Morning all. Deb, hope Nigel is ok post BP testing. No help on double buggies from me I'm afraid, no way I'll ever be using one! I have a Quinny Buzz which is great but a bit heavy and bulky, and a Silver Cross Pop. I use the Pop almost all of the time, as I can bump it up and down the stairs with B in - far easier than carrying him up three flights. I cannot wait to move to a house!

I'm lurking, but finding it harder to post these days - B's new trick is to come over when I'm using my laptop and close the lid. Luckily not on my fingers yet.

I've finally stopped feeding B. He doesn't seem to be that bothered - well, our nights are not that much more disturbed than usual. He has no interest in other milk though - cow or formula. As he eats yogurt, milk on his cereal, cheese, etc, I can't say I'm too bothered. I am really glad not to be feeding him myself any more though - great while it lasted, but so pleased to be finished.

abdnhiker · 14/08/2009 10:53

the double mb is only 5cm wider than the single, but that being said, the single is one of the wider ones. Still if I could have afforded it, I'd have jumped at it.

sponge £699 for the buggy + carry cot at www.pushchairs.co.uk/acatalog/urban_double_navy.html. But it is worth the extra money in terms of quality. It is far easier to push DS1 in the MB than it is to push Fraser in the P&T in single mode. You only need one hand as the balance is so excellent and the quality is just perfect. DH as a complete bike nut absolute loves it. The problem is just that you need to have enough money to afford it in the first place

whinegums I'm starting to think seriously about stopping BF too - but Fraser is if anything more interested these days. We're down to 2x a day and the minute he sees me sit in the rocking chair (the only time I sit there is to feed him), he drops everything and runs over. It's amazing - but makes me wonder how we could stop without unleashing the full force of his fury (which is not to be underestimated these days).

spongebrainmaternitypants · 14/08/2009 10:58

Same price as the icandy though - does look fab. Will have to check out how much it would be to then convert it to a double buggy when Bill wants to sit up. Dh also a complete bike nut and wouldn't hesitate to spend that sort of money (and more!) on a bike. Plus ILs have offered some money to help out with buggy so we can be a bit more picky if we want!

ktpie, love your idea about having a range of buggies - one for each mood!

OP posts:
abdnhiker · 14/08/2009 11:01

sponge is it the same as the icandy? then definitely go for it over the icandy - it'd be infinitely better for walking and there's no cost to convert to the double - it comes with two seats already.

spongebrainmaternitypants · 14/08/2009 11:24

Ah right, so the £700 would include 2 seats and the carrycot bit? Hmm, very interesting. Yes, the icandy retails for about the same price, and then loads of extras on top!

I'm getting no work done today - my back is killing me although it's better than yesterday as I slept on the futon sofabed last night. I'm now drooling over one of these mattresses as we had a good futon for years in Vancouver and it was the most comfortable thing in the world. This is more affordable though.

pureeandpearls · 14/08/2009 13:20

Matress porn- I love it.

See now I'm wondering whether the MB is the way to go adbn, as it's a similar price to the First Wheels and three cm narrower (also three cm narrower than Nipper Sponge.) Have been spying double buggies out and about in Bromley and with the exception of a couple of smaller independent shops, they seem to fit no problem.

Good news- scan now sorted. Now all I need is to fight to get a booking in.

DebInAustria · 14/08/2009 13:45

Hi

Nigel's BP is fine, only one spike above normal but all in all he's OK which is a relief. We're all a bit tired and grumpy here, have put Ethan down and hoping for an hour of peace if the other 2 will go out to play.

I finally heard from the shop about the cot and all they are offering is a replacement side which I'll have to go along with.

Puree - car seat Q again, Ethan seemed to slip down in it today and trap his arm - surely that's not meant to happen , did I not have the cushion wedged onto him tight enough?

spongebrainmaternitypants · 14/08/2009 14:48

puree, lol at spending an extra £400 to save 3cm!!

Deb, great news about Nigel but I'm about the cot - if you were in England there would be loads you could do (number one, go to your local paper), but really don't know what to suggest in Austria .

OP posts:
bitofadramaqueen · 14/08/2009 16:19

Deb, that's terrible re the cot. Can you get in touch with manufacturers? Is there an Austrian type of trading standards? Good news on the BP though.

I'm feeling a bit deflated about how little we've achieved on our week off. Always wanted to have a lazy week, but had meant to fit more fun things in. We put S into nursery for 3 days so we could have some nice relaxing time but we've wasted it

jeffers61 · 14/08/2009 16:42

We have been using the icandy pear for months now and have walked miles and miles with it. It is brilliant, extremely sturdy, and extremely manouevrable. What a brilliant British invention. We could not recommend it highly enough.

whinegums · 14/08/2009 16:58

BDQ - erm, if you achieved so little, surely that's a relaxing week? And from FB it looked like you were doing some post boozing lounging too.

Weather has been rubbish here today - we've been confined to barracks.

Jeffers61 - do you work for icandy?! Do we know you under a different guise perhaps and you're a June 08 regular who's namechanged? Or are you hijacking?!

whinegums · 14/08/2009 17:09

Not being rude btw, just curious!

PenguinProject · 14/08/2009 17:14

Catch Up 1:

KTPie & Deb - Thank for you the stacking cups. It's all getting a bit obsessional now...

Puree - Can't help re: scan I'm afraid, but I', really hoping that everything is ok.

KTPie - Your cooking frenzy sounds delicious. I'm terrified of wasps, bees, hornets, anything that stings. The 1st campsite we went to last weekend has at least three wasps nests so we went somewhere else.

AliP - Taga looks amazing, but it costs more than our car! Love the idea of adding skis Debs.

Poppy & allnew - period pains and periods full stop worse here too since giving birth...via a c section.

BDQ - I thought the latest HP film had the worst acting so far. It was as if they rushed it?

Mountain buggies are NZ based company and they went bust recently, so I'm guessing if you can still get them they've been bailed out. Worth knowing as it might mean it'd been difficult to get them fixed if anything goes wrong...

Opps,

Deb - Great news about Nigel's BP, not impressed with the response you got re: the cot though.

Ok, more redundancy news today...Within the next month people of my level will be put on notice of their jobs being at risk. At hat point, if they don't get the jobs they choose to apply for they will be made redundant (more than double the number of applicants than available positions). I am currently awaiting confirmation that my PHI (permanent health insurance = 2/3 of salary) application has gone through. If my PHI claim is successful I cannot be made redundant whilst on PHI, but if I don't get one of the new roles, I will be made redundant when I am well enough go back to work. Does that all make sense? It's a much better situation than I thought I would be in. Effectively, if accepted, stay on PHI until 100% better, then get made redundant with a reasonable pay off. It means that NZ is probably on the cards which has made DH very, very happy.

Phew!

I was explaining to DH that I may feel isolated in NZ with just his family for support and he said, well you'll still have your MN ladies, you can get up in the morning and talk to them when they're on in the evening. I thought that was really sweet.

bitofadramaqueen · 14/08/2009 19:07

pp I know quite a bit about PHI so it makes sense to me.

spongebrainmaternitypants · 14/08/2009 19:11

Thanks jeffers! PP, wow, your NZ/redundancy news sounds so exciting! I am very but also that you will be going to NZ - but what an amazing opportunity for you. And what an amazing place for R to spend his childhood. How long do you think you'll stay there for? Long enough for us to save up for a visit I hope!

Oh and thank you so much for the mat clothes btw - you're a star .

OP posts:
ktpie · 14/08/2009 19:12

Whinegums - glad stopping BF has gone so well.
J likes to pull the laptop screen backwards and hang off it, probably not very good for it.

Deb - good news about Nigel's blood pressure.

BDQ - can you do something exciting over the weekend to make up for it? Just think of the week as recharging your batteries.

PP - I have become more scared of wasps, went to a playground today that seems to have loads of them and where my friends little girl got stung on the cheek last week, we didn't stay long.
Make sure it is somewhere in NZ with decent broadband!

Search for jeffers61, all of their posts have been singing the praises of the icandy. Some the same thing copied and pasted. Salesman perhaps?

spongebrainmaternitypants · 14/08/2009 19:15

AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

ktpie, we x-posted again!!!

Yes, suspect jeffers is not entirely kosher!

OP posts:
ktpie · 14/08/2009 19:17

Sponge we posted at the same time again!

AliPalli · 14/08/2009 19:37

Ooh a troll, how exciting.

PP exciting news about the redundancy/NZ move. I think it is good that you are mindful about being isolated over there. One of my friends moved to Melbourne three years ago with her Aussie boyfriend who she had met in London. It has worked out fine, but she did find it hard to begin with. The nub of it was only having her OH's mates' wives and girlfriends for female support rather than people she had known for years and years. As long as you know this is likely to be problematic upfront, then it is easier to deal with I would imagine.

Deb good news about the BP. I would go to the local paper about the cot if you are feeling brave.

Hard going afternoon here. P was just soooo moaney. No sure why, possibly tired, bored, or maybe something else . Thankfully DH got home early tonight so I abandoned P to him in order to get some head space. P in bed now and all is quiet. Phew.

bitofadramaqueen · 14/08/2009 20:18

We're off to a wedding tomorrow ktpie so its not all bad. Not taking S, and he'll be at the inlaws overnight too! Not too sure how I feel about that yet!

How interesting that an icandy fan should just happen upon our wee thread

PP exciting about NZ, but a bit daunting!

That's great about stopping BF whinegums. S doesn't take too much cows milk either but seems none the worse for it. He doesn't have a bedtime drink at all now, which makes bedtime a bit shorter

PP yeah, I wasn't overly impressed with HP in comparison to previous ones. Lets hope the final ones are much better.

DebInAustria · 14/08/2009 20:31

I'm p'd off about the cot, I've asked an English friend who has lived here for ages and she was surprised that they would even replace the side as it was past guarantee. Consumers have very little rights here and I don't think the local paper would be interested either. I e-mailed the manufacturer and have heard nothing!

BDQ - I'm sure you were in your pyjamas very late in the morning the other day - now that's relaxing!

Ali - you must have been so pleased to see J after your hard afternoon.

Is Jeffers our first troll?

Abdn - Ethan is still as keen too, how's P doing Ali? When I sit down he's there pulling up my T shirt, but I am resisting and so we're back down to morning and evening.

PP - sounds good re work and NZ

vivaGlasvegas · 14/08/2009 21:06

just marking my place.

well done on the BF whinegums I'll be interested to see if it makes a difference to his sleeping overnight [fingers crossed]

Deb glad nigel's BP was OK

double buggies my friend with twins preferred a side by side as with one of those ones where they are behind each other they pulled each others hair!

everyone else, hello!
