Not really exotic... and not nearly as fun as playing with Penny and reading MN!

Speaking of which, I have been on here ALL evening (DH out tonight) reading old threads and various other things and now my eyes hurt!

Can anyone explain, in a nutshell, the Moldie thing to me? I'm still not up to speed on it. Not sure why I care though...

Off to bed.

Boobz · 04/09/2009 23:07

OK, nearly off to bed. But I have just had an idea of how to make my million: a pregnancy test that you can re-use again and again! It's so annoying having to buy endless pee-on-sticks when you are TTC, which costs loads. I'd buy something for £50 which I could then use indefinitely, instead of paying £10 a pop for one every week for ages until you get your BFP.

Or has it already been done?

Think I've had too much wine. Really am off to bed now.

Missmodular · 04/09/2009 23:19

I'm a freelance writer/editor which is great as it means I'm able to work from home, but not so great in that I've missed out on any decent maternity pay, so am permanently skint .

M has been getting onto all fours for a while now and is rolling all over the place - today I stupidly left her on my bed and went next door to sort something out with DD1 and she rolled off . She was fine, only because we have loads of clothes lying on the floor around the bed I guess there are some advantages to being slovenly .

Wheely we had stair gates in our last place - three of them as it was a flat with two flights of stairs. But I think we could have done without them tbh - DD1 was never the type to launch herself up or down stairs (or indeed anywhere) unaccompanied. They're sitting in our cupboard at the moment and I'm going to wait and see how adventurous M is before getting the drill out.

Lizzie that's so cute about your DD missing her sis. I hope my two get on well like that when M is older.

meep · 05/09/2009 06:14

ugh, Rosie is still not right. Awake at 4am, had a bottle, settled back down then did a mini vom in her cot. She's full of snot as well.

Have moved her back to smaller bottle teats, but she is still sruggling to burp and is having major re-gurge issues.

Is it possible for them to develop reflux at this late stage? It totally seems like a case of acid tummy because if i keep her upright for ages after a feed it is not so bad.

wheely we have stir gates - like miss we're in a flat with 2 sets of stairs. Dd1 is pretty good now but it gives me peace of mind! The one time I left it open by mistake she was discovered at the top looking down on her wheelybug! Thank goodness she didn't launch herself off - eek!

lizzie love the story about your dds - am also hoping mine will be like that.

boobz there is the same sort of thing for ovulation sticks - either buy individual ones or an expensive one off - I always thought it wasn't worth the expensive one as I might get pregnant sooner rather than later - with dd1 that was a false economy! The other thing is that the companies make more money from us buying loads of sticks at hugely inflated prices than they would if we all just bought a one off!

Miss can't believe your wee one is getting onto all fours! Rosie may have rolled once - but seems to be a total one off!

Morning all. Welcome Mini. Lau hope you're having a good time on hols.

Mae is a little grumpy this morning, no idea why as she managed to have a really good nights sleep last night. Went to bed at 9ish and slept in until 7am. The night before was a nightmare of waking every couple of hours and having lots of feeding. I would have been a bit cross except the nursery hadn't managed to feed her a bottle all day so she was probably been starving. I am hoping she caves in on her bottle resistance at nursery soon.

I am back to work next week, everybody seems to have much more exciting jobs than me. I work as a planner.

Meep sorry to hear that Rosie is not well still. I hope it isn't anything serious.

No signs of crawling here although she has been doing the hold her head up and then put her bottom up so she looks a bit like she is doing the 'worm'. But she is managing to push herself around and roll over loads.

And she can sit for very short periods until she realises that she is not being held or until she wants to grab for something which leads to toppling in that direction.

My dh says that Mae is going to be talking before she is 1, can't hear it myself but she does make loads of little noises.

Lizzie you LOs sound so cute. I hope if Mae has brothers and sisters they are close like that.

jollyjoanne · 05/09/2009 08:57

Boobz no ideas about the moldies I have noticed that there are a number of MN'ers who seem to have been around for a long time and know each other very well, and can take over threads to have their own little chats. I just tend to avoid those threads.

minicorrect · 05/09/2009 09:23

Morning all!

Thanks for all the lovely welcomes.

I'm a PA to the president and COO of a landscape architects (the team I get on best with happen to be the planners Joanne!). It's not particularly glamourous, but I love the people I work with and we work on some interesting projects (including the Olympic Park).

Eti kind of breakdances into a crawling position - arm underneath until she wiggles her bum and legs in the air enough to free it! It has me in hysterics! No crawling as such yet, but she manages to get about a bit.

My biggest worry at the moment is one of our stupid cats (we have 3!!). She has suddenly decided to start hanging herself over the edge of the balcony - I swear she's attention seeking . The minute my back's turned she's out there trying to catch the pigeons. Luckily it's getting colder now so we can keep the door closed.

We started properly feeding Eti solids this week (was a bit half-hearted before then). So she has an oz of milk with baby rice/porridge at breakfast and then half a jar of puree mid-afternoon. And the miracle is that (not only is her poo DISGUSTING now) she is almost sleeping through the night at last - wakes for a feed when we go to bed around 11ish and then a couple of times in the night for her dummy and then a feed at 6.30. It's amazing!

Boobz - have been having the same dilemma about when to get pregnant again - difficult though cos I don't really want to stay in my job for too much longer really (will have to commute when we move), but starting another job means I'll probably not qualify for such a good maternity leave allowance. So difficult.

Grinning - so sorry you had such a bad time at the Dr. I swear they miss bedtime manners off the training these days. Can you see someone else to get a second opinion/better explanation. I'm sure you'll find there are some options out there for you.

mdavza - don't feel guilty about enjoying being back - I'm pretty sure I will when it comes to it. Much as I love her, I do miss adult conversation and using my brain!

minicorrect · 05/09/2009 09:26

Er bedside manners not bedtime! Doh!!

kanga5 · 05/09/2009 09:54

good morning

hi to minicorrect too, and welcome to our little group.

boobz i am an architect, but i have not worked since 2004.

meep hope rosie improves today. don't know much about reflux, as only dc5 seems to have it. she does huge burps though. gaviscon has been helping her pile on the weight at last. Does Rosie have a temperature, or other symptoms?

what is a moldie?

busy day coming up, must go for now...
x

laumiere · 05/09/2009 10:39

boobz before going away on mat leave I was a relationship manager for Westminster City Council's Community Protection dept (counter-terrorism/anti-social behaviour and public safety for West End = fun!) but when i go back will hopefully be a Project Manager on more money and working across all services.

Also part time magazine contributor and freelance proofreader....

meep · 05/09/2009 17:25

welcome minicorrect!

have sick toddler now - it's all fun & games in the meep house!

OP posts:
mdavza · 05/09/2009 21:42

Aaauwmeep that sucks! Have no idea about reflux, maybe you could post somewhere else? It sounds like it, though, but good luck.

Welcome, welcome mini! Eti sounds cute and lively, so small!!!! Ben is now a whopping 17 pounds...

boobz. I'm nosy too, although my memory is up s*creek. I'm a part-time music teacher at a secondary school and I teach flute, piano and sax from home. So btw, other musicians, how do your lo's react to the instruments? B likes the piano and flute (if played in the middle register) but starts crying when I play sax. Shame, I think it's just too loud, or can it be my playing?!

Had a bad day, think ds must be teething, we've been planning a trip today to Perth for shopping and deli-crawling with my bro and family, and first B woke up crying from his morning nap after just 40 mins (v unusual) and then he was just complaining and crying and not even wanting to nap in his stroller. We tried to have a good time but just decided after lunch to go home. Of course he passed out in the car, after a good cry...felt so pissed off, had another idea for the day in my head, aaah well.
But he's def 'off'. I can hear him being awake in his cot over the monitor, hold thumbs that he'll stay silent...

lau hows the hols? V jealous of the nice weather.

Missmodular · 05/09/2009 22:03

Mdavza my DD1 cried when I played her the saxophone when she was very little, and haven't tried since! I think it was the volume rather than my technique Sorry your day didn't go as planned - you just can't predict how the little ones will react to situations when you're out and about (or indeed ever)

Meep sounds like a horrid bug is going round your house! You hang in there lady

Jolly DD1 wouldn't take a bottle when she went to nursery, but did eventually after a few weeks of persistence. Hope that helps.

Well, I'm here typing feeling decidedly inebriated after one and a half glasses of wine. What a lightweight I have become

laumiere · 06/09/2009 09:09

Hols are going great thanks, DS1 is relishing all the extra attention from his grandparents and I'm actually getting to sleep til 8 or 9 as expressing the night before and my mum is giving Gabe a bottle of EBM in the morning, WHICH HE IS ACTUALLY DRINKING!!!!! (for any newcomers, G's refusal to drink from bottles is legendary).

Weather is about 35 degrees today but overcast so going to take the boys to the beach (less chance of sunburn).

meep · 06/09/2009 13:40

hooray for Gabe! Very at 35 degrees! We have the central heating on here!

kanga no temp or other symptoms (apart from the day of vomit) but Rosie is getting slowly better - still waking at odd times and crying until a burp come up. Not drinking as much as normal - but enough for me not to be worried. We're back to waking her for a feed at 11pm as she's not thaving enough throughout the day to sleep till sensible o'clock in teh morning (have had a few 4am starts - ugh!)

Have ditched the gripe water - even I think it tastes foul!

Dd1 is VERY clingy - had a meltdown because she doesn't want me to hold Rosie and wants me all to herself. 'tis difficult as I know she is feeling poorly - but at the same time I can't give in too much or it will just set a bad precedent for when she is well again. I did spend from 3am sleeping in her room though - just couldn't face being summoned every half hour !

mdavsa sorry you had such a rubbish day out - Rosie's naps were all over the place, then she came down with teh sickness - am hoping it is not a vomit bug doing the rounds in Scotland

It's really interesting to hear what everyone's job is/was - I am so nosey! Will need to tell my dh about your job boobz - he made a bit of money playing online poker - I got a lot of lovely b'day presents as a result!

Boobz · 07/09/2009 12:55

Thanks for all your replies... makes it easier for me to picture everyone now.

Am taking Penny to the hospital for her heart scan (I think I mentioned a while back that the doc heard a heart murmur at her 8 week check, so this is the follow up) - fingers crossed it's nothing!

More important than anything else though, PEN SLEPT THROUGH LAST NIGHT, 7-7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am in state of bewilderment. Long may it continue.

corgikelly · 07/09/2009 13:23

Hey all - just wanted to say hi before heading to the US for a 3-day business trip (boobz, I'm director of global communications for the world's third-largest corporate travel company - I always throw in the "third-largest" bit to console myself when no one has EVER heard of my company! ). It will be the first time I've been away from Rhys and...

...I CAN'T WAIT!

I posted last week about our sleep issues -- and then last Tuesday things went from bad to worse when Rhys came home AFTER HIS SECOND DAY in nursery with a horrendous cold. Poor little guy sounded like a cross between an adenoidal hippopotamus and a seagull with emphysema. Anyway, neither of us has gotten more than 2 hrs' sleep a night since then, and since he was feverish he couldn't go to nursery. My mum, bless her, did a trouper's job of looking after him while I tried to work, but it was a valuable lesson that the whole "work-from-home-with-in-house-childcare" thing only works if you've got a big enough place to get out of sight and sound of the kid! And then, of course, both mum and I have come down with the lurgy, too.

DP came home Saturday morning after a week away, and it was pretty much, "hello, nice to see you, here's your son, please go away for a good long time."

So I am VERY excited at the prospect of three nights' sleep, even if one of 'em is on a redeye flight back to Brussels!

meep, glad Rosie's feeling better.

laumiere, glad the hols are going swimmingly, and hurrah to Gabe for the bottle!

mdavza, how are Ben's teeth going?

jolly, hope your return to work this week goes smoothly.

laumiere · 07/09/2009 13:40

Hey all, currently say I love my parents evn more than usual! DS1 is still in night nappies and has been drinking lots out here in the heat. So my poor mum walks in the boys' room this morning to be confronted with DS1's Poo Of The Day on the bed, floor, walls... where his nappy had become waterlogged, fallen off and he'd tracked the resulting mess everywhere....

My lovely mum and dad cleaned up the whole lot and left me to sleep

Now on tenterhooks waiting to hear back about job interview, and trying to express enough milk for Gabriel while DH and I are away for 2 nights (yay). The hotel isn't too far so they can always run G up for an emergency boob if needed....

Wheelybug · 07/09/2009 16:17

Hi All.

Glad holiday going well Lau - well done your parents !!

Corgi - enjoy the trip/sleep !!

meep - hope all is getting better with yuo all.

Boobz - hope the scan goes ok. Was it you asking about Mouldies ? In a nutshell - there were loads of old/established posters on here who, some may say, were quite cliquey. Anyway, for some reason (can't remember why) one of them set up a private discussion site where you had to be invited and accepted so all these posters were posting there. People got wind of it and were quite upset that it was private etc and most of the Mouldies 'left'. However, quite a few of them pop up quite frequently on threads they are interested in so suspect they name change/lurk.

Well DD1 started school today - sob sob - actually was quite emotional about it all yesterday but ok today - she was v. excited and seems to have had a good time. Looks so grown up though in uniform !!

To take my mind of it yesterday I went out for a run and ended up running my first 5K since I started back so was very pleased with myself. Can even walk today (will see what happens tomorrow) !!

Oh and I did count my chickens too soon - Lara is back to waking in the night again. Sigh. Ah well, it was good whilst it lasted. She's waking later generally so it might settle down fingers crossed !!

jollyjoanne · 07/09/2009 16:37

Well first day in work went ok. Loads of emails to read but no actual work yet thank goodness. But I am meeting with one of the managers tomorrow to discus my job so will tell you more tomorrow.

Lau your parents sound wonderful. Although as mine are babysitting 2 days a week they are pretty special too!

grinningbee · 07/09/2009 18:11

Good luck for the trip Corgi - at least you'll be able to sleep!

Welcome to Mini Wheely - I'm sure when my turn comes I'll be a sobbing wreck, so well done

Boobz I worked in banking for 18 years, then worked on our market stall and now finally I am a candle maker.

I am a little of folks who get to have a babysitter. Am I the only one who feels pawed by their lo by the end of the day? If dh strokes my arm I tend to swat him away . I'm sure it's just a phase! A is being very very clingy, and cries if anyone else holds her. I think the top teeth are on the way as there is mucho mucho dribbling and lip chewing and general unsettledness again, and we went through that before.

Dh is on another day out with the blokes from the pub, touring the finer spit and sawdust pubs of Nottingham. He won't be home again till very late and I have to get him, and then feed him. Ifound out that on the last one a couple of weeks ago, he ate a wasp for a dare. Idiot.

Still, I've made a new rule. Whatever he spends on these jolly days out, I get to extract the same amount from his wallet for my little savings fund Tis only fair seeing as I'm always the non-drinking designated driver and look after A all the time!

lizziemun · 07/09/2009 19:46

Grinning.

You are so not alone, by 6pm i'm soooooooooo glad that Robbie is having his last bottle before bed and he in bed by 6.15pm, then Lexie in bed by 6.30pm and finally Lizzie in bed by 6.45pm and piece and quite comes over the house. No pawing and No why questions until 6.30am tomorrow.

grinningbee · 07/09/2009 21:23

Lizzie Amy is still awake and has just bitten me sooo hard on the boob I had to check she hadn't gone through.

Dh has just exted me to say he may not be able to work tomorrow...

If I wasn't on a diet, I'd be knee deep in chocolate about now!

grinningbee · 07/09/2009 21:23

er, texted, obviously!

emma2617 · 08/09/2009 09:14

Hi Ladies! Sorry for the disappearing act...I went to visit my mum and dad for a week.

It turns out I'm not pregnant but we have decided to start trying again now as we were both really disappointed!! I am so excited now, just hope I catch as quuickly as I did with Luca!

Sorry, I haven't had chance to catch up as Luca is really not good at the moment, think it's all teething, but he is super grumpy and has constant diarrhoea...loverly

hope you all had a good week and babies all slept through for 12 hours every night (yeah right...we can dream!!)
