Ok just not to share saliva???

Chuffed · 12/08/2005 09:30

No we were at St Mary's Paddington

MrsDoolittle · 12/08/2005 09:57

I think it's going around Chuffed.

Chuffed · 12/08/2005 11:06

At least it's now and not days before we were due to leave.

hewlettsdaughter · 12/08/2005 16:08

Hi weesadie - re how these things work, there are a number of us that have been posting here for a while now but everyone is welcome - just get stuck in!

YG, did I miss something - what were you doing in a Portuguese hospital? Hope you are ok.

Chuffed, hope dd gets better soon and you stay well!

I have just finished work for two weeks (hooray!). Not going on holiday, although may visit friends/relatives during our time off.

dolbear · 12/08/2005 19:08

welcome weesadie !
ds has now learned how to climb dinning room chair to 'help ' dh fix things , seems to have had growth spurt and can reach a lot more now - yippee !
no more spots/blisters - life still mad
not so good on the hopital front !!

LucyJones · 12/08/2005 19:11

Hi everyone. Just back from holiday with all my family. Ds loved playing with all his cousins. Feel a bit sad that we don't see them that often though. Welcome Weesadie

Fennel · 15/08/2005 10:02

hi everyone. i'm back from holiday too. our annual return from holiday crossing the uk on the back of a breakdown lorry (well, it saves on fuel costs ). lovely sunny 2 weeks in Isle of Wight and Devon. though have to say my little darlings turn into feral nightmares when on holiday (why? when do they grow out of this?)

have dumped dd1 and dd2 for 4 days with my parents in wiltshire. hope they all survive it intact.

yorkiegirl what were you ill with, are you still in Portugal?

handlemecarefully · 15/08/2005 13:30

Fennel - did you catch Cowes week whilst you were there?

Yorkiegirl - hope you are better now? We're off to Portugal in a couple of weeks - have been hearing that it is hideously hot and there is a water shortage? Incidentally Yg, you've inspired me to join Slimming World. My first class tonight - I'm actually excited.

Chuffed - will miss you when you go travelling. Do you think you might manage the occasional post?

Welcome weesaidie

We dispensed with stair gates yesterday. Ds seems quite sensible and cautious on stairs, and in any case only appears to want to go up them when it is forbidden by a stair gate (since we've removed stair gate he has shown no interest in climbing the stairs - unless I go up first)

Ds has taken to wanting to hang out with daddy - it's cute. Dh was in garden yesterday doing spectularily dull stuff (like putting together a large metal storage container) and ds couldn't wait to go out and watch him.

Ooh I can't actually remember Yorkiegirl - I'll have to check my tickets and travel itinerary when I get home.

We are staying in a villa with a pool, so we were thinking that we would go out early in the morning, return to the villa around lunch time so kids could either sleep or cool off in pool at hottest time of the day, and then go out again about 3pm/ 4pm

hi yorkiegirl, sorry to hear about the illness (but presumably it made you lose even more weight?)

we stayed in Lagos once, it was lovely at cape saint vincent etc.

HMC no, Cowes week passed us by. not sure why as Dp loves that sort of thing usually but we were on the other side of the island.

Chuffed · 15/08/2005 14:47

Will try to pop the odd post when out and about but not sure how much time we'll have to sit at a computer to be honest.
HMC - you have been busy on mumsnet today - at work like me?

handlemecarefully · 15/08/2005 14:48

Chuffed - yes! It's unbelievable how little work I can do and still stay employed!

weesaidie · 15/08/2005 15:56

Last time I was in Portugal I saw Kenny Dalgleish! Of course I was about 8 at the time but my dad was very excited. However I do remember sitting at an outdoor cafe and my sister and i being nervous about going for a walk round the block on our own in a village. My parents persuaded us by saying there were absolutely no criminals in Portugal! Huh. Nice eh?

My dd learnt to climb stairs while we were in France on holiday last month which was a nightmare! I got up with her before everyone else (at least 2 hours before) and she kept trying to climb upstairs which meant her then running around the upstairs hall shouting and banging on everyones doors! I tried to distract her with French cartoons to no avail! Good exercise though.

HMC - your holiday schedule (?) sounds like a good idea, that is what I did last year in Greece... so hot there. Great having a pool!

No exciting news on my front, spend the weekend quite quietly organising and cleaning - almost enjoyed it! In fact I caught myself looking at my book shelf wanting to alphabetise them!!

I doubt I will be so clean in the next couple of weeks as my friend and uncle will be visiting for lots of Edinburgh Festival madness!

... so yes TracyK I am in Scotland! Where are u now and where are u hoping to move back too?

God. That was long.

dot1 · 15/08/2005 21:47

Hi all - glad you're OK YG and welcome back Fennel! We're in the throes of illness here - ds2's on his first course of antibiotics for a catarrah infection that's making him wheeze, cough, have runny eyes, nose, a temp of 103 and the runs..! Oh yes it's fun in our house at the moment. So far the rest of us have escaped it, but it can't be long... (I was off on leave today but am trying not to be too relieved I'm back at work tomorrow! )

TracyK · 16/08/2005 08:50

Hope your lot are feeling better soon Dot1.
Weesaidie - hoping to move back to Glasgow - ish. Don't know where yet - have got used to village life in England - but want to be closer to ds g/parents.
Everyone's pg at the mo around me - 1 on her first after 4 m/c, another 2 on their 3rd's (wee accidents!), another on her first after IVF. I'd called dh's bluff and said we can have No2 if we move home to Glasgow - oops - may be moving back and I'll have to fulfill my part of the bargain!

lunavix · 17/08/2005 08:43

Can't believe what ds said last night!!!!!!

He's said a few words 'mama, go, hiya, hello' etc has only said daddy three times though on the weekend he said pussy cat although we have no idea how he picked that up as we just say 'cat' and a few days ago he said duck-quack though not at a duck, at a book!

Last night I was cleaning the bathroom and he climbed up the stairs to bed, when I turned and saw him I said 'hey gorgeous' and he said 'hey gorgeous' back at me!!!! As clear as I said it!

I nearly fainted... my 16 month old son who refuses to say daddy can say 'hey gorgeous'! He was so proud, he said it three times.

YG - ds can say Doda and Map. Its his favourite program. As soon as he wakes up he points at TV and says Doda!
I don't mind him watching it as I can pretend to learn Spanish too.
