We got dd got her first shoes just a couple of weeks ago (she was in socks/bare feet before that). She's a 4F (Startrite).

YG - bless

Fennel · 12/07/2005 21:22

lunavix, that's a lot of shoes!

dd has size 3 crawling clarks shoes - £2 from car boot sale, size 3 wellies (from cousin) and size 3.5 Elefanta sandals - £2 from good-as-new sale. and then a pile of size 4 up "proper" shoes left over from the others but i might buy her new ones when she's been walking for 2 months. which is at least 2 months off.... late walking good for saving shoe money at least....

dolbear · 13/07/2005 20:24

its not the walking that i mind its the running i was pants @ sports even when i was at school i seem to spend a lot of my time running after little legs shouting NO and people wonder why I have lost weight recently - there is an upside to everything I guess , I know we have not mentioned 'it' but I hope that all you and yours are home safe and sound

LucyJones · 15/07/2005 16:19

Ooh it's gone very quiet here. Hope you all have a nice weekend. I'm off for a girlie weekend!!

Chuffed · 15/07/2005 16:45

Have a good time LJ - am jealous of dot being away this gorgeous week, what a week to be camping.
dh is back tomorrow - yay!!!!

dolbear · 15/07/2005 18:04

have a greta time ! the word that comes to mind ryhmes with kitch ! ha ha !!

hewlettsdaughter · 15/07/2005 21:40

Any of your kids unsettled in the hot weather? DD is - though it could be teeth-related, I'm not sure.

Enjoy girlie weekend Lucy!

dot1 · 16/07/2005 15:55

Hello! We had a great holiday but it's lovely to be back home!! Boiling hot - too hot for me (I know, mustn't grumble...!) and dp and I are exhausted - when do holidays with kids start becoming actual holidays?!

ds2's a size 5.5 H - although maybe nearer a 6 now - dp's going to get him measured this week. He's got really lovely comfy sandals from Adams - red and black and have done him all week really well.

TracyK · 16/07/2005 16:50

ds a bit snotty and a bit of a cough - I think due to the fan in his room for the beginning part of his night sleep. (switch it off when we go to bed). but he's been really whingey and tired today - some calpol helped but I hope its nothing serious.
Nice and sunny and not too hot here at 19 degrees - more of this please.

LucyJones · 17/07/2005 17:35

ooh had a fab girlie weekend - lots of eating and drinking and not sleeping. Went to bed at 3am the first night and woke up at 6.30am due to always waking at that time cos of ds!!! 2nd night went to bed at midnight and woke at 8.45am - hurrah!

Fennel · 17/07/2005 20:13

hi dot, glad to hear you had a good holiday. let me know when you discover the magic age at which holidays become relaxing again

HD - dd3 is unsettled I think partly due to heat and partly to teething. she's much more ratty than usual. but she does sometimes bother to walk now, 10 or 12 steps at a time. she prefers crawling though.

yg - can she not go without nappies this weather? ds hardly wears one now - tho have been picking up poos round the garden - its like having a puppy again!
LJ - i can't remember the last girlie weekend i had - how did you cope without lo? i've got my first coming up in a few weeks!

LucyJones · 18/07/2005 17:52

Hi TracyK. I don't know if this is really bad but I hardly missed ds at all!! I talked about him a lot to my friends because they don't have kids and have never met him so were interested to know what he is like so perhaps that's why. I just found it so relaxing to not be worrying about naps and meal times etc. And the big grin I got last night was totally worth it (although dh looks a bit worn out!)

dot1 · 18/07/2005 22:09

Awww - I had to take a moment yesterday morning - nearly cried - I usually get ds's their breakfast, and yesterday I got their cereal as usual and set them up at the table - bibs etc - and they both proceeded to tuck into their food - without any help from me!!!! I felt all redundant! Ds2 now adamantly refuses to be helped with any food - goes bonkers if you even try to pick up the spoon, but he's now really good at it, so no more Mummy helping him!

Oh YG - poor dd. Hope her botty gets better soon.
LJ - you bad mummy!! I'm sure I'll be the same tho - I love having ds around me - but I love it too when its peace and quiet when he's sleeping or out with dh.

dolbear · 19/07/2005 12:44

sorry 2 hear re bots , not nice
we got the fun of eye drops @ the mo also werid raised spots on tum + right side, non on left, checked with GP its 'noting' was thinking of maybe investing in oilatum or the like ??
ah the bb's r growing up , ds still happy to b spoon fed not v interested in doing it himslef, typical bloke ! also feel will have prbs getting his bottle off him , am taking beaker 2 nursary in the hope if he sees the BIG kids using them he will also don't realy want to get into a fight about it
gone job hunting again dh wants to quit 9-5 and work from home f/t am having real probs coming 2 terms with leaving ds 4 that long also am getting broody now , i blame you guys !!

hewlettsdaughter · 21/07/2005 21:26

Is dd any better YG? My dd is still a bit whingy. Doesn't like it when I say 'no' either! Dot - your ds2 is doing well if he can manage his food without your help already! My dd would love to be left to her own devices but most of the food would end up in her hair I think.

lunavix · 21/07/2005 21:45

YG - let us know how poor dd2 gets on.

Ds has tonsillitus AGAIN. Apparently if he gets it a few more times he will get to have them taken out at 3 years old... not sure how I feel about that. Don't want my itty bitty boy having surgery, but I had mine out at 4 (after years of suffering) and all I remember was lots of ice cream, and being given a 3 foot high teddy bear. DH had them out at age 20, after years of suffering, and remembers the severe pain.

And - he can finally stand!!!! He can do it on his own for perhaps 20 seconds (so until he gets bored) and he can walk holding on to just one of our hands, but he hasn't quite figured how the two go togehter...

Chuffed · 22/07/2005 10:31

all these sick and poorly little ones
Well we have big news. I have just resigned - dh is resigning today too, we have given notice at nursery and are leaving London in a month.
We will travel through Eastern Europe on our way back to NZ leaving London end of August, arriving back mid October. Major butterflies going on here.
After the first bombs we bought bikes and haven't got on a tube or bus, said we would re-evaluate after the end of summer and now after yesterday family is just too important to wait around for another 6 months. I miss out on my maternity leave but if it came down to is it as important as a life it isn't. Very dramatic I know but we have found it all very stressful things like this don't happen in NZ.

LucyJones · 22/07/2005 10:34

wow Chuffed hat sounds brilliant Hope you will be able to log on to keep us updated on your travels!

Fennel · 22/07/2005 11:54

Chuffed that's very exciting. i can see very well why hanging around in London at the moment is too stressful. i hope you have a great time travelling. I am going to Poland in Sept and Bulgaria in Oct - shall i look out for the chuffed family?

lunavix sorry to hear about the tonsilitis. my dd1 used to get earaches badly as a baby/toddler but grew out of them by about 2.5. i think these days they are slower to take children's tonsils out than they used to be.

dp is threatening to resign from his job. they've got a crisis and want him to cancel his/our holiday in a week's time. though I have grumbled about having to go to a caravan park in the Isle of Wight (child-friendly holidays but not my scene really) we are suddenly up in arms about our right to have a holiday. also his boss is really snotty when he leaves to pick up a child from childcare. he thinks that's what wives are for. grrr

MrsDoolittle · 22/07/2005 12:03

Hey Chuffed we are in Auckland at the end of August - does that mean we could meetup in Auckland?
My Mum's terrified I'm going to want to stay.
