speaking of carnage... i fed A an overripe plum yesterday... or rather he attempted to self feed. He looked like a road traffic accident victim by the end

glad danny behaved with his dinner, pity he had such issues with the travel cot though. sounds like a lovely weekend though despite that

dinkystinky · 01/09/2009 21:34

Oh yes, Danny does a good line in plum carnage too. Nectarines make for particularly delightful explosions too I find.

A question for you Pink as a veteran BLWer - how on earth do you keep their clothes relatively clean while going through the BLWing? I have long sleeve bibs which we used with DS1 as well as crumb catcher plastic bibs but we're still getting through 3 changes of clothes a day for danny...

OP posts:
PinkTulips · 01/09/2009 22:25

you don't.

There's a reason i have practically no 6-12 or 12-18 age group hand me downs from ds1

best solution i've ever come up with is to strip to the nappy before feeding, put a muslin around their neck like a giant bib to catch the worst and wipe don and redress after food.

Wish i'd figured that out before ds1 irrevocably stained every single item of clothing he owns but ho-hum!

yummyspottyblueberry · 02/09/2009 07:47

(((MOS)))

Glad you had a good break Dinky and the BLW was such a hit with the in-laws.

Kidfests sound fun, I haven't heard of anything like that near me but then again I've never looked. Might have to check out our castle.

Yaaaaaawn..... too much activity yesterday. At least the boys have gone back to sleeping through again (one perk of the colder weather!) as I really dont think I could have physically gotten out of bed last night!
Another similar day plan today.

Anyone got any fun plans?

dinkystinky · 02/09/2009 09:29

Hmm, Danny is not such a fan of eating in the nude or semi-nude so may just need to resign myself to stained clothes - or ensure he eats while in clothes the same colour as the foods he's eating so the stains blend in

Not surprised you're tired Spotty after such a go-go-go day but hurrah for the boys sleeping properly at nights again. Is really cold and wet here so really dont want to go out but think am going to have a powerwalk with Danny over to baby massage then march - or more probably swim - over to a baby playgroup this afternoon if the little one is up for it (think he's coming down with another cold so may just want to sleep this afternoon or have a quiet one).

PolkSaladLucie · 02/09/2009 09:50

I've done that Dinky - made sure M is wearing colour appropriate clothes!

Although, she has an awful bug atm, has nasty diarrhoea and GP has said only half strength milk and no solids - poor lamb is most unhappy. My MIL is convinced it's becasue she's had a bit of a cold and has been swallowing lots of mucus and dribble, but do you think it could be an allergic reaction to something?

PinkTulips · 02/09/2009 10:10

Yeah, tbh it's too cold here some days to strip A so we're accumulating stained clothes too.

One thing i do do is fed him in his sleepsuit/pjs in the morning so they get stained and not his day clothes, he's still only on 2 meals and one snack a day and the snack is usually dry stuff so he's only getting covered in food once more during the day this way and if it's warm enough i either; strip him to eat or let his clothes get dirty and let him crawl around naked for a while afterwards or pop him straight in the bath and dress him in his pjs for bed a bit early.

congrats on the sleeeping boys spotty, we've discovered A seems to sleep better with some static on the radio and the light on in the bedroom but he's still waking when we go to bed so as soon as everyones back in a decent routine he's going into ds1's room

PinkTulips · 02/09/2009 11:56

dinky, i've just had a flashback to something i did with ds1... i kept the stained tops downstairs and changed him into a stained one for meals and then back into his clean top afterwards... we weaned him over winter and it was too cold to strip him. I figured a few very stained tops was better than all his tops having some staining

yummyspottyblueberry · 02/09/2009 15:58

Sam fell off the bed

It is true; your 1st child is made of china, your 2nd is made of rubber.

I don't think he bounced much though

dinkystinky · 02/09/2009 16:07

Oh Spotty - sending both you and Sam huge hugs. Honestly, I think most people's little ones (including PFBs) have fallen off beds/sofas/seats/beanbags/laps/tables etc. at one point or another and little boys especially are v accident prone (as much more curious about things but no sense of self preservation whatsoever in my experience) but it does still make you feel rubbish when something like that happens.

PSL - sorry M is under the weather. Does sound like a bug to me (or several if she's got a cold too) rather than a food allergy - though the mucus could be causing the greenish poos and vomming (Danny has a cold at the moment and is vomming abit too - always a bit of mucus in the vom). Hope she gets better soon.

Pink - that's genius re re-using the most stained of the clothes for meal times. Think we'll adopt that tactic!

PinkTulips · 02/09/2009 16:34

spotty... all mine have fallen off the bed, repeatedly, as babies

And dd and ds1 used to fall on a wood floor in our old apartment which was even worse.

A has done it 3 times so far... once in England at the hotel, i turned around to get something from the suitcase on the next bed and he rolled of the bed being used as a baby area, bounced off my bed that was next to it and landed on the floor... that was his first time doing a double roll. then a few weeks ago i left him sitting on our bed while i was in the en suite watching him and dd was supposedly making sure he didn't fall... got distracted by ds1 and didn't notice dd had wandered off and next thing A was on the floor howling. And 2 nights ago i woke up to see him climbing off the edge of the bed which went well til he tried to sit on the ground and fell backwards.

PSL... A had a tummy bug last week and it sounds similar to hat M has, he had a day of puking and then a day of horrid diarrhea and then was back to normal

littlesez · 02/09/2009 20:39

hellooooooooooooooooooooo

how are you lovelies! I am so sorry i have abandoned you all for cloth nappy tree
so the joys of weaning are upon us, well apart from the stained clothes i am enjoying izzy's little face everything she tries something new. BLW ladies what you think of this? whe i try to give the food in her hands she sucks off big chokable size chunks and so instead of grabbing food out of her mouth in a panic i just spoon feed now well izzy tries too! usually ends up splatting on me though

so whats new! izzy is not really into sitting everytime i put her on her bum she just launches her hips forward to stand up and then bounce until she tires herself out!
she is really into shouting and screaming not just making noise i am sure she is angry teeth maybe?

well i must say 6 months down the line i am thoroughly LOVING motherhood, i think i am doing a good job too. wanted to be a sahm but although we have beeen fine on MA we cant live of anyless so i havve to sort something out by the 19th

got myself onto a pnd support group (docs diagnosed it but dont think its that think its ptsd from birth) aand some psychotherapy so things are looking up yaay!

i really want to know is anyone pg again yet? or ttc or thinking about it? i want to wait for at least 3 years but we will see

love you all you fab febbers xxx

swampster · 02/09/2009 21:42

littlesez! I know CNT has been down tonight!

spotty, I have a really laidback friend whose mantra was always they only do it once - a in, yes, she fell off the bed, she only did it once... Clearly not the case chez pink.

I have three sleeping DSs! [bliss]

mumoverseas · 02/09/2009 21:55

hello all, welcome back littlesez spotty as others have said, they've all done it. Not happened (yet!) with H as I've been extra careful but happened with DD2 when she was around his age which was really scary as she did a triple roll off the really high bed onto a concrete call which resulted in a trip to the hospital in Saudi.

Am so very careful with H as a result and won't leave him on the bed alone now, even with pillows all round him.

Got rid of DS1 and DD1 today. Back to their (different and opposite directions) today. DD has been at her school for a year now but DS1 is new to his school into the lower 6th. He looked so very grown up in his suit and luckily met a few of his old friends from his old prep school that had gone onto the new school at the end of year 8 when he came out to Saudi. Just got a really nice text saying it is amazing, he loves it and thanking us for letting him go there. Makes it (almost!) worth the 8k a term fees

DH was back first thing this morning to help with the rushing around (had to fit DSs orthodontist and hospital appointment in as well) so pretty tired now.

MS if you are out there, we are up your way Sunday pm/Monday having a nose at houses. We are staying in a hotel in Diss and exploring that area

bumpsnowjustplump · 02/09/2009 22:17

Evening all. I am just back from A&E as Owen has been really ill. He has had a cold and cough for 2 weeks and I have been putting it down to his teeth. Today he hasnt fed and had a temp of 37.5. Gave calpol but it kept rising. Rushed him to hospital when it hit 39.1. They checked his throat, ears and chest and sent us home saying it was a virus. We are still really worried, his temp is now 38.8 and his breathing is very sharp and he has woken 3 times screaming.....

I am not going to sleep tonight and going to take his temp often, I am so worried he may fit or worse.... I dont know what else to do!!

swampster · 02/09/2009 22:55

God, bump, that is so worrying! Hope he gets better quickly.

PolkSaladLucie · 02/09/2009 23:13

Gosh, we are all in the wars, aren't we?!

M is still bad, so we've now had nearly 5 full days of diarrhoea. I hate it - she's so upset by it. She's got really clingy recently (understandably) and finally fell asleep on me so I transferred her onto the sofa so I could run to the loo and turned around to see her roll off and land on our hardwood floors, on her head. So clearly my first born isn't made of china!!!

Gah bumps can't believe they sent you home with no clear idea what's going on. Did he have any water or other liquid today? Hope he improves soon. For what it's worth, I was told that with a really high temp you can double dose calpol (or one calpol and one calprofen) to bring the temp down and then alternate to keep things under control. Might be worth considering to give him a better night and give you a bit of piece of mind.

yummyspottyblueberry · 03/09/2009 08:11

You are all terrible mothers, how on earth could you let your children fall off beds and sofas!? He's fine, I'm fine, he had shoved the 'bumper' pillow onto the floor 1st so fell onto that. Hit the back of his head on the bottom bar of the cot though so I kept an eye.

Hi Littlesez! Thought i'd seen you on CNT a few times. Glad you are enjoying being a mummy so much

I have used that mantra several times myself Swampy and touch wood so far i've managed to stick to my word! Wayhey for the swampboys hope you got a good night.

MOS - Glad your DH is back to help you and DS1 is enjoying 6th form

(((bumps))) how are things this morning? Is he any better? And M PSL?

Hope all poorly bairns get well soon

I went to a Salsa class last night with some ladies from my toy library group and practically couldnt walk up the stairs when I got home [soooooo unfit] but it made a nice change from swimming and yogalates. Helped that we were howling with laughter for most of it

It's so dark outside and lashing, just like winter! A day of indoor drying again and baking. Must stock the freezer for Sam as well, have been a bit lax this time round!

mumoverseas · 03/09/2009 08:43

bumps how scary, I hope Owen is ok today.

spotty I used to go salsa dancing every week and loved it. Then I moved to Saudi where they don't do things like that

Bad nights sleep last night as a bit squashed with H AND DH in it.
On the bright side, I'm just going to have a shower and be dropped off at a spa for the day, 10am til 4pm! Have two treatments booked and of course all the facilities but am tempted to ask if I can just sleep in a side room all day.
Am wondering how DH will cope with DD and DS on his own

yummyspottyblueberry · 03/09/2009 09:28

Have a fab time!

Could quite go an indian head massage at the moment

PolkSaladLucie · 03/09/2009 10:19

Oooh, have a loveley time MOS!

M seems to be on the mend bug wise - J has the pleasure of her company today! No obvious signs of trauma from the head banging, I think she landed on her blanket first.

I'm bricking it today as I have a colarectal doodah later - not looking forward to it at all!

dinkystinky · 03/09/2009 15:05

Afternoon all. Bumps - poor you and poor Owen; I really hope his temp breaks soon and you can all rest easy. You can alternate calpol and infant nurofen every 2 hours to keep his temp down, also try sponging him down with luke warm water and dont over dress him. If he wont feed, spoon or syringe water or bm (I think you have a freezer full) into his mouth.

PSL - poor M, glad she seems to be on the mend.

Littlesez - lovely to see you on the board again. Glad you're loving motherhood so much.

Swampster - envious of your sleeping boys. DS1 has been sleeping well at nights but is finally in the process of dropping his lunchtime nap so abit cranky in the afternoons but Danny is going through another sleep is for the weak phase and had me up every hour and a half last night with a nice 2 hour long session of refusing to sleep at all from around 2 this morning (though thank god is having a nice long nap at long last this afternoon).

MoS - hurrah for school having started for the elder DC and DH returing to our shores - really glad that DS1 is enjoying his new school (though like Spotty I'm ready to faint at the fees!). Have a lovely time at your spa today and hope house hunting/sussing goes well.

Discovered today that Danny is a huge fan of butternut squash (just like DS1 was - we used to call him butternut josh ) so will be hunting out some orange trousers and tops for him to live in...

bumpsnowjustplump · 03/09/2009 15:20

I am just back from my mums, been there since 11 this morning trying to collect a urine sample for ds... We sure had fun with that... Needless to say both Owen and I need a bath and a change of clothes...

We had a very bad night. I send dp to sleep on the sofa so that DS and I could share the bed. He slept fitfully but his temp never came down, at one point he only had a vest on and the fan on but his temp was 39.6!!! I took him to my GP and Dr is not too worried at the moment but if temp goes up anymore or if there is no improvement tomorrow we have to go back... He has told me to offer milk every two hours and not to give solids today.. He has had two feeds since then so that is ok. He really is very poorly he is just laying there moaning quietly... Dr thinks it is a viral infection but wants to rule out urine infection just incase......

elkiedee · 03/09/2009 22:37

Bumps, hope Owen gets better very soon.

bumpsnowjustplump · 04/09/2009 09:25

We have had another bad night. DS has refused to feed and his temp is 39.5. He is moaning and very unwell... We may cancel our holiday if he is not 100%
