Lol congrats on NOT being pregnant Lbb Yeah those sound like good nap times but id probably struggle to get him down for 4 hours during the day - phew 6 is early lol i dont get up till 6.45/7 ish

elkiedee · 28/09/2009 17:58

LBB, glad you got the result you wanted at least for now.

Meals or any food are very messy times here, I try not to change C's clothes until after breakfast.

Two fairly predictable and substantial naps sound great to me. C mostly catnaps and I spend his rare longer naps expecting him to wake up any minute.

Am getting anxious about going back to work and leaving C.

littleboyblue · 28/09/2009 18:43

elkie When do you go back to work? C will be fine, but I know it's hard. I was supposed to return to work after ds1 but I wasn't ready to leave him. I am now though!!!!!!

bumpsnowjustplump · 28/09/2009 20:54

Naps what are naps??? Could you all explain them to Owen? his sleep pattern is as follows:

Goes down at 7 and sleeps until 10 then he feeds. Goes back down at 10:45/11 o'clock and goes through to 1 feeds goes back down at 1:30 and goest until 3:30 feeds until 4 and goes back down until 6 when he (yep you got it) feeds until 6:30 when Jessica wakes up and we all have to get up... he will then sleep for ten minutes at about 10 and another 10 mins at about 4...

I would do anything for 4 hours sleep or an hour nap during the day!!!

DP and me are arguing at the moment because he is fed up of the ironing taking over our bedroom and he wants to be able to relax in the bedroom not look at a load of clothes, I need to manage MY days better and stay in once in a while to get MY jobs done...

Grrr

dinkystinky · 28/09/2009 21:27

God all these pregnancy scares/maybes... Was it Littlesez who triggered them all by wondering who will be the next one to produce another little bundle of joy??? Glad DS1 is better LBB. Doctor has diagnosed Danny with a virus and possibly also teething - keeping my fingers crossed he sleeps better tonight. Will be heading to bed shortly myself to try to get some sleep before he starts up again.

Bumps - I didnt have a period until the weekend I stopped exclusivly bfing Danny - as soon as I dropped to morning and night feeds only my period came back. It sounds like you're still bfing O alot so its probably keeping your period at bay. Sorry O is waking so often at night - you have my most heartfelt sympathies and commiserations there. Am convinced part of the reason Danny is waking at night is because he wont bloody well drink his bottles properly during the day and he's hungry but short of stopping bfing totally - which I dont want to do - have no idea how to convince the little monkey to drink his bottles properly!

MS - your catpoo/spiderweb escapade - or is it escaspade - made me laugh and shudder in equal measures.

Rosie - we're BLWing and it is indeed very messy. We basically draw straws and whoever gets the short one has to sit near Danny. Cant wait to get round to redoing the house and getting a bigger kitchen so we can finally get a dining table where we can retreat to an adult non-food spattered end...

Elkie - sorry you're worrying about leaving C when you go back to work. It will be fine and he'll be fine. I'm perfectly convinced that Danny barely misses me at all during the day as he has eyes only for our nanny when she arrives and he is well entertained by her and his big brother but the enormous big smile and cuddle I get from Danny when I get home in the evenings makes up for it as does the lovely greeting from DS1.

Naps - Danny is like LBB's Luke, awake early in morning sometime between 5.30 and 6.30, down for a nap between 8.30 and 9ish for an hour and a half and then down again around 1ish for an hour and a half. In bed by 6.40 most nights. Does mean I have to rush home and get him straight down - wish he would go to bed abit later but he just wont pesky child.

Blimey Bumps, with a schedule like that, ironing doesn't really matter in the scheme of things does it? Can you send some/all of it out (and make DH pay for it)? Even as a one-off.

You need to be out and about with a toddler and a baby

My DS does nap but don't know when or for how long.....he just fits in with mine and DDs activities.

littleboyblue · 28/09/2009 22:07

dinky I read somewhere that when you want/need to adjust a baby's routine, the best way to do it is by delaying/bringing forward the set activity (i.e. bath/bedtime) by 15minutes.
I've messed abot with both boys routines in the past, but personally would only do it by 5 mins a time iyswim.

Cocodrillo · 28/09/2009 22:35

Or don't iron? I iron nothing, if you get it out the tumbledrier quick enough and fold it straight away its more or less creasefree. Wouldn't work for eg men's shirts, but anything else. (Or am I just a slattern?) If DH wants ironed shirts he irons them himself or I take them down the dry-cleaner to get them ironed (at DH's expense, not from household budget).

elkiedee · 28/09/2009 23:24

Bumps, re ironing, I agree with Coco's suggestion. We do own an iron, but I'm not sure where it is right now.

littleboyblue · 29/09/2009 06:47

I try to do 15mins of ironing a day. That is always my plan, but it normally gets left until there is no room left in the airing cupboard.
I do however limit myself everytime I get the iron out. Last time I got 20 items out of the cupboard, ironed them and put the iron away. Tonight I will do the same and everynight until I catch up!
I find, if I do it little by little and don't aim to do too much, I don't get overwhelmed by it all.
My mum is the same. She gets the iron out every day. Depressing thought isn't it?

swampster · 29/09/2009 09:52

I think I posted when it happened but it still makes me chuckle. DS2 brought over the toy iron at playgroup and asked what it was for. I explained to the best of my abilities. DS2: "Nooooo! You're joking me!"

PinkTulips · 29/09/2009 10:07

i know where our íon is..... in it's box on the sideboard under drfts of paper and junk, i see it a a kind of monument to my slattern ways. we don't own an ironing board and i have yet to ever look at an item of clothing and say 'gosh, that needs ironing' so i can't imagine it ever being pulled out of hibernation

swampy... both mine have asked my mother 'what are you doing?' when they see her ironing

swampster · 29/09/2009 10:10

I think ironing is too hazardous when you've got small people around! I reckon I'd be irresponsible to do it.

PinkTulips · 29/09/2009 10:13

I distinctly remember when i was 3 my mother walking out of the room and telling me 'Don't touch the iron, it's very hot'... so obviously i had to touch it to see how hot it was [ouch]

MarkStretch · 29/09/2009 10:57

I have to iron DH's bastard paramedic greens and DD's school uniform.

PinkTulips · 29/09/2009 11:09

god bless m&s and tesco and dunnes and non iron uniforms

the sole reason i bought the iron was in case i needed to iron interview clothes and work clothes for dp but even when he was wearing shirts for work every day they never seemed to need ironing (result!)

littleboyblue · 29/09/2009 11:59

I can't get on FB......anyone else having trouble?

bumpsnowjustplump · 29/09/2009 12:09

I dont have a tumble dryer and my clothes always come out of the washing machine really creased... So I have to iron or we would look like a bunch of scruff bags...

rosieposey · 29/09/2009 12:32

lol at you non ironing lot ... i thought it was just me! The only think that ever gets ironed is DH shirts for work and he pays DD1 going out money if she does all 5 on a Sunday It really upsets me when i have ironed something then its worn for a few hours and is back in the laundry to be washed/ironed again so i dont iron - perhaps about twice a year as i am clearly the slowest ironer ever, god bless the tumble drier!

I have made some creamy leek and potato soup for dinner tonight which we will have with some welsh rarebit and chutney - i dont know why i just really feel like some soup at the moment, its too warm to feel that Autumnal but there is a nice nip in the air in the mornings and eves so i cant wait to start cooking those wintery/hearty type recipes again.

Bumps sorry about the naps (or lack of them) with Owen - i take my hat off to you i really do as the only reason i have a decent humour is because Milo is pretty good at sleeping (mind you its sods law because he woke up 4 times last night )

Well off to give Milo his lunch in a mo - the mess has to be seen to be believed - lol i cant wait to see what he does with spagetti bolognaise in a few days! Have taken everyones advice and will either put a very old top on him and use that or i have a long sleeved art bib type think with a catch pocket at the bottom which i will try out.

PinkTulips · 29/09/2009 13:50

bumps, we only bought a tumble drier last month, most creases disappear when stuff is hung up to dry... the trick is to shake the wet clothes before hanging... a good sharp crack while holding the waistband/shoulders usually knocks out all the creases and then you hang them to dry.

any remaining creases disappear once the clothes have been on for 5 mins

MarkStretch · 29/09/2009 14:00

Rosie, I take F out of his highchair and brush him down outside the back door!

katieblirdsnest · 29/09/2009 14:09

similar to swampy my dd was at a neighbours who was ironing...'what are you doing?'!!

i did get the iron out to iron on the iron-on labels to dd's uniform. most of which have already come off. so have just scrawled her name on the actual clothes labels. i believe this is the worst crime a school mum can commit but it could start another chain about sewing abilities...anyone? my mil was absolutely horrified that i 'couldn't find' my sewing kit. i do keep meaning to get one, honest!

and now we have a nanny, and she keeps wanting to iron for us. not just for the kids but for us. i feel guilty but what lovely pressed trousers i'm in today!

ds is on similar day to llb's ds i think. wakes about 7.15am, naps from about 8.45am for an hour, naps between 12.30 and 1pm for about 2 hours then to bed at 6.45pm. sometimes he wakes for about 5 seconds of a bottle of milk around 4am but sometimes just sleeps through. still no teeth though and when he does appear to be teething the nights aren't quite so great.

Cocodrillo · 29/09/2009 14:18

I wouldn't mind ironing some kind of manly uniform.

Cocodrillo · 29/09/2009 14:27

oh, and re sewing, I am v good on the wifely mum duties on that score, sewing in specally ordered name tapes (I suppose to be really Martha Stewart I would hand-embroider their names into their clothes!).

DS does nap well, sleeps roughly like LBB's Luke, but DD1 was a monster for daytime naps and drove me half to despair.

dinkystinky · 29/09/2009 14:57

Ugh - 3 hours sleep again last night despite or rather because of DH and I tag teaming dealing with Danny. Danny is NOT in my good books - wish this teething/virus lark would pass as I have to use my brain at work now as have a deal signing tomorrow and total and utter numpties working on the other side of it! If only the darling little monkey would drink his bottles during the day I'm sure he'd sleep better - and wake up to feed less - at nights... aargh. Right, enough of me, me, me...

Bumps - I dont do ironing though my lovely nanny does (sounds like your nanny is from the same mould KBN). If things are desperately creased when coming out the washing machine I do as Pink does or otherwise just hang them up in the bathroom when having a hot shower - gets most creases out. Am rather impressed that we're keeping on top of the laundry mountain at present - though does involve doing about 5 loads of washing a day and minimal ironing.

Coco - you ubermum sewing in those tags yourself. Am ironing on (well when I say I what I really mean is I will get lovely nanny to) labels for DS1 (who starts preschool next Monday, how can he be so grown up already!) on his coat and scarf and have labels for shoes and his kitbag but other than that am resigning myself to losing all of his stuff within the first week anyway...

LBB - Danny refuses to budge in so much as 5 minute increments re his self imposed going to bed routine. I dont massively mind putting him down at 6.40ish just wish I got to have more cuddle/playtime with him during the week - though he seems to want to have playtime between 11pm and 3 in the morning so maybe I should just bite the bullet and embrace the opportunity then

Rosie - we peg a towel over Danny's lower body (using the handy bar on the trip trap baby set) and stick a long sleeved bib over his upper body. Pelican bibs plus long sleeved bib would be ideal but Danny, like DS1, has an irrational hatred of pelican bibs and hurls them away with great force. If only they did Hazmat suits for babies...
