Hi everyone- dh asleep and mum is out so posting. Rolf that is progress re car. Ah well done re telling nursery - your logic sounds completely sensible.
Neenz thought of you as after much thinking we did our first night of letting edie cry a bit rather than go to sleep on me (one of us would go in every five mnutez to talk to her pat her and settle her) - it took an hour but she did go. Main reason being the crying and not wanting to sleep has turned into more shouting and pulling awAy rather than the crying you get when she is poorly. Also she is getting to age where could get harder to get rid of so after reassurance tried it - glad it worked in end but I wAs nearly crying. Off out for posh dinner so expecting her to be up when we get back as grandma is soft.
Hi everyone else- bdq well done on exams. Re swine flu it's a tough one but agree with neenz that doing what you can to be careful is good.

poppy34 · 25/07/2009 14:26

And re the oldtimers return WTF is that about? Are we back in school welcoming self styled cool people? Although I do admit to a certain hero worship of xenia whilst I may not share her views entirely she always seems supremely dignified when people have a go. Will keep my pet hates to myself but I know sponge shares one of them [ wink].

poppy34 · 25/07/2009 14:27

Rolf am sorry but your pregnant story made me giggle

pleasechange · 25/07/2009 20:14

rolf - sorry but the pie shop sweet shop pg story also made me giggle. looks like things are looking good on the car front though!

ali - no, not french, but am partial to a lot of wine & cheese!

spongebrainmaternitypants · 25/07/2009 21:02

Rolf, various reasons for the zafira - have driven a vauxhall astra for the last ten years and it is such a reliable car. My parents have one that is 12 years old and still going strong. Very easy to drive too. Also, I like the flexibility of the zafira, with the back seats being stowed away in the boot rather than having to be removed every time. I agree with the back seats up the boot space is non existent, but this won't be a problem for us most of the time. It's quite a small car for a people carrier too which appeals to me cos we live in poshville where every 2nd person drives a bloody 4x4 so driving around town/parking is a nightmare!

poppy, good luck with the CC - it really does work and makes night times so much less stressful. A is now a complete star at going to bed whereas bedtimes were one of my least favourite parts of the day .

Lol at the oldtimers return - and can't think who you are talking about in terms of pet hates !

A friend of mine came to see me today - she lives in Scotland and was on a quick tour of England catching up with friends. Anyway, she gave me this beautiful knitted jacket for Bill which her mum had made for him cos she loves knitting. I have never met her mum, and was just so bowled over that she would have thought of me and done something so kind. Totally restores your faith in human nature .

DebInAustria · 26/07/2009 07:35

Morning all, how are you today? Sun is shining here, guests arrived late last night, the boys now have 6 English children to play with this week they are waiting for them to wake up!!

Ethan is grizzling so short messages

Ali - enjoy France, if you have spare time with doting Grandparents then you could write us a review on MN or Trip advisor? Cheeky I know, but I might as well ask.

Sponge, Ktpie, Puree -how are you all feeling today?

All those ttc Good Luck, hope it happens for you soon.

Rolf - gutted for you at the comment in the pie shop but great news on the car, bigger cars are easy to drive after a while, we have a 9 seater minibus type and I just have problems reversing into a space !

Sybil - lemon drizzle cake I use a similar recipe to this but I peel the lemon and put the peelings in a mixer/chopper with the sugar, blitz them together and the lemon combines really well with the sugar, then add to the rest of the mixture

ethan on knee now so will have to go, bye

ktpie · 26/07/2009 09:26

Morning Debs and everyone else.

I'm feeling fine so far today, thanks for asking. Have survived my weekend on my own without DH. Just spoken to him and he should be setting off back fairly soon, but from Plymouth so will take a while. We need to be ready to set off to Yorkshire when he gets here. I'm rubbish at packing and am a little embarassed to admit that normally DH is the organised one who gets most things ready.

Don't know much about cars I'm afraid, I drive a van! It's a fairly small van (Peugeot Partner) but we had back seats fitted so you can fit 5 adults in if you want and there is still loads of space in the back. Plus the seats fold right up so you have all the van space back if you need it. Probably not something normal people would consider. DH dreams about getting a bigger van, he has a bit of a thing about vans and for a while we only had a car and he spent the whole time pining for his old van! Weirdo.

Rolf - will cross my fingers for you that the car materialises.

Sponge - that's lovely that your friends mum knitted a jacket.

J hasn't been settling down to sleep too well with DH away, think he prefers his putting to bed technique!

Anyone watch the F1 quaifier, poor Massa, that was very unlucky.
Thought it was funny at the end where they didn't know their times and had to go round comparing times with each other.

Big news here, J has a tooth visible! His first one, very exciting, a relief that he will at least have one tooth.

poppy34 · 26/07/2009 10:56

Sponge thanks for cc tip (and all others) worst night yet as woke up when we got back from our meal and acted up for two hours as wanted attention. Back to cc drill as I don't want bedtime to be a battle(and when did our baby become a toddler ;) )

pureeandpearls · 26/07/2009 20:25

Back from weekend with PILs. Appear to have early signs of SPD. Fuck

Sorry- hello all. Off to catch up with all your news whilst laughing my ass off at Top Gear.

OP posts:
bitofadramaqueen · 26/07/2009 22:34

Puree that sucks re spd. Hope its not too painful.

bitofadramaqueen · 27/07/2009 15:56
DebInAustria · 27/07/2009 16:18

sooo quiet here, just back from swimming - hot here , Ethan asleep, boys and dh still swimming, house to myself -

Poppy - did you have a better night?

Puree - what a bugger about the SPD

Hi BDQ - what are you up to today?

PiggyPenguin · 27/07/2009 16:20

Quick post to mark my place as dh in dubai and fighting to keep the kids in check on my own.

Debs bizarrely I am using thst exact recipe! Is in oven but seems to be taking longer than should to cook, which is a tad worrying...

P&P - that's crappy about the spd. Would early detection/physio make it better?

Have to post and run, cake pinging and general screaming going on, love to all, will catch up later!

bitofadramaqueen · 27/07/2009 17:54

Monday is my day off, so went into town with mum and baby friend. Lunch, swings, library, bit of a walk etc. Very wriggly S on my lap so must dash!

poppy34 · 27/07/2009 18:34

It is quiet.. Yes thanks deb last night was fine but think we need to carry on with cc as she has been acting up (nothing naughty but she wants to be up when she is clearly done in And cries when she is cross as opposed to upset from anything else). Wish me luck as don't expect it to be easy . Luckily nanny is doing same thing in day time ( patting and talking to her but not getting her out when she is cross).
Hi to everyone else - back from France so washing etc to do.

PenguinProject · 27/07/2009 20:27

C'mon ladies, it's only fun lurking when you actually chat!

Not much to report here, had a bit of a rubbish week last week hence the lurking, brightened up by a visit to the lovely Amber and Luke. Amber's flat is as nice as the photos btw.

Puree - so hope that the twinges don't turn out to be SPD.

Essie - Did you go to Drusillas? Used to go to Alfriston every summer holidays, lovely place.

Poppy - Crying when cross is a new thing here too. [hmmm] I thought we had another year until the terrible twos as well.

Sorry Rolf, but the sweet shop and pie shop comments made me laugh too. A RL friend with a 6m baby who is v slim was asked by dr at hosp when she was due, she was furious, but it made me feel better that it happens to size 8/10's too. Bizarrely her sister was asked the same, her sister's baby is one month old....!

KTPie - Dh would prefer a van too. He is dying for our v old Golf to break down so we can get a new car. He's been waiting 3 years. It may be ancient but it is the most reliable car ever, I don't think it will ever die.

DH out and Ryder asleep, lovely quiet house.

PenguinProject · 27/07/2009 20:34

Forgot to say, I am having EDMR tomorrow to go through Ryder's birth again and see if there is any underlying trauma. Although it wasn't exactly textbook (4 days of contractions following my waters breaking, then induction, then ventouse, then emergency CS), I'm not sure it was actually 'traumatic', I don't have nightmares or bad memories or anything. The stay in St Georges afterwards was much more distressing!

abdnhiker · 27/07/2009 20:41

poppy Fraser has just turned into a drama king, rolling around on the floor and screaming an obviously fake cry. He gets puzzled when we don't drop everything to respond. I think the terrible twos are a myth - we had the terrible ones with DS1...

PP your birth sounds a bit traumatic to me. I saw a homeopath after DS1 to prepare for Fraser's birth and I think it helped. the only problem is that I'm still taking the medicine/sugar pills she proscribed for anxiety and I'm too terrified to give them up...

My ongoing saga with work continues - i went in to quit today but my boss has found me a potential nanny and asked if I'd give that a go. I'm incredibly flattered that he values me that much to do all this networking for me, but I'm so exhausted from the stress of making a decision that I just want to cry tonight. I was so hoping it would all be over with. But on the other hand, I do love my job...

abdnhiker · 27/07/2009 20:42

(you must all be very sick of me prattling on about this though!).

poppy34 · 27/07/2009 20:51

Pp I hope your trip helps - fwiw I don't think nightmares and big episodes for want of a better word mean that experience hasn't marked you. I thought I would be done with therapy after e was born but have found still need it more than ever at times.

ah thanks for advice - dh said same re big kids but does help to know it's a phase. Really lovely of your boss but hardly helping what is a touugh decisin for you.

poppy34 · 27/07/2009 20:52

And agree pp that sounds pretty damn traumatic to
me! And ah you aren't prattling

PenguinProject · 27/07/2009 20:54

Wow Abdn, your boss has found you a nanny! That is amazing, though not sure if it's amazing in a good way, they want you to stay that much or in a bad, too much pressure kind of way. Sorry the stress is causing you so much upset. Could you try and forget about it for tonight and give yourself a break?

PND is so much higher in women with emergency cs's and I did think that I should talk through my birth story with someone before getting pregnant again (no plans here just yet), so tomorrow can't do any harm - I hope!

spongebrainmaternitypants · 27/07/2009 21:23

Hi everyone, it is quiet on here isn't it? I have had PILs here for a couple of days so haven't been able to get on for any length of time. Deep joy !

P&P, I don't know whether you remember but my SPD came back at week 7 in this pg , and by week 14 ish I was on crutches, which is not something I used in pg one. However, I had acupuncture and it really really helped - it's only in the last three or four weeks that it's come back again, I've been having acupuncture again but it's not been so successful . This morning I woke up feeling like I'd been kicked in the groin all night - agony

AH, what a sweet boss you have, but I agree with poppy that it doesn't help your tough decision .

Sorry to hear all those with tantruming babies .

PP, I think the EDMR is worth exploring if you feel you have unresolved stuff from the birth. I didn't have nightmares, etc, but still found it very hard to deal with how different A's birth was from what I had hoped. We had a birth debrief and it really helped.

neenztwinz · 27/07/2009 22:13

I agree Zafiras are still quite small despite being 7 seats, big boot when the back seats are down but with 7 seats in not much boot space. Fine with 2/3 kids, prob not with 4. Ford Galaxy/S Max a bit bigger, we got our pram in the back of PIL's S Max last summer plus four adults and two baby seats so that is pretty impressive. We might go for that next time but I have a thing about Fords (plus Citroens/Renaults/Fiats, anything French/Italian) and don't think I would ever buy one. I like Japanese cars, ultra reliable . Altho saying that mine and DH's have had various things done recently and it's cost about £1,500

It's been quiet on here, not been on since Fri and expected loads of posts.

I went out partying in Manchester with two friends on Saturday night, managed to arrange a freebie at the champagne bar in Selfridges through work and then blagged into Tiger Tiger free as well. It was a good night, fel tired/rough yesterday though adn still tired today!

Puree sorry about the SPD. My sis is pregnant (14wks) and still feeling sick so we were moaning today about how crap pregnancy is!

Poppy, good luck with the CC, you are doing the right thing! You will all be happier once you have it cracked, it won't take long and it doesn't have to be cruel. Just keep going in to reassure and as long as she actually gets herself off to sleep in the end you are making progress .

neenztwinz · 27/07/2009 22:23

Ooh Abdn, I'd be tempted to try the nanny. Grr, after you've struggled so long to make your mind up! Is the cost the same as the nursery? What are you going to do?
