prawn crackers are rice flour aren't they [ponders]

i'm sure i've seen corn tortillas somewhere, i wonder are they wf or just flavoured with some maize but still wheat based?

BLW is such a pain in the arse if you're weaning for allergies!

rye, wheat, oats, barley and most grains are off limits due to glutan... rice and corn are about the only grains that are ok.

i've been giving him gf bread for breakfast but tbh, besides the fact that free from or not i think it's loaded with crap, he's not keen on it... mostly because there's little enough i can put on it for him, really must pick up some olive spread for him!

dinkystinky · 10/09/2009 21:43

Hi Mamagoose - lovely to see you back on and wow at Indigo's accelerated development! She's the youngest of 3 too isnt she like Pink's A so being the youngest of 3 clearly makes for accelerated development I'm back at work too from next Tuesday - the plan for tomorrow is playgroup with both boys in the morning, maybe quick yoga session over lunch, off to a funfair in the afternoon with the boys and then off to the theatre in the evening with DH (leaving nanny with the boys, bottle of EBM and a charlie & lola dvd to sort out bedtime [grn]) to see Arcadia - cant wait.

Hmm - would potato patties (make some mash, stick in some corn and other veg, then flatten and bake till go golden) work for A Pink? I find them pretty bland but little ones seem to like them.

PT sorry to hear about you having to deal with allergies DS2 is/was allergic to eggs, I remember it being a real pain!

You lot have a very mobile lot. A is like a beached whale for most of the time! She can roll onto her tum and them rotate 360 but not alot more than that!

dinkystinky · 10/09/2009 21:50

Sorry - third and final post, I promise - LBB, sorry to hear about Luke's eczema. DS1 had and still has eczema but is gradually getting better. I think that some food exacerbated his eczema so may be worth keeping track of what he is eating and when the flare ups happen so you can try and avoid those things. Rose oil is pretty good for eczema and I've found epaderm is pretty good on the bad flare ups. Try and keep bathing down and not to use any products on him while the flare ups are going on.

littleboyblue · 10/09/2009 22:01

Thanks dinky
I told the doc I was only bathing him once/twice a week at most because his skin all over was quite dry but the doc told me that it is advised to bath babies with ezcema everyday to keep moisture on the skin (as long as used with medicated ointment).
I did ask him about foods etc and if it was a form of allergy to something but was told it wasn't seriou enough to worry about really and just to carry on as normal if creams keep it under control.
That I can think of, the only common factor in the times he has had bad flare-ups is that it is the day after he has been out in the sun. I obviously put sunblock on him and keep him sheltered as much as I can, but there have been a few times where he has been out of pushchair whilst feeding or just if he's bored etc. and I can't think of anything else that I know has happened with each time apart from that. He is very pale so might have something to do with the sun. I don't do well in the sun either

PinkTulips · 10/09/2009 22:05

cross posted with ye lbb and mamagoose

glad Luke is on the mend lbb, hope tonight is even better

mamagoose... wow! and i thought A was early at the movement stuff compared to my older two but Indy is really flying. Bet you're exhausted!

PinkTulips · 10/09/2009 22:13

lbb... could it be the suncream itself? ds1 reacts to alot of suncreams, tesco sensitive is good though, no reaction but good protection.

mcdreamy... the allergies aren't A thankfully...my dd is wheat and was cow's milk intolerant and ds1 was cow's milk intolerant so i'm being careful with weaning to be on the safe side.

Although worryingly he got a rash on his face yesterda where i missed some stuck on food when cleaning him after breakfast....

lbb and dinky, dp has severe eczema (constant steroid treatment needed) and finds if he leaves it longer than 48 hours between showers it flares up badly so i think the doc is right, more washing is better but only if meds/creams are used... dp finds frequent washing without using his cream afterwards does irritate.

littlesez · 10/09/2009 22:15

swampster · 10/09/2009 22:38

LBB - advice on eczema is often really conflicting so if something isn't working for you don't be afraid to try something different.

DS1 has eczema and it took me a while to realise that (like me) he was sensitive to mineral oil. So Oilatum made it much worse. It cleared up once I stopped using mineral oils altogether and started moisturising really regularly. And he hasn't really had it now for three out of five years.

I'm of the school of fewer baths = better for eczema and a pop sock full of porridge oats (yes really!) in the bath water is fantastic. If you know any South Africans they will probably tell you to put a rooibos teabag in the bath water (cure-all ).

I also hear that keeping well oiled inside is just as important so lots of water and loads of omega-3s.

A recent Norwegian study suggests that eating fish was significant in preventing eczema in children (more important than maternal consumption in pregnancy and more important than kids taking fish oil supplements).

PinkTulips · 10/09/2009 22:42

yep porridge baths are the biz-ness for skin probs

swampster · 10/09/2009 22:44

Hi Mapleleaf, please make your GP sort out your blocked duct with ABs, and like littlesez says, have a look at sites like Kellymom.

I know someone who fed from one breast for ages (two+ years) after her LO refused the other breast quite early on. Not ideal, but necessarily a big problem.

elkiedee · 11/09/2009 00:26

Welcome Maple, hope you can find some advice on bf that enables you to carry on at least morning and night if that's what you want to do.

Hi to everyone who's reappeared after days, weeks or months away and hi as well to everyone else.

littleboyblue · 11/09/2009 03:35

PT I did think about it being the cream so tried a couple of different brands, but I suppose they're mostly all the same so maybe....
Thanks swampy Atm, everything is clear and the dry patches around his elbows and on his chest have cleared up so I think I'll stick with what we're doing and see how it goes.
Interesting about the fish, they have been eating a bit of it and I'm making fish pate over the weekend for sandwhiches/crackers too.

porridge oats? Really? How odd. Will remember it though

Luke's been awake a few times tonight. His breathing sounds a bit better than last night, so I got the monitors out and decided to sleep in my own bed. Not finding it easy to relax, but I def think the worst is over.

dinkystinky · 11/09/2009 09:18

There I was yesterday calling Danny a gummy wonder and after another shocking night last night it appears a tooth is breaking through. I wonder if I call him a shocking sleeper on the thread today if he'll sleep through tonight

Mapleleaf134 · 11/09/2009 09:57

Thanks for all your suggestions, you lovely people I will go to gp. Don't think it's infected, but don't want it to become so, either! Don't think it's teething - he has two teeth that appeared quite suddenly and without any (other) fuss or drooling, but really, who knows?

My ds's weight has always been on the low side but has finally crept up to 2nd percentile line now that he's being supplemented with formula.

Thought he was developmentally advanced (sitting since 5 mos, and now walking forwards on hands and rocking bum up in the air) because he was small, but mamagoose - wow!

Have just finished second week back at work. So hard. DH has taken 6-month leave of absence to be with ds, which is marvellous, but makes me so jealous when I leave in the morning and they're playing on the bed in their pyjamas ! Luckily have Fridays off to reclaim ds!

dinkystinky · 11/09/2009 12:59

Glad you're going to the GP Mapleleaf - hopefully ABs will sort it out in no time at all. And sorry you're finding the return to work hard - I'll be going through exactly the same as you next week, and I remember when I went back after DS1 finding myself emotionally mentally and physically shattered every night at first as the commute, juggling between mum and work mode and trying to put a corporate head on after months really took it out of me - but then I got used to it and all was fine. Its great you get Fridays with your boy and lovely that your DH gets to spend 6 months of quality time with him; I know my DH would have loved to do that with DS1 and would love to do it with Danny but financially its just not viable to do so at the moment. Fortunately we do have a wonderful nanny who the boys love who is almost like family (been with us nearly 3 years) who will be looking after them when I'm at work.

Right, all those of you with Tripp Trapps and BLW babies (or just v messy spoon feeders) I have discovered a way to save on 3 changes of outfit a day! It involves a towel draped over the baby set bar and pegged in place coupled up with a long sleeve bib where the flap bit goes over the front of the baby bar set. Its amazing - Danny has actually been in the same outfit all day today, despite having lots of berries plum and yoghurt for breakfast and muffin pizza with lots of tomato puree and yoghurt for lunch. Hmm, perhaps I should patent this invention and make my millions Or perhaps not

PinkTulips · 11/09/2009 17:03

She went on her holiday on sunday so i'm guessing he improved

Cocodrillo · 11/09/2009 17:28

ah ok! good! i saw a post saying his temp was going up and up and up and then nothing!

PinkTulips · 11/09/2009 17:39

was wondering myself when i saw you ask but checked FB and she updated her status before she headed off.

Cocodrillo · 11/09/2009 21:10

good good

sorry about DDs leg, hope she is not too frustrated by the immobility...

meanwhile our kids are driving me batty, the two older ones fight and squabble constantly, eg I go to feed the cat and they've got each other in a headlock, then you hear a crash, then wailing.. I ask DD2 to stop it and she laughs, says sorry and then CARRIES ON. the boy-baby is lovely, but will only eat fruit puree, melon chunks and bananas. I am not exaggerating, that is his diet. He cries if offered anything else! Also VERY FRUSTRATING AND ANNOYING.

Cocodrillo · 11/09/2009 21:27

(sorry for the shouting )
