Thanks Star- it does loads. I'm going to get dh to read your post too. We've been so lucky as he managed to self settle from an early age so now we're a bit lost with all this crying. I think it could be linked to him dropping a bottle feed too and me not really having his milk feeds in the right places yet. We've just given him milk now and that's settled him. When he had five feeds a day they'd roughly be 6am, 10, 2, 6, 10 (dream feed) but now it's four a day it is 6, 11, 5 and then has been 10 (dream feed), I think he needs a bed time milk feed though so am going to have to change the times. Like tonight he's had his last feed already so maybe he won't sleep through. Or maybe he doesn't need the dream feed now just a last bedtime feed. Phew it's confusing. I wish he could just tell me. Knew I should have done baby sign language

RachieW · 26/07/2009 21:00

Star I think wierd poo nappies are a sign. Ds had a black one today not sure if it's teeth or something he ate? Too much iron? I can see his next tooth about to break through, just wish it would bloody hurry up. That will be six in total.

star6 · 26/07/2009 21:00

rachie I'm doing baby sign and he still can't tell us anything

star6 · 26/07/2009 21:02

wow 6 teeth!!! We're at 1 and 3/4 teeth. the 3/4 tooth is nearly there... why does it take so long?!

Rachie i'd advise not to feed to sleep, though... that really messed Q up.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/07/2009 21:03

Have a happy holiday pepper .

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/07/2009 21:04

Oh yes, you tend to get an acidic smell and runnier poo normally with teething, caused by all the extra saliva being swallowed.

RachieW · 26/07/2009 21:09

I agree about feeding to sleep Star, don't want to really go down that route. Tomorrow I'm going to try last bottle just before he gets in the cot and has a story.

Doubt J could be bothered to baby sign, he can't even clap or wave, if it doesn't involve moving/climbing/banging loudly he's not interested.

Pepper- how about a hip flask for those pub-less evenings?

pepperrabbit · 26/07/2009 21:13

Have I mentioned the really un-child friendly - dogs, and the unfenced pond and 2 fishponds between the barn and the loo house?

star6 · 26/07/2009 21:20

no loo in the barn? Is it a furnished barn or are there animals and hay in there?

Rachie - can't wait for these boys to meet. Q does the same stuff. bang, throw, make noise, move about... he totally sucks at sign. I think we're at the bottom of the class

He does on ocassion, though, stop what he's doing and sit, open mouthed staring dozily at the instructor for a few seconds (just to attempt to look really clever - ha!) and then goes back to throwing and banging, crawling and climbing to stand and cruise.

star6 · 26/07/2009 21:21

oh and rachie Q's wave is very sporadic and always shows us up when we try to get him to do it on cue. no clapping... he doesn't flatten his hands for it, but can pincer grasp

pepperrabbit · 26/07/2009 21:27

Sort of in between star. No animals or hay etc, it is watertight and has a old fashioned stove for heating, concrete floor and they have some beds over there and a tiny cot (poor DD will have those chubby legs stuck in no time!) so not that primitive. They're not allowed to put plumbing in in case they were tempted to make it into a "dwelling". I guess I'm just more of an en-suite holiday girl!

RachieW · 26/07/2009 21:29

They sound so similar! Particulary the clapping, J can't flatten his hands either but can pincer grasp a tiny spec of food. When I try to get him to clap he looks at me like I'm mad

pepperrabbit · 26/07/2009 21:30

DD just waves at me in a humouring mummy kind of way when I try to get her to clap - sometimes she'll wave with both hands - but there's never any contact!

Marthasmama · 26/07/2009 21:33

Why are they putting you in a barn Pepper? Are you that bad to have as a house guest? Try to Have a lovely time. I would personally sacrifice having a toilet if it meant I didn't have to sleep in the same house as my in-laws.

OP posts:
pepperrabbit · 26/07/2009 21:41

I think what gets me is the fact that they have a spare room with an en-suite.......
But it's not big enough for all of us so we all go over to the barn.
When DH and I were first married and childless, we spent one christmas in a caravan on the drive, DH drank soooo much that his snoring actually made the whole thing vibrate, I was 5 months PG with DS1 at the time. Never Again.

pepperrabbit · 26/07/2009 21:42

How's your tummy this evening?

Yum!

Marthasmama · 26/07/2009 21:58

pepper - It's a bit sore but that's because I'm an idiot and keep doing too much, it's also still wonky. I can't help doing too much as DH lets M cry whereas I want to cuddle her is she's upset. I think sleeping a caravan would actually finish me off. I'm not being a snob by the way, I just hate confined spaces.

Myjob - Good girl. The Gap sale is always the best place to get jeans. I used to love it when I was a Gap size 0 as there were always loads left.

CantSleepWontSleep · 26/07/2009 22:16

Pepper - what was the excuse for having to sleep in the caravan rather than the spare room? Was your bump that big that you wouldn't all fit even then?

I think I'd suggest to mil that the boys sleep in the spare room, and just you, dh and J go in the barn. At least then there's only 1 child to disturb you in the night.

Honeymoonmummy · 26/07/2009 22:38

Star - I am kind of hoping, yes! Altho if I am PG I will be kind of gutted if I have to tell him/ her they were an accident! Apologies if anyone else has been in this situation but I feel the child would feel strange knowing this. Of course, I could lie...

I know it's the wrong time cos of the PND and everything but TBH I'll be a bit gutted if my period comes along now. God, I must be insane to wish for 2 children within 17 months of each other!! (altho I did originally plan for 18 month gap if you recall!)

Rachie, if I were in a 4 week cycle (as prior to PG) I would be due this Sunday. However, I've only had 2 periods since having Poppy and there was a 6-7 week gap between them, so it's gonna be hard to tell. I assume PG tests won't work until my period is actually due?

Oh Myjob, you wanted brownie recipe. i'll go downstairs now to get it...

Honeymoonmummy · 26/07/2009 22:44

(Makes about 12 brownies)

4oz butter/ marg
3oz dark choc
2 large eggs
8oz granulated sugar
1 teasp vanilla essence
2oz SR flour
2oz broken pecan nuts (can use walnuts)

Preheat oven 350F/ 180c/ gas mark 4. Lightly grease and flour a 12 inch/ 30cm cake tin.

Melt butter and choc using double saucepan over med heat. Stir constantly to prevent burning. Remove from heat when both ingredients melted.

Beat eggs in large mixing bowl, add sugar and vanilla and beat until thick.

Stir butter and chocolate into the egg and sugar mixture.

Sift flour into this mixture and add nuts. Stir well and pour into cake tin.

Bake for 20-25 mins or until just set, then cut into squares. Should be moist and sticky mmm!

Marthasmama · 26/07/2009 22:50

Hmm - neither of my babies were planned. We knew we wanted them though so I'd never consider them accidents. The timing of M was terrible, but that doesn't make her an accident as far as I'm concerned. I think it's an accident if you didn't want any more when you fell pregnant. You do want another baby, unplanned doesn't = accident IMO.

Honeymoonmummy · 26/07/2009 23:03

Excellent logic MM

Right, I'm getting my possibly pregnant ass off to bed. Night!

star6 · 27/07/2009 07:51

HMM Q was unplanned... at the time definitely an "accident". I cried for the first two months off and on and was NOT ready. We had planned to wait at least a year so I could afford to stay home longer...etc. But we are so over the moon to have him now!!

ALSO - my mom had my sister and was told it was impossible for her to have any more children. SEVEN YEARS LATER, they were shocked to find out she was pg with me. I was definitely not planned and an "accident". I'm not traumatized by it at all. It doesn't bother me in the least that my parents didn't plan to have me... because they've always loved me and been great. In a secure family, no child will be bothered by knowing that information. It happens all the time.
