Welcome to our new thread .

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
poppy34 · 14/08/2009 21:37

PUrée are you going to fmc - it is very good (it's where I was referred to my therapist from and had my scans there) but do be prepared to wait.

Deb I will email you a thread from our parents database at work as has similar issue - interestingly about a broken iCandy that was out of warranty and had loads of advice. I think for something like that time is not relevant as it's not fit for purpose. Someone said there is a bit on BBC site on the one show about complaint letters.

Thanks for all period pain sympathy - better today. Better go as bedtime battles Here due to teething and mild cold.

Pp- exciting re redundancy and well done whinegums. Double mountain buggy prob about size and a half up from normal buggy as mate had one- you can get them in shops but they are heavy.

Essie3 · 14/08/2009 21:52

OOh, jeffers - this is exciting!

Despite not having twins or two children, I can comment on prams. (Sad lady! )
I've seen an icandy pear, and it's humongous. Massive thing. I've also seen the mountain buggy one - I think, anyway; Sarah down the road with twins has a really neat buggy and I think it's that mountain buggy one. Neenz also has a mountain buggy, so await her return!

Been there done that, Ali, with the moany baby. Had it the other night, in fact. It's really draining! Iestyn keeps having tantrums now.

No prams allowed here either. I fantasize about a bugaboo chameleon, but for really stupid reasons (want to look cool) but the pram I have is great if untrendy. And I have a Quinny zapp in London which is trendy.

Totally failed to catch up there - several pages passed since my last post.

Oh, ktpie and sponge, you're freaking me out now! You x-post your x-posts!

Essie3 · 14/08/2009 21:53

BTW, have you seen the triplet buggy? ROFL. Might as well put a handle on a Mini and push that around the shops. But I wouldn't laugh if it happened to me, obviously.

spongebrainmaternitypants · 14/08/2009 21:58

Lol Essie, I know, I also noticed we'd x-posted our x-postings - bloody spooky!

I'm pretty sure Neenz mentioned that she had a mountain buggy but didn't like it for some reason. Will definitely ask her on her return. Which reminds me, I know a number of twin mummies so should pick their brains too!

Have just had a text from a friend who has just had her SIXTH failed IVF cycle - makes me feel so bloody grateful for what I have and if the only thing I have to worry about is what pram to buy then what a lucky lady I am .

poppy, sorry to hear E is not playing ball with bedtime.

bitofadramaqueen · 14/08/2009 22:31

Essie, everyone I know with a bugaboo chameleon has ditched it for a buggy already.

Sorry about your friend Sponge, I can't even begin to imagine how that feels.

Has anyone seen or heard from Amber lately? Is she still poorly or just busy house buying? I don't think I've spotted her on here for a few days. Thought maybe house number 1 was her fave and she was in a huff

AliPalli · 14/08/2009 22:40

sponge your poor friend.

Essie, Deb I have now relaxed, thanks. Know what you mean about the tantrums. We have just watched a couple of videos of P from January. He looks so chilled out (and fat) sitting on a rug not able to get to anything. I am sure it wasn't like that at the time, but it is different to being chased round the house by a very angry one year old who is trying to make me bend to his will.

Speaking of tantrums: Deb on the BF front the bedtime feed has stopped. Just down to first thing and sometimes mid-afternoon when we are at home and nothing else is going on. However, P continues to wake too early, and so there is a bit of bed hopping and feeding between 5 and 7 each day. I have strategies in place to try to whittle it down, but I am so dog tired in the morning that it is a case of taking the path of least resistance. Whinegums I am very impressed by the stopping BF. Well done. My goal is to get to a point that by the start of October I can go on a 2 night hen do without a) P really missing the BFs (pining for my company is ok), and b) my boobs not exploding. On the second of the two I think it would be ok now. I certainly don't fill up like I used to, and all my old bras a bit baggy . I am mourning the loss of my C cups

abdnhiker · 15/08/2009 10:20

PP Mountain buggy went bust? I am so glad I'm past the buggy stage then as they are simply the best and I loved mine. And fingers crossed about the redundancy/PHI for you. As for NZ and missing friends - I've found that it's possible to make good new friends if you're patient and you work at it. Anytime I meet someone I like at a playgroup etc. I make a point of getting their number and meeting up once. A lot of the time we don't click but I've made a couple close friends this way and it really makes a difference. The key is working at it, which you don't have to do if you're living where you grew up or went to school. It is easier with kids though as you're constantly meeting new people through groups and have an excuse to chat...

deb I'm so not keen on the pulling up of the shirt! I've refused to give it to Fraser if he demands it and he's learned to wait until it's offered except first thing when he wakes up in the morning. then there's no saying no...

sponge your poor friend - lusting after unaffordable buggies is a luxury isn't it?

Ali "very angry one year old who is trying to make me bend to his will." YES! Here too. And I'm back in my A-cups again...

AliPalli · 15/08/2009 19:54

Looks like everyone is enjoying their weekends.

Great day here with friends who have a 2.5 year old and a nearly 1 year old. A bit of a low point when P decided to drum the 2 year old's head with a beater from his music set . Other than that, a nice lunch here and then a walk to see the ducks and look at barges on the lock.

spongebrainmaternitypants · 15/08/2009 20:12

Hi guys, apologies to our Scottish contingent who, according to the weather forecast have had an awful day, but the weather here has been lovely - went to a friend's daughter's 1st birthday party and had such a nice day. Loads of older boys there for A to play with, he was in his element but sooo tired!

Amber has been around on FB so assume just busy.

Neenz is on FB tonight too so must be home from the hols .

AH, don't quote me but I think P&T bought out mountain buggy? And are you sure you're past the buggy stage? For good?

OP posts:
spongebrainmaternitypants · 15/08/2009 20:17

Do you think we should ask Neenz about this?

OP posts:
ktpie · 15/08/2009 20:42

BDQ - hope you enjoyed the wedding and didn't get too wet. How did you get on being child free? Sounds pretty good to me!

Debs- sounds like consumer rights are rubbish over there, I guess there isn't a right lot you can do apart from take the replacement.

Sponge - I think I've managed to avoid x posting this time, you posted just as I was about to start to write!
Your poor friend, it must be so exhausting and disheartening.

All this talk of trendy prams is making me laugh, I am never trendy in any other aspect of my life so can't imagine I would be with a pram!

On the stopping BF, my boobs didn't seem to notice at all. They have also shrunk which considering I'm pregnant doesn't bode well for when I'm not, also while we are on the subject they are a little saggier than they were, not spaniel ears yet though.

Abdn - I need to take your advice about meeting people, I moved down here to be with DH and I have a couple of good old friends from school who happened to also move here so not too bad but they don't live that close, don't have kids and have active social lives of their own. Have managed to make one good baby related friend who I used to work with (but weirdly only had one conversation with when we worked together, totally different departments) and am still in touch with some friends from work but other people I have met at baby groups etc I haven't made any effort to meet up with them, stupid really because I think a lot of them would have been happy to meet up, I just find that whole swapping numbers thing really awkward.

I am still in some weird cooking mode and today made a mince beef pie, very tasty but filling, especially with left over blackberry bake as pudding, am now full of pastry. Hilariously I did roast sweet potato with the pie and when we cut into them they were actually normal potatoes with orange skins, domestic goddess I am not!

AliPalli · 15/08/2009 22:28

Sponge: : that has made me cackle.

ktpie · 16/08/2009 07:28

Ali it made me grimace, DH walked in and said "What on earth is that disgusted face for?".
Not for us when camping, doesn't help that now J is about 2 inches away!

abdnhiker · 16/08/2009 08:34

Hmm, we don't have one of those tents with multiple rooms so there will be none of that for us while camping! There wasn't really any beforehand though, I like the idea but in practice we always decided it was too much hassle. Maybe if we had one of those giant couple sleeping bags instead of two backingpacking mummy bags...

sponge yup - baring surprises, I think we're done. It's part of the financial consequences of me quitting work. But my broodiness is disappearing too, I think three would be a lot of work and I'm loving life with the two we have. Plus I've finally got time for a cup of coffee and MN while the boys play. I feel like I really need this time to myself after three years of no time. If we have another I think I might resent losing that time. No guarantees of course, but it's not in the plan.

ktpie I hate the exchanging numbers thing too but remember than most mums are thrilled to meet up at the park! Also try us foreigners when you meet us at playgroups - we're always desperate for new friends Of my close friends, two are local, one is Irish, one is a kiwi, and one is American.

ktpie · 16/08/2009 08:57

That post made me sound like a bit of a prude didn't it!

Abdn - we have some mummy style sleeping bags but got two of the old fashioned rectangular ones from Decathlon, they were stupidly cheap, about £6 each and can be zipped together. We put one down as a base and use the other as a duvet and if it's cold zip them up together. Lovely and snuggly and warm and cosier than the mummy style ones. DH is like a big old hot water bottle though, apart from the farts and sweatiness.

Funnily enough the friend I have made is Ozzie, unfortunately they probably won't be over here for that much longer, another reason to make more effort.

This morning I have the urge to do some sewing, I seem to be turning into a fifties housewife, apart from the messy state of the house of course.

bitofadramaqueen · 16/08/2009 09:43

Morning all. Had a great time at the wedding and the sun came out in time for the photos so all good. Did miss S but enjoyed not having to 'parent'. Two gorgeous little boys at our table though so enjoyed playing peekaboo!

S is still at his GPs and despite enjoying a lie in I'm very much looking forward to him coming home!

ktpie · 16/08/2009 16:56

Where is everyone?

BDQ- glad the sun came out!

I didn't get the sewing machine out, but I did makes some bread (in the bread maker) and have a long nap!

Just doing a roast chicken, haven't had one for ages and it smells great, actually it's half a chicken, went to a farm shop yesterday and they only had giant chickens so the butcher cut it in half for us!

PiggyPenguin · 16/08/2009 17:04

Ummm roast chicken ummmm, can you tell its ages since we had a proper roast. Might have to get the stuff for one tomorrow now Ktpie as I can almost taste yours. I'll get dh to do his fantastic real sausage stuffing too. Yummy.

Had a lovely day here. We got the padding pool out and all three kids were splashing like mad in it. Jamie is very keen on water and spent most of the time standing under the shower bit trying to catch the spray, it was very cute.

Has anyone else bought reins for their lo yet? We have bought one of those rucksack reins things (the ladybird one) and it is adorable! It also works well and J went for a walk in the countryside yesterday with it on. He looked like such a big boy toddling along with his rucksack on!

whinegums · 16/08/2009 17:19

Great minds, I have just prepped our chicken (and real sausage stuffing, roast spuds and 'snips, veggies etc) to go in the oven! We haven't had a proper roast dinner for ages either. Yum!

Weather here is rubbish!! BDQ, glad you got a glimpse of sunshine. Oh, and Viva too, I have some pics of last Monday, I'll put them on FB if you like (want to make sure you're both ok with other peeps putting up photies of S and C first!).

I must say, B doesn't seem to bothered about lack of bf, but we've had a few rubbish nights. More rubbish than usual. Settled down a bit last night though, so fingers crossed for further improvements.

I ordered the turtle version of the rucksack with reins yesterday. Must stop online shopping - I already have my first pay packet spent... Ooops.

ktpie · 16/08/2009 17:28

Feel like I need some sausage stuffing now! Would be a tad difficult to stuff the chicken I have as it is half and it would all fall out, just got my parsnips ready whinegums, think we may have mashed potatoes though.

J is being more and more adventurous with his walking so going to have to get him some shoes, a lady in a shop yesterday was most concerned at his lack of shoes (silly woman), but he does need them for outside adventures. Any tips on where to go to get him measured? (I'm sure this will have been discussed before so sorry in advance!)

poppy34 · 16/08/2009 18:29

Quick post to mark place- had lovely day in the sun. Sponge so sorry for your friend but pmsl at the link. Makes up for all this stuff re daily mail- the fact that mnhq seem to have done fuck all about this article worries me. As a poster on some of the more sensitive and controversial boards re antenatal testing it makes me uneasy. There is a world of difference between putting something on a board and having it taken and used by a journalist without permission.

bitofadramaqueen · 16/08/2009 19:53

Hope everyone enjoyed their roast dinners!

What are these rucksacks with reins? S isn't even walking but I do love an excuse for online shopping! Any links?

DebInAustria · 16/08/2009 20:08

Roast dinners sound lovely, quick food here today as it was too hot for roasts!

Ethan's not walking yet either and is 14 months tomorrow - think he'll be one of the last, I'd like the link to the reins/rucksack though.

Hope you're all OK, tired here, new guests have arrived , and they're here for 2 weeks. I think the boys were disappointed that the 10 year old is a girl and not a boy! Yet Tristan's best friend is a girl. Only 1 more week to go before circus camp - yippee, means the boys will be out of the house from 8.30-4.30 now, I wonder who would like to have Ethan?

DebInAustria · 16/08/2009 20:11

found them BDQ - rucksacks

poppy34 · 16/08/2009 20:11

Deb glad you say that as Edie not walking either - cruises about but crawling clearly easier.

Bump to three do rucksack reins things and there is a mn discount.
