bitofadramaqueen · 02/09/2009 07:55

Allnew I only did one hour - the imressive amount is the work I should have done by now and haven't

pureeandpearls · 02/09/2009 08:53

BDQ- you did some and that's the main thing.

Re: names. I had Elinor, but it has become popular and two friends have named their daughters Eleanor. S not keen on Ellie but I was going to call her Noor (we have a friend with a Nell/ie) Evelyn I love and has always been on my list- S is beginning to come round on that one.

Abdn- if you go there can I come too?

Sponge- hope you had a restful night.

Essie- hope the knee not too swollen this morning.

Essie3 · 02/09/2009 09:56

Benedict for a boy! Or Peter or Sebastian. Also v. keen on Tristan, and Iestyn was nearly Trystan (same name). Evelyn is lovely too.

Well, drama last night - went to run my bath but saw a MAHOOOOOOSIVE spider sitting outside the bathroom door. I'm totally arachnophobic. I decided the best thing would be to Dyson it up, so I fetched the Dyson, all the while praying the blighter wouldn't move (because if I couldn't see it I'd have to...well, move house), which it didn't, and with a massive deep breath (which admittedly came out as a wail the whole time I was sucking it up ) I got it! Sat there shaking and crying, and then downed a big sherry. (Pedro Ximenez, in my defence.) So no bath after that.

This morning, my leg is fine, but I can't straighten my arm, which is odd because I didn't think I'd hurt it. It's not severe though.

Allnew agree if I load the washing machine then that's a major achievement! I'm supposed to be studying in the evenings too, but I just can't be bothered am too tired and watch telly instead. So BDQ, any studying in the evening is impressive! (My other excuse - Iestyn is going through another phase of refusing to settle quickly, which I find really draining. Or maybe I'm just a wuss.)

Abdn your dream holiday venue looks lovely! I don't feel like I've had a proper holiday this year. Probably because I haven't! (Being patronised for 3 days with the inlaws isn't a holiday for me!)

PiggyPenguin · 02/09/2009 10:18

I really like Benedict for a boy, or Jasper. Dh's offering is Peregrine although he obviously would not have had any of the above!

Sponge that sounds awful you poor thing, I would have been a complete wreck. You must have been terrified seeing it come towards you. I bet the 'labour ward' comment took a couple of years off your dh's life too.

Essie hope you are feeling better. At least you weren't wearing a skirt.

I am trying to ring a next order through (keep forgetting to put my account number somewhere safe) and everytime they answer the phone Jamie comes and screams in my ear so I have to apologise and hang up as I can't hear a thing. Has happened twice so far, and is very embarrassing!

spongebrainmaternitypants · 02/09/2009 11:01

Thank you for all the hugs - all that virtual comfort helped me have a very good night's sleep . I was so exhausted by the time I got to bed I was asleep almost as my head hit the pillow. Thankfully I've also been prescribed a new drug for my indigestion so no 3am wake up call for me either.

Feeling ok this morning. Taken the day off work and Matt is working from home today to keep an eye on me. Unfortunately, leaping out of the car yesterday and all the kneeling and standing I did trying to check the cars, etc, have seriously aggravated my SPD . Have just booked a physio appt for next week as the MW at the RBH was quite concerned by how bad it was .

puree, how is your SPD btw?

Deb, bet Tristan is going to look fab in his glasses - my dh has worn them since he was about 10, they are just totally part of who he is now. Although recently he's started to wear contacts alot which has taken a bit of getting used to!

Have a fab holiday.

Essie, did you put your arm down to break your fall? You would have automatically tensed your muscles which is probably why you're feeling sore. My right arm is v painful today - can't remember hurting it at all, but think it's from tension again.

AH, Fraser is kind of on our short list but dh thinks it's 'too Scottish'! To be fair, we don't have any Scottish connections whatsoever, but does that matter?

Btw, have you seen this thread: why you should live in Scotland?

Deb, you need to read it!

On names, I also love Peter but it's my dad's name and we used it for Alex's middle name. I also love Jonathan but not keen on John - ktpie, is your DS a Jonathan or a John? Benedict would be shortened to Ben, which, with our surname sounds dangerously like a porn star ! Daniel is my most favourite name in the whole world, but would be awful with our surname which I'm gutted about .

sybil, yes, dh did look a little fraught when he arrived in DAU . I had to laugh at the phone thing - Alex does exactly the same thing and it drives me mad! Either that, or he'll try and snatch the phone and then scream and cry if I don't give it to him!

Essie3 · 02/09/2009 11:13

LOL, had to double check Sponge's surname, but I can confirm that if you even consider Ben or Dan, I will call social!
Rory (and various Gaelic spellings) were out for us because Iestyn has DH's surname and he would have been a little lion. Peter isn't an option either because it's basically a tongue twister. (Surname Petts...)

I think the arm thing must be to do with breaking my fall with it. It's ok though.

Iestyn's naughty with phones too - he tries to take it and talk down it - 'hiya' really loudly - and screams when he doesn't get his own way.

PiggyPenguin · 02/09/2009 11:38

See, I'm not on facebook so I have no idea what your surname is Sponge, but now I have an overwhelming desire to know! I can't think of anything that would turn innocuous names like Ben and Dan into porn stars! Unless you are a Bigg maybe

What about Devlin? (maybe sounds a bit too much like Devil, in which case would perhaps have been perfect for Jamie...)

pureeandpearls · 02/09/2009 11:39

NIce to know someone else has surname issues Sponge- what with your porn star son and my phallic-named child we could be banned from MN!!!

BTW that's a no to Peregrine Sybil(not that I don't think it's a great name.) And DH thinks that Benedict will just get called Dick at school. Did you find it harder naming the second than the first?

Cecily equally phone obsessed- she's learned how to press the buttons on the base so can now page all the house phones. What she does first though is hide the ones she can reach. Then you have to find the phone in order to be able to shut them up. Far cuter and less noisy is the way she carries the parent unit of the baby monitor between her head and shoulder like it's a phone.

abdnhiker · 02/09/2009 12:04

It's so much harder (IMO) to name a second child than a first!!!!

AliPalli · 02/09/2009 12:55

Enjoying all the name chat, especially the porn star worries. I like Benedict although not the sort of name DH would ever permit. Wouldn't it just get shortened to Ben though rather than Dick? Puree I really like Evelyn too. My only reservation would be that it would be shortened to Eve/Evie which are lovely, but quite popular in their own right at the moment. That might not be a concern to you though. Sponge I am still disappointed that BabyBill isn't going to be a William.

I am sure that naming DC2 is harder. You have all the constraints that you had with #1 like surname and personal taste; plus you have lost two+ of your favourite names used on DC1, and you need to think about how the new name sounds with DC1's name. In addition you will know more friends' children who have since been born and nabbed other options.

ktpie · 02/09/2009 13:20

Sponge - my Jonathan is a Jonathan at the moment, although I am sure it will get shortened when he gets older. I have a difficult surname, sounds fairly daft at the best of times (blaming DH). My friends sister called her son Parker, now that is definitely not an option for me (try it with my surname).
Sponge and Puree - I'm probably going to bury my head in the sand and not even think about names until a nameless baby is imminent or here.

Sponge - glad you managed to sleep OK. The SPD is all you need, hope it improves with rest.

Essie - Sympathies on the spider, think I mentioned a few weeks ago we had a massive one loose in our living room. This morning while we were having breakfast DH suddenly leapt up from his seat and scooped something up from the floor and rushed out of the back door, apparently it was a huge spider and he didn't want me to see it because it was so massive. He's my hero.

J is obesessed with phones too, he thinks that anything he can pick up has the potential to be a phone and he tries it out (can kind of see where he is coming from when you think about the range of mobiles/house phones about). If he gets the house phone he loves the beeping buttons and won't give it back.

pureeandpearls · 02/09/2009 14:10

Ali- I think DH meant that from a teasing point of view, the name Benedict is a gift.... I also worried about the Eve/Evie thing but were thinking of Vivi (my cunning back door to the name Genevieve- get DH used to the nickname first!!)

Sponge- have physio referral for SPD- the joys of the spider belt!!! It's not yet painful but hurting every day, if that makes sense.

I have acquired another baby for the day (friends are going away overnight for their anniversary) so will see you all later!!!

pureeandpearls · 02/09/2009 14:15

check this out

spongebrainmaternitypants · 02/09/2009 14:19

We've given Alex an old mobile phone which he keeps on the coffee table and often picks up and wanders round with, chatting on it. Usually it's upside down or the wrong way round which makes it even cuter!

sybil, remember the Crimewatch presenter Jill that was murdered 10 years ago - we share the same surname!

pmsl at Parker with your surname ktpie! That would be v cruel .

puree, what about Elizabeth or Harriet?

I agree naming a 2nd is so much harder. Ali, I'm sorry to disappoint you about William - problem is one of our NCT babies is called William, and I have another friend who's son is William, plus it's a bit regal for me - and you all know my opinions on the royal family!

ktpie, don't think I will make a decision imminently, but Bill is due next month!

Totally with all the arachnophobes - if I know there is a spider in my bedroom and it isn't caught then I have to sleep in the spare room .

OP posts:
pleasechange · 02/09/2009 14:22

haha puree, is that one you made earlier?

Essie3 · 02/09/2009 16:18

Crikey, your baby is due next month?! Where did that time go?

bitofadramaqueen · 02/09/2009 18:19

Ahem, very big fearty here - can someone give me advance warning on fb next time there is mention of 8 legged beasties?

I can't believe you're due next month Sponge!!! Are you having a fast track pregnancy

I think I quite like George for a boy's name. I always thought it was a bit fuddy duddy but it works. I really liked Caspar when I was pg but DH was no way! Oh, dinner ready gotta go!

bitofadramaqueen · 02/09/2009 18:58

I meant to say that I have a friend with a baby George and that works well!

spongebrainmaternitypants · 02/09/2009 19:36

Lol at fast track pg! I know, I can't believe I'm due next month either - although it is right at the end of October so may still be Novemeber, you never know!

I like George too, it's sort of slipped on and off my list as dh is not overly keen - but then I do have to remind myself it is my choice this time!

Hmm, what's a 'fearty'?

OP posts:
vivaGlasvegas · 02/09/2009 19:36

George is cool, we have it on a short list for any future DS.

vivaGlasvegas · 02/09/2009 20:00

BDQ8 had also never heard of Boden. have just ordered my mac and hat (I'm taking your word on these being Glasgow proof puree)with whinegums* 15% off code though, thanks!

bitofadramaqueen · 02/09/2009 20:01

Fearty is Lundy of scaredy cat. Only really works in a very Scottish accent!

I'm off to do some studying in a mo. Am feeling a bit cross that I've not sold any stuff I put on gumtree this weekend. I don't think I've got the energy for eBay and was hopeful of an easy local sale. Anyone got any pregnant chums looking to buy a maxi-cosi easybase. 18 totsbots bamboozles nappies, and some bugaboo bee car seat adaptors [hopeful]. Actually I might try the for sale boards on here. Is pay pal quite easy and safe? I've only ever paid for things not been paid for them. Hmmm. Anyway, must go study!

bitofadramaqueen · 02/09/2009 20:03

Oops, I don't know where my iPod got Lundy from. It should say kind of. Or something.

pleasechange · 02/09/2009 20:04

viva I've ordered a mac as well - fingers crossed it's nice, been raining here every day for ages!

sponge - can't believe only a month to go . Sounds like you're having an awful time though with the spd, so I'm sure you can't wait to get on with it so to speak. Are you excited? Is it very different anticipating the 2nd birth compared to the 1st? Can't remember how your birth was with Alex so I guess it partly depends on that as to how you feel about it

pleasechange · 02/09/2009 20:05

x-posted bdq. Paypal is mostly fine - I had one bad experience (but it hasn't put me off selling things on ebay as I guess these incidents are rare)
