Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Right, me me me!

My incredible sleeping baby has turned into the incredible non-sleeping baby at the same time as his older brother has decided to wake up at 4 blinking am. I'm so tired!

Anyway, I decided to take DS2 to the baby clinic this morning for the first time
DS2 was on the floor while I changed his clothes and DS1 ran in excitedly to show me a photograph on his camera.

It then dropped on DS2's head. Cue lots of crying from DS2, guilty DS1 and even guiltier mummy.

Of course, it would be the day that I go to baby clinic, so off we went with DS2's black eye and me worrying about being reported to Social Services or something.

Anyway, we're back. DS2 is on the 50th centile still so same as he was at birth.

Hello to everyone. Hope everyone is well and happy in the rain!

pulapula · 20/08/2009 13:13

reggiee- I think 4 months is a very big growth spurt, and a reason some still start solids at 4 months rather than waiting as their babies start waking in the night again after sleeping through.

llareggub · 20/08/2009 13:15

Oh yes, definitely a big growth spurt.

FiKelly · 20/08/2009 14:07

just wrote a long catch up name check and hit the wrong button and it's gone

so here goes again on my phone..

febes great about your wallet.. and before you'd cancelled anything too.

jael ds didn't like dummies and found his hands.. then moved onto the cuffs of his long sleeves (winter time) when summer appeared he then moved onto his cot bed size blanket.. which has now become his blankie. like belgian though he only gets outside when not well or if we're doing a long journey in the car.. otherwise it stays at home. my mum said I had one too and weaned me off it by cutting it in half every time it went in the machine for a wash.. and told me it had shrunk in the wash!

belgian how's the packing going? so much to do in so little time..

momino glad dd's are over the worst of cp now. just hope h doesn't get it now.

right going to post this and head off to catch up up on next page

FiKelly · 20/08/2009 14:29

llareggub oh no, just typical black eye had to happen on clinic day! hope it goes quick.
reggie sounds a good night out.. and nothing much happening here either now all the birthday parties are almost over.

I seem to be quite lucky with g's sleeping on the whole.. sleeping through almost always from 10.30pm till 6 and naps in the day a few times too for 1 to 2hrs at a time.

trying to make any kind of progress with ds's potty training as he's just started to tell me if he's poo'd in his nappy. he has a hissy if I suggest he wears pants.. want his nappy on all the time. So took him to choose some pants yesterday and some sweets.. he won't wear the pants still though.we've emptied the sweets into a clear lidded plastic jar and told him he can choose a sweet every time he does a wee on the potty. trying outright bribery as nothing else has worked so far!

Jennster · 20/08/2009 14:32

Febes Ds is was 2 last month. He still gets it wrong with trouser legs and the like, but if I can get both their clothes out in advance I can flit between the two of them, and spend far less time shouting about getting dressed. Dd1 3 1/2 can put get dressed unsupervised though.

Pula I'm thinking of potty training ds later in the year too. I was thinking with his poor speech it was a little too early, but he does know what potties are for, and with the dressing himself I'll give it a week trial and see how we go. [whispers] has anybody read and used the GF potty training in a week method?

Belgian OMG imagine getting that so wrong! Hope your sil gets it sorted. Hope packing is going well.

Off to Southport Flower Show tomorrow. Can't wait.

FiKelly · 20/08/2009 14:47

jennster my ds would run around naked in his nappy rather than get dressed at all.. he still doesn't dress himself at 3 (with the exception of his shoes/boots.. they get put on no prob!) and we have the added complication in that he has to choose what he wears which takes ages! not sure what we're going to do about this either!

fi oddly enough your double post has got 2 other posts inbetween. wonder how that happened. I hope your dad is getting better soon.

potty training With ds it worked within 3 days. He was clearly ready. With dd1 I tried a few times, but always gave up after a day or 3 as she clearly wasn't ready. Then just as she turned 3 it suddenly seemed to click and she also did it within a couple of days. So I think that it will only work if your lo is really ready and if it doesn't work within a few days, then it's probably better to leave it a couple of monts and try again later.

Both dcs get themselves dressed nowadays. Dd1 picks some odd combinations, but I've learnt to live with that. That way at least I don't have to do it for her. It's only since C's been born that she's doing it though, before she could, but wouldn't.

I can hear my SIL getting angrier and angrier with the BMIbaby people on the phone. They seem to have acknowledged it's their mistake, but wont give her new tickets or something.

Jael · 20/08/2009 16:20

DS is already having 6 6oz feeds in 24 hours right, and has been doing for several weeks, but for the last week, he's wanted a feed 2 hourly through the day, now that can't be right, cause at this rate, he's going to be having like 10+ 6oz feeds a day. The box of formula he's on is already hungry baby formula, it says he shouldn't go up to 7oz feeds till he's 6months+, last week when I mentioned weaning to the HV, she kinda like tutted at me and said it's far too early, but I don't really know what to do.

FiKelly · 20/08/2009 16:49

well ds and dd have been asleep for just over an hour.. so what have i been doing? relaxing? no.. made our dinner & tidied the kitchen up.. just finished cleaning our ensuite.. now not sure if i'll have time to clean our bathroom too? just as i start one of them is bound to wake up?

FiKelly · 20/08/2009 17:23

belgian I'm on my phone and didn't even realise about the double posts till you mentioned them! my phone did go wonky this afternoon so that's prob what caused it? sorry folks.

ds has just turned 3 and he is the last of his group still in nappies and not remotely bothered about it. he said today he was scared of the potty so not sure what to do.. he doesn't know why and i don't want to push him.

jael my friends dd took massive feeds way beyond her weeks 2x bottles per feed.. she didn't sleep much if any during the day but she then slept 12hrs at night. go with your gut imo.

Belgianchocolates · 20/08/2009 18:50

jael I second fi with trying a bigger feed. The back of the tin is only a guideline anyway. Some babies eat more, some less. I'd try upping his formula first before starting to wean as it's still a little early for that.

SIL's flights got sorted in the end. It really showed us how wrong it can be for call centres to be located in India. They couldn't make the decision to just swap over the flight without incurring the extra cost of £500 which is the price difference between last week and this week. Anyway. DH ended up talking to them too and seems like the call centre staff must have talked to the office in England in the end, because all of a sudden they just said that it was done and the flights changed at no extra charge.

After talking about C not sleeping well during the day she ended up sleeping over 2h this afternoon, mainly on my lap. I was scared to move her as she's not good at being moved so I sort of wrapped the sling around her so I could get up and do something without waking her. It worked . It was so funny when I told DH that I was scared to move (meaning of course to get up and wake C). He answered that it would be better for me and the children once the move was over. For a second I was a bit confused, but then it suddenly clicked that he was talking about moving house, lol.

Tummum · 20/08/2009 19:13

Belgian so glad it worked out for your SIL. I have to admit, I am not a fan of Indian Call centres. It's a shame you are not going to the show as we could have caught up :-)

Jael I agree about offering bigger feeds. Hope it helps

Looby I love T25s. They are massive inside, fun to drive and reliable. We had a high top and sold it for more than we bought it for as they hold their value well. We had a drive away awning too which was helpful. We put the DDs asleep (one across the front seats with the table in between in a pop up cot, one in the roof), shut the door then enjoyed the evening in the tent / outside. You can get curtains on ebay quite cheaply (about £80). I am excited on your behalf !

Llare at the black eye... what a morning !

FiK I second Belgian's advice. I started waaaay too early P training DD1 and it was a nightmare. I left it much later for DD2 (she has just turned 3) and she was ready.

FiKelly · 20/08/2009 19:20

belgian what a relief for your sil and lucky she discovered the mistake before she arrived at the airport!

in the end i did get time to clean the other bathroom.. now both are asleep again. well dd is and ds is in bed.. so fingers crossed the nap this afternoon doesn't affect his sleeping now.

dad still in hospital.. he's had plurisy they are assessing him for mobility equipment/aids etc to help him when he comes home.. prob tue next week.

FiKelly · 20/08/2009 19:41

ds knows when he's done a wee and poo.. i think he's just resistant to change? even the lure of sweets wouldn't tempt him to sit on his potty today. he's only just turned 3 so will just have to wait. was hoping he'd be potty trained for the start of pre school in sept i'm sure he won't be the only one left in nappies..

Belgianchocolates · 20/08/2009 20:01

fi How about letting him run around without nappy or pants. My ds liked that while potty training. I could also spot when he needed a wee as he had a drop dangling from his willy! But as I said before, if it doesn't work within a few days, then try again in a few months. When they're ready they don't actually need much training. It just sort of comes naturally.

A moment now. DH's friend has come to collect our chickens + eglu. He's having them on loan while we're in the rented house. I'll miss them . IT makes the move seem so real now. Bye Daisy and Lazy.

llareggub · 20/08/2009 20:05

I second Belgian's point about leaving it until they don't need training. I tried every now and again with DS, but with no luck. Then one day he just announced eh needed a wee and pulled down his nappy and used the potty. Three days later he decided he didn't want nappies at night either.

His biggest problem was forgetting to go when engrossed in playing. We made it quite inconvenient for him by making when wetting himself by stopping the play, changing clothes etc. He hasn't had an accident for ages, although I admit that pooing in the potty took a little time and effort.

pulapula · 20/08/2009 20:22

Jael- i know BM is different to formula, but my DS2 is having 7oz bottles of EBM at bedtime (and he downed one at lunchtime too today). So there is obviously room in his tummy for the volume. In between these he had 5oz of EBM too.

FiKelly · 20/08/2009 20:26

belgian.. i'm sure daisy and lazy will miss you too.

i've tried to get ds to run around without a nappy.. thought if he got the feel of not having a nappy on he'd not want them back on. so far he's resistant to not having one on.. he has a paddy shortly after it comes off demanding to have a nappy back on..

Belgianchocolates · 20/08/2009 20:27

My ds is 7 and will still sometimes wet himself when engrossed in play/watching telly. Somehow he doesn't seem to mind. He likes the warm feeling apparently

Jael · 20/08/2009 20:39

So do you think I should just put him up to 7oz feeds, and not introduce rusk/baby rice which is what DP wants to do lol

pulapula · 20/08/2009 20:49

Hi Jael- i would increase feeds first and see if that satisfies him. I can't remember how old your DS is, but i think the advice is to wait til 6 months before introducing baby rice etc, but if you have to do it sooner, then its best to wait til after 17 weeks as their digestive system isn't really ready before that.

llareggub · 20/08/2009 20:53

Jael, I wouldn't recommend introducing baby rice until 6 months. It doesn't have more calories than milk, so won't help. 4 months is classic growth spurt time, my DS won't stop feeding either.

SpangleMaker · 20/08/2009 21:01

jael could be a growth spurt? I don't know how much H has but I know some days he's not very hungry and others he's a little guzzler!

Potty training... not looking forward to that one! Was it Jennster who mentioned GF? Obv not read it myself yet but my friend told me the doing it in a week business is a bit of a swizz, apparently she recommends spending months beforehand making them sit on a potty when you go to the loo (clothes on) then clothes off, etc etc.

Took H for his hip ultrasound today (I had a dislocated hip as a baby so they check him). Was a bit of a faff as it wasn't at orthopaedic outpatients where I thought it was, it was at the opposite end of the hospital estate; they also forgot to tell us the ultrasound dept is part of the xray dept, and so the upshot was we were very late. Then they let a student sonographer, a student doctor and finally a consultant scan H's hips, by which time he was losing patience big time. What a palava (sp?). Anyway, his hips are basically ok but one is developing faster than the other, so he has to go back in 6 months to check it's evened out.
