Sorry Schulte - just had to stick my oar in !

frekkles · 20/08/2009 07:04

hello ladies. how's it going?

i'm totally knackered, my baby is again feeding 3 or 4 times a night and not wanting to settle inbetween. and not napping. and i also have insomnia. feel like shit

met my nct group yesterday and all their babies are sleeping well. please tell me that i'm not the only one here?

AuldAlliance · 20/08/2009 07:51

Frekkles,
Ales has been waking 3 times in the night lately. Am feeling shit too.

Have been hoping it's just the heat, making him sleep badly and also causing excess thirst.
But I also find that he is now not looking very comfy in the Amby any more. His head is lower than his feet, and I can't rig it so he's sloping the other way to help stop him regurgitating so much. He wants to roll over and can't, and I don't want to find him with his face down in the mattress one morning.

Am going to buy a cot today (DH gave our old one to a colleague . I had understood it was a loan, and put in all our sheets, etc.). 4 months' use out of the Amby, a bit pricy!!

AuldAlliance · 20/08/2009 08:44

Alex. blardy one-handed typing

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 20/08/2009 09:02

Constant waking here too! am shattered.

Those of you with more than one, come on over here

gingersarah · 20/08/2009 09:50

Morning, all

Frekkles - you are not the only one. Everyone has ups and downs and at the moment my NCT group have all hit a period of plainsailing, apparently, except me. Then yesterday afternoon I had coffee with a group of other mothers whose babies are all a bit older and they said "oh yes, the 3/4 months rocky patch, we feel your pain".

Auld - GRRRRR about the cot!
Can you sell the amby on?

And about the pram and the sling - I have two lovely baby carriers and stupidly had neither with me. Both were given to me by people who really know what they are doing and know me and V well so I didn't have to go through any of the trial and error business.
I am totally loving life with the Eden velveteen cross over wrap thing. Wearing V in that is the most comfortable thing in the world and we had a lovely stomp around the common like that, singing like nutters I'm afraid. V is being clingy suddenly - waking at night, not hungry or thinking it is playtime, just wanting to be held - being weird when held by strange people - looking for a lot of reassurance in general. So I am hoping that lots of being carried will soothe her and make her feel secure.

Here's hoping for a better day for everyone.

Guimauve · 20/08/2009 10:27

Howdy all - sitting in the garden, cup of fennel tea and a pocketful of mini Daims from Ikea Hugo likes to lie and gaze at the apple trees. Plus, it is a little cooler today than yesterday, with a lovely breeze. He gets so hot and sweaty sometimes, that I don't mind him sitting out here in the wind getting a little chilly!

Went for weigh-in yesterday. A bit ho hum. Last time, he had gained an all time record of around 4oz per week for three weeks, so I really thought we'd be nearly at 11lb by now. But that must have been a fluke as he's back to his standard 2oz/ week, and we are up to 10lb 9oz. So, it's still weight gain, and it's still steady, and his is happy and smiley, which is what matters. Paed appt next Weds. Plus, the HV who weighed him didn't seem too bothered (probably cos I mentioned the paed). She was younger than most of the HVs, and is possibly the first one not to mention top-ups!

Then DH, H and I went and had a lovely lunch. We haven't been out to eat, just us, for so long, so I thought it would be nice. Had hoped to get a seat in the garden t the restaurant but it was absolutley packed, so had to go inside. H got grizzly fairly quickly, but I popped him on the boob and he had a quick feed and dozed off for most of the rest of the meal. I had chicken and mushroom risotto, DH had a big calzone, and for dessert I had pistachio ice cream (om nom nom!!!) and DH had profiteroles filled with semi-freddo. All in all, very yummy, nice to be out, and quite relaxing.

Made greengage jam yesterday.

Re: multiple night-time wakings - yes, but I don't really know how often. As H is in with us, I half-wake, latch him on and doze off again, mostly. I would say at least 4 times a night. He seems to be eating less through the night now - has a quick munch and then dozes off. Is this a Good Thing, do you suppose, in view of weight?

MrsG - glad the banana went down well! What else has he had now?

Auld - I'm pale and squishy - that's about it! Really I just rather like the word

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 20/08/2009 11:47

Blimey. Find myself downloading school admissions forms for DS1. When did my baby get so big?

(And more to the point, why is the deadline so blinking early - end of October for admissions for next September!)

frekkles · 20/08/2009 11:48

oooh misery likes company , isn't it weird i'm glad you're all suffering too? thank you for the empathy. it helps when permanently attached to a squawky baby doesn't it?

AuldAlliance · 20/08/2009 12:18

It sure does, Frekkles.

Have now spent small fortune on cot, mattress, mattress cover & 2 sheets. Ordered 2 more cheapo sheets from La Redoute.
How much do you bet DH's colleague pipes up next week that her daughter is now too big for our cot and she'll just give it back to us...?

Ginger I really hope I can sell the Amby on. They are pretty much unknown in France, but one PG lady who's due in Nov visited our old house, saw mine, loved it and took my number, so hopefully she'll call me. I should have kept their number. Otherwise I'll take a photo, post it up in the waiting room at the maternity ward and cross my fingers. Everyone who saw mine thought it looked great, so here's hoping...

Looked at my baby book this morning and it says (1) that babies roll from their front to their back first and (2) that this happens around 7 months.
Alex has been rolling from his back to his front for a week now. What are your babies doing?

Springy, I do miss you and hope you're OK. If you pop in to look here every now and again, I'm thinking of you and wishing you all the best.

And where has BB gone?

AuldAlliance · 20/08/2009 12:19

Guimauve: greengage jam??? How do you do it?

AuldAlliance · 20/08/2009 12:19

I mean how do you find the time, not what is your recipe...

bebemoo · 20/08/2009 12:49

so we gave meg some (a table spoon) of milky rice cereal last night after having a heated discussion about it...
she was up at 2 but then slept until 9 when i got her up so i could feed her before we checked out...and she seems very happy today... so dh might have won...

mathshoneybunny27 · 20/08/2009 13:13

..or it could just be a coincidence

Who knows? It won't hurt though.

bebemoo · 20/08/2009 13:25

yeah... One never knows really does one.

Guimauve · 20/08/2009 15:00

SO, what do everybody's babies do all day? I worry that H must get dreadfully bored. It's feed/sleep/feed/sleep/feed/sleep/grizzle/feed/sleep/sit-in-garden/feed/sleep/feed/sleep/playmat/boun cy-chair/garden/feed/sleep/DADDY'S HOME/Daddy-cuddle/feed/sleep etc etc etc etc here. V monotonous. Does it matter if they're not seeing many other peeps/ babes at this early age?

Also, male-baby owners, is it normal for their nozzle to be becoming more open, IYSWIM?

Guimauve · 20/08/2009 15:02

Well, obv it is normal for it to become more open at some stage, or they'd have a great deal of trouble in later life, but is it occurring around about now for everyone else?

bebemoo · 20/08/2009 15:07

our day pretty much goes like that too Gui... only insert sit in swing for sit in garden and go for walk for bouncy chair
and the daddy's home is only when Dh is around
I do feel a bit guilty about not getting her out and occupying her with more important things
on monday I read her passages from my book and then showed/taught her how to turn the pages of her soft book... and interesting she was turning the pages of Dh's menu tuesday night when she had never done it before

Guimauve · 20/08/2009 15:07

Auld, I think the key to stuff like jam-making is definitely to only have one LO! Once I have a second DC plus a crawling/toddling/whatever Hugo to deal with, it will be frozen pizza all the way. However, I have got big home-made-food-gift plans for Christmas this year, and the greengage jam is my first product. There's nothing like several unwanted pots of jam to put a smile on a relative's face at Christmas! Stashing away blackberrries, apples and rhubarb from the garden for doing stuff with when I have enough. Plans (which will most likely amount to nothing) for gathering sweet chestnuts in autumn to turn into marrons glaces (please insert accent with your mind). This is probably a little over-ambitious though Sloe gin from couple of years ago to be decanted. May possibly make vin d'orange - have you ever had this and is it nice?

Guimauve · 20/08/2009 15:10

Bebe, I really should take him out for more walks. You go out for a good couple of hours a day don't you?
I did tell him the story of Hugo and the Beanstalk yesterday, which he seemed to enjoy, especially "I'll grind his bones to make my bread!". That made him grin hugely!

There is a little 20 minute baby singing thing on at the library on Mondays. I may think abut going to that.

The main problem, I think, is that the two-hourly or more frequent feeding makes any kind of getting out and about more difficult, and significantly more stressful, as am always feeling like I should be feeding him, not pushing him in the buggy.

bebemoo · 20/08/2009 15:19

yeah i know. I really feel for you. They do say fresh air can increase appetite... (in our house it helps encourage sleep though) Things are tough since Moo's back to 2 hours too. Today I've got nothing done since I've been home. Every time I turn around she wants feeding then falls asleep then I sneak away and she starts squawking and I hold her off for an hour (by actually holding her -not conductive to doing housework) until she's so upset with me that she starts biting my fingers and going after my nose. Then we feed again and she falls asleep... sigh.
No dh and room service to save me tonight...

bebemoo · 20/08/2009 15:22

she starting to wise up abt the computer too.. I'm finding it more and more difficult to type/fb etc. when she's feeding because she goes for it or screams...she gets fussy now when I put it beside me, like she knows i'm not wholly paying attention to her...

Guimauve · 20/08/2009 15:47

Yes, we're getting that too. Far more fussing. Often need both hands to keep feeding going to either support breast in a good position, or to fend off the Naughty Hand!
Of course, it doesn't help that he still only sleeps either in the big bed with me, or in mine or DH's arms....but that's a whole other problem!

bebemoo · 20/08/2009 16:05

hmmm yes I can imagine.

I keep thinking how lovely it'll be when I can just hand her a bit of something to eat or really play with her and she'll know when we're playing. I mean it's great that she laughs at me know when we play, but I know she's only laughing because I'm laughing at myself. It'll be nice when she knows 'why'

Guimauve · 20/08/2009 16:23

Yes, proper play will be brilliant! That is what DH is really looking forward to.
