Now no one said there'd be alcohol!!!!! Hmmm

PinkTulips · 25/08/2009 21:18

booze? [books plane ticket]

A's getting the hang of BLW finally, he managed some baby corn tonight and has been turning his nose up at puree all day. He picked the hospital coffee shop with four paeds at the next table to do his first BLW gagging though.... not embarrassing at all

mos how bloody rude, people really aren't brought up well these days are they? Don't blame you for being hesitant to do that trip again.

POL coming to visit tomorrow... i may be on here alot over the next few days

SweetTalkinWoman · 25/08/2009 21:31

Ouch! I've just managed to pour boiled water over my left thumb and it bloody hurts. I ran it under the cold tap immediately but it's pretty swollen and throbbing. How stupid of me!

Count me in for Friday! What time shall we aim for? 12.30ish? Shall we see what the weather forecast is tomorrow and then plan the location? Would of course be up for a glass of wine!! This would be my last chance to meet up before returning to work, so looking forward to it.

Gotta go as Sam's crying - he seems to suffer with his reflux at this time of the evening still.

PolkSaladLucie · 25/08/2009 22:30

Evenin' all.

We were loving the BLW, but had just stuck at individual sticks of fruit and veg - however - tonight we had fish pie, and so did M! She loved it, and had so much fun rubbing it in her hair and all over the table! John's parents were with us and couldn't get over it!

littleboyblue · 26/08/2009 07:37

Morning.
We're supposed to be going for a picnic today in our local water park, but I think it's going to rain later. It's raining now. The people I'm meeting said they're still going.........

mumoverseas · 26/08/2009 07:58

hmm] wine....
need to talk to DCs 1 and 2 when they surface to find what they've planned for the rest of the week. I really need to get down to mums again to recover more personal things, photos etc as the house may well be sold by the time I come back at the end of December and if so my brothers will have just slung everything out. Will see whether DH's plans allow us to go down when he is back but pretty sure he has planned loads. Can't believe I've run out of time!

bumpsnowjustplump · 26/08/2009 08:52

Morning all sorry I am not keeping up very well... We are doing a mix of blw and mashed food... I am mashing the meat but everthing else he is having in sticks... Owen is really poorly at the moment, I am really praying it is his teeth finally coming through.... He has a high temp, nasty cold and cough etc... crying most of the night and grizzling most of the day... pulling his ear and always has something chomping in his mouth......

It feels like he has been teething for ever!!!!

SweetTalkinWoman · 26/08/2009 08:52

Right - Orlena at Childminder's, Sam having a nap, I can continue with the post I started last night!

MOS would be lovely to see you on Friday, but sounds like you have loads to squeeze in. Maybe see how you feel on the day!! Maybe the wine will be too tempting...

RE the constipation, thanks for the advice and I will be trying various things over the next few days, although was advised by paediatrician to avoid citrus fruits.

KBN looking forward to seeing you on Friday! We are similar with BLW - I'm giving Sam purees but also things to hold and munch on. The childminder has not done BLW before but am sure she'd give it a bash!! I'm finding it tricky to find things to give Sam to feed himself, without having to prepare two separate meals. Because of all the things we are trying to avaoid, he can't just eat what I give DD as most of the time there's some dairy, wheat or eggs invovled!!

Right, off to get my hair cut now. Since having a shorter style I find that it takes a bit more maintenance and grows out quickly!

dinkystinky · 26/08/2009 09:04

Morning all. Bumps - sorry Owen, and you, are still suffering so with his teething. Have you tried the Anbesol ointment on him? Honestly my friend swears by it.

STW - ouch! Your poor hand! Glad to see it hasnt hampered your ability to MN though 12.30ish sounds fine to me (KBN - work for you? Or would you prefer abit earlier if you need to get back to pick up DD from her last day at nursery?) and waiting till tomorrow to decide where is good too - with any luck Danny will drop off on the walk there, otherwise he'll probably be mugging me for my food.

LBB - I think a water park is as good a place as any to get wet in the rain Hopefully the rain will pass over this morning and hold off for the rest of the day.

Having dropped down to morning and evening/night only breastfeeds for Danny for all of a day and expressing twice a day, my period returned with a vengeance last night - it was like something out of a horror movie. Not a nice start to the day - which started at 4.55 anyway this morning thanks to Danny who decided he wanted to get some crawling practice in this morning and he needed an audience. The little darling is now snoozing away and I'm desperatey brewing coffee and finding matchsticks to prop up my eyelids. Was a v proud mummy last night though - DS1 told me he was going to read me a book at his bedtime story time and proceeded to recite most of "Green Eggs and Ham" (a story he's only had read to him a couple of times) to me. Was but very proud of his memory.

Pink - glad A is getting the hang of finger food though typical re the gagging in front of an audience. We're off to MiL's in Brighton for the bank holiday weekend - she's lovely but very houseproud. I think she's going to have a shock when BLW Danny hits her dining room (which has cream upholstered chairs and a light carpet). May just have to feed him rice cakes and toast all bank holiday weekend to avoid him being disinherited

PSL - loving the thought of M smearing fish pie all around. Havent tried Danny on wet stuff like that for dinner yet (he's had weetabix and quinoa based porridge for breakfast which he's enjoyed though)- may need to make something up one evening for him and his big brother to enjoy smearing around.

littleboyblue · 26/08/2009 09:09

dinky I'm not going to park. Have invited a friend round with his dc's now.
The first period's always the worst isn't it?

bumpsnowjustplump · 26/08/2009 09:15

I bought an organic chicken yesterday and mashed some up with avocado for ds as dd loved it. Guess what!!!! He doesn't like it.... I have batched up a few portions for him and frozen it but what can I add to it that might make it nicer for him?? The only bits we are mashing is the meat... Last night he had spag bog but with gluton free pasta stars instead of spag.... he he he

dinkystinky · 26/08/2009 09:28

try adding tomato puree bumps to hide the evil avocado taste.

elkiedee · 26/08/2009 10:10

dinky, sorry you had such a rough night but your descriptions of Danny's antics do make me laugh - Conor seems to have decided he wants to cosleep with us all the time, though I think I managed to put him down in his basket for a few hours on the third go last night, dp woke up and saw him in our bed at 5 am or so but that was after his first feed. He's really outgrown the basket but he's even less likely to accept being put in the cot.

Do you have anything you can take to put under where D's sitting at your MIL's house? I thought all babies of this age were incredibly messy, BLW or not.

elkiedee · 26/08/2009 10:13

I am going to the park, but am going with a friend and her two to try out a drop in with indoor and outdoor space. They also have a very spacious cafe so can and do host a substantial number of buggies.

LBB, hope you have a good day.

PinkTulips · 26/08/2009 11:34

STW... know how you feel about finding it difficult to combine blw with family food and an allergy diet. I have to admit i've given up for the time being, i feed A his main meal earlier than our dinner and then give him finger food or allergy safe bits of our food while the rest of us have dinner. That way he's still used to eating with us but i'm not preparing two separate meals (or 3 if dd can't eat our food) all at once.

He had a slice of gf toast for brekkie this morning and i spooned a little puree into him too (with his help holding the spoon ) and loved it.

bumps... I had accidentally given him some of dd's gf bread last week that had sesame seeds in it so when he hadn't reacted i figured the hummous would be safe enough.

He pooed again today (only 2 days this time) so i think the tiny bit of OJ with his dinner is helping, thanks again for that tip dinky

elkiedie, all babies are messy at this age alright, dd could plaster a room with puree but somehow the mess of BLW just seems to get into the most peculiar nooks and crannies and as it tends to be lumps of food as opposed to smooth purees it seems harder to clean off. My mother has heart failure whenever i give finger foods in her house... one one classic occasion she was kneeling down cleaning under the highchair while ds1 was eating... i did warn her that wasn't a wise idea but she ignored me... and got a nice big gloopy piece of chewed up mango dropped on her head for her trouble

katieblirdsnest · 26/08/2009 11:44

PSL i hate fish so that sounds like hell on earth to me. dp keeps trying to encourage me to eat it like i'm a 2 year old but to no avail. i cook it for dd and will give some to ivor of course but the idea of my beautiful baby's head smelling of evil fish...!

STW looking forward to meeting you too. i always have relatively short hair but it definitely needs more maintenance including needing to be washed more often. in the morning on day 2 i think i can get away without washing but by lunchtime always regret it as the greasy roots start to show themselves.

mos i know what you mean about cramming it all in. obviously i'm only going back to work, not to the other side of the world but i feel like i've got to suddenly do everything. devastated that baby rhyme time at the library was full this morning. however, PLEASE try and come on friday it would be lovely to meet you. and i'm sure you couldn't possibly have the same arseholes on the train again .

mos how fantastic of ds1. it really does make your heart swell doesn't it?! and makes trying to get your tongue round all the seuss stories worthwhile.

bumps sorry to hear ds isn't keen on the chicken and avocado. i tried ivor on lamb last week and he threw it all up over us both. had frozen the rest so am braving it again today but a bit more watered down.
dinky not all babies think avocado is the work of the devil, i gave some to ivor yesterday and he loved it.

he slept through from 7pm to 6am again last night. the night before i'd given him water instead of milk in the middle of the night, not sure if it's connected but fingers crossed it wasn't a one-off.

PolkSaladLucie · 26/08/2009 14:13

bumps I feel your pain - we had an awful night last night. M is so blocked up and very clingy and sorry for herself. She slept very badly last night and so, therefore, did I! Hope it passes soon.

M is also no too keen on avocado, understandably (I hate it!) but luckily my mum was there when she had it first so she polished it off!

yummyspottyblueberry · 26/08/2009 15:04

I'm struggling to do personals today as have started to read the thread several times but get inturrupted. Love all the BLW stories, i'm amazed at just how many people are doing it this time round, virtually no-one had heard of it when I did it with DS1 (HV included!)

Have just wasted most of the boys 2 hr nap by talking to my neighbour in the rain and tidying and sorting washing. I cant dry it quickly enough indoors with no heating on and have damp stuff everywhere! Gah!

What to do this afternoon? Crafts are out seeing as everywhere is clean and I am sick of reading stories and doing jigsaws. I hate the rain! DS2 is just waking so DS1 wont be far behind. May take them swimming - road is looking rather flooded

littleboyblue · 26/08/2009 15:27

Afternoon. I have been very naughty today and done nothing with the doys. I've given Jacob some colouring sheets and pens and left him to it and Luke has been playing with a calculator most of the day. I have spent the day on FB
I don't suppose it'll do them any harm in the long run, but will get a book out or something in a minute.

spotty I don't know why everyone doesn't do BLW! It is so much easier just to plonk a bit of food infront of him and let him get on with it, and no more spending whole days making a freezer worth or puree!

dinkystinky · 26/08/2009 16:25

Afternoon all. Rubbish weather down here in London too today - AND the leaves have started falling off trees. Its not even September yet - far too early for autumn to set in!

Spotty - DS1 is currently being entertained with balloon animals and he's loving it (and Danny rather likes the balloon animals too when he can get his little mitts on them) - fantastic mess free stuff though does take a little practice to get the animals right. I made him a balloon scooter last week which kept him entertained for ages.

KBN - yes, it did make reading the Seuss tongue twisters worth it. And I think avocado is meant to be catnip to most babies - tis just Danny and his birthdate twin M who clearly dont like it

Elkie - have located an old sheet which we'll use to cover the floor - and whoever Danny is sitting on as dont have a high chair at MiL's place.

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 26/08/2009 16:27

p.s. KBN - hurrah on Ivor sleeping through. Hope it happens again for you tonight

PinkTulips · 26/08/2009 16:27

amen to that lbb, i was so gutted when i thought A might not manage BLW, so relieved he's getting the hang of it.

pol aren't coming up after all (yippee!) so can relax a bit now.

spotty, we bought a dryer a few weeks ago as i struggled so badly last year with the washing and couldn't face it again this winter

littleboyblue · 26/08/2009 16:32

PT A friend of mine has a ds who is 2 months older than Luke. She was amazed when she saw Luke tucking into a sandwich! She has now started to give her ds more finger foods.

I cannot belive I've ignored the dc's all day! Well, I can
I did try to do a puzzle with ds1, but as every number is number 2 atm and every coloure is reen, he gets a bit frustrated when I keep saying "no, 3. say 3"

thehouseofmirth · 26/08/2009 19:01

Have had afternoon from hell with DS1 over whom I have no authority at all, apparently. So opened the wine early and am now pleasantly numb.

LBB the number/colour thing is totally normal -DS1 did that & everything was blue...
