Allnew and Viva, thanks, fingers crossed B is equally as laid back as C when it comes to nursery.

Can I just say that Viva was actually wearing matching shoes herself at our recent meet up, she doesn't mean that she was so unco-ordinated that she wasn't wearing a pair! BDQ and I have the same taste in Converse....

Try LNCA for Boden, I think I used it when I bought B some stuff - 15% off, free delivery and returns, and a free bag if you spend £150 or more. Unfortunately the spend £30 get £10 off isn't working now.

AliPalli · 01/09/2009 17:07

Ooh the MN meet up matching shoes thing is a bit spooky.

Ktpie glad the MMR was ok.

The Boden chat the other day got me looking too. I quite like some double layer henleys that are in the sale. That pretty much sums up my style really.

Viva LOL at the Roland Rat glasses.

abdnhiker · 01/09/2009 17:26

I love the Boden knitted dresses, I got one last year for F's christening and it's so comfortable.

The nicest-dressed mum at the school gate yesterday turned out to be the doctor we saw at the surgery today. Which was all fine, she thinks my chest pain is just acid reflux and confirmed fraser's testicles are descended enough but I didn't get up the nerve to ask her about my pelvic floor and running.

ktpie · 01/09/2009 19:23

Wow you all had the same shoes on! Or am I misunderstanding?

Abdn - I would find it a tad embarassing if my doctor was another mum at school!

poppy34 · 01/09/2009 19:41

Blimey you lot can chat-knackered today as back at work. Alipalli- Biden Henley are
nice but come up small so order larger than you think. Your nct story reminds me of the women in jeans beige top, cashmere wrap to match her bugaboo and baby.

Essie your husband gormless re food.

Purée names are nice but my list for Edie was much altered - she was nearly Paris as you know.

Right Better go as non sleeping baby trying to balance against chair and it's a stone floor . Still there is hope she
may not be a crawling flower girl.

Hi to all others

poppy34 · 01/09/2009 19:42

And ktpie glad mmr ok went ok- we are booked for Thursday. How many jabs is it?

bitofadramaqueen · 01/09/2009 19:45

There's a new spend £30 get £10 off at Boden XNHT - I've just used it to buy some Christmas presents. It gives you free delivery too. For a mac you might be better off with a 15% code. Did you have a look in the saving money/promo thread viva?

Am I the only person who never heard of Boden until they joined MN . Now I can't stay away from the stuff. I do really like the mini boden clothes though and have luckily always found good discount codes.

at the idea of MN matching shoes. 'Tis true though, Whinegums has excellent taste in converse!

Allnew yes practicality did take over. I am still lusting after the biker jacket but I need something for those days (like a few weeks ago) if we take S to the zoo or for a walk I've got something practical (and warm if need be) that will keep me dry. I can't manage umbrella plus pram and sadly there isn't a hat that exists that looks good on me! I'm still toying with the idea of casually leaving the Boden catalogue open under DH's nose in the run up to Christmas though .

Whinegums S did 3 days settling in at nursery. I don't think more would have made a difference. He really enjoys it when he's there, but he does scream his head off still when we drop him off, and that's nearly 6 months he's been going. OMG I can't believe I've been back at work for 6 months

I'm a big fan of matching undies, but have to say they have gone out of the window since having S. I'm very slowly trying to build up a collections of bras again as none of my pre-pg ones fit (I'm still numerous cup sizes bigger) and bravissimo is the only place I trust for bras so it's an expensive job!

spongebrainmaternitypants · 01/09/2009 20:00

Hi guys, can't catch up with all your posts - too many and my brain is too fried .

Had a hell of a day - witnessed an horrendous car accident right in front of me: driving along country A road, car came speeding out of a T junction, car coming towards me broadsided this car, somersaulted into the air, flipped over, and landed on its roof on top of the car in front of me .

Absolutely terrifying.

I had to call the emergency services and talk them through all the injured - then the fire brigade, ambulanecs, police and air ambulance turned up. I went into shock and had to be taken into hospital for a check up, and when dh arrived they told him I'd been transferred to the labour ward .

Home now and trying to rest, but feeling stiff and sore.

Apologies for the self-absorbed post. Just had to write it all down .

Hope you're all well x

Poppy - it was 2 jabs, a booster and the MMR.

BDQ - I'm the same with hats, plus there is the danger of them blowing off!

Waiting for Mr Tescos to bring my shopping. Very exciting evening.

spongebrainmaternitypants · 01/09/2009 20:02

@ ktpie, for x-posting again

Gosh Sponge that's awful. What a terrifying thing to happen. I would have been in pieces so you did brilliantly to phone up and speak to them coherently. I would have been a gabbling mess.

spongebrainmaternitypants · 01/09/2009 20:23

I think I was a gabbling mess tbh , but the bloke on the phone was great and kept me talking and asked me loads of questions to try and keep me busy. I think that was why I fell apart when all the emergency services arrived, cos no one was relying on me then .

I have to just mention how proud I was of my little boy, who sat quietly with a complete stranger looking after him (one of the women who lived nearby took care of him) for a good hour while all this was going on and didn't once make a fuss. Bless him.

Essie3 · 01/09/2009 20:38

God, Sponge, that's horrific. I'm a big fan of talking things through with people - when I had a lot of stressful pastoral care to do in my last job, I would regularly phone the Samaritans. But thinking about it, that's because it was confidential stuff (hand holding someone having an abortion - and the first years are so vulnerable...it messes with your head). Anyway, talk it through with people, otherwise it might just go round and round IYKWIM. And well done Alex too. You're not in labour, though? Is everything ok with the baby?

Can I whinge about my achiness? I'm really sore after my fall now. Ali maybe Sandra Bullock could pull it off but I really don't think I can. But I am thinking about Johnny Depp a lot. Mum was really nice and I went round for tea but she was secretly really worried - and now so am I! - what if I'd broken my wrist?

Chocolate now. And thrilled that everyone likes the name that I chose for someone else's baby.

spongebrainmaternitypants · 01/09/2009 20:43

Thank you Essie, yes doing lots of talking - keep remembering random things, like the fact that there were playing cards all over the road, and that the paramedic joked that they should have put me in the air ambulance cos they'd never had a birth in there!

It didn't help that I watched Independence Day yesterday and the car flying through the air looked exactly like the ones that got flung around on the film. I really thought it was going to hit us and I was so scared I didn't know what to do .

No, didn't go into labour - I was on the DAU but unfortunately they told dh that I was on the labour ward so he expected the worst . He said he'd never moved so fast!

Not surprised you're sore from your fall - long gone are the days when we were kids and could fall and jump up without noticing it! Not wanting to be the bearer of bad news, but you will probably feel more stiff tomorrow so take it easy.

pureeandpearls · 01/09/2009 21:17

Sponge- I'm so glad you are OK. YOu poor thing, it must have been terrifying for all of you (((hugs)))

Essie- sounds painful, as does DH. I can only sympathise. I think it's the law thing. DH drenched C today when he didn't put the lid on her sippy cup correctly!

Thanks for all the name suggestions: Genevieve and Verity have made the shortlist Ktpie- last time we had the names before we conceived. We like to be organised. This is driving me crackers.

bitofadramaqueen · 01/09/2009 21:21

Sponge, you experience today sounds horrific. I hope you manage to get a decent nights sleep. How was the driver?

Essie, I missed you comedy (but painful) fall earlier. Have you tried a nice soak in the bath to soothe your aches and pains?

Am very eased with myself for doing an hours studying. Now only 59 hours revision, one assignment and one dissertation behind schedule this year

spongebrainmaternitypants · 01/09/2009 21:35

puree, thank you for the hugs . You are one scarily organised woman re: names! Dh and I are really struggling with this one - I have one name I'm obsessed with but dh hates it! .

FWIW, I think Genevieve and Eleanor are gorgeous.

BDQ, the woman in the car that flipped was 'seriously injured' according to the news report here.

Your studying is still awe-inspiring - I'm still struggling to manage 10 mins knitting in the evening, let alone writing dissertations!

OP posts:
AliPalli · 01/09/2009 22:06

Sponge lots of hugs for you. Have a good sleep tonight, and I hope you feel better in the morning. Just told DH what happened including your poor DH thinking you were in labour. We are both feeling very sorry for Sponge Household this evening.

BDQ well done on the studying. I am impressed that you manage to do any at all knowing what I am like.

Essie3 · 01/09/2009 22:17

Sponge seriously, don't push yourself - don't do anything unless it takes all your mind and makes you forget everything.

Great news on Verity. I also like Eleanor. (Remember that names which are too English (!!) are out for me so no Verity as there isn't even a v in Welsh! But I could consider Elinor for a girl for me.) I know a girl who spells it Alianore (or rather, her parents did - it's the form used by E of Aquitaine, a v. fine woman, showing the origin of the name). She calls herself Nell too, which I love.

BDQ I'm going to have a bath right now and then bed - I hope you're wrong, Sponge.

DebInAustria · 01/09/2009 22:46

Sponge - sending you big hugs -0 what an awful thing to witness, and bless Alex for being so good. Make sure you rest now. It's got me quite teary just telling Nigel about it, I can't begin to imagine what it was like irl.

Names - I love Eleanor, always wanted it but it wasn't to be!!

Thanks for all the lovely comments about Tristan. He chose some great glasses today, once we'd negotiated between the free ones and designers - he's only 7 but picked out every single pair of expensive glasses. He's going to have very expensive tastes.Pick them up next week.

E-mail today to say that we have a viewing whilst we're away so I am rather busy!!!Off tomorrow - car half packed and very excited - weather forecast isn't so exciting

bitofadramaqueen · 01/09/2009 22:49

Have a great holiday deb!

abdnhiker · 02/09/2009 07:11

Sponge I hope you're feeling better today, what a horrible shock. The car in front of us had an accident once a few years back (rolled off the road, silly SUVs) and we were really shaken - but no one was hurt in that case so I can't imagine how much more upsetting this must have been.

Deb, enjoy your vacation and good luck on the viewing...

Essie Did your DH really not heat up the sauce? I can totally see not adding pasta but to forget to warm it up is amazing. You and Rolf make me feel so much better about my own lovely scatterbrained DH.

Actually we were talking about this same topic last night as we are booking our tickets to Toronto for our annual 'holiday'. DH was saying how relaxing it is and I got very grumpy as it's not relaxing for me at all - I spend so much time worrying about keeping the boys rested and fed etc. that I don't get a real break. DH said he could try to take on that responsibility but it wouldn't work - the first time he messed it up I'd end up stepping in and taking over. What we really need is for me to go away for a week and leave the three of them to sort themselves out - but that's unlikely to happen in the near future.

What I'd really really like for a holiday is just a long weekend here. It's heavenly and so well set up for kids that I wouldn't have to think and stress while we were there. There's a lovely pool, an adult-only pool, a family restaurant, easy to get to, tons to do... But it's definitely not cheap. Still, perhaps this can be my motivation to get more contract work - to pay for the vacations! We've not actually had one in

abdnhiker · 02/09/2009 07:20

over two years... (oops - hit the post button accidentaly).

puree I love Eleanor too, if we'd had a girl she would have been Audrey (for DS1) or Elspeth (DS2) with middle names Helen or Evelyn respectively. I love the more classic names for girls - they sound like "do anything" names so they can be princesses, lawyers, athletes etc. I don't actually like my real-life name, but that's just because it feels too boring.

essie We decided on Scottish names for our boys because they have a Norwegian last name and we wanted them to have a strong sense of identity where they live, but otherwise I love the Welsh names. You have/had a lovely selection to choose from!!! We also needed names that would be familiar in canada in case we ever move back - hence no Gaelic spellings.

pleasechange · 02/09/2009 07:40

sponge that sounds horrific, must have been a real shock for you to see that. Hope you're not still feeling shaky, that is the sort of thing that plays over in your head. Like essie said, probably best to talk it over a lot rather than having it going round in your own head iyswim

bdq - wow, that is a lot of work, congratulations. Makes me feel to lazy - I feel like I've done well in the evenings if I get some laundry and a bit of ironing done

debs - have a great holiday

abdeen - that places looks great!

pleasechange · 02/09/2009 07:40

excuse the spelling mistakes - v early!
